As the title says I have been using windows for as long as I have been using computer. I was originally not interested in linux because I always thought it was really complex and if everything is working on windows why bother right but in the recent few months or so I have been getting recommend yt videos from someordinarygamers and PewDiePie and they installing linux and gaming on it and i have heard gaming on linux have improved a lot.

My reasons to install linux is just for fun honestly and as for what I will do well mostly gaming and I also play some multiplayer games so will the anticheat work? And also I use gamepass on my pc is there anyway that I can run gamepass on linus.

My system specs are 4080 super + 7800x3d and 32gb ram

Hello am gradually making my way to almost full linux gaming. Ive been experimenting using a cheap ssd. Really happy with using linux so far. BUT my question is, during the installation it asks how much space is to be allocated to linux and the rest is to storage. Ive allocated 200gb to linux and 800gb (the rest) to storage. Does it matter if linux uses the whole drive? As installing steam games it automatically uses the linux drive i can change it to the other drive. Is it better to install games on the linux drive or does it actually matter? Sorry for the long post.

Hello, I'm trying to get my friend who is running MacOS to connect to my world via LAN. I'm running Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS on my pc, every time they try to connect they get a no route to host error. I've tried adjusting the firewall to allow local connections, however that did nothing.

What could I do to fix this?

Games make the CPU run hotter on Linux, usually between 90-95°C, but when I try the same game on Windows, it's around 70-80°C. What could be the reason for this and how can I fix it?

I'm using Linux Mint and I have an NVIDIA graphics card.

I've installed Steam as Flatpak. I haven't imposed any severe restrictions on it, just disabled ptrace in Flatseal. I have no issues with the Proton overlay, and generally it's been running great.

Apart from this one thing - mods don't work. Terraria tModLoader is broken and doesn't launch. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ doesn't recognize mods. Even with enabled ptrace.

Has anyone run into this issue? Is there any way to enable mods in Steam Flatpak?

Last of us and Rdr2, i switched to linux 4 days ago and i wanted to test out the gaming on linux so i tried to install last of us from fitgirl repack then i got to know that i cant becoz its designed for windows and some guidance i got that install the game file from ankergames.net and use steam as a launcher to play.

So i just started the download and can anyone help me out on how to setup steam to use as a launcher, and also if anyone has free time could you teach what all i should learn while using linux for gaming.

Hi everyone,

I'm using an RTX 4060 Ti. DLSS Frame Generation works fine and is enabled in Cyberpunk 2077, but in Marvel's Spiderman 2, the DLSS FG option doesn’t appear. Only AMD Frame Generation is available.

I'm using ProtonGE 10.

Hi guys!

I don't really know what I'm doing here so I'm asking for help. Starting to get into play games on linux. Been using Fedora for over a year now. Not that much of a gamer, but through I'd try a couple of games.

Got angry at War Thunder - a real life tanker probably should not play tank games. Uninstalled.

Now trying Counter Strike 2. I got it to work on my beater walmart laptop. However, it's stretching it right to the limit to be able to play against bots on training and has a lot of freezes due to the iGPU not being very strong. Got it running in Steam but with the use of Proton, which as I understand it I shouldn't need to do on a linux native game.

I tried taking it off Proton and trying some launch options, none of which worked - crashed every time I got to the loading Vulcan Shaders screen (or sooner).

So I thought to look at the graphics driver to see if there is an updated one so I can increase the efficiency of my iGPU. I've not updated video drivers in many years - last time was at least 10 years ago on a windows desktop computer I frankenstein'ed together.

Can across a post saying the driver had been updated a couple of weeks ago.

What I don't know is:
- Driver's are normally OS specific, right?
- Meaning a WinBlows driver will not work on a Linux machine?

What's the next step if this is not a usable option for updating the driver?

Summary of Issue:
All Proton games on this system exhibit freezing or crashes likely due to a timing-related race condition. The severity varies by title — in extreme cases (e.g. Echoes of Yore), the game freezes nearly instantly on launch; in others, it may run briefly before locking up.

Troubleshooting Observations:

• Mitigating Workarounds:
  • Forcing Vulkan threading via VK_INSTANCE_LAYERS=VK_LAYER_LUNARG_threading can reduce or delay the freeze.
  • Pinning Proton processes to fewer cores (taskset -c 0,1) makes some titles more stable (though with very poor performance).
  • Adding verbose WINEDEBUG logging appears to delay onset of freezing, likely due to artificial slow-down of execution.

So got Dead Island 2 from the Epic Game Store and installed it using Heroic launcher, game seems to work ok but the video/cutscenes only shows a Test Pattern which makes me think if i continue i'll miss all the story.


I tried playing around with settings and trying different Proton versions and eventually got video working properly when launched through steam only but lost it when I mistakenly mistook denuvo DRM lockout with the proton prefix being corrupted and now can't find one that works again :(

Anyone have figured out the setting combo that allows video to work on steam?
