Some Steam games stopped being playable even though they were playable in the past. I need help getting them to work.

12 May 2026 - 8:15pm

Distro: Fedora 43

Kernel: 7.0.4

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x

GPU: Radeon RX 9060 XT

GPU Driver: radv

Mesa: 25.3.6

Graphics Platform: Wayland

I would have liked to run Steam from the console to give the output error, but when I try to run it by the "steam" command it returns "bash: steam: command not found..."

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, Monster Hunter Rise, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, and Sonic x Shadow: Generations were playable for me, but suddenly, none of them would launch. I've tried to use:

  • Ge-Proton (latest)
  • Proton Hotfix
  • Proton Experimental
  • Proton 9.0
  • Proton 10.0

on them, but they will not work. I can run Monster Hunter: Wilds fine though. I installed Steam through Flatpak. I also have all the games except Monster Hunter: Wilds installed on different drives. Wilds is the only one installed on the main drive.

Linux confuses mouse buttons?

12 May 2026 - 5:32pm

I was trying to set up Half-Life for speedrunning on linux but it seems as if mwheeldown gets confused with mouse4 and mwheelup with mouse5, although this problem didnt exist when running the game with proton instead of ld preloading into the half life legacy (pre 25th anniversary version of the game) with bunnymodxt.so, is this because of wayland? I was using pikaos with kde (pretty sure you cant run bunnymod while running the game trough proton)

I absolutely need the bunnymodxt so file for speedrunning features and removing the speed cap!

Upcoming MMORPG with linux support as a Primary Feature - Hollowed Oath

12 May 2026 - 5:28pm

My name is Kris Takahashi. I’m one of the developers behind Hollowed Oath, an indie MMO that is currently 81% funded on Kickstarter at the end of its first week!

From the beginning it has been a primary goal of ours to provide a linux client, and as of this posting we have a linux client running really well in pre-alpha.

I won’t pretend I’m a big linux user (boooo I know, but I’m getting there!), however, our CTO is, and suggested that if more linux users knew what we were doing and how important linux support was to us, they might love it too.

Our opinion is that linux will continue to play a larger and larger role in PC gaming as time goes on, and we’ve specifically chosen the Steam Machine as our target recommended spec platform- which means that SteamOS is a first-class platform, not an afterthought.

So, let’s get into it! What is Hollowed Oath?

About Us

Hollowed Oath is a heroic fantasy MMORPG set in the beautiful yet fractured world of Orrathis, where a mysterious force known as the Hollow distorts reality. The gods have vanished and civilization clings to survival behind wards, houses, and relics as twisted creatures, rival factions, and echoes of a forgotten past threaten what remains.

We believe you have the strength to become an Oathsworn; one of the few powerful enough to stand between the world and its undoing.

Key Features:

  • You are Enough – Don’t be stuck LFG. Progress on your own time.
  • Create Unique Roles – Choose from 560 class combinations and thousands of abilities to become the hero you were meant to be.
  • Find Epic Loot - Rarity levels, weighted stats, and inscribed runes promise that each item can be epic.
  • Explore a Living World – Discover diverse regions filled with tension, secrets, and threats.
  • Dynamic Encounters - How will the Hollow affect your enemy’s strength and affixes this time?
  • Uncover the Truth – What happened to the gods, why is the Hollow here, and what can you do to help?
  • Be Welcomed - Join us! A strong community leads to a thriving world. Remember, it’s okay to just have fun.
  • Uphold Your Oath – Vanquish enemies alone or lend your strength to others using the Journey system!

Become the Hero You Were Meant to Be

Break free from the limits of single-class gameplay and design a hero that’s entirely your own. In a world of 16 distinct combat classes, you aren’t choosing a role; you’re creating one.

Multiclass any three classes at once across Tank, Healer, DPS, and Support archetypes to craft powerful, unexpected hybrids. Become a frontline Knight / Justicar / Runesinger who can shield allies while empowering them, or unleash chaos as an Elementalist / Illusionist / Assassin blending burst damage with control and deception. Prefer something unconventional? Try a Golemancer / Spiritualist / Beastmaster to command constructs, spirits, and creatures to support your team in nuanced ways.

Multi Class Character Creation

As you level, customize your hero further through the Oathline system. Choose from a shared pool of active abilities, passive traits, and stats drawn from your combined classes, and shape them into a kit that fits your playstyle. Blend powers, perks, and gear into a load-out that’s entirely your own.

You don’t just select your character from a list, you forge your own path.

In addition to your classes, have the freedom to choose from an array of fantasy races, each with their own distinct looks, cultures, and captivating histories waiting for you to explore. Craft your ideal hero or heroine and shape their identity with an extensive selection of cosmetics, armor styles, weapons, majestic mounts, and loyal pets.

How You Play Matters

Power isn’t just in your abilities; it’s in how they connect.

Every fight is driven by a dynamic Synergy System, where your skills apply and consume powerful states like MARKED, CURSED, and INSPIRED. Set up enemies with one class, then take advantage of those effects with another for incredible results.

