What games have you tried that have significant problems under Linux via Wine/Proton? Either worse performance or straight refuse to run (not talking about anti-cheat)?
I'm curious. Since Wine and Proton have come so far and I almost never run into a case like this, I want to hear what people's experience is.
We know anti-cheats are an issue, that's not what I mean.
The problems I can think of off the top of my head that I've personally experienced are related to dinput hooks and proton versions sometimes refusing to work properly (keybinds not working, something not loading, messed up KB/gamepad layout, etc). Steam tinker launch and launch commands can usually solve almost any issue that pops up.
The only truly serious case I have had is Ghostwire Tokyo - massively degraded performance under Linux when using max RT (didn't even bother without RT since my card already runs it at 4k over 100-110 fps in Kubuntu). Using Optiscaler to inject FSR3 or XESS. Horrible stutter, 2-second freezes sometimes, and a maybe 30 fps true average outside. Dropping DLSS to balanced, inside the framerate can climb as high as 60, but traversal stutter and freezes are still super common and looking in certain directions tanks it back down to 40-something. Also severe stutter at the start of cutscenes. CPU getting absolutely hammered.
On Windows, with the latest adrenaline, zero of these issues, and using DLSS Quality (via Optiscaler to inject XESS), pretty stable over 60 fps at 4k max with max RT. The difference is absolutely gargantuan. I have no clue if this applies to all RT games, haven't tested all of them.
Anything else that you've seen?

Rockstar couldn't be assed to make Grand Theft Auto Online work on Linux, so I've been enjoying Sea of Thieves and haven't looked back!
This post is kind of a two-fer here, so I'll try to keep it short and sweet. I recently sent in a support ticket to Rockstar considering the Enhanced version came out and I got the following response back:
We understand that you are experiencing an issue with GTA Online and BattlEye while using a Linux Operation System. We would like to let you know that since GTA V and GTA Online are not officially supported for Linux you are unfortunately not going to be able to play GTA Online in that System.
So that's that I guess. I had asked if there were alternatives like cloud play providers that would help but nope. They just couldn't be assed because they're prioritizing people who can actually play the game.
Which brings me to a game that I can actually play, Sea of Thieves! No enhanced edition needed here, and it still runs over 100fps on my rig. Yeah I might not have the depth of having multiple illegal businesses going on and managing the stock of them, but I find it more fun going to the islands to find treasure and fight skellingtons anyways.
And the best part? The PvP in Sea of Thieves is significantly better than GTAO. With GTA Online, you really can't strategically fight back. Someone could just have the Oppressor MK II and gun you down until you give up and they turn in your product. Whereas if you're getting scuttled in Sea of Thieves, it's an actual fight and sometimes it's got loot at stake. You (and sometimes crew) are running around managing the sinking ship, wind speed, direction, and firepower towards the enemy ship. Everyone has access to the same weapons and so it's just a matter then of mastering the game tech. It's a lot of fun, especially with friends on a crew.
If you're feeling burned by Grand Theft Auto Online, I highly recommend giving Sea of Thieves a try. I'm pretty sure it's still on sale from the Spring Sale on Steam. Sea of Thieves isn't GTAO, but I'd argue it's better. Fair combat, fun missions, and characters and islands that make the game feel that much more immersive.
Big shoutout to Xbox Game Studio and Rare (yes, that Rare. the one that made DKC and Banjo Kazooie) for making such an awesome pirate game. Crazy how they can make a game with anti-cheat (Easy Anti-Cheat) work on Linux and Rockstar won't.

Suspend issues
Advise for Logitech G502 Hero key mapping software
Just switch from Windows 10 to Pop!_OS. Could someone recommend some software for my mouse that will let me assign keys and has sensitivity control?

PSA: It seems the open nvidia kernel modules don't work with vkd3d, at least on hybrid laptops.
At the very least, they don't seem to work with marvel rivals. Note that I'm talkign about the open modules from nvidia, not nouveau. When using the open modules I get the warning on marvel rivals that directx12 is not supported regardless of what environment variables I set, including force vk vendor. But going back to the fully proprietary ones, it works just fine. Hopefully this is fixable, just wanted to get the word out. Note that I'm using a hybrid laptop, I don't know if it's the same issue with a standalone nvidia card.

