Totally unable to get MIO: Memories In Orbit working. Where do I learn what steps to try past different Proton versions? (also, the FAQ is broken.)

3 Sep 2025 - 9:03pm

This question may or may not be answered in the FaQ. I don't know, seeing as it's currently unusable.

EDIT: Tried it again with Proton Experimental to double check that I had listed the version right, and it just works now?! Okay.

So far: I am on the latest version of Linux Mint, and have tried Proton Experimental through Proton 7, as well as ProtonGE. On Proton Experimental, it loads to the main menu, but then is not interactive. I do know that one can use 'tinker steps' in the custom launch arguments section, but googling has proved less than helpful for what arguments to use when. Any additional information can be provided.

Touchpad issues in Steam

3 Sep 2025 - 8:37pm

I have Linux Mint Cinnamon installed on an older Acer Aspire F15 and am having problems in Steam. I’ll open a game, play for about 5 minutes and then the cursor stops moving. I’ve checked in terminal commands and it’s still registering movement and clicks but is unresponsive on screen. I’ve tried updating i386 drivers and a few other fixes to no success… about to lose my mind

Help needed - Gaming on a A10 8770E mini PC

3 Sep 2025 - 8:15pm

Hello everyone. I am aware this is an old CPU. It can play quite a few games on Windows 10 though, once the boot sequence finished and it finished loading all stuff it needed to load.

I have searched for information to see if I can use this system with Linux for some light gaming. I did manage to install Bazzite, and my initial experience with DOTA 2 was good (it runs better than on Windows).

It went downhill after that. Doom 3 is a no go (need to check the Lutris Linux port), Borderlands 1 GOTY Enhanced, abysmal performance. These two worked ok on Windows.

Are R7 graphics supported for Linux gaming? I read on some posts that it is, others that it isn't, others that say "it depends". Perhaps Bazzite is not the best distro for this machine? Does anyone have a system similar to mine who could perhaps recommend me a distro or some insight on configuration?

Specs:

HP 705 G3 Mini PC

A10 8770e AM4 CPU

16GB DDR4 ram

512gb NVME

1 TB HDD (can replace with an SSD if it will change anything)

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Low FPS RocketLeague(steam), game seems to upscale resolution somehow

3 Sep 2025 - 8:11pm

When running Rocket League in Kubuntu, I noticed significant lower FPS (usually well over 240 when uncapped).

Something odd I found while fiddling with settings: First I noticed the game resolution was set higher than my monitor by default, and when setting it on 1920x1080, letters became blurrier.

Then, when changing display mode to borderless (with 1080p), it decreased the game window size, revealing that the game does some sort of upscaling when it's fullscreen, and then enables the performance decrease.

I added 2 pictures to show the setting between fullscreen and borderless and the performance counter.

Thanks for any help/insight

How to play Fallout London on Linux: A Guide

3 Sep 2025 - 7:51pm
Prerequisites

Before starting, you'll need to own and have access to the following:

Heroic Games Launcher: https://heroicgameslauncher.com/

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition (GOG version): https://www.gog.com/en/game/fallout_4_game_of_the_year_edition

Fallout: London (GOG One-Click Installer): https://www.gog.com/en/game/fallout_london_oneclick_edition

Follow these steps to get the game up and running. Step 1: Install the Game

First, install the Heroic Games Launcher. Once it's set up, log into your GoG account within Heroic and install Fallout: London One-Click Mod.

Step 2: Fix Audio Issues with Winetricks

To prevent missing voices and sound effects, you'll need to install a specific component.

In Heroic, navigate to the settings page for Fallout: London.

Scroll down and click the Winetricks button to open it.

In the Winetricks window Install both xact and xact_64.

Post-Installation Note

After completing these steps, Fallout: London will launch directly into the game, bypassing the standard Fallout 4 launcher. Because of this, you cannot change graphics settings through the launcher interface.

You will need to adjust your graphics settings manually by editing the game's .ini files. Attempting to run the Fallout4Launcher.exe from the Fallout London directory will not work as some bug renders the buttons un-clickable and I have not found a way to resolve this.

What exactly is kernel level-anti-cheat?

3 Sep 2025 - 7:29pm

I have been using Linux Manjaro and Windows simultaneously for several weeks now, although I increasingly consider Manjaro to be my primary system. I mainly use my PC for university work (which functions flawlessly (mostly)) and gaming. However, I have played relatively few games thus far. I have heard several times that games with anti-cheat do not work or cause problems, but I use Easy Anti-Cheat with 7 Days to Die and have not encountered any issues. However, the new Cod's and Battlefields are said to be unplayable because of the so-called kernel-level anti-cheat. Therefore, I have several questions:
1. What exactly is a kernel anti-cheat? And is it even necessary, I mean, most shooters are flooded with cheaters anyway?
2. Would it be less secure to open this system for Linux systems, or is it simply a matter of laziness?
3. If it is just laziness, is the effort really so great that it is not worthwhile for developers?
4. How do you see the future of this problem? Is a solution in sight, or are there at least some approaches, or will I be "chained" to Windows for the next few years because of this?

3 Sep 2025 - 6:33pm

Hi. I need help with my Xbox Controller. It is a X|Y Series controller (model 1914), and it doesn't work over Bluetooth, but it does on USB. I tried xone (with a "Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows") and xpadneo, but it didn't work. This problem also appears on my laptop (Latitude 3540) and even my Steam Deck (256GB LCD). Could someone help?

Surround sound via eARC (LPCM)

3 Sep 2025 - 3:27pm

I'm trying to make my surround system work on Linux. On Windows 11, I do it by setting the sound output to Dolby Atmos. On CachyOS and Ubuntu, I get the option for 5.1 and 7.1. however, when using those, back/side speakers sound test still comes out from the front left/right and my receiver shows stereo signal.

Now my setup is a bit weird and complicated so that might be the cause. My TV is a TCL C7K and it's supposed to support LPCM 7.1 passthrough via eARC. My receiver (Onkyo TX-NR555) however is only ARC so I use an adapter to to connect from the eARC port on the TV and connect as an input in the receiver. This mostly works well but what I've never got to work is LPCM passthrough. I believe C825, my old TV, didn't support it but C7K is supposed to support it but I still can't make it to work so far.

I'm just taking my chance and perhaps someone has/had the same setup and issue as me.
I'm just starting my journey with gaming on Linux. I've been using Ubuntu for many years but I never really game on it until recently and now I'm trying different distros to use as my dedicated gaming OS instead of Windows.

I wanna switch to Linux but I'm not sure...

3 Sep 2025 - 3:24pm

Been a while since I'm on Windows 11. And while it was decent, I've heard that performance wise, Linux was just better. So... How can you switch from Windows to Linux, and what are the pro/cons for both ? I wanted to ask people with experience with both directly since it's the safest way to make a choice. Thank you for reading this

Steam Tinker Launch - Fallout4 - Vortex - ReShade

3 Sep 2025 - 2:40pm

I have used STL to setup vortext and mod Fallout4, i've tested this successfully and everything is working great.

However, I cannot get Reshade to work. I've enabled it in the STL menu options. I've used the install script and installed it correctly to the Fallout4 game folder. I've added the "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b" %command%" command to the Fallout4 launch options in steam.

But still cannot get reshade to launch.

Has anyone managed to get this working?

Has anyone used the new gaming distro Omarchy yet?

3 Sep 2025 - 2:10pm

I was curious how it is out of the box for gaming and performance.

Since it is Arch based seems good for new hardware.
