Steam resolution game

17. April 2026 - 17:45

So...using Linux Mint 22.2. Installed a game I used to play and the UI is just not good. Texts are bigger than boxes. Names also too big compared to the Windows or mobile version. Even the title screen we can see texts not fitting properly.

I made some searches and learned that monitors 4K have issues to find the scaling or resolution. I'm not sure if this is still an issue, because the topics i found about it are all 2y old at least.

Anyways...I tried some lines inside the application settings, in Steam. But none of them worked:

GDK_SCALE = 2

-forcedesktopscaling=1.5 %U

STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING=1.5

None of them changed anything. Also, I checked for Gamescope, but it doesn't work for Mint.

So...is there anything i can try to have a better game screen? i checked inside the game but the settings are not good and there's nothing to be done there. Ty for help

[Support] HDR completely broken in Proton after moving Steam Library to a new Btrfs partition (CachyOS / KDE Wayland / Nvidia)

17. April 2026 - 17:23

Hi everyone, I'm pulling my hair out over a really weird HDR issue and could use some help from the gurus here.

HDR was working flawlessly on my main NVMe drive (playing RDR2 and Cyberpunk 2077). However, to manage storage, I created a new Btrfs partition on the same SSD and moved my Steam games there. Since the move, HDR is completely dead in all games. The games launch fine, but the HDR toggle in the settings menu is either gone or forces itself to SDR.

System Specs:

  • OS: CachyOS (KDE Plasma on Wayland)
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
  • GPU: RTX 3070 (Proprietary drivers)
  • Monitor: 1440p 180Hz Mini-LED (HDR10 capable, connected via DisplayPort)

The Issue:

  • Desktop HDR works perfectly fine. The monitor receives the HDR signal from KDE Wayland.
  • Games moved to the new Btrfs partition refuse to recognize the HDR display.
  • If I manually edit UserSettings.json in Cyberpunk to force "HDR10_PQ", the game immediately overwrites it back to "None" upon launch.

Troubleshooting Steps I've Already Taken:

  1. Mounting: At first, I thought it was an auto-mount (/run/media/...) permission issue. So, I permanently mounted the drive in /etc/fstab like this: UUID=... /mnt/Z btrfs defaults, nofail 0 0
  2. Permissions: Took full ownership of the mount point: sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /mnt/Z
  3. Proton/Prefix: Completely deleted the compatdata folders for the games to force a prefix rebuild.
  4. Launch Options: Used DXVK_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command% -ignorepipelinecache.
  5. Proton Version: Switched to Proton Experimental.
  6. Steam Settings: Removed the old library path and correctly added the new /mnt/Z path. Verified integrity of game files.

Despite completely fixing the partition permissions and mount points, Proton seems to lose its "path" to the Wayland HDR signal only on this specific Btrfs partition.

Am I missing a specific mount option for Btrfs that Proton needs to see the display's HDR capabilities? Is this a known Wayland/Nvidia permission bug with secondary drives? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Battle.net display through Faugus-Launcher on Ubuntu

17. April 2026 - 17:20

Hello! I am trying to learn tech. I was in computer science in college, but I had some problems and I had to stop studying. I only did half the first semester of the first year, so I pretty much know the raw basics of some things if that. I cannot resume my studies at college, so I am trying to learn some things on my own. I have a ROG Zephyrus g14 4060 model. It was obviously running Windows, and i tried some VM's, and i really liked Ubuntu, and I wanted to test it's full power on my computer, so i full booted Ubuntu 25.10 at the time, I played some games using the Faugus-Launcher tool, I played WoW Classic and some other games, then I reinstalled Windows because I missed playing League of Legends, but was reminded of how dreadful the game and the community is (no offense to league players, i am sure you're a nice guy). So I said: "Ubuntu does give me some problems and errors I need to fix, but that is part of learning and Linux is way cooler, so let's go back to Ubuntu and play what can be played" and that is alot. Now I have the Ubuntu 26 beta and it's working fine. But there is this small detail that bothers me alot, that battle .net app does launch through Faugus-Laucher the display is like 4k, and I am running a laptop with a 16:10 2880x1800 resolution, so the math doesn't add up somehow and the launcher is miniscule, navigating it nearly impossible, and even the game (WoW TBC) when I get it to launch it launches on a crazzy res too, I downgrad it, but it still does not show my true resolution. And when i click and drag my mouse, it goes to a new point in the screen, it travels, instead of behaving like in Windows where it stays placed untiil you unclick. I don't know if these are solvable at all, any help would be appreciated

Crimson Desert Crashing right after launching (Bazzite)

17. April 2026 - 17:04

Been struggling with this for a few days now and have recently switched over from windows so this is all new to me.

I am having trouble launching Crimson desert as it crashes right after i open it from steam and it only opens up to the initial title box. I've used multiple different protons with different command lines and all of that good stuff but i'm starting to get a feeling that it doesn't have anything to do with them.

I added the steam log, but everything i've tried has ended with the same result.

Couple of steps i've taken but not all;
- Full update (its a fresh OS install)
- Drivers upto date
- Tried different settings through Lutris and Proton Plus

Any help would be appreciated!

Patchset for Minecraft Wayland issues (blurry windowed, wrong monitor, cursor)

17. April 2026 - 16:42

Put together a set of GLFW patches that fix most of the common Wayland pain points for Minecraft. Nothing groundbreaking, most of the fixes already existed as open PRs or issue comments on the GLFW repo, I just collected them in one place and made them work together on LWJGL-CI's fork.

