Ubuntu 24.10: Nvidia Driver Issue(link is external)
Hello. I have a problem with the 570 version of the nvidia driver. After installing it and rebooting the system. I guess it just simply isn't used. The latest driver I can install, without issues, is 560. After running lshw -c video this is the output:

Remove windows from Rog Ally X?(link is external)
Is it possible to remove windows and partition all my storage on the stock SDD to Bazzite? I have my Rog Ally X dual boot Bazzite/ Windows, however I play zero windows games, but I'm out of storage on the Bazzite side. I'd rather not swap the SSD if I don't have to.

Lutris/Wine/AMD is ludicrously pain-free.(link is external)
The combination of lutris, wine, and AMD gpu is pain-free. I haven't had to deal with any of the DLL problems. Nvidia, on the other hand, is a never-ending chase of trying to figure out the correct version of c++ and direct x runtimes.

7800xt linux RADV mesa vs mesa-git(link is external)
Hey,
I just bought rx 7800xt and getting it tommorrow to replace my A770. (Intel gpu on linux wasn't as bad as people say).
How's RADV in mesa-git compared to stable mesa?
is it stable enough to not bother with bleeding edge drivers in 7xxx series?
Never had AMD GPU on linux and I wonder how it is compared to Intel one.
Current configuration is fedora 42-beta with mesa-git and I'm wondering about changing to stable mesa.
sorry for not using arch btw

Gaming on a Clinical PC running Linux(link is external)
Over the last several months I have started making tech-focused videos, typically about gaming on obscure and strange hardware under Linux. The most recent was about a clinical AIO PC that happens to run a strange custom distro of Linux. I've been having a lot of fun with these, but I could use some help! I'm being buried algorithmically since I made a hard pivot from the early content on my channel. The people who have watched my recent output have all given kind words, so I hope you enjoy!

Playing on (X)Wayland horrible perfomance on Nvidia 570(link is external)
In Steam for game i have set
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland
if nothing here, so Steam default is running it on XWayland.
When I last tried XWayland half a year ago (in KDE 6.1), it ran fine.
But now it runs terribly badly (GNOME48). Unplayable. Especially if I lower the resolution. It's recalculating in a strange way. And I get about 3FPS.
If I force the game to run directly on Wayland, it runs smoothly.
Does anyone have any idea where the problem with XWayland is?
I'll try testing it again on KDE 6.3.
I will experimenting with new settings from

Hollow Knight Controller and Modding Issues(link is external)
Hello everyone! Tonight I would like to drag you all into what I have spent the last few hours tearing my hair out over.
TL;DR: I’m having trouble with my PS5 controller mapping correctly in Hollow Knight. When I get the controller working, it breaks my fixes for running at 3440x1440. I need help getting the controller working without breaking widescreen, and figuring out how to launch mods through Steam would be nice too.
Description:
I’m using Arch Linux (Kernel: 6.13.8-arch1-1) and I’ve encountered several issues while trying to play Hollow Knight with my PS5 controller at 3440x1440 resolution.
- Controller Issue: When I plug in my DualSense 5 controller, Steam recognizes it, and button inputs show correctly in the Steam controller test. However, once I launch Hollow Knight, the controller mapping is broken—RT is mapped to both dash and menu, making the game unplayable.
- I’ve tried enabling/disabling Steam Input, installing the Controller Fixes mod, and launching the game with and without Steam Input. No change.
- The only thing that works is launching Steam in Steam Deck mode with this command: gamescope -W 3440 -H 1440 -f -e -- steam -steamdeck. This lets me play the game with correct controller mapping, but I don't understand why.
- Resolution Issue: Hollow Knight doesn’t natively support 3440x1440. I used a hex edit to Assembly-CSharp.dll, which properly fixes the resolution. However, when I run the game in Steam Deck mode, the resolution is reset to 16:9, and the game only fills the center of the screen. I suspect Steam Deck mode uses a different DLL for some reason.
- Mods and Widescreen: I installed the WideCamera mod to fix the widescreen issue, but it only works when running the game through the Lumafly mod manager, and I lose the fixes from steamdeck mode. I tried adding Lumafly as a non steam game, so I could open it after launching the steamdeck mode, but then the controller fixes don't apply. I tried making a script called Hollow_Knight.x86_64 that directs to Lumafly, so that launching hollow knight through steam would launch Lumafly, but then when I click "launch modded game" in Lumafly it gives the error "an instance of Hollow Knight is already running". Which, of course, Steam thinks it is because I renamed the executables.
I need to get both:
- Working controller mappings (like in Steam Deck mode).
- Widescreen resolution (3440x1440) with mods enabled.
What I Need Help With:
- Why does Steam Deck mode fix the controller mapping? Is there something I can replicate outside of Steam Deck mode to keep the controller working?
- If I can't replicate those fixes outside of Steamdeck mode, can I get Lumafly to run inside of steamdeck mode and keep the controller fixes?
Hope you guys can give me some pointers, or go somewhere in the right direction, because I am thoroughly lost.
Edit: 1 more thing. I borrowed a knock-off Xbox 360 controller, and it did work correctly out of the box. The PS5 controller does work perfectly out of the box (after disabling the touchpad) for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It also works out of the box for Hollow Knight on Windows 11. It is something about the PS5 controller, on linux, for Hollow Knight specifically that is going wonky.

