3060ti Vs 9060XT for dx12 - worth switching?
Hi all, I've been using a 3060ti since launch, which in windows has been fine - only pushed the vram once at 1440p (would be getting a 1080p monitor if I got a new gpu though, my one is gsync only). With the 9060XT launching today, I was wondering if it's worth switching to get better dx12 performance? I did see that Nvidia now actually knows about vkd3d being worse on Linux, so maybe it's better to wait and see; with the way things are though I'm concerned the card is going to be selling for more than it's worth in a week's time. Apart from that it only seems like a small upgrade (if you ignore the vram). Thanks!

Dualsense with GE or Proton 10-x and bluetooth bug combining touchpad and r1 input?
can't find a fix for it other than using steam input with forced xbox buttons, or using a usb cable but i don't have one long enough/am on steam deck so unplugging something every time is not preferred. And it was fine until GEproton 10-x, i would just use the old versions but now some games are not booting without it so i don't have a choice.
it also happens on some old proton versions(~7) but didn't happen with GEproton until now, but the resent patch notes seem to have Dualsense fixes listed so i am confused? i can't find anyone else having this issue.
Steam deck/SteamOS, ds controller is up to date, GEproton 10-1/2/3, connected through Bluetooth, steam input disabled with ds compatible game. Moves touchpad button input to R1 and inputs both when pressed, disables touchpad.
Games i tried are Zenless Zone Zero and Genshin Impact, so maybe a non-steam game or hoyo specific issue? i would try testing more games, as these are probably too similar, but warframe's broke for me a long time ago and i don't have anything else that i know of

The Sims 3 very low performance on Linux
Is there any solution? I've not found much about it online. I know about the performance mods ecc. Managed for it work adding libraries on winecfg but the performance remain very bad cespite my good gaming setup PC. Any other workaround? It lags very badly and often crashes even during character creation, but visibly worse in the real world.

Having trouble getting r2modman to work
For context: I am using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and using the snap package version of Steam (from the Ubuntu app center), and using the debian version of r2modman 3.2.0, since the appimage won't launch.
I am trying to mod a game on Steam that also uses a Proton (Experimental) compatibility layer to run it (Windows-only game), but I'm having difficulty getting the game to launch through r2modman.
I've tried locating the app executable for Steam Linux to select it, but it doesn't show up in file search. I'm not sure what executable it's looking for, but I don't know if the windows executable will work on Linux.
I'm very new to Linux, and especially modding a Windows game on Linux. I've looked all over the internet for answers, but had no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
I'll provide screenshots below: (I couldn't get a log output from r2modman, sorry about that.)

Help moving steam save file
(Originally posted on r/Deltarune but taken down due to not enough karma. Then posted on r/Steam but taken down due to asking for tech support. Sorry for any confusion)
Just to set the basics, I play deltarune on steam pc and I use linux Ubuntu as my operating system. I played through chapters 1 & 2 on the demo, then bought the game when it came out earlier today. When I launched it, I noticed that my demo save file was not detected.
Is there any way to take my save file from the demo and put it into the actual game? And if so, how?

Elden Ring Nightreign Multiplayer Connection Failure
When I run Nightreign, the game launches just fine, but the Easy Anticheat (EAC) splashscreen only shows for a split second (faster than a blink) - a much shorter time than when I compare to a working PC. On the working PC, the EAC popup sits there for a few seconds. On the main menu, I get what you see in the image: "A connection error occurred". Ignore the washed out look, that's just poor translation from HDR to the screenshot tool. When I click ok and click "Login", same error.
SuspectI suspect it is related to a graphical failure and not an actual network failure. Because the EAC splashscreen is so short, it makes me think EAC silently fails, which prevents me from connecting to online services.
Another thing to note is for a while (prior to installing ER) I was using VK_hdr_layer for HDR. Later, I uninstalled it once Mesa 25.1 dropped because it is no longer needed. When I uninstalled it, I removed these files:
/usr/local/share/vulkan/implicit_layer.d/VkLayer_hdr_wsi.x86_64.json /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/vkroots.pc /usr/local/include/vkroots.h /usr/local/lib/libVkLayer_hdr_wsi.soI confirmed with the author that this was the right move, but maybe one of those files shouldn't have been deleted. I really don't know what they are.
SetupAs mentioned, I have a Linux setup that successfully connects to online services, which gives me something to compare.
Working setupOS: Kubuntu 24.04.2 LTS x86_64 Kernel: 6.8.0-60-generic Uptime: 1 day, 13 hours, 47 mins Packages: 2526 (dpkg), 10 (snap) Shell: bash 5.2.21 Resolution: 2560x1440, 2560x1440 DE: Plasma 5.27.12 WM: KWin Theme: [Plasma], Breeze [GTK2/3] Icons: [Plasma], candy-icons [GTK2/3] Terminal: konsole CPU: 12th Gen Intel i3-12100F (8) @ 4.300GHz GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 6600/6600 XT/6600M Memory: 3424MiB / 15834MiB GPU Driver: amdgpu

