Dead Space 2, 3 - EA app license issue

11. Oktober 2025 - 19:49

Hey there, I am a bit new to linux and I'm trying to sort of transition to it with my games and other misc things. One of the issues I've encountered is with the Dead Space games 2 and 3.
They both have the same issue with not being able to activate the license.

(I am running EA app via bottles with proton)

A bit more info: I have NFS Heat also running in the same way and it works no issues. So I don't think its a bottles issue. (Keyword: I don't think)

System specs if needed (?):
AMD R9 5900x, Rx 5700XT

That's the error msg that I get when I launch them

Fullscreen, where is it ?

11. Oktober 2025 - 19:42

How do I fullscreen this stuff man ? This one is running through wine, even running on lutris doesn't fix full screen. There's not even the option to fullscreen this(blue button). Only close and minimise buttons are there. When I launch through gamescope then it doesn't run. Same problem on windows, the .ini files don't have any resolution or screensize options , what can I even do ?

Should we make a Kali Linux for casual use?

11. Oktober 2025 - 19:24

I've been thinking about this for a while and I thought it would be a good idea, but I'd like to hear from others who are more experienced than me, because Kali is for penetration testing and not for gaming, but I kind of have to use it because it's my job, and I don't have the money to buy a good USB stick to put a live boot on to play my games on another more appropriate distro. If you think the idea is bad, I ask you to give me tips on how to play on Kali without frustration.

FSR4 Deckyframegen tip for Bazzite/SteamOS/Cachy OS users

11. Oktober 2025 - 19:20

After installing Deckyframegen, instead of adding the launch commands, then going into desktop mode to copy the fsr4 fp8/int8 into the game folder manually.

You can just copy the fsr 4 sdk files into "~/fgmod/" folder, then this launch command will also install fsr4 at the same time. No need to go into desktop mode!

Note - You'll probably have to repeat this step when deckyframegen updates

Multiple games having issues

11. Oktober 2025 - 18:16

So I have a 12th Gen Intel i9-12900K × 16, an RTX 3080 and 32 gigs of RAM, just recently switched to Mint Cinnamon from Win10. Helldivers 2, Dark and Darker and Supermarket Simulator all run like ass, For The King crashes at title screen 100% of the time. I've tested a few other games and they run well, but why is it so hit-and-miss? I'm using the recommended drivers for the GPU. Really hoping there's something I can do to bring gaming back in line to how it was with Win10

Steam page opening ceremony for my game

11. Oktober 2025 - 18:08

Hi everyone! This is a very special day for me. After months of sleepless nights working on my game, the demo is finally ready! I’m super excited to share it with you and can’t wait to see you enjoy it.

If i made you smile today, please wishlist now on steam to support me, it is really a lot support for me. Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3896300/Toll_Booth_Simulator_Schedule_of_Chaos/

About the game: You tried to escape prison but got caught. Instead of prison, they gave you a debt. Manage a toll booth on a desert highway. Check passports, take payments, and decide who passes. Grow fruit, mix cocktails, sell drinks, and dodge the cops. The only way to earn freedom is by paying off your debt.

Thanks for reading

The game I built this PC to play still runs like garbage.

11. Oktober 2025 - 17:40

I'm new to both Linux and PC building. I was advised to pick parts based on the most intensive game I wanted to run, so I picked Crash Bandicoot 4 and with some help built a PC with the following parts:

-AMD Ryzen 5 4500

-Silicon Power GAMING 16 GB (2 x 8 GB)

-Asus PRIME B550M-A WIFI II

-Kingston NV3 500 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

-Asus STRIX GAMING Radeon R9 390 8 GB Video Card

The Linux distro I'm using is Pop!_OS (Version 22.04). But, despite clearly meeting the hardware requirements, when I run Crash Bandicoot 4 and wait after the opening FMVs and the first loading screen, the framerate drops to like 1 frame per second. I can barely get past the title screen.

I've tried a bunch of different fixes and looked in all kinds of places. I've updated the drivers with sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade. I've tried four different versions of Proton and put "gamemoderun %command%" in the launch options as suggested by ProtonDB. I know the display is coming from the graphics card (that's where my monitor is plugged in, the command line says it's using the card, and I don't think this motherboard has integrated graphics anyway). I've noticed the fans on the graphics card aren't spinning, but I'm assuming that's because I'm not using them long enough for the GPU to get hot.

Here are some screenshots with radeontop and System Monitor. It's weird that the graphics card doesn't look like it's doing anything.

I feel very in the dark here. I'm pretty sure it's something between the graphics card and the OS, not the hardware itself causing this. Even when the game is chugging along in a different tab, everything else on the system runs smoothly. But I can't know for certain. I'll give any other information if needed.