F1 23 no longer available to buy on steam(link is external)
I noticed yesterday that EA removed F1 23, the last F1 game that you could play on Linux that wasn't using EA's kernel level anticheat
You can only get F1 23 through EA play or a cdkey or last one...pirating F1 22 as F1 23 has DRM protection
The fact that steam deck or Linux desktop users need to go through this is so stupid
F EA :)

Nvidia Alternative to ChimeraOS?(link is external)
Until recently my family has been using a mini-pc running ChimeraOS to run games on the living room tv, but we recently got a new tower sold to us by a friend. It comes with an Nvidia 4060. And honestly using windows in Steams Big Picture Mode is honestly really clunky and leaves alot to be desired.
So I was wondering if there was an alternative to ChimeraOS with support for Nvidia cards, I know that ChimeraOS doesnt support them. But are there any altenatives that provide the steamdeck like console dashboard but supports Nivdia?

A Way Out - controller doesn't work(link is external)
Hi, everyone. We're trying to play A Way Out. Other info: Fedora 41, Steam (flatpak), both controllers are Dualsense.
The problem: the game can't see the controller. Pressing buttons don't do anything. We wanted to do couch co-op.
What I've tried already: I went to ProtonDB(link is external) to see if anyone had similar issues. Not really related to couch co-op, no. But on the web at large, people were having problems with making Dualsense work with this specific game. Sadly, the "fixes" there only really apply to Windows, not Linux.
Anyway, as some people were having problems with EAapp, I tried what's mentioned by this user(link is external), who were in its turn using this guide(link is external). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for me. I couldn't get it to work, then I deleted everything, including the game, reinstalled, and I re-did all steps carefully, without launching the game until finished with the whole process. When I finally tried to launch the game, the EAapp installation script was activated all the same. Difference is that now I can't launch the game at all. (As observations, I didn't forget to tick "pretend EAapp is installed", nor did I forget to add the launching options to Steam.)
On my first try, I also tried to enable and disable Steam Input, didn't make a difference either. I have steam-devices installed. The controller works in other games. I hope I'm not forgetting other important info. Please help me :(