On the non-working setup, I have also tried booting up with XFCE (X11) and the same results occur.
Troubleshooting- Firewall - I don't think this is it because the working PC is on the same network. I have also tried the non-working PC while connected to a VPN and the same thing happens.
- DNS - Unless there's a DNS cache on my local machine (I never intentionally set one up), then I don't think this is the issue either, mostly for the same reasons as the firewall reasons above.
- Window Manager - Probably not, because I can't get it to work with XFCE on X11 either, but it is strange that the EAC popup is faster than a blink. So maybe something graphical?
- Proton - Both setups are using Proton Hotfix. I have also tried Proton Experimental, and GE. No differences.
- Launch Commands - Both setups are using no launch commands
- Steam Native - Both setups are not using steam native. I have heard it can have issues with finding native libraries.
I ran the game with launch command PROTON_LOG=1 %command% just to see what comes out. You can find the log from this google drive link.

If you haven't tried openXcom you are missing out!
Just here as a newbie to give credit where credit is due
r/openXcom is an absolute delight, this project deserves some recognition IMO.. Running on Debian perfectly..
The song that plays on the main screen alone evokes crazy 90s vibes, and the mood/vibe is intact, one of the most important things of all
The gameplay is hard but FUN and the team there has done a wonderful job, it runs so well, and I've sunk at least 5-10 hours into it so far to the point it motivated me to make this post
Best of all - one of the few games that is absolutely laptop friendly from start to finish. Fully laptop friendly -- my original criteria that lead me back to this game. It's turn based, and modernized so that I've been playing with a ThinkPad Nipple cursor and trackpad and absolutely no need for a mouse
THE MUSIC!! This is the kind of project I hoped to find for Command & Conquer with no success, bravo, I will be donating soon

When to expect AMD 9000 series gpu drivers to be fully optimized.
Like the title says im wondering when we can expect 9000 series performance to be on par and beating Windows like RDNA3 does atm. Im currently rocking a 7900xt, which i really enjoy. But im also looking at the 9070xt for the slight performance lift and FSR4. Im watching benchmarks that come out and they seem to show that 9070xt isnt getting even what a 7900xt gets on Linux atm. Nor matching Windows 11. I use Cachy os so typically updated.

i am gonna switch to Linux. i have some doubt.
until yesterday i used an potato pc with an 4th gen i3 and no dGpu. Yesterday i bought a gaming laptop. before buying the laptop i always had a thought of dual booting Linux and windows, but after using the windows 11, i realized it's unusable. So i am gonna completely switch to Linux. I only play single player games and i hate games like fortnite, valo and apex. So gaming is not an issue but choosing an distro is.actually i like arch linux ricing and the cool stuff i can do but it seems like i takes some time to learn or even use. i am gonna dual boot arch and any other user friendly distro. do the gaming performance game change according to the distro we choose? most of them says that linux mint is user friendly and nobara is optimized for gaming. which one should i choose mint or nobara? is the performance diff high or negligible?

How do I undervolt my GPU?
On windows this is like a 15 minutes, basic process. I move to Linux and this is somehow like the most complex thing in the world. No common program to use, I have to install special plugins and drivers to make things work and usually it doesn’t. I tried GWE but it doesn’t seem to work on Bazzite. For once and for all, does anyone have a guide for me to figure this out? Even YouTube seems to be devoid of a proper tutorial.

Horrible screen tearing in FF7 Remake Intergrade
I get horrible screen tearing in FF7 Remake at any frame cap, 120, 60, 30 etc. I'm running a 9070 on Arch with Wayland and I've tried enabling and disabling, "Screen tearing: Allow in fullscreen windows", changing the in-game options from borderless fullscreen to windowed, different versions of Proton etc.
God forbid a developer adds vsync options to their game released in 2022, right? I'm getting perfect performance apart from this gross screen tearing...
Has anybody encountered this and managed to figure it out?
