Fedora 40 and Nvidia RTX 3060
Hello fellow people,
let me start by saying I love and fcking hate Fedora KDE Plasma. After that is out of the way I really do need all of ur help.
I play games and browse the web and thats it, so I installed Fedora 40 and done everything in my power to install the right NVIDIA Drivers via RPM.
Playing Dark Souls was okayish but starting Stardew Valley was a lasershow for me.
It flickered like crazy and everything was just awful.
So after I tried Fedora I thought: Well, guess I try POP_OS and it works like a charm but I would love a distro that has KDE as a native flavor and also, imo, the Fedora Store is better but please correct me if I am wrong because I am a complete noob under Linux, for now!
TL:DR:
So here is my problem:
Would you recommend to just use POP_OS or go back to Fedora and if I should go back the please by the love of god can someone help me install the NVIDIA drivers correctly so that Stardew finally works?
Oh and also under POP_OS Nvidia Panel works perfectly while under Fedora it just wont work.

Need help with CachyOS :.)
recently I decided to join linux community and since I wanted to play some games on it so I installed cachyOS which is based on arch and it has good optimizations related to games and performance improvements. I also installed envycontrol to control which gpu is being used since I'm a optimus laptop owner, but I need help about somethings: 1. what things I should definitely do after installing linux? 2. how can I improve performance on linux? 3. any recommendations for a newbie like me 4. how to update or install drivers?
my specs: cpu i7 7500U GPU1 intel HD 620 (integrated) GPU2 nvidia GeForce 930mx (discrete) 16Gb ram
any help would be so great 👍🙏

Steam Games 90% Incompatible?
I installed Mint yesterday and got round to downloading Steam towards the end of setting up.
Considering Steam Deck is Linux based, and the various posts I read about Steam being on Linux as if it was a game changer, I was very surprised to see that only a small percentage of my Library was actually supported on Linux.
Sure, I can play Left4Dead, Cities skylines, a handful of indie titiles Portal and maybe most of my other Valve games, but I've completed them.
The games I actually wanted to install, most notably Tekken (2 titles), Street Fighter V, Mortal Kombat (last 2), Resident Evil, Star Wars (8 titles), LEGO (7 Games) South Park, Kingdom Come, Just Cause and Batman (4 titles) have the install icon greyed out and a Windows icon next to it.
I did install WINE to get Irfanview installed, but that is another issue as though it says installed, the program is not listed under WINE or anywhere else I have looked so far.
Is WINE able make the rest of my Steam library playable, or is it still the case that if you really want to game you dual boot Windows?

Looking for a new Mouse
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of good budget mice. I am looking for White, Wireless, and a wheel lock for the scroll wheel. I have been using my Logitech G502 for a couple of years now and I Since the Ghub does not work with Linux as for what I have seen I am looking for a replacement.

I get this error when I try to open Frostpunk with the heroic game launcher. I tried other versions of Wine and proton, but the result is the same. My graphics card is Nvidia mx250 and my operating system is EndevourOS. What should I do?
Distros for playing and streaming some games
I think I narrowed down my choices to Fedora, Debian or Mint. I wish to play games, stream and make some videos as well as use the PC for personal stuff such as browsing social media or watching Netflix.
The thing is, I am not really concerned with a "different" user experience from Windows. I can easily adapt to things looking and working differently so long as they DO work. So which of my options will offer me the most performance, reliability and security? Not having to do too much tinkering is a bonus.

Adding a windows ssd
I'm looking to install my windows SSD in my Linux machine but I'm worried it might mess up either operating systems.
Currently if I want to use windows I unplug the Linux drive and plug in the windows drive takes a few minutes but I'm wanting to make it seamless.

I've been a Linux user for more than 15 years, of course my game runs on it! Here's Dawnmaker, a solo strategy game mixing city building and deck building to create a board game experience. We have a demo available on Steam!
UVC Capture Card (for FPV live feed)
I have a pretty niche problem who's solution will be similar to the linked post, but I'm having trouble finding a good UVC capture card that isn't the $320 Elgato HD60S+. I am trying to capture a live feed from a FPV camera, and I got a kit that has HDMI out (pretty rare). Ultimately, I'm trying to put this live feed onto a QT GUI running on Ubuntu 20. I don't need a very high-end capture card. All I need is a UVC compliant capture card (must be external) because I know it will run on Linux, and I could get the feed onto the GUI without much pain. The FPV kit can output 1080p 60fps, but the GUI doesn't need to necessarily refresh that quickly.
I've had trouble finding a card that fits this criteria and is well rated. I don't need any fancy gaming features. HDMI pass through would be ideal as I could feed that to goggles or a portable monitor

