minecraft clients alternative
I saw a lot of people saying that they use forge instead of clients (like badlion and lunar) and I was curious about what mods or launchers do people normally use on linux

I left Apex Legends and Delta Force for Linux
Switching to Fedora wasn’t just a tech move. It meant saying goodbye to two of my favorite games: Apex Legends and Delta Force. Both were a big part of how I played. Fast, tactical, intense shooters that defined my gaming time.
But in return, I got a system that’s fast, private, customisable, and honestly great for gaming. So the big question was, what could take their place?
Bloodstrike
This one really surprised me. It’s a fast, aggressive Apex-style shooter with quick movement, unique operators, and tight gunplay. Sure, it’s a mobile game ported to PC and not as polished, but it runs flawlessly with Proton. It’s super easy to jump into and nails that quick, competitive fix.
The Finals
Total chaos in the best way. Destructible environments, high mobility, unpredictable teamfights. It feels like an experimental cousin of Apex (though it’s not a battle royale). It plays well on Linux and keeps me on my toes every time I log in.
Escape from Tarkov (Offline PvE)
Delta Force's Operations mode had me hooked. Tactical PvPvE with objectives and real tension. Sadly, anti-cheat makes it unplayable on Linux. So I turned to Tarkov, offline PvE only, and it still captures that same intensity. Careful looting, tense firefights, and a constant feeling of risk and reward. No human players, but the vibe is absolutely there.
The Division
This one hit different. Coming back to The Division after years away felt like coming home. I’ve got over 3,000 hours in it, and it still holds up. The Dark Zone mode has that extraction shooter energy way before the genre exploded. High tension, unpredictable moments, and now it runs great on Linux via Lutris and the Ubisoft launcher. It’s helped me move on from Delta Force in a big way.
Sulfur
One of the strangest and most refreshing (extraction) shooters I’ve played recently. It’s dark, creative, and breaks all the usual shooter rules. It doesn’t try to follow trends and that’s exactly what makes it so fun. If you want something different, check it out.
Yes, I can still play Apex on Xbox when I really need that fix. Delta Force is coming to console in August too. But I don’t miss them enough to go back to Windows.
Fedora gives me control. No forced updates, no telemetry, no ads, no bloat. Thanks to Proton, Lutris, and the amazing Linux gaming community right here, I haven’t just adapted, I’ve levelled up.
(imo) Linux gaming isn’t about cloning what you had on Windows. It’s about finding new ways to enjoy what you love.

Compositor X11 or Wayland
Please help. I'm new to linux and I tried several os. I got better fps in CachyOS. I like gnome and I tried other DE as well like XFCE and KDE. I don't understand what is compositor. I read about it for gaming and everyone was saying using X11 and disable compositor to enhance fps in gaming. Can I disable my compositor in Gnome when I have WM: Mutter (X11)? Also I tried gaming in Mutter (Wayland), I had higher fps compared to Mutter (X11). Thanks

Hang/kernel panic only while gaming.
Hello. As stated in the title my laptop hangs or gets a kernel panic only when gaming. Went trough all the possibilities and now im just lost. This error is happening on windows the same as on manjaro. Tested and stressed every component i have for hours at a time. Ran memtest for the ram for 12 passes with 0 errors. SSDs are 96% and 91% healthy. Stress tested the GPU and the CPU with FurMark and mPrime separately and at the same time for hours each, resulting 0 errors (not counting 2 or 3 segfaults of mprime). Highest temperature recorded was 96 degrees C on the CPU. Tested even the network card, no errors. But, after 2-3 minutes of DarkSouls for example, either the system hangs or the kernel panics. Please ask for any logs and ill happily provide them.
PC Specs:
-CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS
-GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3050M
-RAM: 24GB
-Storage: 2x M2 500GB SSD (Intel and Samsung)
EDIT: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/hang-kernel-panic-only-when-gaming/179484
i posted this on the manjaro forum, check the tread for a more detailed explanation of what i already did.

Modern AMD replacement for an NVIDIA 2060 Super
So I'm still using my Nvidia 2060 Super which - performance wise - works fine (QHD gaming), but the driver hassle wants me to replace it for an AMD card. But I'm kinda at a loss here - what would be a good AMD card as replacement, middle-tier, not too expensive. IIrc I paid around 400€ for my 2060 back then, and I know cards have gotten more expensive. If I'd buy a card now for 400€, it wouldn't be that better than my old one, so what could I get what would be significantly better than my Nvidia one, but still wasn't too expensive (I guess it would be around 600-700€)?
Thanks!

How to run CS2 on Linux in 4:3 stretched (AMD GPU, VAC fix included)
If you're trying to play Counter-Strike 2 on Linux with a 4:3 stretched resolution (e.g., 1280x1024), you might run into issues like broken resolution or "VAC unable to verify your session" error. Here’s a step-by-step guide that worked for me using gamescope. After completing all steps, the game runs stretched and without any VAC problems.
Steps:
- Launch CS2 normally from Steam.
- Go to Video Settings and change the resolution to your desired 4:3 setting (e.g., 1280x1024).
- Exit the game. (At this point, your resolution might be messed up, and you may not be able to click anything in the game — that's expected.)
- Add the following Launch Options in Steam: gamescope --force-grab-cursor -w 1280 -h 1024 -W 2560 -H 1440 -f -S stretch -- %command%
- Launch CS2 again and try to start a match (Let's say Deathmatch). You’ll likely get the VAC unable to verify session error.
- Close the game and open a terminal.
- Run this command to remove the security capability from gamescope: sudo setcap -r /usr/bin/gamescope
- Reboot your PC.
- Launch CS2 again — it should now work flawlessly with 4:3 stretched and no VAC issues.
Additional info:
- -w/-h = game resolution
- -W/-H = your monitor's native resolution
- -S stretch = stretches the image
Requisites:
- Gamescope (On Fedora/Nobara it should already come preinstalled ,
- Steam
- CS2
Specs for reference:
OS: Linux (Nobara)
GPU: AMD RX 6600
Monitor: 2560x1440 180hz
Desired res: 1280x1024 stretched (4:3)
