[Help] New to Linux gaming – how do I use FSR 3 or 4 on Nobara for offline games?
Hi, I’m new to Linux gaming and recently started using Nobara. I’m confused about all this FSR stuff — like FSR 2, FSR 3, frame generation, and even FSR 4 (is that real yet?).
I mainly want to improve FPS in single-player games like:
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- GTA V
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Battlefield 1
I’m running these through Proton-GE or sometimes through Wine.
How do I enable FSR 3 or frame generation in these games? Do I need mods, reshade, or special Proton builds? And is there any way to try FSR 4 yet?
Also, what’s the best method to force upscaling or framegen in games that don’t support it natively?
Any help or guides would be appreciated. Just want better performance without switching back to Windows.

Mouse not respecting capture rules with games on Fedora Wayland?
Hey there!
I used to use Debian 12 with KDE X11 in summer 2024 and never really had issues with games (other than those that outright blocked Linux), but I went back to windows in winter 2024 (for other reasons) and I've honestly been missing Linux since.
I've been slowly moving back as of recently, but I've struggled with some games when playing with mouse and keyboard, as my mouse will sometimes escape the game (even though i'm fullscreen), and I'll start clicking outside the window or typing outside the window, but the game won't lose focus.
I've mostly had this issue in Dead By Daylight, but I've noticed it in other games too. It's kinda making it really hard to move most of my daily stuff to Linux as I game a lot after work, and trying to test games will probably be affected by this too.
Another thing to note, I've tried gamescope for Dead By Daylight, but when the EAC window closes, the game doesn't open and Steam says the game isn't open.
Thanks!

How does emulation work on Linux?
Been on Linux for years but recently been emulating older games again but I have a windows laptop I do all emulation on since idk how to do it on Linux.
But I've been wanting to emulate better harder to run games and want it on my main machine.
I don't really know how to go about it at all and if it's any different then windows.
What I do for windows is just get a VPN get the emulator and then the games and it's simple.
But idk if I need a VPN and if the emulators and games will run on Linux.
What VPN do you use? And what do you do?

Arch+omarchy setup issue with Steam EAC
Hi, I am writing this post because I ran out of idea. Recently I setup my arch via https://omarchy.org/ ,
Unfortunately I am not able to start Elden Ring Nightreign anylonger (previously possible with clean arch install). When starting the game, an error pops up just after Vulkan shaders are loaded: "Failed to initialize dependencies". Since the game uses EAC (Easy Anti Cheat), I came across this post [PSA] Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) "Failed to initialize dependencies" fix for Wayland
Since my SDL_VIDEODRIVER is also set to wayland
env = SDL_VIDEODRIVER,waylandI tried to add x11, windows and even unsetting the env. Unfortunately the issue still is there.
Any ideas on how I could further troubleshoot this issue?
Things like reinstalling steam, trying different proton versions did not help either.

Troubleshooting GOG Games on Heroic
I am using Heroic games launcher to install and run some GOG games. Most games work fine, but I'm having trouble with two: Heroes of Might and Magic 2, and Sid Meier's Pirates Live the Life. This is odd because these titles previously worked through Heroic on Xubuntu (currently on Mint), and because they work just fine if I install them via their offline installers and run them using Wine, instead of using Heroic (which is using Wine, lol).
I'd prefer to troubleshoot this because 1) I'm really curious as to what's going on and 2) it'd be nice to have all my games launching from Heroic (or Steam for my Steam games).
Additional info: I have Steam installed. Heroic recognizes Wine 10.0, GE-Wine Latest, Proton 9, Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental. Aside from flipping through this dropdown menu, I have not adjusted any settings. I installed GE-Wine via Heroic, Wine via terminal, and all the Protons via Steam.
Heroic version 2.17.0 Wine 10.0 Mint 22.1
How do I begin troubleshooting this? How do I see what errors Heroic produces?

Decisions
Hey guys,
I hate windows and want to change to Linux, but there are a lot of questions I have.
How is gaming over there? EAC games still not working? I have a lot of games I’m currently playing with EAC. I don’t want to workaround this, to risky of getting banned in the games I like.
Did we have fsr4 in Linux ? Or is it still not in the drivers?
What is the best distro for gaming? I heard a lot good things about cachy and nobara.

I am currently making the jump from Windows to Bazzite (desktop, nvidia gpu, gnome desktop environment).

version issue? I tried the following:
ujust update
I dont think this updated wine dependencies though
winetricks --self-update
this gave a permission error, and apparently the first user you make does not have sudo or su permissions.
I also came across this forum post which mentioned reinstalling wine, but I am a bit confused on the commands used. apt is not a recognized command, so I figured maybe they use rpm like fedora, but dnf update also does not work.
Anyone who can help me?
Update:
Solved it, in the wine settings in lutin, I changed the wine version from the default to GE-Proton and that did the trick

Lutris doesn't download Cemu at all
So, I wanted the download Cemu from Lutris hoping that I can launch wii u games from Lutris directly but no matter how much I try, on the runners tab I cannot download Cemu at all. It will always say "Runner failed to install". I can download other emulators like pcsx2, ppsspp, dolphin etc. and add ROMs and play it directly from lutris. I also downloaded the cemu app-image from the official site but lutris doesn't seem to recognize it. The Cemu from software manager, lutris does show the runner but when loading the ROMs it will always say ROM not found. Is there anything I can do to be able to just open and play emualtor games directly from Lutris, it is such a convenient and easy way to play. Sorry, if this question sounds stupid.

Hunt: Showdown with HDR on Linux
Hey, I'm trying to get HDR working properly in Hunt: Showdown on Linux, but I'm running into a really annoying issue that I can't quite pin down. I'm currently using CachyOS with 5070ti nvidia gpu.
I’m using Gamescope with HDR enabled, launching the game like this:
ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamescope -f -r 240 -W 2560 -H 1440 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output --force-grab-cursor -- env ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 DISABLE_HDR_WSI=1 %command%
I'm using kde plasma i have wayland. HDR does get activated in the game and averything goes fine, but after like 2/3 hours or sometimes even less I start getting some heavy frame drops, like 1–2 second stutters. There’s no specific trigger sometimes it happens during combat, sometimes while just walking around. If I restart the game, it’s fine again for a while, then it starts happening again.
I also tried launching the game with just DXVK_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 %command% (no gamescope), and while HDR does seem to kick in, the colors look way too oversaturated and high-contrast, like the tone mapping is messed up.
At this point I’m considering just playing Hunt on Windows because the experience there is obviously way smoother with HDR but I’d love to keep it on Linux if possible.
Has anyone experienced something like this? Any ideas on how to stabilize it or debug what exactly is happening when the freeze kicks in?
Thanks!

Minecraft runs at a higher resolution than my screen's native resolution
I use Fedora Workstation 42 and have a 1920x1080 monitor with %125 fractional scaling but Minecraft runs at 3072x1728 which lowers the fps.
This probably has to do with the xwayland-native-scaling experimental feature
