Shoutout to Warframe. Destiny come to Linux

26 Nov 2025 - 5:55pm

For some reason, I just found out about Warframe. When I was on Windows, I enjoyed playing Destiny 2 and kinda missed the experience after moving to Linux. Now I am absolutely addicted to playing this game! The combat and graphics are amazing and fills that Destiny gameplay void I had.

cant turn off Vsync. AMD gpu

26 Nov 2025 - 5:44pm

Something on my system is constantly forcing Vsync to be enabled. I cant get above 165 fps in any game . The problem is whatever is causing this is not even doing a good job since in some games the stable fps I get jumps between 140 and 170 (more demanding games like cs2 or the Finals) . At first I thought it was a problem with my GPU since it was never reaching full clock speeds unless settings are set to max , now I know that this is some sort of Vsync which is always on because in most non heavy games my fps never goes over 165.

Specs:
6700xt
Kubuntu 24.04.3 lts

6.8.0-88-generic
KDE

Issue on Wayland and X11

WHat I have tried:

Changed my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amdgpu.conf to this:

Section "Device"

Identifier "AMD"

Driver "amdgpu"

Option "TearFree" "true"

Option "VariableRefresh" "false"

EndSection

In games using the :
vblank_mode=0

(and ofc I dont have vsync enabled in games)

PS:Also this is 100% not a cpu bottleneck my cpu is powerful enough and this is not an issue on windows

SOLVED:

use

MESA_VK_WSI_PRESENT_MODE=immediate

Hot Take: Protontricks should not require CLI to assign steam location

26 Nov 2025 - 5:37pm

If we want to make this better for newbies (to make it smoother), proton tricks should be able to be assigned the steam location from a filebrowser, rather than the terminal.

For instance, when the error for proton tricks
"protontricks (WARNING): Protontricks does not appear to have access to the following directories: flatpak override --user --filesystem=/var/home/ME/.local/share/Steam com.github.Matoking.protontricks

To fix this problem, grant access to the required directories by copying the following command and running it in a terminal:

flatpak override --user --filesystem=/var/home/ME/.local/share/Steam com.github.Matoking.protontricks"

The prompt should immediately be "would you like to do that now", because it's already got the correct terminal line ready to go right then and there.

I know I'm going to attract some ire, but I'm as interested in the YOTLD, but it will require reduced friction for that to happen, and this is arguably not a power-user program

Went in totally blind to CachyOS. I've seen at least a 10% FPS improvement across the board. Are you kidding me??

26 Nov 2025 - 5:21pm

It's actually pissing me off how easy this was. I could have done this years ago.

I went in to CachyOS from Win11 yesterday on my full AMD rig. I messed up my first install by going with Hyperlnd environment and being clueless, reinstalled the OS (took 5 whole minutes) and chose KDE Plasma. Got Steam, Discord, LACT, and Spotify through package installer, and just hopped right into gaming. No issues. No tweaks. No setup.

And my games are running.... BETTER??????

Wtf is this.

CPU temps higher in Bazzite than Windows?

26 Nov 2025 - 4:48pm

Under shader compilation (with fan curve set in the bios and a 115W PPT limit) my 9800X3D reaches 85c under Bazzite, whereas on windows the maximum temperature is 79c. I know neither of these are particularly high for an X3D cpu but I’m curious why Bazzite is hotter. Does it somehow override my BIOS settings?

Trouble launching Arc Raiders - PopOS

26 Nov 2025 - 4:17pm

I recently switched to Linux from Windows and I have been primarily playing Arc Raiders which ran great at first for a week or so. Ever since yesterday anytime I try to launch Arc via Steam the application doesn't open.

I get a terminal pop up for Easy Anti-Cheat which closes after 15 seconds and the Arc Raiders loading window as seen in the screenshot. After about one minute, that window closes and nothing happens.

I am very new to Linux and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. I have rebooted and applied any updates available.

