I am planning to get a HP Spectre x360 15 (ch004na). This is the 2018 model with the "Kaby Lake-G" chip (Intel CPU + AMD Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics). I found it for really cheap, while the performance is not that good I really love the 4k touchscreen display and the 360 rotation. I am planning to use Linux because the Windows drivers for this GPU are effectively abandoned as far as I know. I think the open-source Linux drivers (Mesa/RADV) are still active and receiving Vulkan updates.

My Main Question: Does the benefit of the newer Linux drivers outweigh the overhead of running games through Proton?

Has anyone tested this specific hardware recently? Does the fresher driver stack actually result in better/smoother performance, or does the translation layer eat up the gains?

I'm also curious about the rest of the 2-in-1 hardware support on modern distros

The Pen: Does the active stylus work out of the box? Is mapping the buttons difficult (e.g. pressure sensitivity)?

Touchscreen: Will it work?

Audio: Does the quad-speaker setup work properly? I've heard reports of only the tweeters firing and the woofers staying silent.

I'm new to Linux, I'm not sure on the Distro yet, I want to choose the most compatible one. I would love to get one with a tiling window manger if I don't have to sacrifice anything.

Hello, I recently acquired Hogwarts legacy from Epic and I installed Heroic Games Launcher to play it. Everything seemed to work fine until I entered the game and I got max 10 fps. I have as my machine an Asus tuf f15 fx506HE, with 32gb ram, 3050TI, I5-11400H. Tried to do some troubleshooting, searched on Reddit and other places but unfortunately no luck. In the screenshots I think there is all the info you might need.

Proton GE does have FSR support, and it’s enabled by typing in “WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 %command%” in the command line of the game you’re using it on. But that’s only for FSR 1. Proton GE does also support FSR 4, but that’s only truly available for RX 9000 GPUs, that I don’t have (I’m on RTX 3060). But can’t you be able to use FSR 2 and 3 via Proton GE via similar commands?

Trying to run XMII using wuthering waves as prefix. Already set the path for WuWa but when it launches I see a black screen with the green text for reloading config and then it crashes. What could be causing this and how can I fix it (new to linux and looking to eventually phase out of windows all together)

1. Can anyone confirm whether Ubisoft online services within games (not on the Ubisoft Connect launcher) work on Mint?

1. Has anyone successfully run Ghost Recon: Breakpoint on Mint? A few months ago, I temporarily installed Mint and tried it on a Asus TUF F15 laptop with Core i5 10300H (10th gen) and GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 - after it boots to the AMD and Radeon logo it justs closes.

2.1. Ghost Recon Wildlands opened successfully, but it defaults to the UHD 630 iGPU of the Core i5 and even though I select NVIDIA Performance Mode in the Nvidia X Server settings, it still boots with the iGPU.

Regardless, it won't stop me from settling with Linux especially Mint. I've watched reviews of Bazzite, it looks good but I want to have the convenience of simply doing a driver update when changing hardware instead of a reinstall.

Just like the title says, i can't see an option in sources to create an application audio capture device. I found a thread on this subreddit from a year back where this issue was resolved, but after i followed all the steps i still don't see it.

Hello! I have a question. I switched from Windows to Linux, I went with Zorin OS 18. I play mostly cs2, with locked 280fps vsync on. My computer is capable of this frames, has an rx 6800 16gb, r7 5800x3d and 32gb ram. On windows I rarely had drops from 280's, but on this linux distro I get below 280 a lot, like 275 and the game doesn t feel smooth, when that happens I see on graps a red line ( I will attach a photo), can I do something about this to fix it?

Got howards legacy for free from epic over the w/e and installed it through heroic games.

On hitting play, was surprised to be hit with a great big EULA, and a pretty crazy privacy policy. TLSS it seems to indicate they collect data on browser, browser settings, locally stored media, keystrokes, apps, watched media, browser activity, etc.

Gave me the ick, so ended going 'alt f4' as there was no option to decline, only to accept, and uninstalling. Likely overkill, but considering reinstallin the os to remove all traces of it.

Got me curious how stuff like that and kernal level anticheat works on linux, through apps like heroic, steam and lutris. Are they stuck in the user or flatpak enviroments? Would the game install cookies or beacons for the browser content? Is uninstalling the game gona remove everything, including anti cheat/tamper? Is denuvo the party running the 'spyware' part of the code, or just the anti tamper section? Does running 'offline' in heroic stop data transmission, or is this likely running seperatly?

Curious from a privacy and technical standpoint. Anyone have answers or refrences or learning resources they can point me too?

newish to linux, 3ish months on mint. *I know a lot of my datas probably already out there, but privacy is important to me and i try to take control where i can, in spite of the inconviniences it sometimes brings. Ingrained in my upbringing.

I'm taking my older PC after my new build and plan to turn it into a console-style setup. It will be hooked up to a tv.

Has anyone had any success doing this? I've never hooked an computer up to a tv.

It would probably be even better if the software experience was more like a console as well. (Bazzite, steamOS, jovian)

I personally use CachyOS on my new gaming setup.

Does anyone have any recommendations or concerns with doing a setup like this? It will mainly be for my fiancee's son. (Getting rid of YouTube and parental controls will be important).

Since idk what this is I couldn't search for a solution, this has only happened in 2 games i've played so far wukong and where winds meet, if you know what the problem here is please tell me so at least i can troubleshoot it.

So i have a 6 year old low end laptop ( 4 gb ram, intel 620 integrated gpu, i3 7th gen cpu) , with linux mint. I wanted to play some games (low end obviously). That's when i found this.

And it has been a game changer !! Installing and playing windows games is so easy using bottles. I have installed gta sa, far cry 3, nfs hot pursuit, and cod-mw3 so far. There was only a little bit problem with nfs though, where its repack installer showed some memory allocation error related to nmap ( since i have 4 gigs ram only). so i had to install that in other pc and transferred the folder to mine and then it easily ran using bottles.

There has been no problems with any of the games and they have been running smoothly at high quality.

I love my old laptop and linux mint. It wouldn't have survived even 2 years on windows, let alone doing these out of the box tasks.

I can play Dayz on Fedora 43 just fine but the launcher is very difficult to use as the UI is tiny. Trying to search for servers is almost impossible.

I know there are a few third party linux launchers for Dayz but I don't want to trust some random script on the internet. I'd rather fix the built in launcher.

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Now I’ve tried the usual avenues of solving this issue, but at this point I’ve tried so many things and there doesn’t seem to be any clear answers online that I can fine.

Long story short; I picked up all the Assassins creed games for ludicrously cheap in the steam sale, and already blasted through AC1 and 2, but now I’m on brotherhood.

It worked fine for the first hour or so of gameplay, but then I turned my computer off, and now it’s not launching.

I’ve deleted the compatdata directory for the game, regenerated it, uninstalled and reinstalled, used proton tricks to try to manually install the Ubisoft connect client…

And I get tantalising windows where the launcher actually launches - but then the game isn’t reading my controller input.

From what I can gather it’s that the Ubisoft connect client claims it can’t connect to Uplay servers when I look into its logs. But my internet is solid. I also tried using my tethered cellphone and using a wired connection - and it briefly worked first time I used it.

Basically it seems like it can’t see the internet or _*something*_

I’m at a loss.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This game was very popular in the last 2 decades in primary schools. Allowed students to practice arithmetic. I tried downloading it to teach my nephew mathematics and it didn't work. anyone who knows similar educational games? Bonus points if it's customisable and open source. I would want similar shooting mechanics in English and science.
