Advice - don't forget 32-bit libraries

6 Oct 2025 - 8:18pm

Lately, I had a big dummy moment when setting up games through Wine. They worked on my previous build but they acted up on my new one. For instance, GTA San Andreas refused to play the opening movies or Morrowind couldn't start, unable to play music.

I tried many things until I found out the issue was actually on the Linux side - when setting up a new PC, I forgot to install the 32-bit libraries for compatibility. Particularly GStreamer plugins. Old games and even recent titles depend on those. Just a quickie I wanted to share, might be useful to some.

Logitech G29 Calibration on Linux

6 Oct 2025 - 5:57pm

Hey,

I’ve been trying to play some racing games (like NFS Heat) on Arch Linux with a Logitech G29, but my gas pedal is only registering as 50% pressed even when I floor it. In Windows, I’d just open joy.cpl and recalibrate, but I’m not sure how to do this properly on Linux.

I tried running jscal -c /dev/input/js0 to calibrate, but when I test it with jstest, the values are all wonky:

  • At rest (0% press): Shows 255 (shouldn’t this be 0?)
  • Fully pressed (100%): Only goes up to 113 (instead of, say, 255 or 32767).
  • The brake and clutch work fine, though. They correctly hit 0 when fully pressed.

This means in-game, I’m stuck at half throttle, which makes driving super frustrating. I’ve seen some old posts about manually editing /etc/joystick.jscal, but I’m not sure what values to put in there.

Has anyone run into this before? How do I get my pedal to register the full range? Is there a better calibration tool, or am I missing something obvious?

Any advice would be amazing. Thanks in advance!

Linux Bazzite 42 Still Wakes The Deep Wine C++ Runtime Library Assertion Failed! Error

6 Oct 2025 - 5:52pm

Linux Bazzite 42 Wine C++ Runtime Library Assertion Failed! Still Wakes the Deep Error

System info: Operating System: Bazzite 42

KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.18.0

Qt Version: 6.9.2

Kernel Version: 6.16.4-114.bazzite.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)

Graphics Platform: Wayland

Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz

Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.6 GiB usable)

Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6600

Manufacturer: MSI

Product Name: MS-7972

System Version: 2.0

Steam Overlay is off.

Compatibility is Force the Use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, Proton Hotfix.

Build ID: 19043348 & was updated Aug 24 2025

I am randomly receiving a Wine C++ Runtime Library error when attempting to play Still Wakes The Deep that says

"Assertion Failed! Program: Z:\var\home\bazzite\.local\share\Steam\steamapps\common\Still Wakes the Deep\Habitat\Binaries\Win64\StillWakesTheDeep.exe

File: ../src-wine/dlls/mf/session.c

Line: 2827

Expression: "session->command_state ==

COMMAND_STATE_SUBMITTED"

Press OK to exit the program, or Cancel to start the Wine debugger."

Running the debugger results in a fatal error.

Is there a setting I should change somewhere to make Still Wakes the Deep run without this error?

Thank you :)

Conan Exiles

6 Oct 2025 - 5:51pm

Something seems to have broken with Conan. Keep getting Vulkan crashes. Reinstalled all the vulkan items and it doesn’t matter if I’m using GE or experimental I keep crashing within 5 minutes whether launching in steam or lutris. Anyone else having these issues?

Trying to installing hearthstone in Nobara SO

6 Oct 2025 - 4:54pm

Hi guys,
Recently i installed Nobara SO as my principal (and uniq because i delete w10) distro for gaming, but i found a wall with Battle.net. The installation is done correctly, but when I run Battle.net, it says that the agent is asleep. Therefore, it does not install the game.

I tried what was suggested on GitHub, which was to delete the Battle.net folder from the installation performed by Wine (wine-ge-8-26x86_64), but that didn't work either. Right now, I'm a little lost and need some help with this, as I love Hearthstone.

I'm currently performing the installations with Lutris.

Anyone knows how to fix stutterings caused by cpu usage spikes in Spider-Man 2?

6 Oct 2025 - 3:24pm

I have a Ryzen 5600g, 16gigs of memory, gen 3 nvme SSD, rx6600. Normally the game uses 60% ish cpu when level of details set to very high and 30-40% when set to medium.

Is there a way to get rid of stutters? The game is so unoptimized. GoWR ran so smoothly.

I've created an armoury create alternative

6 Oct 2025 - 2:37pm

Hey guys,

After spending a year of my scarce free time on this project, I’ve decided to share it.

It’s an alternative to Armoury Crate, but for Linux (tested on Bazzite and CachyOS).

This application relies on asusctl and other tools and libraries to provide:

  • Performance profile control
  • Fan curve control
  • CPU/IO schedulers
  • Support for renicing processes
  • Steam integration if you have Decky installed
  • Battery charge threshold adjustment
  • RGB lighting and AuraSync for Asus devices (I’ve modified the experimental version of OpenRGB to only support ASUS devices, but I plan to add general device support in the future)

Here’s the link in case anyone wants to try it out and share some feedback:

https://github.com/Emiliopg91/RogControlCenter

Thanks a lot for your time!

