Omikuji: a Qt/Rust based game launcher 'cause genuinely why do I need 3 different launchers for my games?

6 May 2026 - 12:13pm

Link: https://github.com/reakjra/omikuji

As the title says, I was kinda tired of having three different launchers to manage my games (all love to them tho~), so I made one that manages the stuff I use. It's built with Qt/QML and Rust as a backend (bridged via cxx-qt).

Essentially it manages wine/proton runners, DXVK/VKD3D and game launching (ofc lol). It imports steam games (locally) and installs from Epic and GOG. Plus some gachas with their delta patches so you can update them through Omikuji. (basically gachas that are runnable launcher-less, downloadable from CDN and updateable with a delta patch).

Runners are configurable through a settings.toml instead of being hardcoded, means you can add whatever proton/wine fork you want and install them through Omikuji. Library is live-reload as best as I could, for the rest I tried to make it as usable as I could.

Tho, is it usable? Yes, its still quite early, I've been working on this for a while but I surely didn't choose best UI/UX stuff everywhere, UI might still have some flaws here and there and so on, but I've been daily driving it for some time by now and it works.

I'd be really glad for any report for whoever is willingfix enough to try it, it's exhausting being your own QA. Regarding getting it, since I'm absolutely unaware how to manage packaging, its currently only available through the AUR or manually building it :P

RTX 5090 on Arch Linux: Performance loss & DLSS support? Need advice!

6 May 2026 - 11:38am

Hello everyone,

I'm currently considering making the jump to Arch Linux, but I have some concerns regarding my hardware. I’ll be running an RTX 5090 and I’m a bit worried about the transition from Windows, specifically regarding performance and proprietary features.

As I don't have much experience with Linux drivers and gaming optimization, I'd love to get your insights on a few points:

1. Driver Stability & Performance

Since the 50 series is relatively recent, how is the current state of the Nvidia proprietary drivers on Arch? Should I expect a significant performance hit compared to Windows in heavy open-world or survival titles?

2. DLSS, Frame Gen & Ray Tracing

One of my main fears is losing access to "green team" technologies.

  • Is DLSS 4/4.5 fully functional via Proton/Wine?
  • What about Frame Generation and Ray Tracing?
3. Arch Linux Compatibility

I have a preference for Arch-based distributions.

  • Is the "bleeding edge" nature of Arch an advantage for such recent hardware, or does it lead to frequent breakage with Nvidia updates?

I’m really eager to leave Windows behind, but I want to make sure I won't be "neutering" my GPU by doing so.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Terrible Performance on Fedora KDE

6 May 2026 - 11:34am

My performance on fedora kde is terrible, I've used mint and cachy in the past and the performance is great, close to 70fps on Minecraft while playing on 8 chunks, but on fedora kde I cant even get 15 while playing on 2 chunks. Does anyone know a way I could diagnose this issue or how I could possibly fix it?

Distro for lenovo yoga pro?

6 May 2026 - 11:20am

Hi everyone,

can someone suggest me a good distro for my laptop Lenovo Yoga 14APH8 with a ryzen 7840HS and nvidia 4060? If possible I would like to choose which games will use the nvidia gpu or the iGPU.

I would use it mainly for playing some game through steam but I will also want to play some game like Runeterra, gog and obscure visual novel.

I would rather avoid Ubuntu/mint since they usually run older kernel releases.

Full-surface RGB desk mat + SignalRGB sync

6 May 2026 - 10:20am

Tried syncing this full-surface RGB desk mat with SignalRGB.

Not just edge lighting — the whole mat glows with the setup.

Looks pretty crazy in person. Would you use this on your desk?

VRR is unstable, any idea for fixes?

6 May 2026 - 8:32am

The problem seems more apparent on Helldivers 2 which gamescope can help but not fix entirely. It is present in other games but not really as affected as in helldivers 2.

Please reply with any idea you have.

Desktop shortcut for xcom 2 not launching the right version

6 May 2026 - 7:15am

so when you launch xcom 2 on steam, you usually get asked if you want to play the vanilla game or the war of the chosen expansion, there's also selected launch options which let you launch wotc as the default when clicking play on steam.

however, the desktop version is the vanilla game, and when i use ulauncher it shows the vanilla game.

HDR weird colors/overexposure in STALKER 2

6 May 2026 - 5:26am

Recently switched my gaming pc over to linux. So far so good, except this issue with HDR in STALKER 2, which I did not experience in windows when using the same in-game settings.

When moving from inside a building to outside, the game does an exposure adjustment effect that kinda simulates your eyes adjusting to the light. During that time, the sky has these crazy trippy colors that are not supposed to be there. Is there some issue with HDR implementation in Linux?

