I cannot for the life of me get Steam metadata editor to open on Bazzite 43 nvidia edition.

21. Dezember 2025 - 17:06

Basically the title. I can get it to run in the background but the application won't open to actually edit new games I have. I've tried deleting the boxbuddy arch toolbox it's in and rebuilding it following this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bazzite/comments/1is7hg7/how_to_install_steam_steammetadataeditor_a/

I've also tried installing it via different methods like the ubuntu/debian terminal install guide on the github: (https://github.com/tralph3/Steam-Metadata-Editor) but just rewording the command to work on Bazzite. Literally nothing that I have tried works and at this point any help getting it back open would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm still very new to linux so please be patient with me here, I really have zero clue what I'm doing here lol.

Graphical glitch at boot

21. Dezember 2025 - 17:06

Im running a rx9070xt, ryzen 5600x and b550f motherboard, 4k/1080p dual mode ultra gear monitor.

when i restart or turn on my pc it shows the rog strix logo as always then briefly before it boots the OS there is a graphical bug, it shows up for a split second and doesn’t occur during gaming or any other use of the pc until the next boot, should i be worried about this?

CtrlAssist v0.2.0: Controller Assist for gaming on Linux 🎮🤝

21. Dezember 2025 - 16:52

Excited to announce release v0.2.0 for CtrlAssist, adding rumble pass-through support and significant improvements to controller multiplexing! CtrlAssist brings "controller assist" functionality to Linux gaming by allowing multiple physical controllers to operate as a single virtual input device. This enables collaborative play and customizable gamepad setups, making it easier for players of all ages and abilities to enjoy games together.

🎯 What's New Rumble Pass-Through

Force feedback can now be forwarded to paired physical controllers! Configure which controller(s) receive rumble effects—route them to Primary, Assist, both, or neither. Share every haptic encounter from turbulence, engine failure, and hard landings with your co-pilot. Even better: if a controller disconnects mid-game (swapping batteries, USB cords, etc.), CtrlAssist automatically recovers and restores all force feedback effects when it reconnects.

Smoother Input Transitions

All assist modes now feature improved synchronization for more natural gameplay: - Joysticks snap cleanly: When assistance begins or ends, both X and Y axes update together—no more jarring diagonal-to-cardinal transitions - Toggle mode syncs instantly: Switching between Primary and Assist now mirrors the active controller's complete current state, eliminating phantom inputs from buttons or sticks that were held during the switch

Better Device Discovery

Controllers device trees are now discovered more reliably, preventing edge cases where multiple similar devices could cause conflicts. This also improves device hiding and rumble pass-through selection.

🛠️ Under the Hood
  • Refactored input handling for consistency across all three modes
  • Fixed button mapping quirks across physical and virtual device boundaries
  • Improved error handling and logging for edge cases and issue reporting
  • More graceful shutdown on Ctrl+C with robust cleanup
📦 Install and Upgrade

sh cargo install ctrlassist --force

Full changelog available at the GitHub release page.

Note: If you have experience with Arch or modding SteamOS, I could use also some help in fixing/documenting SteamDeck support, as I've not the hardware on hand and most of my Linux development has been on NixOS and Ubuntu thus far:

DS5 support in Heroic, hit and miss?

21. Dezember 2025 - 16:31

Recently switched to Linux, using an immutable distro and everything is flatpaks (Steam and Heroic both).

This does mean that I can't launch non-Steam games from Steam (without, I presume, reducing the sandbox security on one or more Flatpaks).

Some games work fine with the controller. Eg. Satisfactory. Some do not, and only recognise the trackpad as a mouse device. Games that don't work include Salt And Sanctuary, Relicta, etc.

I'm pretty new to the terminology, e.g. libraries, runtimes, etc. So don't ask me what umu is :p

Some fixes I have read from other threads but I'm never sure which is the "best" method, when considering years-old advice, things can change very quickly. The most reliable fix suggested is "add to Steam" but that doesn't look like a starter in a Flatpak-exclusive world. Steam itself doesn't seem to be able to run 'flatpak run' for starters!

Looking for step-by-step suggestions, baring in mind my lack of Linux competence, but I'm more than happy with a terminal or a text editor. In a former life I was a Windows IT tech... (hey, not saying I was a *good* one!)