Red Dead Redemption 2 Epic Games version with Heroic Launcher on integrated graphics intel iris xe - core i5-1235U - 8GB

6 Oct 2025 - 1:56pm

Hello everyone, I was trying to run RDR 2 on my laptop running Fedora with the Gnome Shell the way you can read from the title.
Essentially I've fixed some stuff with the following game arguments and environment variables:
arguments: -vulkan -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -cpuLoadRebalancing -sgadriver=Vulkan
variables...
USE_FAKE_EPIC_EXE = true
MANGOHUD = 1
MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE = iris
__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME = mesa
LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE = 0
VK_ICD_FILENAMES = /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/intel_icd.x86_64.json
WINEDLLOVERRIDES = vulkan-1,dinput8=n,b

After all of this I am now able to smoothly run the game in the main menu and settings, removing the frustrating 2D software rendering in that section.
But now, after the loading screen (story mode and online mode, that's the same behavior) the game slowly decrease the GPU usage until it reaches 0%, freezing this way the game and making it unplayable.
I have already tested the game using windows, and it works great, but I just don't want to make a dual boot system for playing it, as I'm sure it can run good here to.
The game also reports fake memory usage in the graphics settings, as reported in picture, and that's the reason why I can't edit graphics settings in game, but I need to edit the system.xml file in the pfx.

I have already tried almost every proton-ge, wine-ge version, now I'm currently using Wine-GE-latest.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Why does the game go in software rendering?
Why does it report a fake memory usage?
Is the fake memory usage the main cause of the problem?

One last thing: the game crashes if I try to go in fullscreen mode, it does not matter how: -fullscreen, game settings, everything makes it crash and no more starting.

fake vram usage up here, I have no idea what are that "other apps" consuming 5gb, really no idea.

Battlefield 6

6 Oct 2025 - 1:36pm

Genuinely curious. With Battlefield 6 launching this week and potentially representing DICE’s “return to form” with the franchise, how are Linux gamers dealing with this?

I repurposed some old parts for use specifically with a second PC to run Windows on, and I am basically treating that PC like a console. I contemplated buying a console, but this approach was similar in terms of overall cost.

Have others settled on other solutions?

Any Rust players out there? Join in anti-offline Rust server that is Linux-friendly (play.protobit.space)

6 Oct 2025 - 1:03pm

Rust has EAC anti-cheat enabled and its explicitly set to not work on Linux via wine/proton. As a result, server admins can disable EAC protection server-side, so Linux players can join. Note that it's not "cheaters paradise", as other separate anti-cheat methods are implemented.

So I invite you all (both Linux and Windows players) to play on a server that allows raiding, but has anti-offline mod/plugin installed: Protobit

What surprised me is that they have super active admins who promptly and professionally respond to players. Their website is pretty basic, but they have a Discord server (https://discord.gg/CktVj4Ax) as well. Server also has some quality of life mods that doesn't change core Rust gameplay, but greatly enhances the experience.

You can search for Protobit in modded servers list (enable "Show empty servers" filter), or you can also join directly via F1: connect play.protobit.space

While other popular Linux server implements no-raid policy, I don't think this is how Rust is intended to be played. This server is trying to fix it by allowing online raiding, while still keeping it chill by having anti-offline raid protection, so you can sleep without 24/7 monitoring your base.

Currently, there are not a lot of players playing in protobit server, but it's always more fun when there are more players?

And most importantly - both Linux and Windows players are welcome! :)

P.S. I am not an admin of this server, just know those guys who administrate it and so far I am very satisfied with the quality of the server.

OS switch fixed gpu coil whine ?

6 Oct 2025 - 12:07pm

I´m new to daily driving Linux and noticed something interesting. My rx 6900xt used to have pretty noticeable coil whine ever since i got it. Under Windows 10 it was some what annoying when browsing the web, but not to distracting during gaming.

However since i switched to Brazzite as my daily driver I haven´t noticed any coil whine. So I´m curios could this be driver related or dose anyone another explanation?

Linux Laptop, Lutris, and Problems with Fallout 4

6 Oct 2025 - 11:00am

Hello,

I've been trying to get Fallout 4 to work on my laptop through Lutris. Every time I try to run it, I get a black rectangle that appears for a second and it terminates.

This only happens when I try to use the discrete graphics card (GTX 1050M).

I've been trying to use different types of wine versions(wine, proton, system) and disabling features like AMD Super Resolution and Feral GameMode.

Let me know if you any tips.

Specs:

Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)

GETAC S410G2

Intel Core i7-8650U

UHD Graphics 620, NV137

PC can't upgraded to windows 11, so I am thinking of switching to Linux

6 Oct 2025 - 10:28am

I have a reallllllly PC (10 years old I think), I mainly use that PC to watch videos, talk on discord and play some very old or very small (less than 10 Gigabyte) steam games. I do all my work on my University laptop and don't need the PC for any of that.

Since microsoft is ending support for windows 10 I was thinking of switch to Linux since I think there are many different verisons of it, I think? and they still get updates. But now I don't know which version I should switch to because I heard some version aren't able to operate steam games very well. So can someone tell me which version of Linux would work the best for using firefox, discord and steam?

Edit: Oh also how do I check for updates?

Edit 2: Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I will go with Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition, since it seems the most common for beginners.
