Installing Genshin on Linux
Hello. What's the best way to install Genshin on Linux?
I tried doing some research and found several ways to install genshin, all of them with mixed opinions, and there wasn't a single best way to do it.
Most of what I could find was outdated info, that's why I decided to make a new post. Since from what I've seen a lot has changed in the last weeks/months with lots of crashes and workarounds.
I've seen people saying to use An Anime Game Launcher, others saying it isn't supported anymore? Others saying they can ban you for using it. Others saying to use Lutris and others Steam. I also want to be cautious because I've read recent comments talking about ban waves for linux users.
It's my first time installing a game in linux that isn't on steam, so I don't have much knowledge about Proton or things like that, I'm using CachyOS btw.
On a side note, I'd also like to ask how to install and use FPS unlockers and if it's safe to do so? When I used to play on Windows I was using FPS unlockers and mods for skins, but I'm fine without the latter.

What happened for such a big drop last month??
I have been tracking this for a bit and this is by far the biggest swing I have seen in either direction for Linux. Did something happen to cause gamers to leave the platform in droves this month? Did they adjust how they tracked their numbers? I used to love seeing linux gain a small market share every month

Video issues with Alan Wake 2 using Heroic
I'm playing Alan Wake 2 through Heroic and have noticed occasionally picture breaks during video (a white line across the image) as well as video smoothness degrades over time. By that I mean the FPS gets really bad. If I change the resolution it fixes it for a time, but then degrades again and need to switch the resolution again.
I'm running Bazzite with an nVidia RTX 5060 8GB OC and am wondering if it's a Bazzite issue or an nVidia issue. If I switch to an AMD RT 9060 XT 8GB (can't afford the 16GB) would that help? I'd prefer not to have to swap GPU's if I can help it, especially if there's no guarantee it will fix the problem. This is the only game I've had an issue like this with. Thanks.

9070xt RT performance check in...
Hello, I'm a Cachy OS user and I'm building my new PC this weekend thanks to a killer Microcenter bundle. Ill be using the 9850x3d paired with the Sapphire Nitro + 9070xt.
My question is, how is the 9070xt doing with RT performance right now in comparison to windows? I have seen a lot of reports of better overall stability in Linux, and I have also seen they Mesa has made a lot of RT optimizations recently.
So any 9070xt users out there that can report on the current state on Linux RT on this card? Thanks everyone.

About three weeks ago I posted something related to WMMT6 on Linux via Teknoparrot (WineGE/UMU-Proton), and today I'd like to announce that I've managed to get the Teknoparrot kernel working for several games.

Clair Obscur cutscenes freeze
Everything is in the title, I play Clair Obscur a lot, and like since yesterday approximately, whenever I pause a cutscene and relaunch said cutscene, the video freezes, the audio still plays, but nothing resumes the video. I'm on Manjaro with an NVIDIA GPU, and no proton pfx works, I tried experimental, hotfix, GE, everyone of em

My controller doesn't make any input despite being connected.
My controller is a Hori Switch Pro controller, and I'm connecting it by USB. My distro is Nobara 43
Can't change the preset buttons
I just don't know how this program works
After connecting my controller to my PC it is detected and appears in the controller menu plus the input listings, but when I try to configure it or calibrate it I'm unable to do anything. I've installed joycond, but despite pressing the triggers or the +- symbols the green lights keep blinking and the controller doesn't pair. I've also installed and tried to do something with jstest-gtk and AntiMicroX, albeit I didn't know much of what I was doing.
I wondered if maybe the controller was broken, but after trying it with my switch I can confirm it works just fine.

Does a window manager impact gaming performance?
Hi,
this might be a stupid question and I am 95% sure that the answer is "no", but is there a performance impact by switching from kde to hyprland?

How soon after release do new games work?
Sorry, if this has been asked a lot. I've seen specific questions for specific games, but generally how soon after a game is released do we know how it runs on Linux?
I'm interested in Crimson Desert but am wondering if I should get on PS5 depending on delays with Linux

Intalling exe on Steam Deck
I'm trying to install some dlc for train sim on my steam deck. The installer comes as an exe, and I've managed to successfully install 2 other ones using protontricks. All installers have started with an authentication page that requires me to input my details with the dlc provider, so they can verify that it's not been shared, before actually installing the files.
This has not been a problem for the first 2, however the 3rd one doesn't proceed after clicking the 'authenticate' button, it freezes. I've tried running it through the command line, and have seen a couple errors but unsure what's important and what isn't. Two errors mentioned issues with Kerberos and NTLM if that's of any use. Have tried using several versions of proton, to no avail.
Before I could get the first 2 to install, I had to install webview2 into the compatibility layer folders.
Is there a way I can find out why it's not working? i.e if there's a certain version of windows I should be emulating, or certain DLLs required?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm basically a novice at Linux in general.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora performance
Hey, I didn't know where else to post this, so I came here.
I use arch(btw) and I just bought the avatar game and I get absolutely horrible performance compared to the tests I saw on youtube. I get around ~30 fps on high settings with fsr on quality and what's weird that I get a maximum of ~50 even on low settings with fsr set to the lowest possible setting.
Here's my specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- GPU: Radeon RX 7600 it's a sapphire pulse oc card if that helps
- Ram: I have 16 gigs of ddr4 at 3200 MT/s
Any help would be appreciated!
Edit: I forgot to mention. I'm using Proton experimental and have these launch commands set which I got from protondb: RADV_PERFTEST=nosam,nggc RADV_DEBUG=nogpl VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_0 mangohud %COMMAND% Except the mangohud option, I added that myself.

Strange stutter in menus - Metal Gear Solid Delta
I have a problem that I cannot seem to get a grasp on. Usually I can either fix a problem or at-least understand it, but that is not the case this time. Furthermore, I have not seen that anybody else has the same problem (googled and checked protondb).
The problem:
When playing Metal Gear Solid Delta I encounter some of the worst stutters that I have ever seen, when browsing the backpack. Each time I change between two seperate items the stutter occurs. This is regardless of how many times I have browsed/seen that specific item before. During this stutter the GPU spikes to 100% and the CPU can after multiple stutters also approach 100%. If I quickly keep toggling between different items I can almost make the game freeze entirely (the stutter gets prolonged) . See picture of an example.
It is not entirely game breaking, but it do break the immersion somewhat. But most important, it is a bit annoying, especially not knowing what is causing this.
My config/hardware:
Distro: CachyOS
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
RAM: 32GB 6000 mHz
Using latest version of Proton-CachyOS as default.
What I have tried:
- Changed proton versions (Proton-CachyOS, GE, Experimental and different versions of them all).
- Different launch options (like these PROTON_DXVK_GPLASYNC=1 RADV_PERFTEST=gpl,nggc vblank_mode=0 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SIZE=10737418240 __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE=1 ENABLE_LAYER_MESA_ANTI_LAG=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 )
The only thing that seems to alleviate this is by lowering all graphic settings to the absolute lowest. But I can still see some stutter, and that both the GPU and CPU spikes during the transition between the different objects.
My assumption is that this is somehow shader-related. But why are the shaders not compiled and keeps re-compiling every time the same object appears? I could understand if it were entire areas, but these are isolated specifik 3D objects, those should be the most straightforward things to cache I image.
Grateful for any help.
