[Tutorial] Run the carbon private server on linux under proton to run older versions of fortnite(and the big bang event)!

19 Sep 2024 - 10:45pm

Note: this is only singleplayer and not the latest version of fortnite works. I will make a multiplayer tutorial soon.

DISCLAIMER: Don't ask for support in the carbon server as the problem may just be with it being run under linux, and this is not officially supported by them!

How to run carbon on linux
1: Download carbon from this server https://discord.gg/carbon-897532507048796210 (duh)
2: Install nodejs on your linux distro, search up how as im not including a tutorial for every single distro
3: Go to the neoniteV2 directory, run "npm i", then wait and then run "node app.js", this will start the backend(run this whenever you want to start the backend/play)
4: Install a build from fortnite-builds or the simplyblk archive https://github.com/simplyblk/Fortnitebuilds
5: Extract the fortnite build somewhere, keep it somewhere you will remember.
6: Type "wine explorer" so you can get the path carbon will think it is, go to the folder that has "FortniteGame" and "Engine" in it, copy that path and keep it somewhere.
7: Launch carbon by adding it as a non steam game, then select properties, compatibility and force proton then launching it, type in your username then you will have to manually type out the path since copy paste wont work for some reason.
8: Carbon should be working on linux now, if you have any issues dm me on discord(my username is stellareallylovestech)

Also if you need a video tutorial I made one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX74UHnjdRc

You can play the big bang event if you download 27.11, go into the big bang queue, press play then click the thing to the left of 1(or press f8) and type "cheat event start"

Hope this helped!

8BitDo Ultimate controller not working with Steam games

19 Sep 2024 - 10:36pm

I've got the base plugged in, connected to 2.4g. The controller connects to the computer, is recognized, Steam even recognizes it (and it functions in calibration settings), but it does nothing in games.

I'm not sure what info would be helpful here. I'm on Zorin OS 17.1. Please let me know what else may be helpful to provide context.

Anyone found a work around for Final fantasy 16 (not supporting GPU)

19 Sep 2024 - 8:48pm

![img](gy058a3s9tpd1)

So with final fantasy 16 doing this, I haven't seen anyone talking about it anywhere. The demo worked alright but the game does a driver check.

Most people who had this issue on windows fixed it by updating to the newest driver, not the experimental AMD driver which it doesn't work apparently, but that doesn't help me.

Just kinda wondering if this is a common issue on linux or if this was a uniquely me issue, since I haven't seen anyone talking about it. I am running NixOS on the unstable build fully updated, so uniquely me issues aren't uncommon, and yes my video card is supported.

Best game controllers that work seamlessly on Linux?

19 Sep 2024 - 8:42pm

With the xone / xone-dkms kernel driver module for Xbox One controllers and wireless USB module not updated for kernel 6.11 yet, I have come to realize that I really do not want to be beholden to Microsoft anymore in any way when it comes to my enjoyment of my PC and games.

A kind person on this sub helped me find the Cable Matters DP to HDMI 2.1 cable that works wonderfully, I come to you again with a similar request for help:

What are the options for a game controller that works with minimal on Linux? I'm looking for as plug and play as you can get, without relying on kernel drivers like xone.

Features I would like:

Wireless

Hall effect sticks

Rumble

Analog triggers

Preferably a low latency USB dongle instead of Bluetooth

Preferably a removable battery

Does this exist?

CK2 Resolution Size

19 Sep 2024 - 8:36pm

Hello everyone! Recently got moved over to Linux Mint and wanted to play some CK2. However, I can't seem to get the resolution size as I want it. I'm on a 1080p screen but this is as large as I can make the game. If I select FullScreen, it places the same size game in the corner of the screen with a black background. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Will I be able to run civ iv on linux? (not from steam or gog)

19 Sep 2024 - 6:09pm

I have the old files to run civ iv without the disc on my mac, but when it dies I was hoping I might be able to take those program files and run them on mint or something. I read that Wine is only for windows programs, and I was wondering how I'd need another pieces of software to do it, or if the game is too old or if that it's the mac version that would prevent me from running it on linux.

Many thanks in advance!

PSA: God of War Ragnarok does not run because of PlayStation SDK

19 Sep 2024 - 5:40pm

Just posting this as a heads up that the game does not currently run. After launching you're hit with the ""The program cannot start because the PlayStation PC SDK runtime is missing from you computer."" error message and the game closes.

Stretching screen with amd gpu

19 Sep 2024 - 5:10pm

The problem happens when I go from my resolution (1600x900) to some lower resolution. So with my old Nvidia GPU, I had a fullscreen with 1024x768px resolution. Now with AMD Radeon GPU, I have a borderless window that occupies 1024x768px. I want to stretch the lower resolution to my monitor's one. I'll be grateful for any help or advice!

Linux and anti-cheats

19 Sep 2024 - 5:05pm

hi, I have a question, please answer in detail. Are there any anti-cheats that work at the Linux kernel level? And is it possible to make one? And are anti-cheats safe from a privacy point of view? I have read a lot about how some anti-cheats work on Windows and it looks more like malware. Sorry, I understand very little about how the operating system works
