Wine fix for Anti-cheat blocking mouse being held down.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 8:48pm

I had been playing Mech Arena for a long time then with a recent update the Anti-cheat system started blocking the signal that tells the game I'm holding down my mouse buttons. This meant that a lot of the weapons in the game were suddenly unusable. After a few days of research I figured out how to fix it.

Open regedit for the game's environment using winetricks or protontricks then find

' HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse '

There are two properties we need to find there: MouseThreshold1 and MouseThreshold2

Edit those values to double them. I'm not sure why the anti-cheat systems are triggered by these values being too low but here we are.

If you are unfamiliar with these functions the jist of it is that if the mouse movement speed exceeds the value in MouseThreshold1 in pixels per second, the cursor speed is doubled. This lets you click and drag things without needing to lift the mouse and drag it repeatedly just to get the pointer across the screen.

Likewise, if the mouse movement speed exceeds the value in MouseThreshold2, cursor speed is quadrupled.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible to install MS Store to Linux (just for Halo 5 forge)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 8:45pm

I am 99% sure this isn't possible. But I better ask just to be 100% sure. Unless anyone knows a way to make this possible, I'll have to install a VM to play the game after many years and celebrate its 10th anniversary!

Resident evil 4 (2005), game/video runs incredibly slow

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 8:44pm

I downloaded the game from steam. I first noticed issues when the video was lagging behind the audio. After the opening cinematic ended, the game was excruciatingly slow and it was like it’s in slow motion. I’m on Linux mint, is there any way I can fix this?

Why do you think Proton 10 is still in Beta?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 7:42pm

It has been nearly a year since Wine 10 has been release and Proton normallly would get a new version doing spring time. But not this time. We are closing in on Chrismas and it is still in beta?

Is this the new Half Life 3?

My fans are too loud in games, even lightweight ones

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 7:07pm

My fans are getting too loud in games, any game on steam, i don't know why and i haven't gotten any good solutions.

Some questions from other posts i did about this issue:

I'm using a laptop with a ryzen 9 7940HS and an nvidia 4070 mobile.

I do use cooler control, but can't apply it for some reason (i have no channels but it's not the issue im trying to fix)

I don't believe it is a shader caching error, it happens every second and doesn't stop anytime.

I cannot open my laptop and i firmly believe it's not hardware as windows had no issues anywhere.

(Also extra note, on ubuntu gnome nothing happened, on kubuntu it did this, and i currently run nobara linux)

Steam(flatpak) second drive in Ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 6:11pm

As the title suggest, I am not able to add and use a second drive. I have the Ubuntu drive with ~200 GB and an ---empty--- SSD with 2 TB ready to get some games.

I tried a lot of things like:

- mounting the partition into a folder and trying to select that in Steam - not working

- changing the RW from terminal and restart - not working

- adding the folder as Storage option from that drive (SteamLibrary) is working, it is seen as external drive, but when I try to install a game I get "Disk write failure"

- changing the mounting point from /mnt to /home - someone mentioned that /mnt is temporary and has special set of read/write permission

- asked ChatGPT for solutions, at some moment I broke the system. Not an option

Why I am using flatpak version and why I DO NOT want apt or other option: The main game I want to make it work is Anno1800 and I managed to make it work on the Ubuntu drive, which is only 200 GB. With apt I cannot make it work. It starts but then freezes for 20 seconds then unfreeze for 1 or 2 seconds, and the cycle continues. Been into that rabbit hole, tried everything, not working. Please do not suggest this again. It is pain.

Beside Anno I have some other games I want to play, so 200 GB is not enough.

System is a dual boot with windows which eventually I will phase out. The dual boot drive is 1 TB.

Linux XP: 4 weeks

And the question:

How to do it? Do I need to sprinkle some magic over it?

