I'm going crazy
Every 5 seconds, i get a lag spike that pauses my mouse activity, my keyboard activity and i cant figure out whats causing it!
Idk if I got it properly here - https://youtu.be/aLzbJIAN-Sg
Definitely noticeable here - https://youtu.be/UlmtFtu017o
I dont think its related to hyprland as it was occurring when i launched into Steam Big Picture Mode through the login manager (with Gamescope as its compositor)
running Ryzen 7 9800x3d and 5070Ti on the Linux 6.17.3-zen2-1-zen kernel.

Discord becomes active window when i press the "back" mouse button
I tried both Discord and Vesktop, both of them sometimes during a game when i press the mouse side button that is binded to "back" (the one that when you are in a browser goes back 1 page) it focuses the discord app and brings me out of the game. This is easily fixed by restarting discord but it keeps happening when i restart the computer.
Anyone else has this issue? Im on KDE latest version (bazzite KDE)

Gamescope is so bad
I keep having bad experiences everytime i try out gamescope, in my latest case im running shadps4 Native bloodborne and it works perfectly but if i use gamescope with the only option enabled to force 3840x2160 and nothing else it all becomes very finicky, the game wont close until i kill Lutris from system monitor, if i just do alt f4 it freezes the application, also lsfg-vk works with gamescope but in a very bad state it doesnt feel smooth at all.
And not only shadps4, but also helldivers, hunt showdown and a few other games although they work with gamescope sometimes they wont boot at all with no error until i disable it.
Im on Bazzite KDE, AMD RX7900XT, Ryzen 5 7600, 32GB ram.
Am i the only one that is having such a bad experience with it?

Steam is hurting my brain. (ubuntu)
So I installed steam a while back, and I did it via a .deb file because the snap version wasn't compatible with the modding tools I needed. Now, steam isn't in my list of installed apps or the desktop thing, but when I run it through the terminal, it shows up and works like normal. I tried going to the package manager, and when I tried to uninstall it, it said "no packages to remove"
This is despite the package manager having an option to "open" steam, which worked. Apparently I also need to get 32 bit architecture. I installed it, but idk if it worked. How do I check?
Basically what I need help with is actually installing steam, and uninstalling this weird install of steam, and maybe somebody could explain how my woes came to be.

Need help with capturing my desktop feed for streaming on my MacBook
Hey, so I’m still pretty new to Linux as a whole, but I would love it if I could get some help solving this predicament;
My desktop is running Linux Mint, and I want to use a capture card to stream my feed to my MacBook. The capture card that I currently have is the Razer Ripsaw HD that I got from facebook marketplace a few years ago, however after hooking it up to my pc’s monitor and the back of the pc itself, the capture screen on the MacBook is still blank. OBS is reading the card, and so is my desktop in the display settings, but no video is being shown.
Is there a workaround for this? If not, what would be the suggested replacement capture card? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Considering Moving to Linux - Importing my Steam Library Over?
Hello Linux enthusiasts.
With Windows 10 support ending last week I'm starting to think it's time to jump off the Windows boat for my home computing needs. I have some experience with Linux on my laptops, but I've never formally installed it on my desktop before (uses an AMD processor and Geforce RTX 3060 GPU). I'm leaning towards Linux Mint for this application.
It's seems feasible now given the progress Steam has made and all of my PC games are exclusively on Steam.
My main question, which is why I am reaching out to all of you. I have my computer set up so that the OS is installed on an NVMe SSD and I have a larger SATA SSD that I use for games and bigger files. In preparation for what I'm doing I've also backed up key files (documents, pictures, etc.) onto that SSD as well. Would it be possible for me to somehow get Linux installed/running in my NVMe SSD and then somehow import my Steam library over without having to fully wipe my SATA SSD? I would like to avoid reinstalling everything if that is possible.
Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone with a 5000-series NVIDIA GPU able to get 144hz VRR + HDR signal out via HDMI 2.1?
I am on the verge of dual booting alongside windows again on my main gaming desktop because I have the itch to get away from windows, but the difficulty in achieving this is what stopped me last time.
My desktop is connected directly to my OLED TV which features 144hz/VRR.
I’m using a 5080.
If anyone has it working, would love to know what distro you are on and what other steps you had to take.