guide: how to duel wield steam(link is external)
idk if anyone has come across the same issue as i have, but just in case:
how to duel wield steam on linux: the guide"what does that mean?"
it means having the linux version of steam installed AND the windows version of steam installed, at the same time.
"why would you want to do that?"
some games run on linux just fine, or through proton (steam's integrated windows emulator) just fine, but are buggy when they run through wine (common 3rd party windows emulator). but other games won't run on linux at all, and will only run on wine. so if you have only one, you will be more limited in what games you can play on your linux computer than if you have both -- you can install the games that work on linux through the linux one, and the ones that work on wine through the wine one!
you can have shortcuts to games on your desktop like normal, so once you get both steams installed, you don't have to worry about which one will run each game -- it'll automatically run through whichever steam you installed it through!
"that sounds like a lot of work"
eh, kinda? less than it took to install other stuff on my pc. but if you have linux, you're probably used to working a bit harder to get windows stuff working.
first things:im using linux mint, which is Ubuntu. idk if this will work for other configurations of linux.
you need to install wine for this, or already have it installed. that is a complex process i will not be explaining here; there are many guides out there for it, so please go look at one of those!
okay time for the actual guide step 0: uninstall wine steamif you do not have steam installed at all, this can be skipped. if you have just the linux version installed, you also don't need to worry about this.
if you do have steam installed through wine, you need to uninstall it to hopefully prevent any conflicts later on. you can do this by going to the linux menu in the corner, hovering over wine, and there should be an option for a program that says something along the lines of 'uninstall or modify programs in wine'. open that.
it should open a window that lists all of the apps and programs installed in wine. it should also have a button that says 'uninstall/modify'. if the window doesn't have that, and instead has tabs at the top, you have the wrong window.
once you have the window, scroll down to steam. select it and choose uninstall. if you have any steam games installed that show up on the list, you may want to uninstall those as well.
step 1: install linux steamif you already have done this, you can skip this step.
if you haven't, then go to the linux menu in the corner. find and open Software Manager. this should open a window that gives you an option to use a search bar at the top to look for programs to install. search for steam. click install.
once installed, open and log in. you will know it's the linux version by going to your library. above your list of games, there should be a penguin icon that you can click on to sort games by what can run on linux.
close steam.
step 2: download windows steamopen your browser and go to the steam download page. the biggest button will be the download for linux; do not press this one. instead, right below it, it should say: Also Available On. and it will have symbols for other OSs. click the windows symbol.
this should start an automatic download of an exe file. put this file somewhere you can find it easily; i dragged it onto my desktop.
step 3: install the exeremember the wine window we opened before? the one to uninstall programs? go to that.
once that's open, there should be a button near the top that says something like 'install'. click this. choose the exe file, and install.
it should immediately open up the steam installation wizard; go through it like normal and install steam.
log in. check your library; if it's the windows version, it WON'T have the penguin icon that the linux one does.
step 3.5 (optional): create desktop shortcutsyou can create a desktop shortcut for these by going into the linux corner menu, finding the program, and right-clicking. you should see the option to create a desktop shortcut. click this. the linux version will be under the games tab, while the windows version will be under the wine tab.
(note: if nothing shows up, like what happened with me, close everything and restart your computer. it just installed a lot and may need to reload. it fixed the issue with me.)
once you have the shortcuts, you can label each accordingly. if you are unsure which is which, you can right-click, select properties, and the one that has WINE-something in the launch instructions is the windows one. having them labeled will make it easier to navigate in the future.
step 4: install gamesnow you can install games with either one! for example, Roots of Pacha runs buggy in wine, but great on linux, so i installed it via the linux steam! meanwhile, Wobbledogs is unplayable on linux, but runs great in wine, so i installed it through the windows steam!
i did this by opening the steam that corresponds to the OS i want to install a game on, and following the normal process of installing a game on steam.
i selected 'create desktop shortcut' when it asks (right when you click install!), and have had no issues -- when using the shortcut, the game will run using the steam you installed it on.
if you don't like shortcuts, you will need to open the steam that has the game you want, and select Play from there.
That's It!hope this guide was helpful! it was certainly nice for me to find a way to play games with the least amount of bugs. especially since more people are switching to linux.idk if anyone has come across the same issue as i have, but just in case:

Question about flatpak(link is external)
I bought a GMKtec K11 mini PC mainly for gaming Steam games. I planned on my family to use it as well. I'm going to use Debian 12 stable as my main OS.
I am going to be using the Steam from flathub to install Steam because I had issues with the native install. I also want to use the Sunshine flatpak.
The question that I have is do I have to do something special to get Sunshine working since it is a flatpak or should I use the appimage?
