Newbie here, need help with The Sims

24 Mar 2025 - 3:15pm

I have been trying to get my sims game to run consistently without much luck hope someone can help

I have the sims 4 on Ubuntu and steam with most of the packs. The game opens and I can even play for a few minutes but as soon as I try to travel or save my game, this happened once and I was able to fix I believe, it crashes. I have my settings turned down to medium. I am on the current stable version of proton. I also don’t have mods. I am not sure what I could be missing to make the game more stable because everything seems like it should work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Heroic Games Launcher with Steam

24 Mar 2025 - 2:34pm

Hello!

I recently switched to Linux and used Heroic Games Launcher to play my Epic Games... Games. On my old machine everything worked and I added the Games to steam via the option in HGL and I could start the game with steam overlay and everything.\ Then I switched to a new PC and installed Arch on my nvme but now when I add my HGL Games to steam and want to play they say "running" for 2 seconds and then back to nothing. Starting the game via HGL works fine.

I installed the newest HGL version v2.16.1.

What could be the problem? If you need other information I will try my best to provide that.

Problem with Nvidia Drivers with low Vram Gpu. Is there a way to force the GPU to be on full power all the time, even when the vram is full?

24 Mar 2025 - 1:22pm

I have a RTX 3050 4GB. Running games is fine. Past two three months I have tried my best to make the most of it. Right now I think I have exhausted the workarounds. So what happens is the game runs fine there is no stuturing, but even though the vram is not maxed out for some reason the GPU Wattage goes low like 55W or something out of 75W. Can we force in to be at full wattage just like windows does.

Overclocking a 7800XT

24 Mar 2025 - 12:22pm

So I'm trying to overclock my GPU. On windows I could set a +15% increase to the power draw bringing it to about 300. For some reason on Linux its capped at 280. I've tried corectrl and editing the /sys files but I can only change the default and current cap not the maximum.

I'm on Arch Linux 6.13 with KDE. Ready to provide any additional info if needed.

Can I stream retro games under Lutris / PlayOnLinux?

24 Mar 2025 - 9:00am

I'm trying to centralise all my games on my most powerful desktop, and stream from there (Sunshine and Moonlight). I travel quite a bit and don't want to install games on my work laptop.

Steam and Heroic (for GOG and Epic) work fine locally and I should be able to get them up and running for streaming. It would be a nice to have to also be able to stream retro games that I occasionally run on PlayOnLinux (Warhammer 40k Final Liberation, Neverwinter Nights original edition and a few others).

State of Linux HDR gaming and possible help

24 Mar 2025 - 7:56am

What is the actual state of HDR using a distro like Cachy os (arch) and using KDE? Im someone making the switch from Windows 11 and the real tradeoff Iv had since switching is playing with nice HDR in my games like Cyberpunk, Silent Hill 2, and Stalker 2. I kind of messed around with steam launch commands and had slight luck but it never looked quite right. IDK if I was getting true HDR or HDR signal through SDR. Silent Hill was bright but like the entire image was bright and tht flashlight was way overblown. Im really looking forward to being able to just run a game in steam and click HDR inside the game. Is there any advice to be given if I'd like to get HDR working properly in games? A crucial launch command? I'm just typing some commands into steam right? Nothing more? Games should recognize my monitors capabilities and values correct? If this is a lost cause let me know so I can stop tht suffering lol

Do you notice any difference in multiplayer games in terms of input lag compared to Windows? I'm talking about games that actually work on Linux too, like Marvel Rivals, OW2 or The Finals etc.

24 Mar 2025 - 7:55am

The main question is in the title. Maybe if you know something that affects input lag negatively in these games while using Linux you can share it, so I can avoid it. Like I heard, that GNOME has higher input lag than KDE, I don't know if it's true, I like KDE more anyway.

Anyone have AC Shadows running on an RTX 5000 series with MFG and full ray tracing?

24 Mar 2025 - 5:17am

This game is visually amazing, easily one of the best-looking PC games out there maxed out and all the ray tracing on. I know that the game can run on nVidia GPUs now with the pyroveil fix but I don't see a single report on ProtonDB of a 5000. For the nVidia reports that report it working, no mention of settings, ray tracing, 2X FG which should work on 4000 series cards or specific performance numbers.

Can't get steam to work

24 Mar 2025 - 4:23am

Hi. Soo today was my first time ever using linux and me being ballsy i went for arc linux (kde). Everything was going well following tutorials and just chilling. Then i got around to install steam. And well its not going well. I don't know y its not working. When trying to launch it from discover it gives me error (0x3000) and when trying to launch it from konsole it gives me glx failed to create drl3 screen and failed to load driver nouveau. Btw when i was instaling linux i used ext4 and for my drivers proprietary. My pc is a patato it has a old amd rayzen 5 cpu and believe it or not a nvidia 1030. Surprisingly it is decent runs most stuff i use. And now i am starting to think that its not possible to fix steam cuz of how poopoo my gpu is. Watched many tutorials and got nowhere. Hope someone can help me fix this i would really appreciate it. If u need more info of what i tried i will gladly reply.
