I need help to install drivers (i think)

1 May 2026 - 12:15pm

I installed Arch Linux, downloaded Mesa, downloaded Intel drivers, etc., but many games on the platform won't even open, requiring DirectX 11 for example.

Why is steam writing into my home directory when the game is installed on another drive?

1 May 2026 - 11:15am

My PC is currently super slow while it's updating Diablo 4. What's weird is that the load of my home directory (sdc) is at 100% while steam is apparently writing into it, although my games installed on another drive (nvme0) - why's that?

Proton-CachyOS not working under Heroic Launcher.

1 May 2026 - 11:14am

Running KDE Neon 6.6.4, Proton-CachyOS works fine under Steam. However if I select Proton-CachyOS under Heroic launcher, it doesn't matter what game I run, the game simply fails to launch. If I revert back to Proton-GE-Latest the game launches and runs perfectly.

Has anyone got Proton-CachyOS working under Heroic Launcher under a distro that's not CachyOS?

Do you keep a known-good Proton version around, or just run latest?

1 May 2026 - 9:05am

I’ve basically started treating Proton versions like save points. If a game is working, I keep that build around instead of assuming Experimental or the newest GE release will behave next week.

Curious how many people do that versus just running latest and sorting it out later.

Custom Sensor with MangoHud, beginner needs help. Thanks

1 May 2026 - 8:33am

Hello@all,

Thanks for helping.

I switched to Garuda linux a fiew weeks ago and setting up MangoHud for the system.

I found a tool called Mango Juice that made the values i wanted to pick easy.

But i have one "custom Sensor" i need to put in manualy.

I have located it already and put it in the mangohud.conf file but i dondt get an output, so i guess my systax is wrong.

With Cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon4/temp5_input

I get the value i need .. so the path should be correct.

Because of Mangojuice i think there are two .conf files in different locations, i tried both with no luck.

1. ~/.config/MangoHud/

2. /usr/share/doc/mangohud/

This is the Controller

nct6798-isa-0290

AUXTIN2

I put this line in the .conf of Mangohub under cpu_temp

"cpu_custom_temp_sensor=/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon4/temp5_input"

Has someone a hint for me, thanks a lot.

Wuthering waves doesn't load past 80% after 3.3 update

1 May 2026 - 8:29am

https://preview.redd.it/fr33fypdzgyg1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=cef7a0d163abcf11c70d0256c881774440716df0

Am I the only one getting this problem?

after updating, the game didn't load past 80, so I reinstalled the game, but the issue doesn't go away.

I am on Fedora 42, will updating to 43 solve the issue; or is it universal?

A Quick Guide To Getting Mint v22.3 Ready For Gaming

1 May 2026 - 7:54am

This guide was written with the Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition in mind, but works for the XFCE and MATE editions. This guide was written with the Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition in mind, but works for the XFCE and MATE editions. It should also work with the LMDE edition but I have not installed and test that edition. The content of this guide is a revision of the steps I use to get Mint ready for gaming as described in the following comment ==> https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1hr4kw9/comment/m4vo355/

It is not necessary to consult my comment linked above. My comment is included for the purpose of completeness. The content of this guide was written by me without the use of any AI chatbots. The target audience is anyone who wants to get Mint ready for gaming quickly, but the guide is written to be readily accessible to newbie Linux users/gamers. The guide may seem long, but it is a series of very short steps. Running through the entirety of the steps can be done in minutes.

Installing Mint, initial updates, and snapshots

  • install the Mint Cinnamon distro with the correct ISO ==> https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
  • reboot, login, and connect Mint to your router via Ethernet and 2G/5G WiFi
  • setup Timeshift and do the 1st TS backup (this takes 30-60 seconds)
  • go to "Update Manager" and click "Install Updates" to run the 1st Mint update
  • reboot after the updates complete

Installing the latest kernel and changing Power Mode

  • go to the "System Settings" app > "Power Management" and set the "Power Mode" to "Performance"
  • go to "Update Manager" > "View" menu > "Linux Kernels"
  • install the latest kernel and reboot using the new kernel

Installing Nvidia drivers (AMD GPU users can skip this section)

  • in the Mint menu, go to the "System Settings" app > Driver Manager > select the recommended driver > click "Apply Changes"
  • once the driver installation completes click "Restart"

