Need help to figure out performance difference between distros
I recently switched to CachyOS from windows a while ago and the only game that i play is Devil May Cry 5. I realised that i have considerably worse performance in the game on Linux than I did on windows. I asked for help with fixing it on this server but didn't get any answers that helped.
Then I tried switching to a different distro (PikaOS) to see if the bad performance is a Linux issue or a Distro specific issue and the game ran much better on it. But i can't permanently switch to it cause i highly prefer using Cachy due to how user friendly is it.
So is there anything i could do to make Cachy run the game as smoothly as it does on PikaOS?

Unsure about distros
Hey there, I've always been a Windows user but have recently developed an aversion against bloated proprietary software in general. That's why I'm considering to change to Linux some time between now and the end of Windows 10 support. This pretty much rules out a dual boot setup.
I've read some stuff about distros and most recommendations I've seen, have not presented that much of a reasoning or have been contradicted quite harshly by others (which might also be due to some recommendations I've read being several years old). That's why I want to understand the pros and cons better.
I believe I could find my way around a terminal, but I don't want to be tinkering a lot, so something that works out of the box and remains stable would help me a lot.
Of course, being on this sub, I also want to game. I'm not a competitive gamer and having 10-12 years old hardware in my PC, I'm also not really playing the most demanding games. However, sadly, I have an NVidia Card in there, so considerable performance losses might mean that games that barely run now (Red Dead Redemption 2 right now) might not run afterwards... I was considering buying a newer AMD card though, which might help with that.
With all that being said, I also use my PC for programming (scientific programming for my doctor's thesis and some hobby stuff) and working from home, using a remote desktop app. So the distro should not keep me from changing anything, just hold my hand doing it.
Playing mostly older, non-competitive games and having old hardware, does Linux Mint make more sense than for hardcore gamers or is an up-to-date kernel important for me as well? Would Bazzite be a pain in the *** to use for anything else than gaming? What other ideas come to your minds when reading about my situation?

Cannot download Battle.net anywhere
I don't know what's going on, but Battle.net broke in Lutris yesterday. Found out Proton 10.6 fixes it, but I found this out after deleting Battle.net from Lutris. Now Lutris can't download the installer and the links on Blizzard's website don't work. They're just static buttons.
Where else can I get the Battle.net desktop app? TIA!

What kind of problem might it be?
I was able to use proton from steam in the game that downloaded in Lutris. But for some reason, tried to game today and the games won't launch with both proton hot fix and proton experimental. It happened after updating the proton hotfix.(I can use proton GE and still can play games). Is this because of using the same wine prefix(UMU prefix) for the game or some other reason?

Minecraft Legends (Windows MC Launcher) on Linux?
I had a free trial for Amazon Prime and in it Minecraft Legends was included. I thought it would be as simple as just installing the Windows version of the Minecraft Launcher and running it through Lutris, but that led to an error code about some "Universal Windows Platform application" or something. So I tried installing the Windows 7/8 version of the launcher which still uses a regular .exe, but that one doesn't support Minecraft Legends. But I found a post of someone saying that they successfully did it, they just didnt mention how exactly. So is there a way?

(r/WC3 x-post) Running WC3 under Linux after the last Battle.net update?
As many half-dozens of you running Linux may know, the latest Battle.net client update broke updater Agent.exe except under the very latest wine-10.6-staging-tkg-amd64 version, which is all fine and dandy for most other bnet games except it reintroduces the age-old problem of a black screen with game cursor and audio after the lion splash screen to WC3.
Has anyone managed to fix this? Since older wine/proton versions break the bnet client itself I can't resort to using older versions under which WC3 ran fine...

