Controller support on Heroic Games Launcher
I'm trying to use a PS5 controller on HGL (Latest Flatpak version) with Proton-GE but only the keyboard works. When I use Wine-GE 8.26 the controller works perfectly. I keep reading that Proton does not handle the controller like Wine would but i'm pretty sure it worked for me through Lutris (I can't use Lutris anymore since it updated the runtime components about a month ago so I can't test anymore through that). I have tried to install Proton with ProtonUp-QT and through HGL, I tried to use steam runtime in HGL, I deactivated Steam completely, I enabled UMU as Proton runtime in the advanced tab but none of these worked for me. (I want to depend on Steam the least possible so I haven't tried to install as a non-Steam game. I might do it if all else fails but if I can avoid it I would very much appreciate)
Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I could try?
Using Linux Mint 22
Kernel 6.8.0
Nvidia Driver 550
PS5 Controller

My experience
can't create a bottle for a mod manager
Hi everyone, how y'all doing?
I'm trying to create a bottle to use a mod manager called HedgehogModManager, a mod manager for modern sonic games. problem is, when i try to create my bottle following the exact steps as the official guide for the mod manager on GitHub or any other guides that are basically the same thing, i get this while trying to create it:
Generating bottle configuration…
The Wine config is being updated…
Wine config updated!
Running as Flatpak, sandboxing userdir…
Applying environment: custom…
(!) Recipe not not found or not valid…
i don't know what anything of this really means, so help would be appreciated!
also, here's the guide) i was using if that can be useful.
the version of bottles that I'm using is 51.15, and i used soda-9.0-1 and soda-7.0-9

Intel arc a770 fan control workaround
Hey I know there's very few of us Intel arc gpu gamers XD, but I made an interesting discovery while messing with kvm/qemu and gpu passthrough with hooks. If you are willing to use single gpu passthrough guides for the hook scripts, and pass the gpu to a windows virtual machine the settings you set on gpu through the intel arc control app in the vm will stay when the gpu is passed back to the host it seems the settings only "reset" when power is lost. Now this I've been testing for both fixed fan curve settings and I also was able to set power limits and overclocking settings with measurable results when returned to the host. This is a very nice work around for support since we don't even have temperature monitoring for arc gpus on linux yet XD.
Notes on hardware and support: IOMMU support needed, single gpu passthrough may have IOMMU groups you need separated that may not be possible without the ACS kernel patch which is not secure!
My own setup: arch linux with acs patched kernel 6.11, motherboard z590, I9 10900, arc a770 predadtor bifrost 16gb, qemu with libvirt for gui vm management and hooks. Grub2 boot loader.

Should I give up on CS2?
CS2 runs terribly on my Kubuntu 24.04
I have a Nvidia card with 550 open proprietary drivers
AMD CPU.
I used a variety startup commands
Tried both shader caching on and off.
I updated mesa drivers
Still at best, I can play just one deathmatch and then it either crashes or freezes up so hard that I have to reboot using REISUB

Linux on Legion pro 7i
The recent copilot bullshit was the star that broke the camels back for me and Im thinking of switching to linux full time if possible.
The only problem is due to real life circumstances I moved from my desktop pc to a gaming laptop and thats why Im asking for advice regarding the switch.
Are there any programs that could handle the mux switch, how painful are nvidea drivers because I know a few years ago it was horrible.
Im learning software engineering so I would mainly code on it and game on the side (at least as much as my time and proton allowd lol)
Thank you for your replies!

Performance compared to Windows
Ahoy fellow Linux users. I'm building a pc with Ryzen 5 7600 + RX 6750XT and I'm wondering how Linux performs in comparison to Windows. Should I be expecting less FPS in games through Wine or even in Linux supported games than I would have on Windows?
I'm contemplating if I should dual boot or has Linux grown enough to show about the same FPS as on Windows.
Distro recommendations are welcome as well.

Hogwarts legacy running on integrated GPU
I'm trying to run Hogwarts legacy using proton experimental on arch Linux. It works but is sluggish and lagging. Even though the game says it's using the Nvidia card, nvidia-smi shows that it's not. Other games work fine though. I'm using an eGPU and my system is: Intel core i5-1260P - mesa Nvidia RTX 4060 - nvidia-open-dkms
And yes I've tried prome-run and nvidia's environment variables. But what I noticed is that it shows up on nvidia-smi when launched but disappears once the game starts. Any help would be appreciated.

Did anyone have problems with GXT 540?
I've just installed xboxdrv driver on it, steam and games find it, but for some reason, they don't receive any input. Do anyone know, why may that happen?

Control computer remotely but keep screen locked locally
Is it possible to control a computer desktop remotely with software such as RustDesk or Moonlight but have the computer locally locked and showing the lock screen.
Would like to control my computer in another room but not allow others in the room to see my screen or be able to wiggle the mouse or use the keyboard to mess with me while I am gaming.

Feeling disappointed with the current state of linux gaming
Recently built a new home theater pc, decided to put Fedora with KDE on it. This is intended to be a youtube/twitch/gaming pc, so it doesnt need to do a whole lot, and I dont intend to tinker with it.
That being said as impressive as it is to get a free OS that runs games, I feel like all the solutions are jank.
Problem 1: Wireless Xbox controller doesnt work natively. Yes I know I need drivers, and the community is awesome for making a Github repo (Xone) that worked instantly. Until a kernel/OS update stopped it from connecting. A quick post on their discord and they recomeded a fork instead which fixed the problem, for now?
Problem 2: Steam big picture doesnt open when I press the home button. I would think that with Valve pushing so hard on Linux with the SteamDeck, that it would be a supported feature.
Problem 3: Playing with a gamepad causes the pc to go to sleep since it doesnt detect input. Various workarounds are: disable sleep mode, install some random 3rd party app, etc. This seems to be a known bug for 6-7 years at this point.
Problem 4: Where is everything installed? Between flatpaks, DNF, Steam, it seems that there is no standard for where things are installed. I understand the history and distributed nature of Linux and why it is this way, but I wish a company like Valve would make a standard and have people follow it.
Problem 4.1: I installed Mangohud to see system stats as im playing. Why does it need to be something that is added to every launch option in steam for every game? Why cant it be an app thats running (Even if it has sudo privileges) that somehow detects which app is full screen?
Is this the linux experience for everybody? Are all of these issues the same on a SteamDeck? I'm not expecting things to "just work", but as somebody who is comfortable with Linux, how much hacking and fiddling do you need to do constantly just to have a system to play games on?

Missing .dll for GE-Proton9-16
So, over the past 4 hours, I've been attempting to run Lethal Company through Steam (keep in mind I'm completely new to Linux gaming). I have Debian 12 for my linux model. I'm using proton9-16, as stated. From what chatgpt (forgive me) says, I'm missing the .dll file. If there's any info I'm missing, please let me know.
