DirectX bug with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly

01. Januar 2026 - 01:01

I really like Anomaly so far but this bug is keeping me from being able to play the game. I'm using the GOG version of Anomaly with no other mods than default and running it through WINE. AFAIK, at some point when a certain object is on screen the game crashes. This is the error message:

Wine C++ Runtime Library (Window Title):

Assertion Failed!

Program: C:\GOG Games\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly\bin\AnomalyDX11AVX.exe File: ../wine/dlls/d3d11/inputlayout.c Line: 416

Expression: "iface->lpVtbl==&d3d11_input_layout_vtbl"

The wine debugger doesn't help either. Just says "an unhandled exception occurred." Using other versions of DirectX or turning off support for AVX doesn't help either. I've turned off or lowered every graphical setting I can and nothing. I thought maybe it's a shader and using a shader mod (ScreenSpaceShaders) might help but it only just made things worse.

For anyone who has the game or wants to get it (it's free), I'm crashing around Rostok, in the arena, and coming out of the tunnel to the red forest from Limansk.

Should I switch?

01. Januar 2026 - 00:41

I really want to switch to Linux, but my problem is so many apps are native to Windows and not Linux. I know Wine/Proton will help fix that but it won’t fix everything. I’m just not sure if switching will be worth it….With Linux Market share increasing, will Game developers and more “Windows-only” apps start going Native on Linux? I ain’t tryna move to Windows 11

Battlefield 1942 multiplayer?

31. Dezember 2025 - 23:15

Are servers still active?

This Lutris script failed to fully install the game with Cachyos. https://lutris.net/games/battlefield-1942/

The installation window change to the language selection, but does not complete. This is the final output.

Anyone who has used Millennium for Steam

31. Dezember 2025 - 23:12

How hard was the install? For windows it was pretty simple, but it seems vastly more annoying for Linux so i wanted some other opinions before I go ahead and try it.

Help with linux modding on steam

31. Dezember 2025 - 22:39

I’m trying to install the italian translation mod on Blue Prince on steam. I tried moving the files I found on https://www.nexusmods.com/blueprince/mods/18 but it doesn’t work and i think it’s because of unity. I don’t know anything about linux (it’s on steamdeck) and I am desperate. I need to make it work! Is there a way?

Is there any chance we will see ARM powered SteamOS handhelds in 2026?

31. Dezember 2025 - 21:52

Would be very nice. Maybe 2026 is too early.

Which improvements to Proton/Linux gaming are you most exited about for 2026?

31. Dezember 2025 - 21:37

Steam Machines, Steam Frames, FEX getting it's own spotlight, finally getting Wayland Wine and NTSync into the official Valve Proton versions.

Anything I've missed that is probably getting released in 2026, or anything else that you are looking forward in the realm of Linux and gaming?

Elden Ring Mods with Convergence Mod on linux

31. Dezember 2025 - 21:35

I might be ridiculed for this but I've long played Elden Ring with easy mode mod (the one that overwrite your regulation.bin). It is shameful but I do love Elden Ring story and exploration, and the combat is really good (despite the -50% dmg taken from the mod lol). So now I want to try the Convergence Mod, keeping the regulation.bin from /Elden Ring/Games.
When I try opening the mod through .bat file the game seems to load very differently and ignores the regulation.bin from the game folder.
Any ideas?

Should I swap my 4080 for an AMD card?

31. Dezember 2025 - 21:27

I know AMD is preferred when using Linux but I'm hoping for some advice looking ahead at upcoming hardware landscape.

I'm just now swapping to Linux (Dual booting on separate drives with windows), and the current consensus seems to be swapping to AMD is preferred.

However looking at the current prices for a 9070xt I'm debating whether it's actually worth buying a card now or if I should wait and see what the next line of cards bring.

My main worry is that everything seems to be rising in price rather harshly and if I wait now I might be stuck with my Nvidia card for the foreseeable future. (I know first world problems.)

Are current Nvidia drivers bad enough in your opinion to be worth swapping now?

Browser video acceleration on Linux still feels weirdly fragile

31. Dezember 2025 - 21:25

I’ve just spent the last 48 hours finalizing a fresh CachyOS install on an older Latitude. Overall, it’s been a very familiar Linux experience — except for one contradiction that always catches me off guard.

Getting the gaming side dialed in was almost suspiciously easy. Between cachyos-gaming-meta, Proton-GE, and a couple of FSR tweaks, I’m pulling frames out of this iGPU that really shouldn’t be there. We’re translating DirectX 12 calls on the fly with near-native performance, and it mostly just works. It still feels a little like magic.

Then I tried to watch a 4K/60fps video in a browser without my laptop sounding like it was preparing for takeoff.

That’s where things suddenly feel much less modern. Mesa versions matter. vainfo needs to look right. Then comes convincing the browser to actually use the VA-API path, which usually means digging through about:config entries or maintaining a flags file that feels more fragile than it should.

What really gets me is how delicate the whole setup feels. You finally see intel_gpu_top lighting up the video engine, everything behaves, and you relax — until the next Chromium update drops and suddenly you’re dealing with flickering viewports, GPU process crashes, or one experimental flag stepping on another.

It’s just interesting that the Linux ecosystem managed to coordinate well enough to make modern Windows gaming genuinely viable, while browser video acceleration still feels like a shared responsibility that no single layer fully owns. It’s one of the few parts of the desktop where things still don’t feel quite “set and forget” yet.

Long shot question.

31. Dezember 2025 - 20:31

I recently started experimenting with Lutris to play older windows games. It works amazing getting them installed and running. But I ran into this issue with Deer Avenger 4. I'm sure I am probably SOL on it, but better to ask first before giving up. This black texture keeps following the character, like some part of it isnt loaded. It did not do this on windows. Any advice on what I should do? Like what runner may help or architecture, I am running it using x64 architecture. x32 seems to crash it. PICTURE ATTACHED.
