Fedora 42 KDE Proton Stutter Issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 4:54pm

Been having a strange issue when trying to play any game using proton and even some native games. Tried multiple proton versions, around 30 minutes into playing a game it will begin to stutter badly when i move my mouse or try to move in game. Once i stop moving mouse the game returns to normal. Not sure what causes this but wanted to know if anybody else has had the same issues. Restarting the game stops the issue until the time period has passed and it starts again.

Stuttering issues in-game Ubuntu 22.04

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 4:31pm

I have an issue with my laptop, that involves frequent stuttering in multiple games. I tried reinstalling drivers, changing from OS (which I've had planned to do anyway), set affinities and updating BIOS. Nothing seemed to work. Tried turning v-sync off/on and locking framerates too.

Specs:

MSI Katana GF66:

CPU: Intel I5 11400f

GPU: RTX 3060 (Mobile)

16GB RAM

512GB SSD

PS5 controller stopped working on Halo MCC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 3:26pm

It was working just fine two days ago. Yesterday there was an update and after that, the game stopped recognizing my controller. It does however still let me move the cursor with the touchpad, but that's about it.

I'm on Kubuntu LTS and I'm using the flatpak version of Steam. I also checked to see if the controller still works in other games, and it does. However, I don't see anyone else reporting this issue so I assume it might be Linux only.

Gaming on Linux - 7 May 2025 - 2:29pm
Preservation is important for video games, but that often focuses on games that have been released. Here's a nice win for some developers though, as Captain Blood has managed to release on Steam after being cancelled in 2010.

Help with NVIDIA Prime Laptop (Gigabyte KF5) and weird issues on games and XFCE(X11)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 1:31pm

Hello, so I'm having some issues with my laptop, I'll try to explain everything:

The laptop has an i5 13500H paired with a 4060 8Gb (The "low" wattage one)

The problem is the following, I've tried different DEs, Distros and WM.

With XFCE and X11 the DE randomly crashes and I have to manually kill the process and restart it. This happens no matter what I do and it seems to be random, with KDE and Wayland this doesn't happen.

On games I have the following issues:

When using external monitors I get a 10%-20% performance loss, not because of the performance loss of having extra monitors, it has to be something else, because if the game is getting redered on said monitors it gets the performance loss, if the game is running on the laptop screen while attached to the external monitors the FPS go up.

I know NVIDIA has issues on Linux and NVIDIA Prime laptops have even more issues, but I'd like to know if someone has the same issues I'm having or if it's a known issue at all.

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm using Debian 13 and I'm using the latest nvidia drivers from their website(I've also tried the ones on the debian repos and I have the same issues)

Dual booting Linux with a shared steam directory?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 12:29pm

Heya, new to the OS and trying stuff out.

I have Endeavour installed currently along side Win 11.

Is there a way to get both OS's to share the same directory to avoid double updates etc.

Thanks for your input! :D

How's Linux gaming on the RTX 5000 series cards?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 11:58am

I initially wanted to go for a 9070 XT, but went for a 5070 Ti instead since it's actually cheaper where I live. For anyone using Linux with these cards, how's your experience? What distro are you using? Should I go for something bleeding edge like Arch, or something immutable like Bazzite? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Top 6600xt vs bottom 6700xt

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 May 2025 - 10:35am

Hello,

I have some consideration to make. I have quite tight budget for GPU upgrade (upgrading from 1070ti). In my price range (around 1000PLN, ~260USD) I've found 2 interesting options on used market:

6600XT Sapphire Nitro+ (so top variant) 6700XT MSI Mech (considered one of the worst models)

Which one will be better? Not only in performance (this is obvious), but also in daily work (temps, noise, longevity).

I have MFF ~25L case, so working temps are crucial. I don't worry about VRAM, I'm playing 1080@60 & it's enough for me. I also don't mind using FSR - see no difference :D.

Thank You in advance!

(currently I'm getting on Endeavour OS + cachy OS Kernel, want to switch to AMD for better compatibility & some more performance)