Monster Hunter Wilds "crashes" on start
I am an EndeavourOS user with an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and an RX 6600XT GPU. I recently obtained the game from an AMD offer when I bought this CPU recently. I have been unable to start the game.
What happens:
- The game opens a window at fullscreen size
- The window changes size to about 1/4 of the screen's size
- The steam overlay pops up
- The window seemingly vanishes, but is still visible on the task bar (It appears to become extreeemely small)
- Nothing happens, so I exit the game.
Attempts at fixing:
- Various protondb tweaks (arguments like gamemoderun, gamescope, WINEDLLOVERRIDES, VK3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_NV_low_latency2)
- Various proton versions in combination with the above fixes (Hotfix, Experimental, GE-Proton-2.1 and 2.7)
- Replacing the dstorage.dll and dstoragecore.dll with old versions and also directly from Microsoft's NuGet gallery (version 1.2.2).
Is anyone else having these issues or had them and was able to fix them?

SFF GPU options
Morning!
I am not new to linux at all but I am new to gaming on it. I currently have a workstation that is a few years old that will be transitioning to a very light gaming computer.
I need a low profile, single slot gpu. The two options that I have seen the most are the RX 6400 low profile and the RTX 3050 low profile. I know the history with nvidia and linux has not been great but I have been hearing that is changing.
OS: Debian 12
CPU: i7-10700
Games: I am most interested in racing games but I have a couple friends that want me to play Helldivers with them. Other than that I dont think I will be doing anything super resource heavy unless the GPU can help me render faster in FreeCAD.
Thank you!!

[Dev] Help me tailor my game for the Deck! What unique hardware features (gyro, back buttons, etc.) make the biggest difference to your experience?
Hi everyone,
We are working on an upcoming isometric narrative RPG and we're really focused on making sure it plays brilliantly on the Steam Deck right from the start.
The Deck isn't just a portable PC; its unique hardware features offer so many possibilities beyond standard controller support. To make sure we're focusing on what actually matters to players, I'd love to get your direct input. As the title asks, what are the Deck-specific hardware features that significantly improve your gaming experience? I'm thinking about things like gyro controls, back grip buttons or the trackpads. Examples of games that you feel implement these features particularly well (or poorly!) would also be incredibly helpful.
I really want to leverage the hardware properly and avoid just treating the Deck like a standard console. Linux gaming is the future, and I want to support it as much as possible. Any insights or preferences you can share will directly help shape how my game feels and plays on the device.
I'll be reading through and replying to all the comments! 💛🌴

Oblivion Remastered on Linux
I don't want to be vague but is anyone else having this issue?
Anyone who's played this game knows it runs just as well as a geriatric hamster with heart failure so I use DLSS frame generation to help make the game somewhat playable performance wise. For some reason on Linux whenever I try and enable frame generation the option is grayed out even when trying FSR, frame generation works fine on other games like Cyberpunk so I'm not sure what the issue is. Maybe the game is too new? I've tried updating my Nivida drivers, using the lastest version or proton experimental and GE and running this launch option

Looking for Star Wars Battlefront Saga (GOG) and Cross-Platform Multiplayer Solutions Working in Steam
I just picked up Star Wars Galactic Battleground Saga for free on GOG via Prime Gaming and I’m wondering if anyone’s gotten online multiplayer working in Steam.
I’m running Bazzite and aim to install directly in Steam via Junk Store/Proton.
I’ve got a friend who’s on Windows 11 and I’d love to play with him, but I’m not sure if something like Gameranger or Voobly works, if there’s another cross-platform solution, or if I could/should just use Tailscale, NordVPN Mesh or something similar.
Has anyone gotten this working in a similar-enough setup?

Is it the right time to switch to linux? (9070XT)
Hi guys, I recently built my first computer with a 9070XT in it, and ive been looking to switch to linux to avoid playing league of legends ever again :D. I also recently started working in IT and have slight linux experience from there, im not sure if that makes me a beginner or not. Which distro would you recommend for a person like me, or would it be better to just wait until support for the GPU has stabilized?

MangoJuice - A program to configure MangoHud
I came across this program on Flatpak, and I wanted to share it with you. I haven't tested it yet because I already have all my configurations set up manually, but if it works for someone, that would be great!

Does the NVIDIA DX12 performance loss still happen on Linux? Has it gotten better?
I remember I lost about 20% performance on games that run on DX12 (this was about 6 months ago? kinda.), and I don't have the beefiest setup so I like to have most fps that I can, so I just continued to use Windows, debloated as always.