Black bars on some games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 5:50pm

Hi all, when playing some games, black bars appearing on top and bottom of my screen (2560x1600). I tried to launch the game with gamescope using -W 2560 -H 1600 and -w 2560 -h 1600 (and applying both of them at the same time) but it didnt work, game used to display correctly before, so it is happening randomly i guess. Anyone else experiencing this and found a solution?
System info:
- intel igpu & nvidia dgpu (hybrid laptop)
- niri window manager, (tried --backend wayland option with gamescope but didnt work)
- archlinux 6.12, nvidia driver version: 580.95.05, gamescope: 3.16.17

Most games running proton blackscreen after switching workspace/monitor

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 5:25pm

I'm a dwm user and Ive heard that it is a bit more specific when it comes to workspaces.

But that's basically all I know. Also for some games just switching the proton version fixes the issue.

But for genshin it doesn't seem to work that way. The in game cursor is kept if that means anything.

HELP: Emulated game save files work properly on windows but not on bazzite, Switch Animal crossing new horizons (ACNH)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 4:58pm

Okay, so I've been playing animal crossing new horizons just fine on bazzite, then I wanted to put other save files to play, and now I get a message as if the virtual switch no longer wants to accept these new files (or the original files) as healthy and tells me they're damaged and I have to start over.

The crazy thing is that these files work just fine on the same emulator on windows...

I have tried different emulators as well but no luck, I want to be able to play this game on bazzite because I have it on a handheld.

The specs: system - bazzite 43 ; using emudeck with ryujinx (1.3.3)/Eden(0.0.3) ; switch firmware: 19.0.1 also tried (20.3.0 and 20.5.0) ; animal crossing update: 2.0.8 ; Device: Lenovo Legion Go 1

This is the message I get on linux (wich menas save file is corrupted but it's a lie) (I CANNOT play any of the files, nor the original file or the new file).

This is the message I get in windows wich means that the system detected the file, is healthy and It will link that save file to my profile, then you are allowed to launch the game, and game launches and is playable (I can play both the original file and the new file).

The thing is that I get the erros once the game is launched... It's weird

So I'm going crazy over this... On linux is just not working properly and I don't know how to fix it...

Someone that understands linux better please help!! I Don't want windows in my handheld :(((((

Can't get game stream to work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 4:52pm

Trying to stream from my PC running Cachy OS to other devices. Primarily I want to stream to my Android handheld but I'm having the same issue when trying to stream to other PCs running Linux or Windows as well. Steam loads on the client device and I can navigate through the store and library but if I open the side menu or launch a game the screen on the client device goes black. I've still got audio and controls working through the client device I just can't get video. I've included a screenshot of my remote play settings on my host PC but I don't know what other info is relevant so feel free to ask. I tried googling the issue but I'm not seeing anything that seems like it's exactly the same problem as I'm having or if so I just didn't understand what they were saying to do to fix it.

Any way to get vulkan or opengl 4.6 working on amd radeon drivers?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 4:28pm

I have an r7 260x that i need for outputting 15khz signals to a crt. I believe (although im not 100% sure) that i need to be on radeon drivers and not amdgpu to output 15khz signals. The issue is that on the radeon drivers vulkan doesn't work and opengl is at 4.5 and im not sure if it can be updated.
im on debian 13

I want to switch to Linux, help me pick a distribution and desktop environment

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 Oct 2025 - 4:03pm

Specs :
GPU : AMD RX 6700 XT 16G
CPU : Ryzen 5 7600X
MB : MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wifi
SSD : Samsung EVO 990 2Tb

I've had Fedora Workstation and Windows 11 in dual boot for years. Tried running games in Fedora using Lutris (World of Warcraft, Path of Exile). Ran mostly fine (low quality text-to-speech in Weak Auras was annoying though). A bit lost in the gaming ecosystem of Linux (Lutris, gamescope, proton, the different launchers...)
I also do some occasional dev work on the same machine (Java, Python).

I want to setup a clean install, not sure which distro to pick : CachyOS, Nobara, Fedora...
I've thought about Bazzite but the immutability turned me off

Please help me decide, any advice is welcome