Fixes:

- Blurry rendering in windowed with fractional scaling (glfw#2713)

- Cursor theme/size mismatch (glfw#2679)

- glfwSetCursorPos on compositors without pointer_warp_v1

- Window size callback missing on fullscreen exit

- Key modifier input (Ctrl+A inserting characters)

Also forked WayFix to fix multi-monitor with CWB borderless and click offset after fullscreen transitions with fractional scaling.

Patches: https://github.com/jdkeke142/glfw-wayland-minecraft

WayFix fork: https://github.com/jdkeke142/WayFix/tree/wayland-fixes

Tested on 1.21.11 + KDE Plasma 6.3.6 + NVIDIA. Build instructions in the README. Credits to BoyOrigin, GamesTrap, mahkoh and JakobDev for the original fixes.

cut steams ram usage to 500mb

17. April 2026 - 16:35

I personally don't browse the steam store everyday nor even every month in fact I don't even open the steam ui anymore I have it run in background in system tray and I use my app launcher to open games so wofi but of course nothing's stopping you from still using the ui etc

I know this won't be for everyone but some might appreciate this I personally have a laptop with an apu so I really appreciate this
is my steam ram usage with my steam library open
now these settings will limit your steams functionality but this all can just be toggled by view > large mode

https://preview.redd.it/3jtveu2bfrvg1.png?width=1046&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7d5600fc8c602f5f212dea79f6cb6ab8ba932c3

turn off gpu accelerated rendering in steam>settings>interface along set your start up to library and toggle the start up ad it'll be called "notify me about"
now from the steam interface again go to view>small mode and that's it
as an added bonus I've noticed the lag --quicklogin makes steam start up wayy faster and I've no clue what it does so it's up to your discretion

now I think it's possible to cut the ram over half at this point but just not sure how
in the past steam had a -no-browser launch option which would stop these steamwebhelpers processes from opening if you exclude those processes steams ram usage will easily be under 70 mb

a user under grochu
https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/1637542668226364295/

mentions removing its launch flag steamwebhelpers will stop these processes from opening but it didn't work for me if anyone could figure out how do so that'd be awesome

Upgrade AM4-gaming Setup (Linux Mint)

17. April 2026 - 16:24

Hi guys

I am looking forward for your thoughts and setting up this topic in Gaming Linux Reddit, because I use Linux Mint 22.3 for daily use and gaming. Due to that, it makes sense to ask here.

My gaming setup got a little "older", I built my actual setup in late 2019. Now I want to upgrade a little for gaming power, but due to actual RAM and AM5-CPU prices, I decided to stay on AM4 and upgrade existing parts. The setup should be a useful gaming machine for the next years, until Upgrade to AM5 is no longer as expensive as today and also more useful than today. I think for my usecase a stronger AM4 setup aren't much weaker than an upgrade to AM5 would be.

My usecase is mid-range gaming. Playing on 1080p, maybe 1440p in future. No 4K, no high-end gaming required.

My actual setup:

Mainboard: AsRock X570 Phantom Gaming

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ Radeo RX 5700 XT

RAM: 32 GB DDR4-RAM with 3000Mhz

HDD: 3 classical HDD and one SATA3-SSD for the OS

+ fitting power supply (think it is 650W or 700W)

+ fitting Midi-Tower with air-cooling

The upgrades I already bought:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800XT + custom air cooler (Noctua)

GPU: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 XT (if I decided for AM5, this would also be my choice)

+ fitting power supply, because the old one is very old with 850W (be quiet gold)

+ fitting Big-Tower with better air cooling

Mainboard, RAM and HDDs will remain until now. Maybe I will invest in a M2-SSD but that is not sure now.

My question:

I am really happy with my choice due to price and upgraded power. But I don't have any experience and knowledge about motherboards. When I take a lifecycle of 3-5 years until next upgrade. It is usefull to upgrade the mainboard as well? I am asking because my mainboard is at least 7 years old and I don't know about what advantages a new mainboard would bring for me.

Thanks for your thoughts!

17. April 2026 - 16:19

So I have been playing genshin for 6-7 month on arch linux on my laptop with MX450 GPU but 30-40 days ago I started getting errors on the Europe server. Recently, I upgraded my laptop and wanted to install CachyOS but I need to know whether Genshin Impact (Europe Server) is working or not.

Starfield lag spikes at a steady rhythm. What could be causing this?

17. April 2026 - 16:05

It's very annoying and disruptive to the gameplay. I'm on Fedora Workstation, fully updated, 5800x and 6700xt, 32gb 3600. No other games have this problem.

I quit my corporate job two years ago to make games, and I'm releasing my first game next week! It's a Windows 95 automation game where you make PowerPoint factories (with Linux support)

17. April 2026 - 13:17

I am aware that I am posting a Windows themed game on a Linux sub (don't ban me 🤞)

It's called Factory 95 and it's launching on the 22nd of April!

Planning to move to Linux: how reliable is Wine/Proton for unsupported games?

17. April 2026 - 12:24

I’m considering switching from Windows to Linux but I have a specific concern and need clear input.

My main use case includes gaming (not just Steam titles) and development (AI/ML, coding). I’m aware Linux is strong for development, but I’m unsure about the gaming side outside officially supported platforms.

Key questions:

How reliable is running non-official / cracked Windows games on Linux using tools like Wine or Proton?

Do most of these games actually work, or is compatibility too inconsistent to rely on?

Is performance significantly worse compared to Windows in such cases?

For someone who still depends on this type of gaming, is switching fully to Linux practical, or is dual boot the only realistic setup?

System context:

RTX 3050 laptop GPU

Large existing data (can’t fully wipe or migrate easily)

Looking for real-world experience, not theoretical answers.