Game's running through Proton Experimental with the following launch options: gamescope --force-grab-cursor -f -w 3440 -h 1440 -r 240 --hdr-enabled --hdr-debug-force-output --xwayland-count 2 -- env STEAM_MULTIPLE_XWAYLANDS=1 DXVK_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 mangohud %command%

diagnosing proton launch problems? [Assetto Corsa]

6 May 2026 - 4:17am

I bought Assetto Corsa (looked fun, has VR support), which shows a Gold rating on Proton DB. Plenty of people report success, including those with my same OS (EndeavourOS) and some hardware similarities.

When I clicked play, the game wouldn't launch. I don't recall if it got stuck showing "running" or if it would go to running and then stop after a time. But, I tried Proton 10, Experimental, GE 9.20, and the latest GE 10.x.

I spent the whole night messing about, trying to get it to run without any luck. I've never encountered this annoying of an issue.

On a whim, as the last thing I did before bed, I booted up my laptop (same OS, more recent/less-bloated install), downloaded Steam, and then the game, and it simply launched with no fuss.

The current state on my PC is that I click play and it shows as running, and stays that way until I force kill the game. Below is a snippet from ps aux, which shows that the game is running, by some definition, but nothing is happening.

I have no clear steps forward. I don't have issues with other games to my knowledge. My setup shouldn't be too cursed. Not to mention, Steam is like, containerized I think? Or at least, it ships all its own dependencies like a flatpak/snap. Proton as well, I'm using the same version(s) between devices, so it shouldn't be a Proton issue. The only manifest difference should be my installed packages/system config, but I have no idea what to do, to go about figuring out the issue.

Texture Issue on Total War Warhammer III

6 May 2026 - 2:56am

Hello r/linux_gaming community. I humbly ask for your help in troubleshooting my texture problem with Total War Warhammer III.

This problem has affected me on both Fedora Workstation 44 and CachyOS. The problem is isolated to the Linux-native version of the game. The Windows/Proton version of the game works decently but I would prefer the Linux-native version if possible.

The problem is related to textures on the campaign map. All textures that do not have any animation/particle effects in front of them are blacked out. Please see posted image for reference. This results in the majority of the screen being blacked out. This problem is present on all graphics quality settings spanning from Low to Ultra. Disabling shadows and other effects does not rectify the problem.

My hardware: Intel i7-14700F, Nvidia RTX 5070, 32GB RAM, 2TB M.2 SSD.

So far I have tried:

  • Verifying my video card drivers are correctly installed.
  • Verifying that Total War Warhammer III is using the correct GPU.
  • Verifying the integrity of my game files using Steam's function to do so.
  • Fully uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
  • Fully uninstalling and reinstalling Steam.
  • Entirely new OS with new Steam and new game download.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

ProtonPlus not recognizing proton-cachyos-slr from cachyos repository.

6 May 2026 - 2:26am

As you can see the default cachyos proton version is installed (indicated by checkmark)

I just switched over to CachyOS after using Arch and its great but the interaction between ProtonPlus and Steam has been all kinds of jank. ProtonPlus doesn't detect that I have the CachyOS version of proton already installed on the system and when I click on the "Installed" tab it comes up empty. I'm just thinking about deleting proton-cachyos-slr from the cachyos repository and just using the latest build from inside of ProtonPlus because it is not working at all. Cyberpunk 2077 wont even launch using pretty basic Steam launch options: PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 SDL_GAMECONTROLLER_IGNORE_DEVICES=0x28de/0x11ff gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip --skipstartScreen

Everything else about CachyOS has been great but this is an issue that a gaming focused distro should definitely look into. Maybe it's not even cachyos's fault it could just be that ProtonPlus isn't checking the system for already installed versions of proton and then Steam refuses to launch since the compatibility tool "isn't there". It just feels wrong to have to delete Cachy's official proton package from their official repo and have to use a third party app to make it work in Steam.

My sims 4 is in russian and won't change no matter what

6 May 2026 - 1:59am

A little bit of context:

I tried installing the sims normally through steam, but I couldn't get it to install without Electronic arts giving me an error. Then I tried lutris and this and that. I finally got it to work through the fitgirl repacks exe, but now I can't change the language. I created a new drive? L:\ for it and other games. I edited some files, but I don't know if I got the place right. This is the path to the game repository on steam /home/rain89/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/The Sims 4. I tried 2 things:

  1. I tried to use the change language exe like it was explained in the instructions(I put it in steam and used proton experimental, same for sims, but it just selected englishnormally and didnothing), but nothing happened, no matter which language I selected. It's still russian.

  2. Stupidly, I tried to name the ACTUAL russian language pack the english ones name and vice versa. I'm pretty sure I editied the wrong files. I went here /home/rain89/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/The Sims 4/Language Changer (I undid it just now).

Is my only option to reinstall it? I'm pretty sure I choose english on setup.

My OS is linux mint newest (zena), latest wine that's giving me complications, proton exerimental. My gpu is nvidia rtx 4060(or 50), my cpu is amd ryzen 7something.But I doubt they're that important for this.