steam running like shit in gnome
i am having problems with steam on debian 12 + GNOME.
If not downloading anything it works just fine, but when it start a download it slows down my entire pc and internet(on my pc only), websites doesnt load, sometimes it freeze my entire machine and i need to reboot, meanwhile steam says its downloading at 6mbps but its actually at 200kbps at max.
using GNOME on wayland i get freezes that i need to reboot the machine.
using GNOME on xorg i get no freezes but the network it still massively slowed down.
using XFCE it works just fine, no freeze, no slow down.
anyone else running into this problem?

Anno 1800
(I do compare running Anno 1800 on Arch, wayland, nvidia(beta-driver) and on Win 10, same Hardware, same SSD, new campaign + an hour of playing)
First of all, in the end the game runs great on both systems. Here are the buts:
The long loading times we all know and love from Windows are almost double on linux
fps'wise it doesn't matter if I started windows or linux (wow, linux DID advance in the last ten years after I last checked in)
On windows, it never crashed (not in this hour nor in the 100 hours previously in an other save), on linux I got a lovely "xwayland crashed" to desktop :(
Anyway, the questions:
why the long loading times?
when will this X11/wayland/... - transition finaly be over?

Kill cam crash in Ovetwatch 2
It's not a >actual< problem since I can just disable it and the games runs perfectly fine. Im just curious tho since this wasn't a issue on Windows.
Any other OW player here with a similar problem? Using the latest version of Proton

I keep getting this error when trying to run Altium Designer 24 (Cracked btw). Installer runs and finishes fine, but the program itself gives off this error.

Has anyone gotten Black Ops 2 running on linux?
Plutonium works just fine but the base game doesn't work at all and I want to play the campaign, I'm on Pop OS and all I got when running it was a black square window at the corner of the screen that doesn't do anything, tried a bunch of the workarounds on protondb but none worked so I thought maybe I can find help here, I ran both proton expiremental and GE and both led to the same result

Wayland compositor: game window disappears during manual/auto saves but only when moving the mouse.
I'm playing Dwarf Fortress native Steam edition with the DFHack extension (also native Steam edition) on the following system (scroll to bottom for TLDR):
KDE Plasma 6.0.5
Kernel 6.8.11-300.fc40.x86-64
Wayland
Fedora Linux 40
AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core
AMD Radeon RX 6600
MS-7C56
31.3 GiB of RAM
The game runs in a separate Wayland window on starting. (It's the yellow 'W' symbol on the taskbar for those who are using the default icons on KDE).
Details of the bug:
During a manual or automatic save, the game window disappears. The game music still plays. The game process is still running in System Monitor. The game is still reported as running in Steam. The game window is not reachable on alt+tab, or on switching desktop. The game cannot be relaunched in Steam because Steam reports that it is "already running". Suspending the process in System Monitor pauses the music. Un-suspending the process in System Monitor causes the music to continue playing. I cannot make the game window re-appear and have to terminate the process.
How to recreate:
Using the above distro, kernel and graphics environment, generate any world and embark with the default profile. Manually save the game. The game window disappears at a random time during the save process. No error is reported in the game logs.
Testing (important):
The game will save consistently and will complete the save process and the game window will not disappear ONLY IF the mouse cursor remains absolutely static during the entire save process. If the mouse is moved, if the game window is defocussed by clicking another window or alt-tab, if the mouse is moved off the game window, if the mouse is moved in a figure of 8 inside the game window, the game window will disappear during the save process.
TLDR:
Can you assist me with a few things:
(1) if I run the executable on the command line I get
```./dwarfort: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2_image-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
```
Is Steam running the game with command line args to point the game process to the SDL2 lib? I'd like to run the game from the command line to see if it tells me anything when it crashes.
(2) Do you have any insight as to whether this bug might be a (a) Fedora issue, (b) SDL2 issue, (c) Wayland issue, (d) Dwarf Fortress issue, so I can post the bug via official channels?
Thank you...

Failure to create another wine prefix, in both Lutris and Wine
