Proton Games Cause Video Playback to Not Work

16. Februar 2026 - 15:21

I'm quite new to Linux and have a weird issue that I can't seem to find much information about online. When I have a game running—for example, WoW through Faugus Launcher or even some Steam games like Watch Dogs 2 using Proton—and I alt-tab to watch a YouTube video, the video will occasionally not load at all, even after restarting my browser. If I quit the game and reopen my browser, it works fine.

I assume this is because the Proton layer is using my audio device and preventing other applications from properly accessing it. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix?

Edit: Some probably useful information. I'm using Cachy OS and have an external audio interface, the Volt 1

I'm getting 70-80% less FPS with huge frame drops on Linux [Geometry Dash]

16. Februar 2026 - 14:37

Hi Linux Gaming Community,
I recently made the switch to Linux (Ubuntu LTS latest version as of Feb 16th 2026), and I download steam off the app center as I was having some issues installing it via the website due to some errors.

When I went to launch the game it ran normally, a little lag during loading which I thought was normal but then they didn't stop, I tried turning on LDM (low detail mode) then ULDM (ultra low detail mode) neither of which worked, Some things that specifically cause lag ALONG side the random frame drops consist of: Opening the editor (instant crash), Downloading levels/song (bad frame drops) and switching quickly from menus (still bad but better frame drops, with fast menu on)

Hardware:
AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650GE
16GB DDR4 3200MT/s [Single Channel]
512GB Gen 3 NVMe SSD
Radeon Vega 7? (I'm not sure about this one)
[aka, Lenovo Thinkcentre M75q Gen 2]

Recent Capcom games disable Raytracing on Linux?

16. Februar 2026 - 14:12

Hi

do y'all know what's up with recent games from Capcom like Monster hunter wilds, Resident evil 4 and the pragmata demo.

all of them grey out Raytracing despite compatible Hardware being in use and I'm pretty sure it worked on these games before.

Fedora 43 KDE & RX7900 GRE is the distro and GPU I'm using.

other Raytracing compatible games such as cyberpunk and Hitman 3 do work fine.

Mouse not working in game

16. Februar 2026 - 13:52

Hi, I just installed Garuda and wanting to make the switch from windows. First thing I done was get steam and CS2 downloaded and I got gamescope for the stretch resolution and that works fine. But when i load into a workshop map my mouse does not move its almost like its stuck to the center of the screen. In the menus its fine ive not tested any other game. Im using wayland but not sure if i should use x11 instead if that would make any difference.

Windowed rocket league

16. Februar 2026 - 13:43

Hello, i am using a dual boot system on different drives. Currently using w11 and Nobara 43. Having this weird situation in Nobara, i want to play Rocket league using Heroic Launcher, whatever i do it opens in windowed 1280x720, and shows that it is fullscreen. My Display is 2560x1440 @ 165hz. Everything else works, using the Proton GE Latest, tried multiple game arguments to force the resolution and also some settings in the .ini that the Gemini suggested but no luck. Also, in the game, it shows the maximum resolution 1280x720. My Gpu is a rx 6600 xt. Any ideas?

Faugus Launcher black screen issue | Fedora 43 KDE

16. Februar 2026 - 13:24

Hey everyone,

I’m running Fedora 43 KDE on Wayland with a hybrid GPU setup (AMD iGPU + NVIDIA GTX 1650). NVIDIA drivers are installed and working.

Here’s the issue:

  • If I launch games (Proton/Windows titles) from Faugus Launcher, the game starts (audio works, UI responds), but the screen is completely white/black.
  • If I first run vulkaninfo | grep NVIDIA, and then launch the same game, it works perfectly.
  • If I launch Steam first and let it run on the system tray, and then launch the game using Faugus, it also works perfectly.

Things I’ve tried (asked ChatGPT, setting Global ENV in Faugus Launcher's settings):

  • DRI_PRIME=1
  • __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1
  • __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia
  • VK_ICD_FILENAMES

Can anyone point out what's wrong or provide the solution, I really want to use Faugus since it has a minimalist UI that I prefer. Thanks!

Linux on MSI Claw 8 AI+

16. Februar 2026 - 13:18

Hi. What's the current status of Linux on MSI Claw 8 AI+. Recently bought one but can't handle the windows. Any distro working good? How much performance is lost? Can we still get a decent gameplay on linux with a MSI Claw 8 AI+? If I can play games in decent 40-50fps I would be happy with it. Thanks.

Did i choose right?

16. Februar 2026 - 12:57

Hello, I've been a long term Windows user. Recently, I dual booted my PC because of performance. I chose Zorin OS my friend has recommended me. Did I make a mistake? I saw some people ranking it really low in tier list, i ain't no expert or power user I guess. All i do on Linux is play games and try it out to get some basic skills.