ARC Raiders not shutting down at all since last update

26 Nov 2025 - 4:16pm

Playing on Linux Mint

For a couple days now ARC Raiders doesn't shut down at all when closing the game, the game's process gets the "Zombie" status and can't even be killed with gnome, same for Steam, it's like these both apps are keeping each other form shutting down, I have to power down my PC every time now because it won't even let the system close.

I tried reinstalling the game, uninstalling the anti-cheat then running the game, changing the game's priority, but nothing. If anyone has ideas please share them because I'm annoyed beyond measure at this point.

Applying DLSS4 override using user_settings.py

26 Nov 2025 - 3:47pm

Hello,

I'm having a lot of trouble attempting a universal DLSS override with scopebuddy enabled on user_settings.py.

I'm very new to all of this so I'm definitely doing something wrong, I just don't know what. I have tested the dlss override using the steam launch commands and it does work but I don't want to do it for every game I want to apply it to. Is this the correct way?

Bazzite shortcuts launch options

26 Nov 2025 - 3:27pm

Hello guys,

Have anyone faced an issue of desktop objects of games ignoring all Steam configured preferences?

Here are two examples:

  • Wartales

I configured it in steam with LD_PRELOAD="" %command% launch option, helps to avoid fps drop. I also specify "OpenGL" running option.

When I run from Steam it looks like running smooth and no fps drops. However, running from desktop object semm to execute game ignoring all the configured options, so fps drops after ~40mins of playing.

  • Warhammer Vermintide 2

Same with LD_PRELOAD="" %command%, for same reason. Here I also downloaded beta version - "temporary_launcher_workaround" and choose a "Bypass Launcher DX12" launch option.

Running from Desktop leads to some microsoft software installation (failing in the end) and running some sort of launcher. However, executing from Steam just starts the game without any issues, installations and launchers.

I've tried adding LD_PRELOAD="" in desktop object in "command" and "arguments", but not sure if it had any impact. Also this thing does not sound like version management.

I've also tried to make changes in .desktop files but the only thing I was able to add is LD_PRELOAD="" before game in command line. It also does not sound like game version configuration.

I'm totally sure that this info does not matter here, but here is my spec:

  • Operating System: Bazzite 43
  • KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.2
  • KDE Frameworks Version: 6.20.0
  • Qt Version: 6.10.0
  • Kernel Version: 6.17.7-ba14.fc43.x86_64 (64-bit)
  • Graphics Platform: Wayland
  • Processors: 20 × 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700H
  • Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.4 GiB usable)
  • Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
  • Manufacturer: LENOVO
  • Product Name: 82RB
  • System Version: Legion 5 15IAH7H

Would appreciate any help.

How good are intel integrated graphics in linux?

26 Nov 2025 - 2:39pm

Is it comparable to windows, worse, or better? I know they're not the best for gaming but for simple indie games and older games, how do these perform? I have the intel UHD 620.

Just looking for some anecdotes, thanks!

Can I have macOS vibes and smooth gaming on Linux… or am I dreaming?

26 Nov 2025 - 2:27pm

Hello everybody!

Quick context: I have two computers — a personal one (Windows) and a work one (macOS Sequoia). Lately I've felt that Windows is getting worse, so I finally got tired of it and decided to switch to Linux.

I’ve been reading a bit and even asked ChatGPT (sorry) for distro recommendations. I use my personal PC mainly for gaming, watching series/movies, browsing, and occasionally working from home (I’m a data engineer). ChatGPT recommended Nobara, but I’ve also seen many people saying it’s not the best option for gaming. That’s where I started getting confused.

What I’m looking for:

- A distro that lets me play games without headaches.

- Something I can customize to look similar to macOS (not for the Apple hype, but because I really love the Sequoia aesthetics).

- Reasonable compatibility with apps like ObsidianMD, KeeperSecurity, NearDrop, Steam etc. Not sure how well they work on Linux.

- Opinions on whether I should use an antivirus on Linux, especially since I game and download stuff.

Basically: is it realistic to have “the best of both worlds”? Meaning a macOS-like look + solid gaming performance.

Any advice or experience is super helpful. I’m pretty lost but eager to learn.

Thanks for reading!
