My experience with Linux VR, using Quest 2 in late 2025
I recently bought a Quest 2, and with all the Linux VR talk recently (thanks Valve please make steamvr good thanks) I decided to try using it for PCVR on linux.
My setupDistro: Kubuntu 25.10 (Plasma 6.4.5, Wayland)
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB (driver 580.95.05)
Rest of the PC: Ryzen 5 5600, 16GB DDR4-3200
VR connection settings: Everything left default, OpenVR compatibility set to XRizer, resolution set to 80% to give my GPU a fighting chance
InstallationHaving heard rumors about SteamVR being outpaced by WiVRn, I didn't bother trying SteamVR,
I just installed WiVRn via flatpak, and it worked instantly. The setup wizard automatically installed WiVRn on my ADB connected Quest, and it was all ready to go in about a minute! I used USB to connect the headset to PC because I don't have a capable wireless network, though ethernet worked great too from my limited testing. To add desktop viewing and control like on SteamVR, I used WlxOverlay-S, which I set to auto-launch in WiVRn settings, and it works great (besides the complex controls).
GamingFirst title I tried was Aircar, and it ran totally fine; it picked up quest controller bindings automatically even though the game asked for an xinput controller, and was a nice experience. Next up I tried VRChat, which has EAC, and it worked wonderfully. Audio and bindings were all fine, and I was hitting the 90fps limit in most simple worlds running at around 80% resolution and medium settings (I am on a 1060 after all). Hand tracking worked perfectly without any extra setup, i just put down my controllers and immediately my hands were picked up in game. After two days of non-stop VRchat, I only had a crash once, with no major freezes. Beat saber also worked totally fine after switching to XRizer instead of open composite, otherwise my system would crash when exiting the game (but the game itself ran on open composite fine too).
( I also ran OBS Studio to record some VR gameplay, and clicking Record makes any game lag for about a minute, after which it's totally fine to where I even forgot I was recording and ended up with a 30 minute video, woops. Audio was picked up fine.)
What worked, and what didn'tWhat I was surprised to see work:
- At least in VRChat, all controller buttons worked, including capacitive touch!
- Hand tracking works flawlessly.
- Okay latency - WiVRn dashboard reported between 40 and 60 ms motion-to-photon latency, which felt fine, but probably not too great for beat saber and the like. However, just pulling up the WiVRn dashboard immediately spikes the reported latency so... it could be anything.
- No complex setup - just run the WiVRn app, connect headset, and go.
Problems and gripes:
- No SteamVR controller bindings menu - from what I could find, the only way to re-bind controls is to edit .json files in XRizer if you select XRizer as the compatibility tool. (Not sure)
- No motion smoothing! In more demanding games, this might be the final nail in the coffin for people thinking about using Linux for VR. Though, from my personal experience previously on windows, motion smoothing only turns a laggy unplayable experience to a nicer looking, but still input latency-ridden mess.
- Game compatibility is questionable? VRchat is a Unity game with EAC, so safe to say that just about any other Unity game should work just fine, but HL:Alyx and some other games can be a mixed bag - read more about it in the Linux VR Adventures wiki: https://lvra.gitlab.io/docs/games/
Running WiVRn on latest Kubuntu Plasma with Wayland, Nvidia GTX 1060, worked totally fine. Using a Quest 2 the controller bindings were picked up automatically and hand tracking worked great too. MTP latency was usable (40-60ms). I will personally continue using this setup rather than keeping MS Windows around.
Ask away in the comments if you have any questions, thanks!

Software searched
Hello guys,
i want to Dual-Boot with Windows 11 Pro and Linux (Fedora). For Linux i still need a good RGB software, on Windows right now i use SignalRGB.
I have tried OpenRGB once but for myself its built to complex and SignalRGB fits perfect for me. Its easy to use and has a way cleaner user interface.
Also i would need AMD Adrenaline (not sure if its supported on Linux) and stuff like XBOX Accessories (For my XBOX Elite Core 2).
Are there any other softwares?

4K, 60FPS, HDR and VRR on Linux
I have seen several posts about this but most seem to be old or say different and was wondering if someone has a definitive answe to this. I have a PC with HDMI 2.1 out and a TV with HDMI 2.1 in. I want to hook these up and run it in 4K, 60FPS, with HDR and VRR. Is that possible on linux? If not, is there some adapter or something I can buy that will make it work? I know that linux only really supports HDMI 2.0 but everywhere I look I see different answers on wether 2.0 can handle all that.

So, I really want to learn to code and basics of designing a game..
So, I really want to learn to code and basics of designing a game..
I'm 37, with a nursing degree and my only experience with computers is basic ,essentially how to install a game and play it. My question is,is it feasible with my age and lack of experience/knowledge? Are there any cheap or events free programs I can begin to work on the basics while I gather scholarships to apply to a college. Any thought on the matter are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Are there any XFCE distros where I can install steam gamescope and have SteamDeck like experience, with a separate desktop and gaming mode?
I was doing research and it looks like gamescope can be installed seperately, are there any XFCE distros where I can install gamescope and have it configured to be like SteamOS?

Pop!_OS or Garuda KDE For Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves
Hiya, I'm a beginner to intermediate at Linux. I am technical enough, I use Linux Mint on my work laptop, build my own PCs and can easily download Linux and Windows onto them, and I have tried using Ubuntu for gaming about 3 years ago. Every few years I put my game saves and files on a hard drive and do a complete wipe of my pc. I am days away from upgrading from a mostly Nvidia system to AMD (before rammageddon started yay) and am due to do this. But with the new surge of Microsoft violating my privacy and putting things I don't want or care for in their OS, I was wondering if it's worth switching to gaming friendly systems like Pop!_OS or Garuda KDE. A grand majority of my games are on steam (and EA a bit) and I have used Proton/Wine mostly successfully in the past, doing all the downloading and debugging on my own. The issue I had was that I was very much a Genshin Impact player, and still am. Know I have heard that, ah, illegitimate support is there for Linux these days for that game, so that's less of a concern as it was in the past. But I have also really gotten into Wuthering Waves, and as a newer game with the same core issues I'm a bit worried about having to do debugging every time I want to play it with the current support it may have. So I want feedback from others who play those games, or are just experienced with Linux running non steam systems, and what Linux system works best for them. I've heard that Pop!_OS and Garuda KDE are best, and that Pop is more beginner friendly while Garuda has better gaming performance, but in terms and my experience and needs I'm a bit torn.
TLDR; I'm not terrible with Linux and like it, but want to play my pretty Chinese games without it being a huge pain, and need others to either reassure or warn me (and recommend a Linux system)

¿It can still be run with some VKD3D games.?
I know there are many problems with the Pascal series and DirectX 12 games (VKD3D), but I'm wondering if it might work well now. I have the latest driver (581.80). For example, I plan to run Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Disk write error in bazzite
I recently installed bazzite on to a 2tb external ssd. I have only a couple of games installed with about 1.8tb free. I am now getting cloud errors and disk write errors when I try to start steam. Chown -r fixed it temporarily, but every time I boot the issue comes back. I did add the game library to my windows boot (which probably caused the issue). Is there any way to fix this without a total reinstall?
