Why even pay for Rockstar games at this point?

12. Mai 2025 - 20:27

First GTA 5 disappears from my launcher despite being bought and paid for via Epic Games and now this b.s. What is the point anymore?

This is a single player game and they're threatening me with a ban.

[Linux Mint] EU4 just stopped working

12. Mai 2025 - 20:12

I have recently installed EU4 on Linux Mint via Steam, after playing this weekend for a few hours, i tried to open again today but the game keeps crashing.

I am not using Proton version or any kind of compatibility tool, since its supported natively (as far as I know).

I tried to run via terminal, trying to bypass the launcher but it still failed and it gave me the below message

[S_API] SteamAPI_Init(): Loaded '/home/axe/.steam/debian-installation/linux64/steamclient.so' OK. [S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; no appID found. Either launch the game from Steam, or put the file steam_appid.txt containing the correct appID in your game folder. [S_API FAIL] Tried to access Steam interface SteamUser021 before SteamAPI_Init succeeded. [S_API FAIL] Tried to access Steam interface SteamUtils010 before SteamAPI_Init succeeded. [S_API] SteamAPI_Init(): Loaded '/home/axe/.steam/debian-installation/linux64/steamclient.so' OK. [S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; no appID found. [S_API FAIL] Tried to access Steam interface SteamUtils010 before SteamAPI_Init succeeded. [S_API FAIL] Tried to access Steam interface SteamNetworking006 before SteamAPI_Init succeeded.

Can anyone please help me in order to try and resolve it?

Clair Obscure broken after update?!

12. Mai 2025 - 20:08

Has someone else issues with Clair Obscur after the update couple days ago? It just crashes after the logos at the beginning. I had the same issue yesterday, but after switching to Proton 10 Beta it worked.. Today no luck so far. Has anyone an idea what it could be? How would I start to troubleshoot? I'm new to Linux, so excuse my nooblike knowledge :/

Has anyone figured out how to get GTA online working?

12. Mai 2025 - 19:15

Hey all, with all the new GTA 6 news, my friends and I have been wanting to play GTA Online again. But everytime I load into Online, Battleye kicks me from the lobby. I’ve tried changing the Proton version, I’ve tried using the Proton Battleye compatibility tool on Steam, but it’s just not working. from what I’ve gathered from other threads, there’s nothing we can really do. I’m just curious if anyone’s figured it out and if so, how?

(Ubuntu 24.04 LTS) Can't set the refresh rate to higher than 120 Hz

12. Mai 2025 - 17:14

I had just freshly installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS onto my laptop with an NVIDIA 3060 graphics card and an Intel i5-12450H processor and I wanted to change the refresh rate on my monitor, it supports up 180 Hz and it works fine with Windows 10. Whenever I try to set the refresh rate higher than 120 Hz, the monitor turns completely black. I don't have a lot of knowledge about Linux and I don't know which information could help but here's the output of `inxi -SMCGx`:

Did DLSS Frame Generation Stopped Working in Latest Proton Experimental

12. Mai 2025 - 16:55

I’ve been running most games using Proton Experimental. Seems like frame generation stopped working out of the blue with the latest update to it.

There were some games before such as Spider Man 2 where Frame generation and Ray reconstruction would never be shown but most games like AC Shadows and Cyberpunk all worked with frame generation and Cyberpunk also ray reconstruction. Now the option stopped appearing for these games too.

Anyone else seeing this? I’m trying to figure out which component of proton got updated and caused this but can’t pinpoint it since I’m not a software dev unfortunately but do want to help the devs sort this out. Frame Gen is such an important feature especially on Linux where we already get a 30% drop at baseline in performance.

What distro is "objectively" the best for gaming? This means that it follows e.g. newest AMD GPU/CPU drivers and has decent documentation/support.

12. Mai 2025 - 16:46

Since there is a lot of talk about what to recommend to newbies for gaming purposes, what should tech savvy people go for?

I use Linux CLI distros decent amount at work, but most of that is just file managing and hosting, nothing too complicated.

Mint and alike distros are amazing at what they do, but you kinda drop the latest drivers and tech to be able to use a Linux as a home/normal PC. Which is great, but the cons are obvious in terms of what is missing.

So I guess the better question is, what is the best distro in terms of normal and gaming use, excluding difficulty of operating it?

New Steam install, not showing saved game

12. Mai 2025 - 16:26

Okay first I am brand new to Linux literally just installed (Mint Cinnamon) yesterday, so I'm figuring this all out as I go.

I installed Steam, and then successfully installed Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 after a few hours of struggling (it kept having corrupt file issues, but I was able to resolve it). Now I've gone to start the game for the first time and it said it can't sync to the cloud, I selected play anyway. Loaded the game and my saved game isn't there. I restarted Steam and now it is synced but there are still no saved games, or saved files. I checked to make sure Cloud saves are enabled both for this game and globally. They are, but still nothing, and it says I have 0 megabytes saved to the cloud.

Is there anything I can do or is this file lost forever?

Steam closes itself after about 2 hours

12. Mai 2025 - 16:00

Weird issue I’ve had lately, steam seems to crash/close itself while, game will freeze suddenly, and once it closes, steam is already closed/crashed. I can’t seem to find anyone else online having this issue, just wanted to see if it was known at all!

Games crashing so far: Kingdom come Deliverance II Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Titanfall 2 Silent hill 2

Gaming PC: Arch or Ubuntu Tinkering?

12. Mai 2025 - 15:56

I want to build a gaming PC. I also love experimenting with Linux, and a question has arisen. What's more stable, Arch or Ubuntu (or any other Ubuntu or Debian-based distro) with kisak-mesa-fresh and the latest kernel, say through Mainline Kernel?

I like the philosophy of Arch and rolling release. But Ubuntu by default aims for stability and convenience. Kisak-mesa-fresh and mainline kernel make it less standard and bring it closer to rolling release in some aspects. Maybe someone is doing something like this.

I know there are Cachy, Bazzite, Garuda, PikaOS, and so on. I've tried them. I'm purely interested in the stability question between these two specific setups.

Installed Counter Strike Source on my Ubuntu powered 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch and it won’t launch. Help!

12. Mai 2025 - 15:14

I installed Linux for the first time a few days ago and went with Ubuntu. Trying to get a new lease of life from my 2012 Macbook Pro.

Installed a few games like Half Life and System Shock 2 and they seem to work fine, but Counter Strike Source just isn’t launching. I’ve tried forcing compatibility with Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 Sniper and Proton Hotfix but neither seem to be working.

What do I do?
