DXVK Not Working for Games Running Via Proton On Nvidia Hybrid GPU

06. März 2026 - 17:34

I'm running the Steam Flatpak on Fedora 43 (Plasma Wayland) and I can't get Proton games to run on my primary Nvidia 3050TI GPU using DXVK. Games run by setting PROTON_USE_WINED3D or using my integrated Intel graphics, and native ones work fine.

The specific error depends on the game. For example, with Dark Souls III, I get swapchain creation errors, while Cuphead tells me to install DirectX drivers.

I have the latest version of the proprietary Nvidia driver and followed all of the configuration steps on RPMFusion. I've tried switching to X11 (LXQT), reinstalling my Steam library, and switching to the native Fedora package. Any ideas?

Genuinely losing my mind over input latency

06. März 2026 - 17:10

Hey everyone. I'd just like to vent a bit of frustration more than anything I think. So if you don't want to listen to my ramblings, feel free to scroll right past this and I hope you have a beautiful day.

For the past month I've been attempted to switch over from Windows. Since I mostly use my PC for gaming and occasionally for light office type work and statistical analysis with R I figured that it shouldn't be too hard, given the ridiculous rate of advancements on the gaming front especially. So I've done a bit of distro hopping between Bazzite, Fedora and CachyOS. And one thing I found with all of them was that they felt oddly "buffered" and less responsive compared to Windows, even just the cursor on the desktop. It's especially bad in games where (using a controller) turning the camera genuinely feels like dragging it through molasses whereas it responds precisely and snappy on windows.

So I've tried all sorts of things from making sure that tearing is allowed in fullscreen applications to disabling v-sync everywhere, trying out different protons, enabling Wayland via proton, using gamescope instead, trying different methods of enforcing frame caps as well as disabling them, disabling KWin tripple buffering in the env, messing with network and bluetooth configs, changing the dxvk presentation mode, comapring VRR vs fixed refresh rate, trying out every controller I have lying around, trying out different bluetooth cards and dongles, honestly, what haven't I tried?

But each time the result would feel exactly the same, slow, rubbery, delayed. And each time I would lose a bit more of my sanity. I am genuinely out of ideas for things to try but as things currently are on my PC I would rather move back to windows than play games like this. And this is the incredibly frustrating part, I don't want to move back to windows. For everything BUT gaming, I've been having an absolute blast on Linux. I would genuinely like to be able to finally wipe that Windows SSD instead of constantly having to click "ask me in 2 days" whenever Microslop ask me if I don't want to make a Microsoft account and uninstall random bloatware after every other update - but unfortunately I can't.

Context variables:

System: RX 9070 XT, Ryzen 9600X, 32GB RAM, Asus B650 Plus, 2160p 120Hz VRR display; Distros: Bazzite, Fedora, CachyOS (always as up to date as possible)

Games tested (because those were the ones I happened to have installed): CP2077, Silent Hill f, Yakuza 5, Hell is Us, Lies of P, Ghost of Tsushima, Still Wakes the Deep, Metal Gear Solid V, Expedition 33

That's the end of my rant, I just wanted to get that out there because I feel like people on similar systems are having a great time on linux and somehow mine seems to be cursed or something, I don't know.

Anyway, if you're still here, thank you for sitting through all that, I hope you have a wonderful day, cheers~

Is there a port of Minecraft Legacy for Linux?

06. März 2026 - 16:16

The source code for Minecraft Legacy on PS3 has just been leaked, and I know there's already a port for Windows, but I don't know if there's one for Linux yet, lol.

Overwatch CPU problem

06. März 2026 - 16:06

I reinstalled overwatch again today for the first time on my linux pc. I started it up and found that it ran perfectly, but not on the right account.

After i linked my old battle.net account to my steam account, the game just started maxxing out my CPU usage and having lag spikes and freeze frames.

Is anybody else having the same issue or knows how to fix this or what's causing this?

Resident Evil Village will freeze after a few minutes of playing and will not recover.

06. März 2026 - 16:02

I've just gotten out of the castle and I'm in the village trying to play more but after a few minutes of playing, particularly in the section after you input the code and get the M1911, the game will just randomly freeze and I'm forced to close it, even steam itself sometimes might be frozen and still think the game is open, and when you hover over steam it's like you're hovering over the game with the audio still present.

I'm using an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU on CachyOS with the latest driver. A search online did lead me to another Reddit post on this subreddit from 2 years ago but without a clear solution. The freezing was attributed to a bug with nvidia drivers but I doubt it's still present after 2 years. Should I perhaps try changing to another proton version in the compatibility settings on Steam? Has anyone solved this issue?

Is it possible to get true full screen on Linux x11?

06. März 2026 - 15:16

All the games i played on x11 Openbox do the same thing, alt tabbing is instant, whether im playing on fullscreen or fullscreen windowed it behaves practically the same. so far i tested Half Life, CSGO, UT2004, Kovaak, and Roblox (Sober). The only one that behaves different is Ut2004, alt tabbing turns off the monitor if i run the game at a resolution different from the desktop, but all the other games alt tab instantly.
How can i achive true fullscreen? Since it reduces input latency, thanks in advance

Low FPS until monitor turn off and on

06. März 2026 - 15:14

So I noticed a weird thing. Sometimes when playing 3D games I get really low FPS (my GPU is usually well above the requirements) until I turn my monitor off and then on, which then suddenly brings the FPS to what I expect (e.g. ~25FPS -> 144FPS (Monitor Hz) in Horizon: Zero Dawn).

It's really not a big issue, takes 5s to fix, but I was wondering if anyone knows what could cause this.

If you need some HW info, AMD CPU and GPU (5600G (disabled iGPU in BIOS) and RX6700), 16GB RAM, but I doubt it has to do with it... Distro is openSUSE: Tumbleweed, am using GE-Proton (10-32)... Monitor is AOC 24G2U with DP cable...

The Untold Story of Classic Games: Inside ZOOM with CEO Jordan Freeman (article)

06. März 2026 - 13:01

Not mine, just from a site I like to read. Nice interview with the CEO of ZOOM (drm free pc games a bit like GoG do), chatting about how he got started in gaming and how the platform works in a world dominated by Steam. Worth a read if you're interested in one of the smaller platforms. Link:

CachyOS vs Fedora for gaming and work

06. März 2026 - 12:09

I’ve been wanting to switch my gaming PC from Windows to Linux. My main frustrations with Windows are the forced AI and bloat ware. I’m a software engineer who works with Debian servers at work and runs a home server on Ubuntu, so I have some Linux familiarity, just not as a daily desktop driver.

My gaming PC is used 99% for work, Remote Desktop, Teams, and Outlook. I’ve mostly moved my gaming to my handheld, though I do game on the PC occasionally, which is the main thing holding me back from switching.

On top of work, I also host local LLM models and do some hobby coding. After researching, I’m torn between Fedora for its stability and work ease of use, and CachyOS for its performance and community recommendations, also read it’s great for local LLM.

Anyone using their gaming PC as a daily work driver on Linux? What do you use and would you recommend it?
