Reddit Linux_Gaming
I will be migrating to an AMD GPU. I have a few questions.
Hello, it's time for me to change my RTX 3070 (mainly due to the lack of VRAM).
I decided to buy an RX 9070 XT, which should arrive in a few days.
I have a few questions, as I have always used Nvidia cards and this will be my first AMD one.
Am I correctly oriented and are these the steps:
1. Uninstall Nvidia drivers - sudo apt-get remove --purge '^nvidia-.*'
2. Install mesa (and kisak PPA, as I am using Kubuntu) - sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa && sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt update && sudo apt install libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386
I know it's good to have an up-to-date kernel. I am currently using 6.17.8-2-liquorix-amd64. Is it fine?
My other question is related to Flatpak.
I always play my games through Flatpak - Flatpak Steam, Flatpak Heroic, etc.
I like things to be sandboxed.
With Nvidia now, I need to install the following flatpak packages:
runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.nvidia-580-95-05/x86_64/1.4
runtime/org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.nvidia-580-95-05/x86_64/1.4
Corresponding to the version of the installed Nvidia driver.
Using an AMD GPU, is there anything similar in terms of Flatpak gaming?
Other thing - are there any special env parameters?
With Nvidia, I often use:
DXVK_ENABLE_NVAPI=1
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0
__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1
I almost always add these parameters for every game (I'm not sure how up-to-date they are now). My question is, are there any "must have" parameters for AMD GPUs? For example, if I want to take advantage of FSR4, etc.
If you have any additional tips for someone who will be using the combo Linux + AMD GPU for the first time, I would be happy if you shared them. :)

AMD 9070 xt lock up on SteamOS
I thought I had this resolved by updating the kernel to 6.16 and mesa 25 but the game still freeze up.
Has anyone have found a fix with SteamOS? If I switch to bazziteOS will it fix?

I am thinking about switching from W11 to Zorin Pro
Like the title says, I'm thinking about switching. I like Zorin because of is low learning curve coming from W11. I preferred 10, but MS don't care.... I have a decent system, mostly geared for gaming. 7800X3D 9070xt Taichi 64g ram 4tb sad X670e Taichi. I'm a total noob when it comes to Linux besides playing around on an old RaspberryPi2. I an just wondering what kind of issues I will be running into with using my hardware with Linux. Thank you for any info/ advise. The other build in thinking about it Linux Mint.

The eternal question: best way to manage game library on Linux?
Hello everyone, I recently installed Bazzite on my main mini-PC because I've been in a long way of searching the best setup for a desktop-TV gaming environment. I didn´t want to switch to Linux because of the launcher and games compatibility, and because I had all my library well managed on Playnite, but the Playnite full-screen environment was simply not usable enough for me: whatever I tried, it was laggy, and it was uncomfortable to use on the TV.
Well, now I am very happy with how Bazzite works and I think it is perfect for my gaming necessities. I mean, my PC is in a mid-range tier and I cannot play recent releases and heavy AAA games (and normally I am not that interested). But I REALLY miss how easy was the library management on Windows. Just configure Playnite, search for a game and install. This process is much harder on Linux.
I will tell you what I've tried so far:
- Lutris: in paper, it is what I need - connect my gaming libraries, install a game and then add it to Steam for playing on the big screen. Sounds cool, but EA, itch and Ubi connections seems to be broken (at least, I cannot really connect to them or launch the app in Ubisoft case). Also, have near to 0 search or tagging capabilities.
- Heroic: Works a little better, but as far as I know, cannot connect neither ubisoft, EA or itch services
None of them offers the experience that Playnite or GOG Galaxy does. So, the question is, which is the best alternative or what do you use in a daily basis? My dream solution should have these features:
- see all of my game library and search non installed games (steam, epic, gog, amazon, itch, ea and ubi)
- if possible, downloading and installing
- tagging, filtering and advanced search
I could live without the last two points and just use an alternative to search in my whole library. With all the free games, steam purchases and steam family games, I often forget which games do I really have in my collection. The Steam gaming mode is so good that I don´t mind if I just use a library manager, then install my games manually via Lutris, Heroic, Bottles or whatever works, and then add them to Steam.
There is so many options and information and I am a bit lost. I know I can run Playnite and GOG Galaxy via Bottles, but some people say they ran poorly, and I can imagine that it is not the best way of installing and playing a game on Linux. I have also seen some web-based apps (I use Backloggd regularly), but none of them actually seems to be able to connect with all my libraries such as Playnite (and no way I am importing all of these games manually). In addition, I have not found solution to my Lutris problems and it seems like no one really recommends using Cartridges (just adding more examples).
I am just a noobie linux gaming user, I installed this 3 days ago. Just looking for information and something that could be similar to that Playnite desktop environment. But I am open to other alternatives. So feel free to tell my how do you experience Linux gaming, maybe it suits my needs.
Also worth mentioning: the platforms where I have the most games, in descending order, would be: itch.io, Steam, GOG, Epic, Amazon and then I have like 20 games combining EA, Ubisoft, Humble and Battle.net
Thank you!