Mark targets as an Assassin, then strike with a Justicar’s Divine Punishment to heal yourself or your allies while decimating your enemies. Spread curses with a Gravebinder that empower allies to capitalize on the chaos. Inspire your team as a Runesinger, turning coordinated strikes into unstoppable momentum.

Synergy Ability System

Become even stronger with timing, awareness, and creativity. Chain abilities across your three chosen classes to unlock effects greater than the sum of their parts. Whether you’re playing solo, coordinating with a party, or battling in large-scale events, how you play matters.

Orrathis Needs You

The Hollow is spreading, but it’s far from the only danger lurking beneath the surface.

Step into Echoes, instanced dungeons where reality itself has fractured. These shifting spaces twist the familiar into the unknown, filled with secrets, dangers, and stories waiting to be uncovered.

Within them roam Remnants, beings reshaped by The Hollow. Each encounter reveals fragments of what was lost and what they’ve become, as these creatures are unpredictable, tragic, and deadly.

Pre-Alpha Combat Footage

Beyond the Echoes, the world is alive with conflict. Rival factions clash for power, truth, and survival. Your choices will shape the outcome. Earn or lose reputation through your actions, influencing how factions see you, what rewards they offer, and which paths open or close.

Pick your battles carefully. Every alliance has a cost, and every enemy has a story.

Explore and Discover

Your journey begins in the Kingdom of Thalora, but the world of Orrathis stretches far beyond the horizon.

Explore a vast, open world shaped by loss, mystery, and forgotten history. Thalora’s ten distinct regions, from lush wildlands to shattered ruins, each boast unique biomes, flora, fauna, resources, races, and cultures. No two regions are alike, and each holds secrets waiting to be uncovered.

Pre-Alpha Drone Footage

Every ruin tells a story. Every faction has an agenda. And every path you take reveals more of a world struggling to define its future.

Nothing here exists without meaning. Every crumbling structure, every hidden trail, every distant silhouette invites you closer, urging you to uncover what was lost… and what remains.

Join our Community

Hollowed Oath is being developed in community with its players. The developers engage directly and openly share why decisions are made while taking into consideration community feedback.

Adventures are better when they’re shared, and in Orrathis, no one walks alone for long unless they want to.

Journey and Quest System

Answer the call of the community outside the game by joining Discord or in game by using the Journey system, where players in need can light a beacon for help and others can step in, turning strangers into allies in a single moment. Whether you’re lending a hand or receiving one, every encounter is a chance to forge new connections.

Stand with in game factions or carve your own path. Build a guild from the ground up, trade what you’ve found, gathered or crafted, and take on challenges together not because you have to, but because you want to.

If you are still reading, thank you! We will be around for the rest of the day here in linux_gaming and will do our best to respond!

AMD RX GPU - Base Clock speed by default

12 May 2026 - 5:14pm

I've been having this issue for a year, mostly resolved by manually adjusting things is LACT, one issue i still have is the power states section. When I change the min and Max clock it just applys the min clock only the 2nd power state leaving the 3rd power state still at the default clock speed of 1600mhz when the advertised boost speed is 2200mhz, when running a game that has issues with this (Over the Top) for example the frequency graph would look like constant spikes from 1600-2200mhz, the opposite end of the spectrum Helldivers 2 and Arma Reforger appears to use the power state correctly all the time.

Another issue I seem to have I assume is related to some kind of power saving, I do not know if it occurs after along time Idle or just high uptime but some random undefined long peroid of time later it's as if the software in charge of adjusting the clocks is no longer running and will stay in a lower power state no matter what unless restarting or logging off.

Does anybody have any suggestions or know of a way i can edit that 3rd power state in LACT as I believe that causes my first issue with the inconsistent clocks on a handful of games not most or any suggestion what could be causing this power/idle state issue after long uptime, for example i Will game just fine, go to sleep with the computer still running and in the morning it will be at reduced speeds on memory and gpu and refuse to budge resulting in 50% fps in games.

CPU doesn't seem to make any diff I've used R7 1700x, 3700x and R9 5950X in this machine all had the same issues

Specs:

Issues running FH5 on Cachy

12 May 2026 - 4:55pm

Hey, I've been trying to run Forza Horizon 5 on my CachyOS install for a few days already. Xbox auth always goes smooth but whenever i click "continue" and the game starts loading, It crashes soon after.

My specs are rx 570 8gb, i3 10105f and 16gb of ddr4 ram. On windows the game runs smoothly even on the highest settings, although here it doesn't let me in.

I've tried a couple of proton versions including 11 beta, cachyos-slr, multiple ge versions from 28 to the latest and it's the same on every single one.

I hope you can help me and if not, have a great day anyway

I need some help

12 May 2026 - 4:42pm

I'm 18 and my parents want to give me a big gift for my birthday (that was 5 months ago and they're starting to get impatient bc for months i didn't have a single idea about what to choose), i've been thinking about choosing a gaming laptop and use Linux on It, i've allready investigated some thing like proton and how to use It for example.

