RadeonSI Starts 2026 With NIR Compilation Refactoring For Better Performance, Lower GLSL Compile Times

02. Januar 2026 - 20:38

Not the most exciting thing in the world because it only impacts OpenGL and not Vulkan, but still nice to see.

A question about how the proton works and its capabilities.

02. Januar 2026 - 20:25

Hi everyone! I'm a Linux noob.

After a week of using Ubuntu on an old PC, I decided to switch to Arch right away, waiting until after the New Year holidays. I installed and configured Arch Linux and found that the Kepler drivers for the GTX 650 conflict with the Xorg kernel. While everything works fine in Vulcan and rendering is handled by the GPU, when using OpenGL, even in Minecraft or in native mode for other Linux games, graphics are rendered by my CPU (an Intel Xeon E5-2670 v2). After searching the forums, I found information that newer versions of Xorg conflict with the Nvidia 470.xx. I'm too lazy to rebuild the configured system (although I know that the configured policom, i3, and polybar configs can be copied and you can try downgrading to an older kernel).

My question is that I know there were enthusiasts running Minecraft Java in Proton, and I know that Proton works on the DX ---> Vulkan principle. Will it work like OpenGL ---> Vulkan?

P.S. Considering possible responses like: "Dude, upgrade your hardware:" - I'd gladly upgrade it if I had the opportunity (and the money). And yes, I know it's my problem that I installed Arch on such an outdated piece of crap.

Guild Wars 2 – mouse cursor escaping on KDE Plasma Wayland (Linux) - Overlays

02. Januar 2026 - 20:17

I’m running Guild Wars 2 on Linux (Nobara / Fedora-based) with KDE Plasma Wayland, using Wine/Proton.
I have a multi-monitor setup.

The problem

When rotating the camera in GW2 (holding right mouse button), the mouse cursor escapes the game window to another monitor.

What I tested
  • Steam (non-Steam GW2 install) and Lutris
  • Proton 9.x and Proton-GE
  • With and without gamescope
  • With and without external overlays:
    • BlishHUD
    • Burrito
  • Fullscreen, windowed, borderless
Results
  • Base game only (no overlays, no gamescope):
    • Cursor never leaves the game window
    • Behavior is identical to Windows borderless fullscreen
    • Camera rotation works perfectly
  • With external overlays (BlishHUD / Burrito):
    • Cursor consistently escapes to the second monitor
  • With gamescope:
    • Either does not fix the issue
    • Or causes the cursor to disappear entirely
  • Fullscreen vs windowed makes no difference
Conclusion
  • GW2 itself works correctly on KDE Plasma Wayland
  • The cursor issue only appears when using external overlays or gamescope
  • This points to a Wayland + KDE Plasma + external overlay interaction issue
  • It does not appear to be a GW2 bug
  • X11 reportedly works, but I want to stay on Plasma Wayland
Looking for
  • Any Wayland-native workaround
  • KDE / compositor / input settings that might help
  • Confirmation from others using KDE Plasma Wayland + GW2 + overlays

Dedicated Router Setup for wireless VR

02. Januar 2026 - 20:11

I've done all the setup router side because I was testing it on Windows. How do I configure the OS side of things on Linux to take advantage so I can play there? Distro: Bazzite

assetto corsa content manager not working

02. Januar 2026 - 20:07

I have content manager and assetto installed but when I try to launch a race is crashes and shows "Error: Couldn't run steam". Everything works fine when it comes to normal assetto corsa and content manager fully displays the stats I have from my steam profile. The problem comes from launching any game through content manager.

Why "Don't Starve" is the perfect example of how games should be developed

02. Januar 2026 - 19:36

I believe "Don't Starve" does everything right, I'm not talking about the gameplay (Even though it's awesome too), but the technology.

Firstly, it's DRM-free, meaning it's yours forever, it's not tied to any platform, it doesn't need an account, nothing. You just need the files and it runs. (I'm talking about the GOG version).

Second, it's cross-platform. But truly cross-platform. I've played both on Windows and Linux for hundreds of hours and the two versions are identical.

I've never come across a game this easy to mod. Seriously. You have the engine code, which is compiled to binary for performance. But that's just the game engine part of the game, everything else is in plain .lua files. You can just open any of the files and modify the game, even if you don't know Lua, it's really intuitive. The game is completely transparent and also feels lightweight. It's a really good technical design.

And there's barely any bugs. I don't know who works at Klei but this game never crashed on me, not on Windows nor Linux. It never has frame drops, I barely encountered any bugs in 10 years of playing. It's crazy. It feels like good quality, and it's hard to find good quality in software nowadays.

I've never come across any other game like Don't Starve, but if you have a title that you feel can compete in terms of tech design then please drop the title.

And this is just the technical sides of things, there's a lot to say about the game itself and why it's so fun and addicting but I'll stop here.