If you feel like playing a relaxing mining sim game, you should check this out :)
Hey there :)
I’m Krisz, a solo indie dev, and after 3 years of development, I'm finally releasing TerraForge 1.0 on November 20th.
TerraForge is a relaxing mining simulation game mixed with a bit of shop management. You dig for ores, master crafting items, research new blueprints, improve your shop, sell your items and slowly grow your own little mining town.
It might be a game you can enjoy or relax into after a long day. Hopefully :D If not, that's totally cool. I just tried my best to create a kinda fun relaxing game.
You can check it on Steam if you're interested:

Dying Light changed settings don't persist? Anyone had this issue?
This is one of the biggest issue with proton atm. I'm sure its happened in other games too. I'm playing Dying Light via Heroic (the epic version). A very annoying issue is that some settings don't persist between relaunches. I have to manually switch off Chromatic aberration and film grain every time, and subtitles. I don't even bother with changing controls now.

Broken native ports
Bought some new games recently, some of which to my surprise utilize older native Linux ports. Imagine my shock when they open on the wrong monitor, handle resolutions incorrectly, crash, and come with a laundry list of other bugs. Often times, these native games didn't work properly with past Windows saves, either. It dawned on me one of my biggest concerns with Linux gaming blowing up is broken native ports that deter users away from a smooth experience. You can absolutely just switch to Proton and these issues magically disappear, but there's *tons* of games where this is a problem.
What is to be done? As the Steam Machine finds its way into people's living rooms, they want a low-maintenance machine that just runs games, and it seems like broken/shoddy native ports are an obstacle.

Arch Linux update
I made a post two days ago mentioning how I had a million and one issues with OpenSUSE and CachyOS. A lot of rude comments insulting my intelligence or misinterpreting my statements. My entire post was removed so figured I would give an update in a new post.
Spent 2 hours last night just building Arch Linux instead of using a downstream distro of Arch. Got the performance I was expecting with World of Warcraft running at 250fps at 1440p on High settings.
Some people may have success with OpenSUSE or CachyOS but I didn't and there could be a multitude of factors. Simply building Arch from scratch allowed me to determined what I wanted exactly instead of the distro coming preloaded with a bunch of stuff. Point is, I got it working way faster and more stable in Arch compared to all the other distros.
So... No, I'm not a wintard who doesn't understand Linux and just rage quits.

+4 gamepads
Does anyone have experience with SteamOS or the "gaming" distros where it comes to having +4 gamepads? The experience is not at all smooth with Windows. I don't have room in my life for going from bad to worse.
I have an assortment of Gamepads, old Logitech's, GameSir Teganaria T3, and some other random no names who fake being a PS4, Switch or XBox controllers.

“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change so STOP complaining about Windows but also saying you NEED...
Nothing is going to change if you just keep dealing with it. Either stop supporting something you don't like or stop complaining about it. I don't particularly care if you use Windows or Linux or Mac or Temple OS... Just stop complaining about it when you can start the change you want to see in the world.
Did the collective world just lose its balls? Do people complain for complaints sake? My 10 yr old does this and I correct him too.
I want those games on Linux, I want all games on everything MAC, Linux, Windows. But if i just suck it up and take what's given nothing will change.
I was just annoyed by all the Windows complaining but then sucking it up and taking it in the next sentence.

Stalker 2 and FSR4
Hi sub! I have a very specific question: as of today, is there a way to get FSR4 working in Stalker 2 but not on CachyOS? I'm checking ProtonDB constantly but the only mentions for the FSR4 are from CachyOS users and i'm on vanilla Arch. Have someone get it work already? If yes, could you please share your Proton version and launch arguments? Thanks!
EDIT: the gpu is 9070 XT

Been trying to find a fix for this on steam proton
Using steam Proton to play GTA SA with the downgraded modded 1.0 i've tried versions 7-10 i have the WINEDLLOVERRIDES enabled. The intro videos will not play and default to this. From what I can gather it is codec related, but I have no clue how to do that through steams proton.