The two questions i have are:

How can i know if a online game is playable on Linux? This one is crucial bc i'm a Tekken scrub and i play this game almost every day and if i can't play Tekken maybe i'll pass and use Windows and i prefeer not having Bill Gates in my PC

Is there anyway i can instal a game i buyed on Microsoft store in a pc using Linux? This one is not that important but one of my favourite hack and Slash games is Ninja Gaiden 4 and i buyed It on Microsoft store bc It was cheaper there than Steam and i wasn't even thinking on using Linux.

Thanks anyway and have a good day

Nvidia 5000 series/Blackwell Vulkan driver missing WaveSize 16 support that Windows D3D12 driver provides

12 May 2026 - 2:05pm

Just wanted to share this while looking through the larger community in hopes that this gets fixed. Basically user cjkaminski on the nvidia forum found that WaveSize 16 support for games like Romeo is a Dead Man has been removed from Blackwell drivers.

I'll copy and paste the report in hopes that it spreads:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The NVIDIA Vulkan driver on Blackwell GPUs (tested on RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, driver 595.45.04) reports a fixed subgroup size with no flexibility:

minSubgroupSize = 32 maxSubgroupSize = 32

Previous generation Ada Lovelace GPUs reported minSubgroupSize = 16, allowing shaders requesting subgroup size 16 to compile successfully.

This causes a concrete problem for D3D12 games running on Linux through Proton (vkd3d-proton). Games with compute shaders that specify [WaveSize(16)] fail pipeline creation because vkd3d-proton validates the requested wave size against what the Vulkan driver reports:

d3d12_device_validate_shader_meta: Required WaveSize range [16, 16], but supported range is [32, 32]. d3d12_pipeline_state_init_compute: Failed to create Vulkan compute pipeline, hr 0x80070057.

These same games work on Windows with Blackwell GPUs, meaning the Windows D3D12 driver handles WaveSize 16 (presumably by running at warp 32 with lane masking or similar emulation). The capability exists in NVIDIA’s driver stack — it’s just not exposed through the Vulkan interface on Blackwell.

This is a regression from Ada Lovelace behavior and affects any D3D12 game using WaveSize 16 compute shaders when running through Vulkan-based translation layers.

Reproduction:

  1. Any Blackwell GPU (RTX 5070/5080/5090)
  2. Run a D3D12 game with WaveSize 16 compute shaders through Proton/vkd3d-proton (e.g., Romeo Is A Dead Man / AppID 3050900)
  3. Compute pipeline creation fails, causing rendering corruption or crashes

Verification:

vulkaninfo | grep minSubgroupSize
  • Blackwell: minSubgroupSize = 32
  • Ada Lovelace: minSubgroupSize = 16

Request:

Expose minSubgroupSize = 16 on Blackwell GPUs in the Vulkan driver, consistent with the Windows D3D12 driver’s WaveSize 16 support and with Ada Lovelace Vulkan behavior.

  • Proton: GE-Proton10-33 / proton-cachyos-slr 10.0

Problem getting 4k 60hz displayport to hdmi

12 May 2026 - 1:54pm

I recently ruined my rtx 3070 by breaking it's hdmi port. So I now can only use display port. The problem is the cable I use in windows gets 60hz at 4k no problem but Linux only gets 30fps. Apparently I have to buy an active displayport adapter but can't seem to find the right one. My question is has anyone do e the same but able to get the 60hz. I hear is a handshake issue between the GPU and os. Online it says you can tell Linux what display settings to force on it but I'm failing

RTX 5070 Laptop locked to 50W on Linux (ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025) anyone else hit this?

12 May 2026 - 1:53pm

So I just moved from Windows 11 to Arch Linux on my ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025 and my RTX 5070 is stuck at 50W no matter what I do. On Windows it runs at full 115W no problem so the hardware is fine, this is purely a Linux issue.

The GPU literally knows 115W exists, nvidia-smi shows it as the max limit, but the enforced limit is stuck at 50W and I can't change it. Even nvidia-smi -pl 115 just throws an error saying power management limit changes aren't supported for this GPU.

After a lot of digging the root cause seems to be that the kernel can't resolve an ACPI symbol called \_SB.PCI0.SBRG.BPWM, so the EC communication that normally tells the GPU its power budget at boot just never happens, and it falls back to 50W as a safe default. dmesg is absolutely full of these errors on every boot.

I've tried pretty much everything at this point. Changing DynamicPowerManagement from 3 to 1, manually writing PPT values to asus-nb-wmi, blacklisting the nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight module, flashing the latest BIOS (314 from April 2026). Nothing touches the enforced power limit.

asusd is also stuck in a boot loop where it times out every 90 seconds because it never sends the ready signal to systemd, even though it applies settings correctly internally.

My specs:

  • ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025 (G614FP)
  • Ryzen 9 9950HX
  • RTX 5070 Laptop GPU
  • Kernel 7.0.5-arch1-1
  • nvidia-open-dkms 595.71.05
  • BIOS G614FP.314
  • KDE Wayland

I've already filed bugs on the asus-linux GitLab and the Arch forums. Just wondering if anyone else with a 2025 ROG laptop has run into this or found a workaround.
