Star Wars Jedi Survivor on Pop_OS!

30. Mai 2024 - 23:16

Hey guys. I admit im fairly new to Linux. Switched over after getting sick of Window’s BS:

I got Star Wars Jedi Survivor running on my Pop_OS desktop… sorta. Xbox controller was acting funky (as if there was stick drift) until i disconnected it from bluetooth and used a cable. I wanna say it could be the bluetooth adapter but it doesnt do that for Helldivers. Every now and then i’ll get a huge lag spike. it was worse when I had graphics on High, but it slightly got better at medium. I have the game running on Lutris but haven’t added any arguments if that makes sense. I should also add that this game is directly from the EA app via EA Play (included with the PC game pass i got). My PC build is: Ryzen 7 5800x 32 GB RAM 3200mhz RTX 3070 Ti

Any suggestions on what i can do?

update: lol i left a VM running. shut it down and a good bit of stuttering went away

Help with buying a cheap small form factor PC for gaming

30. Mai 2024 - 22:39

I want to build (or even buy pre-built) to use as a console of sorts, with both PC games and retro-gaming emulation.

I'd like to stay to ~$100 and the GPU must be AMD, for Linux driver compatibility reasons

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Which distro works well with Arc 770 and Diablo 4?

30. Mai 2024 - 20:32

So far I have tried Endeavor OS, Garuda and PoP OS, however the game still stutters and never recognizes the graphics card as compatible.

Rust and EAC Question

30. Mai 2024 - 19:24

Hello all, been following this sub for a while, thank you for all the inadvertent help with my issues i've encountered since I've moved over to Linux.

I recently got Rust, and I noticed that EAC prevents me from going onto most servers in the game, as EAC is required. I am not looking for a workaround, purely just looking to be educated on the process here.

I have other Steam games that use EAC/BattlEye that allow me to play because I have the Proton EAC & BattlEye Runtime tools installed on Steam. Why do those games work and Rust does not? and what needs to happen on the backend (Dev team, EAC, Steam, Proton) in order to make it work?

Appreciate any responses, happy to answer questions if I missed something.

Optimus on nouveau/NVK?

30. Mai 2024 - 18:39

After a huge success and improvement of nvk and how it almost makes it worth trying... there is one question left:

How can we manage Optimus on these open-source drivers in general?

Valheim linux server + BepInEx denikson + Valheim plus mod

30. Mai 2024 - 18:17

Hi,

so after successfully made working valheim server on my Rpi5 (thanks to Darkn3ssd3fined, see this topic), I'm encountering new problem ; I'll starting this topic assuming that your valheim server works in vanilla.

So, to be quick, I want to use Valheim Plus to custom my friend and I experience. In order to do it, you have to install BepInEx (to make your valheim server and client "mod ready"), then install Valheim Plus.

I've used BepInEx create by denikson (it's a BepInEx pre-configured for Valheim) on both server and client.

Then I've installed valheim plus but the temporary fix for Ashland, create by Grantapher, on both server and client.

But just at the step of BepInEx my server doesn't launch anymore, here is the terminal response :

pi@raspberrypi:/home/raid/valheim_server $ ./start_server_bepinex.sh Starting server PRESS CTRL-C to exit ERROR: ld.so: object 'libdoorstop_x64.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored. (You'll notice that I've put "blabla" on my server login...).

I've search for hours and hours now, and can figure what's wrong with this... I'm stuck.

Disk Write Error: Steam Secondary SSD Game Downloads/Install

30. Mai 2024 - 18:10

First of all after many attempts I tried following this guide: https://youtu.be/BGBgtqhp0s8?si=_GUOrMl82wXWsYe7

as well as a few random posts I found online.

I've formatted a secondary SSD which is 2tb into Ext4. After doing so I mounted it in /media/username/

I went into the terminal found my way into the mount location and took ownership using "sudo chown username:username SSD_Linux"

I checked to make sure it worked by using "ls -ld Linux_SSD" and it shows I do

"drwx ----- 5 username username 4096 May 30 00:02"

But when I try to download and install a game with steam after adding that SSD as a storage device steam creates the steam library folder but right after the download starts it stops, shows the play button for the game a split second later, and then says disk write error.

I'm not sure what I'm missing. Maybe it's because I'm using flatpak steam?

Linux Mint Edge btw.

Are custom kernels actually worth using? (Linux-TKG)

Is TKG kernel actually worth using for latency and performance? Does it require extra steps to maintain?

Looking for the name of a game

30. Mai 2024 - 16:23

I used to have Ubuntu on my old desktop and laptops around 2003 to maybe 2013, and I remember trying to play stuff on it. One thing that was good, was playing board games on a browser, but I also remember playing a game which I try to find out more about now. My memory is fairly vague, I remember it was either black and white or monochrome and you had a top-down/bird's-eye view on your avatar. I remember that you were able to collect some sort of sparkling energy which allowed you to power up your weapon. I don't remember the exact nature of the weapon, but I remember that the game was a bit rogue like, quite simple, quite addictive... (No, it wasn't Osmos.) Pic for attention, but also reminiscent of the map that also was part of the game (to my best memory)

I've just this Linus video where Linus basically doesn't care about Linux gaming.

30. Mai 2024 - 16:00

The title of the video: "Ten years ago, Linus Torvalds predicted that Valve would save the Linux desktop. Do you think it's time to draw some conclusions now?

The reel is based on the video "QA with Linus Torvalds" from DebConf 14".

I gotta be honest. I got kind of disappointed. :/

Have issues in some games

30. Mai 2024 - 15:34

So, on my laptop(lenovo ideapad gaming 3 16arh7) with rtx 3050 and ryzen 5 6600h, two games from library have strange issues with performance. Total War Warhammer 2 and Song of Conquest(which work great on my steam deck), freezing every second, and have strange input lag. I installed properly my nvidia drivers(check with nvidia-smi), and other games works properly

Configuration:
OS: Fedora 40
GPU: Nvidia 3050
CPU: Ryzen 5 6600H
RAM: 16 GB

If you need more information, text me