Goodnight
Ask me a question, I have a very weak PC. It is an Intel Core 2 duo, 8GB of RAM and 250GB SSD. I currently use Linux mint Cinnamon, is it worth switching to FydeOs?

Ashes of Creation reps Lackluster response to bans
Quick recap, many linux users (not all linux users) were banned last weekend from the game Ashes of Creation and had our accounts deleted. Everyone banned had seemingly one thing in common, Linux usage.
So after a very long weekend, an Ashes of Creation rep has finally responded.
Hey everyone,
We wanted to take a moment to clarify a few points raised in this thread. No account actions in Ashes of Creation are automated - all actions are reviewed and verified by our team.
The recent round of account actions was related to systems running the Alpha without a supported version of Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) active. This issue wasn’t tied to any specific operating system.
Ashes of Creation currently supports Windows 10 and 11. Regardless of your setup or operating system, it’s required that a supported version of EAC is running whenever the game is in use.
Thank you for helping us keep the Alpha fair and secure for everyone participating!
— Intrepid Studios
So, apparently "This issue wasn’t tied to any specific operating system" but every user banned was on Linux.
And also "it’s required that a supported version of EAC is running whenever the game is in use". What kind of MONUMENTALLY dumb fuck system allows someone to connect to their servers AND PLAY THE GAME without the correct anti-cheat.
You wanna know the process of getting this game to work on Linux?
- Download installer
- add installer to lutris or similar launcher
- check the box for EAC, Webview2 and DX12 to install
- Launcher will launch
- Download game
- Press play
Account banned and deleted, no recourse, no nothing. Ashes of SCAMNATION strikes again.

[Benchmarks] 20 Modern AAA Games on Ubuntu 24.04 + RX 580 | Summary Chart + MangoHud Metrics
I ran 20 AAA Games on Linux (Ubuntu 24.04.3) using an RX 580 to see how a mid-range system performs in 2025 under Linux.
🧠 System specs:
• CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
• GPU: XFX RX 580 8GB (Mesa 25.2.4)
• RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz (Corsair Vengeance)
• Distro: Ubuntu 24.04.3
• Kernel: 6.14.0-33
• Wine/Proton: Wine-GE 8-26, Wine 10.16 Staging, Proton Experimental
🎮 Tested titles:
Spider-Man Remastered, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Halo Infinite, Ghost of Tsushima, Hogwarts Legacy, Days Gone, Far Cry 6, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War: Ragnarök, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Starfield, RoboCop: Rogue City, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Red Dead Redemption 2, Silent Hill F, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, Resident Evil 4 Remake.
📊 Summary chart (average and 1% Low FPS per game):
• MangoHud overlay active on all games (FPS, frametimes, temps, GPU/CPU usage).
• Mostly Wine 8-26 ge, with some tests using Wine 10.16 Staging and Proton Experimental.
• ▶️ **Full benchmark video:** [https://youtu.be/40Sgxc1LGVQ]
(Clean gameplay only — no commentary, just raw performance footage & overlays)
⚙️ **Notes:**
No custom environmental variables were required for any of the games — all ran “as-is” with default Proton/Wine settings.
If you’ve tested similar titles on comparable hardware (RX 580 / GTX 1060 / 1660), feel free to share your results. I’d love to compare performance across different setups.
🐧 Cheers and happy Linux gaming!