Installing WINE

  • go to https://www.winehq.org/
  • click "Download", scroll down a bit and click "Ubuntu"
  • there are a few lines to copy/paste and run in the terminal... these are SAFE because they are coming directly from the WINE project as the source
  • when adding the WineHQ repository, ONLY copy, paste, and run the commands for Ubuntu v24.04... Mint v22.3 is based on Ubuntu v24.04 (Noble)
  • I'm going with the "stable branch" branch so, I ONLY copy, paste, and run the command for the "stable branch"

Installing Lutris

  • go to https://lutris.net/
  • click "Download"
  • scroll down a bit to the Ubuntu section and click the Github link for Mint/Ubuntu ==> https://github.com/lutris/lutris/releases
  • download the latest *.deb file (v0.5.22 at the time of writing this guide) from Github to the "Downloads" folder in the user home directory
  • open a terminal in the "Downloads" folder
  • run "sudo dpkg -i <package_name.deb>", obviously replacing "<package_name.deb>" with the name of the downloaded *.deb file
  • close Lutris (DO NOT INSTALL GAMES YET)

Installing Steam

  • go to "Software Manager" (GUI app store) in the Mint menu
  • install the i386 Steam package
  • after the install completes, close the "Software Manager", and launch Steam from the Mint menu
  • log into Steam
  • close Steam (DO NOT INSTALL GAMES YET)

Installing ProtonUp-Qt and GE-Proton components

  • make sure your internet connection is up
  • in the Mint menu, go to "Software Manager"
  • once it loads, search for "ProtonUp" (without quotes)
  • select "ProtonUp-Qt" > click "Install"
  • once the install completes, close "Software Manager"
  • go to Mint menu > "Games" > select "ProtonUp-Qt"
  • in the drop-down list right under "Install for:", make sure Steam is selected
  • click "Add version"
  • under "Compatibility tool:" make sure "GE-Proton" is selected
  • under "Version" select the latest GE-Proton package (GE-Proton10-34 is the latest at this moment), click "Install"
  • follow the above steps to install the GE-Proton package that is the version prior to the latest
  • with the 2 GE-Proton packages installed, close the "Install Compatibility Tool" dialog box
  • click the drop-down right under "Install for:", select Lutris
  • click "Add version"
  • follow the steps above to install the latest GE-Proton package and the version prior to the latest
  • with the 2 GE-Proton packages installed, close the "Install Compatibility Tool" dialog box
  • close ProtonUp-Qt

Documenting your installation

  • open a terminal
  • run "inxi -Fz > Mint_vA.B.C_inxi_report_after_full_setup_on_yyyy-mm-dd.txt"
  • open Timeshift and run the 2nd TS backup

(vA.B.C = the mint version) (yyyy-mm-dd = year-month-day)

I suggest a clean reboot and then install your games. With Steam you can have all games run via Proton or selectively use proton for some games. To use the GE-Proton versions installed you will have to select one in the Steam settings, or by specifying a GE-Proton version in a game's properties. The same needs to be done in Lutris settings.

Congrats the core setup is complete.

proton and launch commands

1 May 2026 - 7:51am

hello everyone. i have an rtx 4060. im aware thats a negative in linux. but im running bazzite and ive heard that proton layers and launch commands can help. with that being said. i got mango hud working. these are the issues im seeing in my game and im asking if you can help me understand where im going wrong

i am trying to play space marine 2

im running into an issue where my cpu and gpu both stay at around 60% and my fps stays around 55 avg. dlss doesnt seem to make a noticeable change. fsr doesnt either but looks noticeably worse.

frame gen feels awful so i avoid it.

would it be possible to get some help understanding proton and if thats my issue. i use proton experimental. i read on db that thats the most common fix. and using certain launch codes. the codes im using are as follows.

mangohud %command% gamemoderun VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv %command%

it seems to get my mango hud to work where i can monitor everything. smooth sailing. but fps is around 55 all the time and cpu is 60% and gpu is also the same.

i have an intel i7-9700k rtx 4060 and 32gb of ddr4 3200mhz ram. id love to figure out what im doing wrong. i am very uneducated so feel free to ask or make fun of me