Did i choose poorly? Should i installed Pop OS!, CachyOS or Ubuntu instead? Or perhaps Bazzite?

HDR on Gnome 48 and Nvidia doesn't work

16. Februar 2026 - 12:57

I'm on Fedora 43 Gnome, and from what I've read I should be able to have HDR working out of the box by now, right?

  • Nvidia driver v580.119.02
  • Mesa v25.3.4-7
  • VK_EXT_swapchain_colorspace: "extension revision 5" ??
  • VK_EXT_hdr_metadata: "extension revision 3" ??
  • Mutter v49.4-1

Now, if I'm running a game, say the Nioh 3 demo, on Steam with these parameters:

ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 DXVK_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%

I don't get HDR output. In fact, toggling the HDR switch in the Gnome display settings already doesn't cause my TV to go into HDR mode. Is that normal? The image just becomes washed out looking.

Without the DXVK_HDR=1 switch, the game doesn't even enable its HDR toggle.

When running vulkaninfo I get the following warning:

WARNING: [Loader Message] Code 0 : Path to given binary /usr/lib64/libGLX_nvidia.so.580.119.02 was found to differ from OS loaded path /usr/lib64/libGLX_nvidia.so.0

What am I missing? Any further debugging information I can provide?

EDIT: I just realized the VK_EXT_hdr_metadata extension was listed under llvmpipe. So the driver is the problem? Which one do you need?

Blocky shaders / lighting in TLOU 1, no mention of it in ProtonDB

16. Februar 2026 - 12:43

Hey,

Despite searching reddit and ProtonDB for similar issues, I didn't find a mention of it. On The Last of Us Part I, there are those weird white dots / lines appearing.

It doesn't always happen, but frequently does. Often around light sources / reflections. Any one having faced this issue ?

Specs :

  • RTX 3060 Ti - drivers 590-open
  • Intel Core I5 10400f
  • Ubuntu 25.10
  • Wayland

I tried (to no success though) :

  • PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
  • PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1
  • PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1
  • Disabling any kind of ambiant occlusion
  • Tweaking lighting settings

What could this come from ? The Last of Us part II had similar issues, but decreasing ambiant occlusion quality fixed it, not here. Thanks !

How do I add gamemoderun to $HOME/Steam/compatibilitytools.d/Proton-GE Latest/user_settings.py ?

16. Februar 2026 - 11:58

Title

I have tried a bunch of variations and none of them work. Is there truly no way to do this? Because adding gamemoderun %command% to every game's launch option line is kind of a PitA.

The only scrap of info on this I could find was from here: https://feralinteractive.github.io/gamemode/

But ofc it wasn't that simple. It didn't work when I tested with gamemoded -s in terminal and a game running

Best Linux distro for Dell G15 (i7/NVIDIA) + Heavy Gaming

16. Februar 2026 - 10:35

I’m looking to switch to Linux and need advice on which distro would best suit my hardware and specific gaming habits.

My Specs:

Laptop: Dell G15 520

CPU: Intel i7-12700H

GPU: NVIDIA 3050Ti (4GB VRAM)

RAM: 16GB

Storage: 512GB SSD

I play a wide variety of games, from AAA to Indies: AAA: Cyberpunk 2077, Space Marine 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Witcher 3, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Indie/AA: Hollow Knight, Disco Elysium, Nine Sols, Mouthwashing, Selaco.

A big part of my gaming scene is testing cracked or pirated versions of games before I buy them. My laptop has struggled with lag on poorly optimized games like Silent Hill 2 Remake and Jedi: Survivor, so I use these versions to check performance first. I also straight-up prefer pirating/emulating games from certain companies EA, COD, and few other AAA companies.

I need a distro where running these non-Steam repacks/cracked versions via Wine, Lutris, or Bottles is as seamless as possible. Additional Info:

  1. NVIDIA: Need stable drivers for the 3050Ti.

  2. No Anti-Cheat Drama: I don’t play competitive eSports (No CS2, Valorant, or League), so I’m not worried about kernel-level anti-cheat issues.

I've heard Linux is great for emulation, but I'm looking for the best balance of NVIDIA support and ease of use for pirated and non pirated gaming.

What would you recommend? Nobara or Pop!_OS or Bazzite or CachyOS

New version of Zordeer, 1.7.7.1

16. Februar 2026 - 10:04

Hello everyone, I've released a new version of Zordeer, version 1.7.7.1. Zordeer is a game launcher built with PyQt6, supporting Wine, Proton, and UMU.

If anyone wants to test it, I would be very grateful.

It's also available on the Snap Store, but the Snap Store version doesn't yet support UMU.
