Help with elden ring save files!!

22 Apr 2026 - 5:41pm

So i decided to switch over to Linux for my PC gaming setup (still have a bootloader for windows just in case), and i have been playing a lot of Elden Ring recently. I was able to download the game and access my save from when i played on Windows. However, I just had an issue with a corrupt game file that verifying the game files could not fix, so i had to completely reinstall the game. Now after reinstalling, the game cant seem to access my save. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, please help.

Just bought The Division 2 and can not get it to work

22 Apr 2026 - 5:30pm

I just bought The Division 2 on Steam. According to ProtonDB it should be straightforward, but no matter which Proton I use, nothing happens and the play button is green again.

Could it be something with the Ubisoft launcher?

Proton: Cachy-SLR. Experimental. GE10-34

CachyOS. 5800X3D 7900XTX.

Built a Linux forum in Spanish — includes gaming, emulation and selfhosting sections

22 Apr 2026 - 5:23pm

Spanish-speaking Linux users mostly rely on Discord, where knowledge disappears fast. I built a forum to fix that: foro.rcv11x.net

It has dedicated sections for Linux gaming, emulation (Proton, Steam Deck, RetroArch, PCSX2...) and the usual distros, homelab, Docker stuff. Threads are Google-indexed so solutions stick around.

If you know any Spanish speakers in the community, feel free to point them over.

Massive stuttering when casting own spells since WoW Patch 12.0.5 (Pop!_OS, AMD RX 6950 XT)

22 Apr 2026 - 5:11pm

Hi everyone,

I’m running into a very specific and frustrating performance issue in World of Warcraft since the 12.0.5 content patch. Everything was working perfectly before the update, but now the game has severe stuttering issues under very specific conditions.

The Issue:

  • Self-Cast Lag: The game runs at a stable 100-120 FPS. When allies or enemies cast spells, there is no lag at all. However, the moment I press a button to cast my own spells, I get massive "standbilder" (split-second freezes/stutters), even though the FPS counter remains high. This happens even at training dummies with no other players around.
  • Windowed Mode Bug: Since the update, the game refuses to save the "Windowed Fullscreen" setting. It constantly resets to a small windowed mode on startup, and I have to manually fix it in the options every time I log in.

System Specs:

  • OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS (Fully updated)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT (Mesa)
  • Resolution: 3440x1440p (Ultrawide)
  • Runner: Steam / Proton Experimental
  • Launch options: RADV_PERFTEST=gpl gamemoderun %command% --disable-gpu

What I have tried so far:

  • Disabled ALL addons (tested with a completely clean UI).
  • Deleted the Shader Cache and the WoW Cache folder.
  • Deleted Config.wtf to reset all settings to default.
  • Switched between DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.
  • Capped Foreground FPS to 180.

It feels like the game "chokes" specifically on my own character's combat events or input. Has anyone else experienced this since 12.0.5? Could this be a conflict between Proton Experimental and the new patch's spell effects?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!

NVIDIA Performance

22 Apr 2026 - 4:36pm

Hi, I'm thinking about switching to CachyOS with an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU and I wanted to ask about gaming performance.

How is DX12 performance right now?

  • Is there still a noticeable FPS loss vs Windows?
  • Does it depend a lot on the game?
  • Any improvements with the latest NVIDIA drivers (2026)?

Asked our artist to sketch something based on the Linux logo.

22 Apr 2026 - 4:22pm

I work on a game which is set in a very light cyberpunk setting. It's not classic cyberpunk, cyber-fantasy would be a better name, but unfortunately that's not a thing.

Anyway, the game has many 'playful' references to IT and technological concepts. They aren't very serious. I repeat, the game is very light in its tone (it's a hard game, though).

So, I gave our concept artist the Linux logo as a reference and also included the original Tux reference from Wikipedia (the one with a fish), and this is the result.

I have one question. My original intention was to name this enemy Linus (and yes, this is an enemy, the game is non-violent, and to defeat enemies you upload data into them). Almost all enemies in the game have human names, so it would fit. But at the same time, I'm afraid it might come across as something disrespectful.

Like, the reference is too direct. It doesn't really help that I'm an outsider to Linux culture and my knowledge about Linus comes down to one TED Talk and some memes.

It's a nuanced topic. Like, naming a boss Gabe is fine, because gamers love Gabe and there are a ton of memes produced about him daily, so it wouldn't matter and it's been done many times already. Naming the boss Elon, on the other hand, is at least a bit dangerous, I think, because it is (or it was) political and polarizing (I'm not from the US, so don't read to much into this). So basically, I would appreciate some input regarding the name. I don't want to come off rude or trigger anyone.

I don't want to use Tux because that would be a direct reference, and we don't do that. Maybe someone can suggest a good alternative name? Adam could work because it sounds like 'admin' a bit (has the same letters). Adam the Penguin makes perfect sense to me. But I don't think Adam sound nerdy or "advanced' enough.

Will games with kernel-level anti-cheat ever be possible on Linux?

