Controller not working on clair obscure

05. Januar 2026 - 18:04

Hello!

I recently switched from windows 10 to Pop_os and everything is working smoothy but for some reason when I try to play Clair Obscure with my ps5 controller It just doesn't work, I even tried using steam input but it didn't help.
In all the other games I have tried it worked flawlessly with or without steam input.

I'm using proton 9 and and nvidia RTX3060.
What could I try to solve the problem? Thanks!

Games run better on Linux than on Windows

05. Januar 2026 - 17:21

I get about 15-30 fps more using Linux. Games that i tested are not natively supported by linux. Indiana Jones and Metaphor:Refantazio as examples.

Indiana Jones on Windows without frame gen i get 40-45 fps. On linux without frame gen i get 56-70 fps.

Metaphor Refantazio on Windows 40-55 fps. On linux 70-100 fps.

I suspect such increase is due to higher CPU and RAM usage on Wndows.

My distro: CachyOS Laptop: Legion 5 Pro with RTX 3070 mobile RAM: 16 GB

Gaming on Steam

05. Januar 2026 - 16:31

Hello everyone. Another Linux gamer needs your help. I recently decided to try using steam natively as the launcher for my games, since I heard that it's pretty good now. Until then I was just launching the exe files via Faugus launcher. I installed the required Proton packages and set everything up as needed (enabling proton, choosing the version and for a good meassure even forcing proton) and tried launching my game, which I know my laptop can play, but nothing happened. It just started, displayed nothing and then shut down. I tried several different Proton versions, but nothing helped. I'll be grateful for any advice on how to resolve this. Oh and also, I'm using Fedora linux. Thanks in advance.

LACT Nvidia OC Clarifications

05. Januar 2026 - 15:09

I have a GTX 4080 and im looking to OC using LACT. I used afterburner extensively for years and had a good stable OC for my 4080 and want to replicate that in linux using LACT but im not sure about the P state settings and the offsets.

First question is, should i only be using P State 0?

Second question, are the offsets the same as afterburner? So, if i had a +150 core and a +750 memory in Afterburner, would i use those same offsets in the GPU P0 and VRAM P0?

Thanks for any help!

Elite dangerous won't even boot, launcher crashes right away.

05. Januar 2026 - 13:51

First time running a linux system, using the latest mint version.

RTX5060, Ryzen 5 7600

A lot of the threads about ED say it runs mostly out of the box just with downgrading proton. I tried a bunch of different valve proton versions and recommended protonGE versions. None of them fix the instant crash. The furthest I've gotten was with proton GE 8-3 which actually processed the vulkan shaders before booting the launcher and crashing like usual. made sure my nvidia drivers were up to date as well. Verified the game files just in case but all was fine there.

Total linux noob here so I'm not sure what I could be doing. I've also seen some threads mentioning something called lutrix? Haven't tried that yet.

do i need to switch other distros from linux mint when i have these specs to my laptop? (nvidia gpu)

05. Januar 2026 - 13:50

im never going back to windows by the way.

my laptop's specs: (which are old, chat gpt'ed it)

  • Laptop: Acer Predator PH315-52

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9750H (6 cores / 12 threads, up to 4.5 GHz)

  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti (with Optimus, Intel UHD 630 iGPU)

  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 (expandable, depends on your config)

  • Storage: 256GB NVMe SSD (system drive, Linux Mint) 1TB HDD (NTFS, secondary storage)

  • Display: 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080), 144Hz, IPS

  • Keyboard: RGB backlit, Predator series

  • OS: Linux Mint 21/22 (Ubuntu-based)

  • Other: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0, Killer LAN

i'm new to linux and don't know much about gaming in handheld and pc in general. context about me is i've heard & seen the games but never actually played it. my gaming experience up until now is more on mobile competitive games. i got this laptop just about prepandemic during college and rarely used it since then. was able to play gta5, forza 4 or 5, witcher 3, and overcooked 2 back when the os is win10. haven't officially tried gaming yet on linux. i came here to ask to know where i am based off of my laptop's specs and situation. i watched youtube relating to this and i've come to learn a little that there's something about nvidia to linux drivers wise. i can't really tell much other than that. also, the content that i watched has rtx something specs being used, 4060 something which i think is far superior to what my 1660ti can do. while the comparison between the mint to other gaming distros is somewhat close than being far fps wise. i still want to know from the community.

with that being said, now i wonder if distros matter to my setup. should i change or not? i dont wanna go in deep with linux mint and later regret that there's better option at my disposal.

now that i have the energy to get back to gaming again, like play older 3A's, maybe cyberpunk too, some modern ones if it can and a lot of indie games. basically wanna play it like how and what games that can be played in a handheld. will mainly play in steam too. ill stick to playing this laptop until i have the budget to get a decent/comfortable gaming experience performance/ux wise like those latest handhelds today.

Final Fantasy Rebirth on CachyOS/Gamescope Issues

05. Januar 2026 - 13:45

Spent most of my evening trying to solve this last night. Square Enix is not known for their programming prowess, and in their effort to get the game to run on the SteamDeck, it forces things like a low resolution font and dropping the colors of materia in game.

I've attempted to pass launch options like "SteamDeck=0" and a bunch of Wine DLL overrides, but the game seems to have the behavior hard-coded, or Im missing the Konami Code for it.

Thanks for any advice.

Battlefront 2 (2017) from the EA app

05. Januar 2026 - 13:21

I've been trying to play battlefront 2, I bought a long time ago from the EA app directly.

What I've done is launching the EA app from lutris and installing the game, but it doesn't run smoothly and the mouse doesn't work properly making it unplayable.

I've tried to launch the app from steam hoping for it to make a difference but the same problems occurred.
