What icons should I use
I want clean, non flat, background less icons that look polished. Closest I’ve come is a Win XP icon pack that had too many bells and whistles. I’m on plasma 6.

Is this normal
I’m sorry if this sound’s quite dumb but should Minecraft be running at 60 fps on a 4070 super or is it because I’ve done something I’m using prism launcher and an i7 12700k

Unable to add a drive to Steam on NVIDIA Bazzite with KDE.
$150 laptop that can run Minecraft Java w/mods?
Looking to get my son a very cheap laptop that is LinuxMint friendly and can run Minecraft Java with a reasonable set of mods (I know shaders, etc. might me too taxing).
Right now he's used to the performance of my old desktop i5-6600k w/ GTX970.
Any opinions on minimum specs I should look for / are possible in the sub-$150 price range? (Bonus pts for links to active deals).
Thanks!

Star Wars Outlaws working on Nvidia Linux - solution from TheWiseNoob
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/2092#issuecomment-2322226803
I just got it working with Lutris! Works really well. Make sure to set Contact Shadows to Low for raytracing. I'm using a 4090.
I don't know if this the best way to it, but I'll explain how I did it.
Get Lutris. I used Lutris from the official Arch repos.
Install Ubisoft Connect via Lutris' option on the sidebar, login, and install Outlaws.
Now you need to replace the two dlls(d3d12.dll and d3d12core.dll) for vkd3d-proton for both x86 and x64
Since this patch is merged into the master branch, pull master
Pull master with git clone --recursive https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton
Change to the directory you just pulled with cd vkd3d-proton
Build in your current directory with ./package-release.sh master ./ --no-package
There's a new folder in your current folder called vkd3d-proton-master. Copy both dlls from the x86 and x64 folders into the respective Lutris folders for your chosen vkd3d-proton folders. For example, mine were in /home/YOUR_HOME_DIRECTORY/.local/share/lutris/runtime/vkd3d/v2.12 with Lutris on Arch. I'm using the main Arch Lutris build, not a Flatpak if it exists.
Make sure to replace YOUR_HOME_DIRECTORY with your home directory's name.
Should be playable now!
I can confirm this works flawlessly.
The only issue is this Nvidia feature RTXDI and Path Tracing - keep this off and you should be fine.
Honestly enjoying the game now, happy playing everyone interested!

Bad distance textures - Recap from my post yesterday
Hey guys,
Yesterday I wrote a post here for which I got kind of rekt. It was all about bad textures in distances of games.
Background
I recently built a new computer and switched from a 1080Ti to a 4080-S.
Since then I have been relatively fussy about the graphics in games. To be honest, I was probably expecting a graphics explosion, as I just got a new GPU - and even one of the best on the market right now... I'm not so sure myself.
I played Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey and The Witcher 3 and I noticed that the textures in the distance look extremely watery and washed out (in my opinion). Simply not sharp. Screenshots: The Witcher 3, Assassins Creed Origins, Assassins Creed Odyssey
YES, I know, all the games are 6-9 years old. But I'll be honest, I was just surprised that the textures look like that. I never paid attention to it before and maybe it's just because of the new GPU now. I've tweaked the graphics a lot, but in the end it's just the games themselves that look like that as I play everything on max settings. And I always remembered that those games were THE games in terms of graphics and immersion when they came out (and I even played them myself and never noticed anything).
I honestly never intended to offend anyone. I just wanted to share my thoughts about that. I started playing games since I was 13 years old. So I now all the old graphics e.g. in Gothic and so on.
Like I said, I was probably most surprised at myself that I never used to pay attention to it - and since my new GPU I totally do.
I guess my own expectations changed dramatically.
(And honestly, the textures just look like shit too for nowadays standards)... :D

Steam is stuck on launching game...
COMPUTER:
OS: Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
Kernel: 6.8.0.41-generic
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500
GPU: Nivia GeForce GTX 1650 (TU117)
Memory: 16GB
Internal SSD: 250GB / File System: ext4
External HDD: 2TB / File System: ext4
--Steam is installed on the External HDD.
ISSUE(S) THAT I HAVE:
Steam is stuck on launching. This is subject to every game I have, they start but don't launch.
I am unable to verify the integrity of any of my games either. The process starts and then quickly freezes.
STEAM SETTINGS:
Running Steam in Compatibility Mode
Proton is installed and running 9.0.2
Each game properties have proton 9.0.2 selected as well
NVIDIA DRIVER INFO:
NVRM Version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 560.35.03
GCC Version: gcc version 13.2.0 (Ubuntu 13.2.0-23ubuntu4)
SYMPTOMS:
Steam doesn't usually start on the first try
WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
I have uninstalled and re-installed Steam
I confirmed I am running the following:
NVIDIA driver meta package from Nvidia-driver-560 (proprietary)
Uninstalled and re-installed the Nvidia Driver 560
Installed a different Nvidia Driver and saw no change
Ensured the 32-bit drivers were installed
Ensured Vulkans latest drivers were installed
I am running the latest updates
> (Ubuntu)
> (Flatpak)
> (Snap)
Any help would be appreciated.
