Performance Concern of Linux on a GTX 1650 laptop
Hello I'm one of those lifelong windows users finally deciding to jump ship for the penguin
I've done the research on drivers, desktops and apps and I'm fine with all that
My only catch is that I'm running a laptop with an Intel i7 and GTX 1650 Hence gpu performance is already a concern on windows
The games i generally play are euro truck simulator 2, dirt rally 2, need for Speed heat i get 60 to 80 fps in these games and I'm satisfied with that, although I may pick up any new game here and there and play it for a bit . these new Unreal engine games barely run above 55 to 60fps on my laptop.
I understand proton is a translation layer, and there is performance loss, how much loss do i have to expect. Is the performance loss that great that I may have to consider staying on windows?
And no i do not have the funds to upgrade right now , staying with this for another 2 or 3 years.
Would love your advice on this thank you :)

I found my perfect distribution: Manjaro
A week ago I installed Manjaro on my computer as my main system. I only recently got to Linux this year. First, I tried Pop OS. I liked the modified Gnome environment, but it had very mediocre audio drivers. I opted for Archcraft to have ALSA (excellent sound), but I missed Gnome, so I went back to Linux Mint. This also has ALSA for audio. However, Gnome isn't well integrated in Linux Mint. The dock is hidden behind the start button (why?), and there's no notification area, so if I forget to close Steam, it'll be open. Hidden, but open.
So I decided to try another Arch-based distribution, but this time one that came with Gnome already built in and ALSA audio drivers, so I chose Manjaro.
Oh my God, everything just works here, including HDR! I had recently read somewhere that HDR on Linux doesn't work well, but here it works perfectly, fully mature. To my surprise, when I opened the settings menu and simply activated the HDR option with a single click, my screen flickered in a few moments, activating HDR mode, 10-bit color! Now I'll finally enjoy watching anime and movies again.
As for everything else regarding programs I've had to install, everything is in the store: Steam, VLC, Peazip, Handbreak, Lutris. Even OSU, which I had to install via console, works perfectly; in fact, it worked better than on any other distribution I've previously tried.
Oh, in case you're wondering what monitor I'm using, it's the 29-inch LG 29WQ500-B.
And that's it, I wanted to show my gratitude for finding the perfect setup for me and my computer. Thanks for reading.

Trying to get Marvel Rivals to run under linux mint
Hello Everyone I recently switched from windows 10 to Linux mint. I tried to run Marvel rivals but at first the launcher wouldn't come up at all so I found commands like steam deck %command% to skip the launcher but then it constantly gives me the pop up that my system does not support DX12 despite it does. I've installed the latest nvidia drivers. I've installed Proton GE. Idk what else to do.( i have a 3080ti and a 5800x if that is of any relevance.

NaK Update Vortex And Limo Support!
I have given NaK a few updates, for Limo and Vortex and a few other updates.
- Limo now has support which I think I set it up properly. It will ask you what game you are modding and let you pick any of your choice. It also includes the same fixes for Xedit and Synthesis that I have for MO2.
- Vortex has now been added and has the same setup process as MO2 setup. It will download the latest version and install it to the location of your choice, and ask you if you want to add it to steam. And then it has the same dependencies installs that MO2 has and adds enables dotfiles.
- And now dotfiles will be enabled when you run MO2 dependencies.
- Added the ability to remove NXM handling, as a request of some users.
Please let me know if there is anything I can maybe improve on, I don't use vortex or limo that much but I would be glad to a take a look into it. I'm planning on learning JavaScript or Go, to maybe make this project into a binary as well, and refine a few things.

World of Warcraft's framerate tanks on Ubuntu 25.04 vs 24.10. Is the culprit possibly Mesa? Only game with an issue that I play.
Ubuntu Studio (25.04, but I rolled back to 24.10 for the meantime)
Ryzen 5700X3D
X570 Aorus Master
64GB 3666MHz RAM
Radeon RX 6900XT
I've tried Proton-GE 9.23 (what I use on 24.10), 9.27 and 10.1, all to the same effect.
WOW's frame rate dipped from about 120 to 40 in open world, and from 60 to 40 in Dornagal. For some reason, the game is really liking 40 FPS at 25.04.
If you need more information, I can try to respond, but I'm no longer on 25.04.

Doom dark ages graphical issues
I have an AMD 7900xt. I managed to get mesa 25.0.6 installed. Now I can launch the game and get to the main menu except no 3d objects appear on the main menu screen. All I can see are things like the fires and particles. Then when I try to start I have the same issue. Freezes before the opening Cinematic is done any ideas?

sorry but i got a nvidia question...
You see in the first image which is from official lenevo website i found out that my gpu should be 85W.
but in the third image when my laptop is not charging it is 30W and when it is charging my laptop is 60W.
is it supposed to be lower then advertised or am i seeing something diffrent? cause i don't see 3050 mobile in there official web page but i have a 3050 mobile. are the drivers wrong? i don't know.
i would appriciate help or information. thanks.

Multiplayer Game Recommendations
I've been playing Deadlock for a while, but it annoys me more than half the time. The matchmaking is awful. It's miserable to be on the losing end of uneven teams for five matches in a row.
I've tried Marvel Rivals and the Finals. They're alright, but I'm not as excited to play them as I was for Deadlock (for a while).
I'm open to any type of multiplayer game, except DOTA (I'm over it). I used to play Starcraft in the past. I could play strategy, FPS, whatever.

Doom: Dark Ages issues
I didn't expect it to work the first day. I'm using Mint and ProtonDB 10.1 beta, and I get the video stuck after the first screen. Haven't had Denuvo tell me off yet.
Using the normal settings. Sadly I'm not Linux savvy just got Mint because I couldn't stand windows 🙂
ETA oh probably should add I'm running a 9070 xt and just whatever the default graphics were.

DOOM: The Dark Ages - stuck at 60fps? Doesn't seem performance related (Nvidia)
This doesn't seem related to performance at all. I have a 4090 but I also changed multiple settings and tried DLSS Ultra Performance and the FPS stays tacked at 60 no matter what. I feel like there is something off.
Anyone else? Launch options:
VKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_KHR_present_wait scopebuddy -f -r 120 -W 3840 -H 2160 --force-grab-cursor --hdr-debug-force-output --hdr-enabled -- %command%

HDMI 9070XT
I bought a 9070XT and the I am using HDMI-> DVI adapter on my second older monitor just fine.
So what exactly is the issue with HDMI on AMD gpus on linux? Is the hdmi linux issue only regarding the audio aspect of hdmi?

Best proton version for Doom: the Dark Ages?
Saw the post about Denuvo giving a 24 hour ban for changing the proton version, so I wanted to avoid that and just pick the right one booting it up the first time. Which one works best on an AMD GPU & CPU (Specifically Ryzen 5 5500 & RX 7600

Bizarre Black ops 3 issue i can barely describe
First off, VERY new to linux, installed mint yesterday. im playing black ops 3 and im having an issue with my mouse sensitivity(?). for whatever reason, when i flick my mouse, the in game sensitivity drops to practically nothing, and then speeds up dramatically when i stop moving. i saw something abt frame drops, but the framerate is consistent. any fixes?
