Just made the step.

15. Juni 2025 - 00:50

Me as a senior linux/network engineer made the step, after a evening of again wrestling windows update problems i was done, as in raging done.

Yanked in an Ubuntu25 install USB and setup a decent OS.

I mainly play Elden Ring, all Darksouls, Sekiro, Lies of pi and some Guildwars2 and it runs amazingly well.

Hardly notice any difference and i actually think (after some vulcan shader waits) it runs better from steam starts.

Not a fat/ntfs m2 disk to find and it's just a perfect mix between me doing my job and playing games without dual booting, and having the feeling i run the OS and the OS does not run me...

Just wanted to share...

the game performance was bad for me but when i try to launch it with dx11 i saw massive fps boost from 58-62 in the menu to 120 capped in the menu the game name is "HOLE" i know that NVIDIA has problems with VKD3D but i didn't know that it was to that degree

Good Distro and expected performance on Ryzen 5 5600gt

15. Juni 2025 - 00:11

So, recently I finally achieved my dream of owning my own gaming PC. It's a Ryzen 5 5600gt on a Steel Legends b450m motherboard, 16gb DDR4 ram, 512gb SSD and yada yada. I can easily get +150 fps in most of the games I play (Planetside 2, Roblox, Space Hulk etc...) And, a few months ago while I was still with my old laptop I started using Linux. I just loved how light the operating system is, although I did experience a few difficulties as the laptop used a very weak nvidia card (+10 years old).

I'm on Windows 10 pro now, and I was wondering if there was any distro that would work well with the Ryzen 5 5600gt in question, and what performance boost I could expect from something like Nobara, Arch, etc... (basically wanting to get the maximum performance out of my machine).

I'm sorry if this isn't the correct reddit for such question, im not really used to using this site :p

Unstable ping in runescape

14. Juni 2025 - 23:36

I have recently installed Linux mint on a new internal hard drive in my PC and now have dual boot with windows being on the old one. Whenever I try to play old school RuneScape on Linux my ping fluctuates + or - 30ms every second or so and is never stable. I am able to play on windows on the exact same hardware and it's rock solid. I have updated driver's and am fully up to date on everything. Any ideas as to what might be causing this as it is completely unplayable at the moment.

9060XT & CachyOS?

14. Juni 2025 - 22:39

Hi,

I'm BRAND NEW to Linux (literally just put it on today). I installed CachyOS after Mint didn't recognise my 9060XT and someone in another Reddit recommended it.

I've set up cachy and the card works fine for normal desktop use but when I run a game on Steam (I've only tried Subnautica so far) I get black screens when I make inputs.

Mesa driver: 25.1.3 Kernel: 6.15.2-2-cachyos Proton: 9.0-4

I assume the problem's with AMD drivers, but the website only shows Ubuntu-based installs.

Has anyone got gaming working on CachyOS with a 9060XT yet or do I need to just wait for support to get added?

MH Wilds random stutters

14. Juni 2025 - 21:33

Issue

The game has extreme micro-stutters around 1 second long each. Whenever I boot up the game, it will spend the first dozen or so minutes I spend in an area stuttering to the point of making the game very disorienting. It will sometimes magically work without those issues for around a week and then they'll be back, with nothing seeming to have changed with my setup or settings.

Believing it to be a shader caching issue due to its ephemeral nature, I tried deleting the shader cache and letting it rebuild the entire thing. Result: stutters right away. So it seems like that's not the issue, or at least not directly.

But this leads into my question: if it's not the shaders, what could possibly cause stutters that slowly go away as I play more within an area during the same session? Is this a known issue? I wasn't able to find anything that seemed close online. I'm nearly 250h in and it's starting to get a little bit grating, because much as a habitually starved person being taken to a Chinese buffet at random times, I sometimes get whole weeks where this issue magically disappears, so I know what it's like to live the good life but can't attain it of my own volition.

Thanks for taking the time to even read this post.

gamescope / resolution problem.

14. Juni 2025 - 21:02

I've been gaming on linux mint for about 4 months. Just bought a 2k 180Hz monitor (2560x1440). From my experience, trying to lower the games resolution is pain. It either doesnt work (tried straftat, The Bazaar (with proton)) or changes the desktop resolution (cs2).
Since chatGPT recomended, i tried getting gamescope for this. After all day trying to build from source, (because sudo apt install gamescope doesnt work (even through "gamescope" command returns something like try apt install gamescope)), i reinstalled whole mint, got flatpak steam version instead (coz it was supposed to work with flatpak version of gamescope).
finally, the game launches, (with launch options: gamescope -h 1080 -H 1440 -S integer -- %command%) but the rendered resolution stays the same. I have no idea if gamescope isnt working at all..?
The other thing i dont like about gamescope is that you supposedly cannot use steam overlay with it.

my question is: how do you handle resolution when gaming on linux? do you use multiple displays?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

PS. soz for my english, im not a native speaker. let me know if i didnt include any relevant specs.

specs: mint 22.1, AMD 7 5800X, NVIDIA 3080, nvidia-driver-570-open

!!! EDIT: game with gamescope in launch option launches only when steam is opened with "flatpak run com.valvesoftware.Steam" and crashes before launch when steam is opened via start menu.