22 Apr 2026 - 3:20pm

Gaming on Linux at this moment is almost perfect, but one thing is missing. The biggest games like League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Valorant are unplayable. I know it's not Linux's fault, but I have a lot of friends who won't—or can't—switch to Linux because of this. Do you have any idea if it will ever be possible to add a kernel extension (by yourself) or something similar to have the option to play all games in the future?

Anyone got Dead Island 2 from Steam working on CachyOS/Arch?

22 Apr 2026 - 3:07pm

I can't get past the 'Connecting to Epic Online Services' screen, and I think it's due to something not getting installed. When I edit the ini file to stop it checking, it just checks anyway.

How to use a old dxvk ver with newest proton?

22 Apr 2026 - 1:52pm

So i have a hd 4600 which supports only vulkan 1.2 and that's why it can't run the newest dxvk versions. Is there anyway to force newest proton versions (like 11 beta) to run with dxvk 1.10.3?

Performance of Helldiver's 2 got significantly worse/unplayable in the last couple months

22 Apr 2026 - 1:46pm

Greetings, I took a break from Helldiver's 2 for some months and the performance was already then quite on the edge of being playable. For comparison:

Then I played in QHD Ultra quality with mostly low settings but for example texture quality on medium with average 60~50fps with some dips into 40fps.

Now even on FHD Balanced with all low settings I get BARELY 30fps

But for me, the most disappointing thing is, that on my second windows partition the game runs fantastic. QHD ultra quality with medium - high settings and very stable 60fps. Is it really the game or (hopefully) some mistake on my side?

Lastly, my PC specs: Radeon 6650 XT Ryzen 5 5500 CachyOS

Problem with Wine and Installers

22 Apr 2026 - 1:01pm

I have a problem with Wine. When I open an .exe file with Wine, such as a game installer like in this case, the window is rendered as if my screen resolution was much lower than it really is. This happens even when I use base Proton or Proton GE.
I don't really know what the problem is. Thanks in advance for the help.

Does switching to Linux on old gaming labtop is worth it?

22 Apr 2026 - 10:29am

Hi,

My gf has an old gaming laptop (GTX 1050, i5 8th, 16 GB RAM). It's running very slowly, and most games have problems running even on the lowest setting. Is there any point in switching to Linux, or is it just unsupported NVIDIA and a dead laptop?

Would the Framework 13 Pro be a good gaming laptop

22 Apr 2026 - 9:53am

Hey everyone,

I was just watching the new reales video on the Framework 13 pro, in the video they said it can handle Cyberpunk at high graphic levels.

Now I’ve never built a PC and don’t really know what specs mean. I am console gamer though I have been wanting to have some way ti access steam.

I like the idea of the steam machine but this laptop seems pretty cool too and it’s Linux straight out of the box, currently use mint.

Let me know what you think.

Searching for a game I downloaded from the Ubuntu Software Center in ~2010

22 Apr 2026 - 8:33am

Sorry, I don't have many details, I haven't thought about this game in forever, but have been obsessed with it lately. It was this game where you play as like gnomes or dwarves or something. Most of them had swords or axes, but I remember vividly that one had a shotgun. It was 3D and top-down-ish, the camera could also follow the player.

I remember two levels, one where you're in a town and the townsfolk attack you (I don't remember if they're inherently agro, or if I would do something to piss them off) and one level where you're battling against others on a ship (this is where I remember the shotgun guy from)

I don't think it had a story, or a real progression, I think it was just a collection of various levels you could pick from. I might also be misremembering, but I think it had networked multiplayer? Either my brother and I would play against each other on multiple computers, or I'm just totally misremembering and we would take turns on one computer.

I remember I managed to track it down in 2016, by then it had been removed from Ubuntu software and I couldn't get it to run on Ubuntu 16.04, but I didn't really try that hard anyway. I've been scrolling the internet archive and a list of ubuntu games from 2008 and couldn't find it, it must have existed in the software center for a pretty limited time, I'm fairly certain it was released after 2008, and I'm confident it was removed and became abandonware before about 2016

Edit: also I remember it had a really stupid name, even back in the day I could never remember what it was called. It wasn't a jumble of letters, but was something weird like Gularnicaliga, like they took the most random, fantasy-sounding syllables and stuck them together into a nonsense word.

Freesync confusion: what are the correct settings?

22 Apr 2026 - 6:41am

Sorry if this has been already asked here but I want to make sure I have the correct settings.

I have connected the monitor via a DP cable, in monitor settings I have enabled Freesync.

I am using CachyOS with KDE Wayland and I have enabled Adaptive Sync in Display Configuration.

When gaming, for example Cyberpunk 2077, I disabled in-game Vsync setting, and locked the frame-rate to below my monitor's max-refresh-rate. So I lock it to 90 FPS because my monitor is a 1440P 100Hz display.

I turned on the FPS counter on my monitor's settings and I can see the refresh-rate is now 90 FPS most of the time.

Am I doing everything correctly? Should I enable Vsync instead in-game?