'Hell Let Loose' heavy lag at the start of gaming
Anyone ran into something similar while gaming? The frametimes in mangohud are wild and the game is unplayable but it lasts for about a minute before it calms down.
https://reddit.com/link/1obwwap/video/m2af1jk5fcwf1/player
From that point on the frametime is heckin smooth. It rarely spikes up after that and only for what feels like a single frame at a time.
If I close the game and start it up, it does that again. It doesn't make the game unenjoyable, but I need to know what is happening, especially since Steam builds shader cache what feels almost like every day before I start the game up, and I'm guessing something like that is happening here too.
Here's system info from Info Center
Operating System: EndeavourOS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.10.0
Kernel Version: 6.17.3-arch2-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (31,2 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: X570S UD
Here's full system info from Steam in pastebin if someone wants it: https://pastebin.com/VN4ircFE
Proton version is GE-Proton10-20; I haven't tried 10-21 yet. I have tried experimental and hotfix. I don't know which one is the default one.
This is with mangohud gamemoderun %command%; at some point I tried without mangohud and the same thing was happening.
In LACT I have a small "undervolt" going, but nothing major (I don't even know if it's configured correctly), 120 offset on GPU clock with 1800 max, and 800 offset on VRAM. In BIOS I have a -25 on Curve Optimizer. I doubt however those have anything to do with that.
Other games I've played so far don't do something like this, but then again, they are different games (Helldivers 2, REPO, Rematch)
I'm assuming it's compiling shaders still because once it's done the game runs smoothly for hours. I only fully moved to Linux a week ago and I'm impressed how well something like 'Hell Let Loose' runs, but this thing that happens at the start of every game is a pebble in my boot.
On Windows, while something like this wasn't happening I do feel like it "hitched" more frequently otherwise.

[Bazzite]The crew motorfest not launching
So I installed bazzite 42 nvidia (6.16.4-116.bazzite.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)) and installed Ubisoft Connect with The Crew Motorfest on steam using Proton 9.0-4. When launching the crew I have Ubisoft launch window and nothing else after that and it doesn’t close. Any idea what I could do to solve that? I have a 3090 and a r6 5600x.

Diablo 2 Ressurected.
For the life of me it's the ONLY game (except for the bullshit anticheat crap of course) That I can't get running.
I use Bottle with proton 10. Everything runs like a charm. (All battlenet games, all Epic game games), for steam I just use steam.
For this ****** of c***p I get failed to initialise graphics devices, please ensure your pc meets minimum system requirements and your drivers are up to date.
I get this error from the D2 ressurected blz-log.txt file:

I picked up a cheap 5:4 Monitor on Amazon, It's fantastic!
I play a lot of old-school, non-widescreen games on my PC, which generally tend to look really bad on my main, 32 inch, 2560x1440 display. I have been wanting a second monitor for a while, just for productivity reason, and decided to find a non-widescreen display, to see if it could solve this issue.
and it has! Games look crisp, clean and clear on the small, 17 inch, 1280x1024 monitor. It's not functionally the best, but it fits my intended purpose flawlessly (also works great as the second screen when emulating 3DS)
outside of it's gaming functionality, it serves it's role as a secondary monitor, for OBS, Wiki's, Chat, whatever I need.
Incredibly pleased with the outcome, the Photo's just don;t give justice to how crisp and clean Dawn of War and KOTOR 1 and 2 look.

Hey guys, today I released a free walking simulator exclusively for Linux, if you're interested... Just click the link in the description.
It's a 37-second walking simulator, which I programmed myself from scratch using Rust and OpenGL. Enjoy!

Modded minecraft, downscaling resolution
Hiya, I've just upgraded to PopOS 24.04 with COSMIC and am slowly setting everything up. I've installed my own custom modpack with this installer https://github.com/cdbbnnyCode/modpack-installer it worked great and I have everything working including shaders except my poor laptop can't handle my high resolution screen so I have to downscale my games. Setting the fullscreen resolution to 1080p in sodium or in the minecraft launcher doesn't seem to work. If you have any ideas I appreciate any help