I need help download the sims 4

14. Juni 2025 - 20:24

I’ve been trying for weeks to download the sims 4 on my chrome book for Linux. I’ve downloaded steam and it downloaded the game but every time I would try to open it I would get an error and it would never work. I’ve downloaded flatpak, flathub, lutris, wine, literally everything and nothing is working. I also tried using bottles to download the EA app to see if I could download the sims 4 through there but it would let me download the EA app. I was wondering if anyone could please help me and tell me a way I can download the sims 4 pleaseeee and a way so when I play I can download mods with it to later on if it works. Also I deleted everything so I could restart so I don’t have anything downloaded anymore just normal Linux.😭😭

Need help figuring out graphics issues in W40K Darktide.

14. Juni 2025 - 19:37

Hello, I have this weird issue that pops up from time to time causing me to get unimmersed from gaming. I suspect it may be related to something that is going around in certain scenes and maps, game being a dx12 game or just driver whackery. I have tried multiple different proton versions, and this issue has been around ever since I did the change from Win 10 to Arch. That was a year ago, and the nvidia drivers around that time I think were version 560. I have had texture issues also in Total War Warhammer 3, which included map textures in battles being way under the geometry (All units just float in the air basically).

Computer specs taken from my protondb account:

OS: Arch Linux
KERNEL: 6.15.2-arch1-1
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
GPU DRIVER: NVIDIA 575.57.08
RAM: 24 GB

Has anyone stumbled to similiar issues? How did you troubleshoot your issues? What are some things to keep in mind? How did you fix?

I'd like to get to bottom of this, maybe fix it or get something that i could pass on to someone and get help elsewhere, and don't mind getting bit technical. I've never done debugging, but willing to learn.

RX 7700 XT wrong throttling issue - is there any hope?

14. Juni 2025 - 19:03

Hello!

I am on EndeavourOS kernel 6.15.2-arch1-1

This seems to be a known issue that the AMD driver interprets temperature data wrong and throttles the clocks. This results in gaming performance of ~60-70% in comparison to Windows... which is the only thing keeping me using Windows daily.

There are some people having the same issues and working on it

I am not entirely new to Linux, but patching system files is black magic to me. Have you guys managed to get this fixed somehow on your machines? Is there any hope for us RX 7000 series users?

Issue with Heroic for Battlefront II 2017

14. Juni 2025 - 18:56

I'm new to Linux Mint and downloaded Heroic Games Launcher to play Battlefront II 2017 that I got from Epic Games Store and EA App. It was working initially but now when I try to play the game, it doesn't start. This is the log I get from Heroic when it tries to launch. I have used Heroic to launch other games I got from Epic and it works fine. Advice.

Just got my first bluescreen in linux.

14. Juni 2025 - 17:49

I was trying to get 4 sticks of ram working when this happened. Seems like it's ssd related, but it works fine with 2 sticks of ram. Anyway I'm sharing this for the gags only. I've been using linux for a long time, but this is the first time it happened, I find it funny.

Splitgate2 on linux and anticheat

14. Juni 2025 - 17:29

So splitgate2 is playable on linux. Steam says that it uses a kernellevel anticheatsystem. How does this work work for linux? I have read that in other cases it just does not run on kernellevel for linux.

Just bought GTA V Enhanced. Why the game is playable without setting up any compatibility layer in steam?

14. Juni 2025 - 17:25

I know the game is not native.

With the legacy version I need to manually set a compatibility layer in order to install and play.

Having trouble with libnvidia-gpucomp update installation.

14. Juni 2025 - 16:20

I'm on Nobara 42, using an RTX3050. Recently saw that the system needs an update so I did just that, updated the system. However, the libnvidia-gpucomp package is persistent and doesn't install. Upon checking the log file, I found that certain files are skipped due to "broken dependencies" and there's also a transaction error:

Problem: libnvidia-gpucomp-3:575.57.08-1.fc42.i686 from nobara-appstream has inferior architecture

- cannot install both libnvidia-gpucomp-3:575.57.08-1.fc42.x86_64 from nobara-appstream and libnvidia-gpucomp-3:575.51.02-1.fc42.x86_64 from u/System

- cannot install the best update candidate for package libnvidia-gpucomp-3:575.51.02-1.fc42.i686

- cannot install the best update candidate for package libnvidia-gpucomp-3:575.51.02-1.fc42.x86_64

As a result of this whole updating process, the GPU isn't recognized anymore. I'm not techy so I don't wanna mess around with stuff I don't know about and ruin the entire system. Tried doing some searches on Google but can't figure this out. Requesting assistance.