Mouse Acceleration / Raw Accel Alternative
This might not be the best place for this but it's the best I could think of.
I'm looking for something that can be used as an alternative for Raw Accel.
I've seen a few things that people have mentioned but they're all really old post and I both want to check if there is something new/better and also last time I tried to install a leetmouse driver it caused my mouse to be unable to move and I had no way to fix it lol

RDR2 says my other apps take crazy amounts of VRAM for some reason
Since I switched my GPU from 4060 to 7900 GRE I've been having minor issues with RDR2, some random freezes and small frame drops, but I blame that on my Mint and I'm already planning to switch OSes. I don't think that's what the thing causing my problems, but sometimes where I'm in specific graphics-heavy areas I'm unable to change some settings because of too high settings or something. I have no idea what it depends on, although I've noticed that the amount "used" by other apps is very close to the total amount of VRAM used, making me think the game calculates it by adding the games video memory usage to it, which maybe would be fine but it also displays total VRAM used by adding RDR2 and other apps usage, pretty much doubling it. Again, it doesn't cause much trouble. just being unable to switch out graphics options sometimes, but this is very weird and would want to know why it happens. Is there something that could be making my RDR2 behave like that? Back with my 4060 there was no problem like that. I can provide more information about my build/OS if you need. Thanks a lot and wish you a happy day

I completely ditched windows 10/11 but not because of an ideology or free software
But because windows 11 is not really usable out of the box anymore with system requirements and ad's and shit installed every where. i love that proton has come so far and i can play basically all the games i want using zorin 17 and nvidia everything just works out of box. protondb is great when deciding what games to purchase. I can understand why some devs don't port to linux distros but they have no excuse to not get it working or playable with proton.

Games freeze after certain actions in games
Hello reddit, I think I might be losing it at this point.
I am using a GPD win max 2 with a AMD 7840U inside. My OS is EndevourOS (Arch btw) and I mainly use KDE plasma as my DE for gaming.
*The scenario is this*
- I boot the game
- The game loads fast like it normally does
- I start to run around in the game, every thing working fine
- I for example enter combat, start a running animation, enter a new level and the game window freezes. Not just the game window but some other windows as well, like handheld daemon that I use for TDP controls, but the music is still coming from the game. The rest of the system is working fine and I can just try to close the window, then it will gray out and say that it is not responding.
*Things i've tried to troubleshoot*
- Ive tried both X11 and Wayland, same issue on both
- Ive tried to force another AMD driver (swapping amdvlk to radv)
- Ive tried both in window and fullscreen for the games
- Ive tried many versions of proton, both official and GE
- Ive tried to play the games on windows just to see if it is a hardware issue but there they work fine
- Ive tried another DE (Hyprland)
- Ive tried different TDP settings, with and without TDP boost, as well as different GPU clocks
The thing is, it doesn't happen to all the games I play, but a lot of them have this issue.
Some games that work fine are:
- Kingdom come deliverance 2
- Persona 5
- Enshrouded
Games that have the issue:
- Grapple dog
- Death stranding
- LoZ TOTK emulated on suyu
I don't know what to do at this point and I really need you guys help to save my gaming

diagonal black screen?
Hello, I am new to linux, new to games, new to pretty much everything, so let me know if there's another sub that would be better suited to this. I just got AC Odyssey from steam working after getting proton and winetricks and ubisoft connect figured out, which took a couple days process on its own.
The game has been working and playing perfectly for a couple days, but today just started this problem. A perfect diagonal across the screen blacks out half of the display. I'm still able to click menu options, but the problem persists no matter what resolution is set and whether I'm full screen or windowed. I've tried restarting both the game and computer several times, but nothing seems to do the trick.
Any advice is welcome, thank you!

AC Shadow's consensus
I am wanting to know how others systems are going with the game. I notices my system is having hardtime maintain a stable 60 FPS in some parts
I have
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
AMD Radeon RX-6600XT 8GB
32 GB RAM
I also have it installed on HDD so I may move it to an SSD just not enough space
Maybe there is a driver i missed for AMD which i should see on AMD's site Wondering if anyone else having performance issues or just me because in certain parts it runs smoothly
