Hi all!

I am trying to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake through Steam (Flatpak version) on Fedora 42 using a PS5 controller. The controller is connected via Bluetooth and works just fine in the OS (correctly recognized as dualsense controller, I can use the integrated trackpad too) and in Steam (correctly recognized and testable in the controller section).

When starting the game though it is as if the controller does not exist. I tried both with steam input enabled and disabled, seems to make no difference.

In the game I see that the controller options section refers to "xinput". Is this because the game does not support Wayland? Could anyone kindly guide me around the troubleshooting? I'm very proficient on Linux, just never used it for Steam gaming before.

i switched to linux mint from nobara when playing cod ww2 it is fine but after 5 minuts or so it gets from 100-75 to 50-40 this problem didn't exist in nobara or even fedora

When I launch the game, the audio sounds fine. But as soon as I click ‘Connect’ and it successfully connects, the audio quality suddenly drops. I also noticed that a microphone icon appears in the system tray at the same time, so I’m wondering if it’s switching audio modes or devices because of that. I’m playing on steam using the steams latest proton version. I checked protondb and surprisingly I think it’s just me having this issue

Hello, I had some problems running Medieval 2 mods with EOP (Engine Overhaul Project), couldn't find any useful noob friendly guide so I decided to make one myself. Maybe it will be useful to someone.

1. Start by installing STL (SteamTinkerLaunch). You can easily find guides how to do it on your distribution, since I use Arch I did this by running "yay -S steamtinkerlaunch" command in console. After it's installed you have to restart Steam.
2. Right click Medieval 2, choose properties and in general tab set launch option like this: --features.mod=mods/EBII. Replace EBII with folder name of mod that you want to play, this one is for Europa Barbarorum II.
3. In compatibility tab choose Steam Tinker Launch.
4. Run the game by Steam, then you will have to quickly click main menu on STL window or the game will run. Now click game menu button on the bottom, set "Use custom command" and "Only custom command". In Custom command choose M2TWEOP GUI.exe in the mod folder. Click save and play.

That's all, after setting things up next time you can click skip in STL window and play the game. If you want to play other mod you will have to change launch option in Steam and set different EOP.exe, just repeat steps 2 and 4.

I'm trying to run Hitman 3 on Linux via Proton, but the game gets stuck at the launcher. The launcher opens normally, and when I click "Play", Steam starts consuming more RAM as if it’s launching the game — but nothing happens. The game never starts, and I remain stuck at the launcher.

What I’ve tried so far:

• Multiple Proton versions (official only)
• Various launch options from ProtonDB, including:
  • PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% -dx11
  • DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=11 %command% -dx11

My setup:

• Distro: Kubuntu 25.04
• GPU: GTX 1660 Super
• Drivers: latest proprietary NVIDIA

Is anyone else facing this? Any idea how to fix it or dig deeper into what’s going wrong?

I installed Pokémon TCG Live via Lutris, but it is not working. When I log in, I receive a message and cannot proceed, even though my login credentials are correct. I used the default Lutris settings (the ones installed when opening the software). Does anyone know how to fix this or if there is an alternative way to install it?

Just discovered this. I had just installed gamemode with sudo dnf install gamemode and was just setting gamemoderun %command% launch options in Steam thinking it was doing something.

Fixed my configuration for gamemode, and it was a night and day difference for some games.

sudo gpasswd -a <your user> gamemode

You can verify it worked with:

groups

Should print something like <your user> wheel ollama docker gamemode. If gamemode doesn't show up, try to logging out or restarting you computer.

Edit the /etc/gamemode.ini to set the process priority for games. Likes this:

[general] renice=10

Renice can go from 0 to 10. 0 is normal priority and 10 is very high priority.

You can modify that limit to be even higher than 10 in the /etc/security/limits.d/10-gamemode.conf/, but 10 is arealdy very good and you should avoid messing with it for security reasons. Even if you do, don't go over 19.

gamemoded -t to test your config. All tests should pass.

You should not need to sudo. If you can only get the tests to pass with sudo gamemoded -t, then you messed up somewhere.

When a game is running, run gamemode -s to confirm it is active.

If you configured renice, check your system processes to make sure the games are indeed launching at your chosen priority level.

For CS2 to launch at a higher priority, you have to both use gamemoderun and the -high option.

Using just -high makes the game launch with normal priority (at least for me).

Using gamemoderun without -high makes the cs2.sh process high priority, but the game itself normal.

These are my current launch options for CS2: gamemoderun %command% -high -vulkan -sw -w 2560 -h 1440 -freq 144 -nojoy -console

Some 10 years ago I was a 100% Linux user. Then corporate gamedev job came, and yeah, with it all the Windows-only software and habits.

Now I run a small indie studio and we're using almost free/open software only (Godot, Blender, etc), so I guess, time has come to break again from the corp chains. But I don't have the time to mess with DKMS and playing out with fwcutter or what was back in time the trick to make Broadcom WiFi work. And I don't have the minimum idea how the market situation is and what is the AMD vs nVidia state of affairs.

TL;DR: Please suggest an affordable laptop which just works on Linux, with a solid GPU at par with 1080Ti perf on Windows. Doesn't need to be the latest model either.

I know this is a dumb question but does crostini count as linux and can it be used to game?

Hi! I was going to play Forza Horizon 5, but suddenly a pop up with a title "Sign in needed" stopped me. I am familiar with this bug, which you can easily solve on Windows using Credential manager, but on Linux I am not able to fix it easily. Anyone could help?

I'm running Steam Flatpak on Fedora 42. The problem I'm having is that the intro video when you start the game, as well as videos that show up before each opponent in arcade mode don't show up normally. Instead you get colored bars. I also changed Proton from 9.x (the default) to 10.x (beta), but no change. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
