Is there a distro that is not immutable but still has out of the box support for NVIDIA cards?
Bazzite is completely useless if drivers don't work out of the box they can't just be updated to newer versions without rpm-ostree. On the other hand getting newer NVIDIA graphics cards to work under e.g. Ubuntu is a huge pain in the ass. I am a long time Linux user but I don't understand how anyone can game on it, what distro is a better idea?

Unable to initialize steam api
I'm trying to run Resident Evil 4 Remake from Dodi Repack using Bottles, but when I start the game I get this.
I was able to play several other games without any problems, such as Cyberpunk, Expedition 33, Elden Ring...
Does anyone have a solution?

Switching to Linux
Hey there. I’m thinking about switching to Linux and use it on a daily basis. The question is: what is the most suitable distribution for gaming? Is it possible to run online stuff? I do play gta online occasionally so it would be nice if I could run that, as well as Witcher 3 RDR2 and Baldurs Gate 3. As these are the only games I play rn. I play on a laptop: Asus tuf a 15 Ryzen 7535hs Rtx 2050 16gb ram 512 gb ssd
Thank you for your help❤️
Edited: is there any chance to run g-helper as well, or maybe there’s something similar exists?

Steam not writing to drive, and x11 sends me to login.
Hi, I have installed nobara recently because I heard that it should work great with drivers and such, but I have more difficultys than with bazzite, though that system was also hard to get stable.
I think k want to get taught how to use Linux proberly by someone, since I have learned most of what I know, by myself.
This won't be easy to do over reddit comments, så you're allowed to add me on discord. There I have the tag as the same as my username here. BTW I do use Nvidia and I do know that it is sub optimal, but I'm not willing to invest into a Linux focused machine until I can get it to work as wanted.

Need help testing my DX11 indie game via Steam Play
hey,
i'm working on a dx11 indie game called INJECTION, runs fine on windows (like 120 fps (capped) in menu and in-game),
but trying to test it on linux via steam play... ran it in ubuntu 24.04 vmware and got like 5 fps lol
pretty sure it’s just virtualization being trash, but i can’t install linux natively on my machines right now
soooo...
anyone here with real linux setup mind checking if the game runs ok through proton?
would love to know if it launches + what kinda fps u get, even just in menu

Sims 3 optimization
Hello there folks,
I am having issues with getting Sims 3 to run smoothly I tried to substitute with Sims 4 but that game has a totally different vibe which fails to catch me completely.
I used to run the Sims 3 with the same setup in Windows before and it worked, as well as Sims 3 can. So it was playable which is far from it now, there are freezes that make any mouse movement useless and just send my cam across the whole map or I can't even interact with anything. Most of the possible optimization that also works on windows is already done but it really runs significantly worse.
I run that thing through Lutris, which is in Gaming Mode or however that's called, I would love to get a benchmark tool running on the second screen to maybe pinpoint if something is off but I didn't manage to get that one to run yet. If there is anyone around that faced similar issues or just knows about Lutris optimization in general it would be much appreciated to get some help as I really love this game.
Thanks in advance
Edit:
Hardware specifications:
I7 7700k | 3060ti | 32 GB DDR4 | Sims 3 is on an M.2
Distro/OS:
Fedora Linux 42

NetParty - script for playing LAN games over the Internet on Linux
Hello!
I've written a bash script I named NetParty to easily create virtual Ethernet networks between peers on the Internet.
It's Linux-only for now, though I may attempt to migrate it to Windows later on. It is also meant to not be dependant on any third-party servers (unlike software like Hamachi), but it means at least one of the players, who will be the server, needs to have an external IP and a port forwarded.
What I wanted was a minimum-configuration setup that allows folk to connect and play in a matter of minutes, so it's very simple in terms of configuration. You can see the exact config steps required in the repository's readme.
NetParty uses WireGuard as its underlying VPN, so it's quite lightweight and snappy. I haven't done any benchmarks, but it is likely to perform better than solutions based on ZeroTier or OpenVPN, including Hamachi.
I especially wanted to make sure that LAN discovery will work correctly, because there are many games that don't offer direct connect - as far as I've tested it, it works pretty great, all the games I've tried (listed in the readme) worked without issues; NetParty seems to work better for that purpose than Hamachi and in fact even better than actual physical LANs.
Hopefully someone here likes it. :)

Games like Rust?
Sorry if this isn't the correct sub, I did ask in the steam deck sub but my post removed.
My son owns a steam deck, and plays it mostly docked as he's learning K&M, he wants to play Rust, but the game won't work with EAC, and in all honesty, if it did it likely run really poorly on the SD anyway. Are there any games on steam that will work on Linux, that have PvP, raiding and base building?
Thank you

Entire laptop crashing midgame
Took a two week break traveling and came back, updated my Nobara which I think is rolling release now so it probably took the newest drivers whatever.
Now when I'm playing Sekiro, haven't tried other games yet the screen just freezes and I need to restart. Sometimes I need to hard restart multiple times to have it run without just a black screen..
The last time it happened I was tabbed out looking at my graphics card and saw a few blue dots on the screen.

VRR in steam os desktop mode
Like in title I'm looking for a way to enable VRR (freesync) in desktop mode. I didn't find any setting and the only mention I found was post from 2024 steam forum ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/6689601154219417215/ ). There is also this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Variable_refresh_rate but I'm not sure how would that work in steam os since its immutable and it might revert back at every update.