Playing Anno on Linux Mint

21. Dezember 2025 - 16:12

Hey everyone!

I switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint in summer and it has beed great for everything except gaming!

The only two games i still (want to) play are Anno 1800 and now the new Anno 117 (bought it today). I have been away from home for a few months and last time i booted my pc, i remember Anno 1800 working fine, but having to wait for it to start.

I just finished downloading Anno 117 earliyer today and have been trying everything to get it starting. Anno 1800 is still playable, but i have to wait a lot longer for it to start and even once the Ubisoft Connect thing starts i need to start the game through there which takes forever and i get a black window with "Steam_game_xxxxxx is not responding" until it eventually starts after a while.

However, i cant get Anno 117 to start in any way. Changed Proton, forced different proton versions, entered the same starting options that i use in Anno 1800, but nothing happens. Only once did the Ubisoft launcher start, but waiting did nothing and i couldnt start the game through the launcher, since it is not in my Ubisoft library there.

Can anyone help me? The Demo version of Anno 117 a few months back did work just as well as 1800, but i cant get the full game to start in any way!

Do I need to format also secondary NTSF drives?

21. Dezember 2025 - 16:08

Hi guys I want to make the switch,

I just have some bad feeling about an embroidery software that I use times to times and Illustrator (that no matter how I try, Inkscape has a really bad UI). But maybe for this I can use winboat.
And the lack of equalizer (I use equlizer APO on win).

I think the time has come, but: do I have to format my ntfs nvme drive where I've installed all my games?
Or I have to download them again after format the drive on ext4 or whatever?

Thank you

Installing Pop! OS on a Macbook Pro Mid-2014 version with old NVIDIA GPU.

21. Dezember 2025 - 15:24

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750M. I tried booting from the normal NVIDIA drivers ISO on their page but I get this error on a terminal before I can even get to the live boot session to install.

"it says the nvidia gpu 0000:01:00.0 (PCI ID: 10de:0fe9) installed in this system is not supported by open system processor (GSP). Please see the 'open linux kernel modules' and 'GSP firmware' sections in the driver README, availiable on www.nvidia.com. nvidia 0000:01:00.0: probe failed with driver nvidia failed with error -1"

ChatGPT is not being helpful so I thought I would ask real human beings that are much smarter in troubleshooting. Any help is appreciated even different OS reccommendations.

I have 16GB RAM, and 4 core CPU with 8 locical processors (intel)

Thank you in advance!

Sensor Panel Software for LCD display inside PC

21. Dezember 2025 - 15:16

Hello, Im new to the Linux ecosystem and am in the process of learning Fedora/Nobara. I swapped from Windows and used Aida64 for a sensor panel to monitor my temps, utilization, etc. and enjoyed that data being displayed with cool designs.

Are there any programs that I can use on Linux that would allow me to read that data and display it on a usb LCD?

Microsoft "your device will open a security window" infinite load when launching Sea of Thieves

21. Dezember 2025 - 15:10

New to linux gaming, running Arch. I tried booting sea of thieves from steam but when logging in, after entering my email address, it loads infinitely on this window:

https://preview.redd.it/d5ivojk0ek8g1.png?width=1832&format=png&auto=webp&s=f04ba15dd1aab2cce4d9dd41523b1072ea762384

Online, all the info I could find was "last update broke it but it was resolved on the last proton patch". Not really helpful.

How does this work? Can I even play the game? Thanks!

Immediate Issues

21. Dezember 2025 - 14:42

My SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 are reconnecting every 20 seconds on Ubuntu

21. Dezember 2025 - 14:26

Hi. In February I bought SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5. I mostly used Windows at the time, Linux was my secondary OS. A few months I switched to Linux and I have been having one major issue with these headphones. After some time of use, they start to disconnect and reconnect every 20 seconds. I think it is because USB controller switches dongle HD-Audio to hid-generic. I am adding my journalctl -kf logs here: https://pastebin.com/8Dz1TDUa

Does anyone know how to fix this? It is really annoying to hear crackling audio every 20 seconds.

Proton versions for Fallout New Vegas

21. Dezember 2025 - 14:06

I've been wanting to get back into Fallout New Vegas but no proton versions newer than Proton 4.11-13 seem to work. They all open the launcher but it will crash and close instantly.

Im running on a fresh install of the game using Arch linux.