8bitdo ultimate controller not working with warframe

02. Januar 2026 - 19:32

I am using bazzite on an xbox ally x and got a couple 8bitdo controllers for the holidays. I can connect the controller in bluetooth or 2.4ghz mode just fine, but when I open warframe, I can launch the game, but the button set never swaps to "Game" after the game launches. It stays in "Launcher" mode. This makes it so I can only pan the camera, and jump, all other inputs do nothing. If I modify the steam input binds for the Launcher mode, I see it reflected in the actual game. Issue is that "Launcher" mode doesn't have binds setup that allow you to actually play the game. Any ideas what's going on here?

How do I fix this?

02. Januar 2026 - 19:27

I tried looking online, but It seems I can't describe this bug well as all results I've found refer to different errors.

I happens to me in Warframe and in Elden Ring Nightreign. In the first its not that bad, just some light effects get stuck in front of the screen. But in Nightreign it makes the game unplayable as that fog/light that should be in the background just appears on top of everything.

I'm using Omarchy (Arch based) in a laptop with a nvidia gpu.

CS2 on Arch Linux + Hyprland: Can't get overlay, mouse fix, AND native resolution to work together

02. Januar 2026 - 19:13

Hey everyone, I've been banging my head against this for a while trying to fix these issues and could use some help.

My Setup:

  • Arch Linux
  • Hyprland 0.53.0 (Wayland compositor)
  • RTX 3080 Laptop GPU + Ryzen 9 6900HX
  • 2560x1440 @ 165Hz display
  • Hyprland scale set to 1.25
  • Steam (native, not Flatpak)
  • supergfxctl in Hybrid mode

I can't seem to get CS2 working with all of these at the same time:

  • Steam overlay (Shift+Tab)
  • No mouse teleporting issue
  • Native 2560x1440 resolution

So basically:

  • Without gamescope: Mouse randomly teleports to the edge of the screen, but overlay works
  • With gamescope + --force-grab-cursor: Mouse is fine, but Steam overlay doesn't work at all [ gamemoderun gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 165 -f --force-grab-cursor -- %command% ]
  • Native Wayland mode: Heard Valve recently fixed the mouse issue, but overlay still doesn't work for me, and I can't select true Fullscreen (only Windowed/Fullscreen Windowed available), so I'm stuck at the scaled resolution

The resolution issue is because Hyprland has 1.25 scaling, so Fullscreen Windowed shows 2048x1152 instead of 2560x1440. And in native Wayland, there's no exclusive fullscreen option.

How do I get all these working?

  • Steam overlay
  • No mouse teleporting
  • Native 2560x1440 resolution (or at least a way to force it)

Has anyone figured out a setup that gets all of these working? Is there a gamescope flag I'm missing that enables the overlay? Or a way to force resolution in native Wayland mode?

Any help appreciated, been stuck on this for way too long.

Running bazzite on the bc250 and had a few questions

02. Januar 2026 - 18:27

Managed to grab a bc250 before the prices skyrocketed and I’m happy with the results. Great for 1080p and just a little 1440p but not recommended. Still a few things I should do though it seems.

I am wondering if anyone had a better power solution? I am just jumping two pins on the power supply with a button switch installed, but I would rather have a normal push button like a regular PC to start and power down, or wake from sleep. My current setup obviously is an issues for waking from sleep. Not sure if it’s even supported. Has anyone been able to accomplish this?

Another thing is when I put the bc250 to sleep, the power supply is still on. The bc250 is in idle but I need to reduce the idle power. Any advice on that would be really helpful. A little new to Linux builds like this, I followed the online guide, but it’s quite hard to navigate and find what I need. I currently cannot use sleep mode at all as nothing will wake it.

Lastly, has anyone got the wake through Xbox controller working or over lan? I have the original Microsoft adapter but I’m not sure that works. I can switch to Bluetooth as well. Might not work because it’s a mining card but worth a try. Looking for any input here.

Issues with Kernel 6.17 & 6.18, amd-pstate-epp & CPU boosting behavior after resume from sleep.

02. Januar 2026 - 17:59

Has there been any reports on an issue or regression regarding the amd-pstate-epp driver? Or something in 6.17 and 6.18? I only know of the regression with amdgpu that effects users.

Preface.
Last November I upgraded to AM5 + 7800X3D, a few weeks before my distro released updated to Plasma 6.5 with Kernel 6.18 lts.
Up till then I was still running 6.16.8 with amd-pstate (passive). Changed to amd-pstate-epp (active) driver for the 7800X3D and this worked fine on 6.16.8 no issues with sleep/resume.

Since I updated to Kernel 6.18 I have been having the following CPU performance issues when my system has resumed from sleep.
My CPU's ‘all core boost’ is no longer boosting to it’s ‘all core frequency’ under all core load. Which for my part is ~4.9Ghz.

The following boost behavior now occurs, after resume from sleep, on both Kernel 6.17 and 6.18:
Only two cores boost to max freq of 5049Mhz and the rest are stuck at 4.0Ghz.
A reboot is needed to get normal CPU frequency boosting behavior back for all core work loads.

Temporal workaround was to switch back to the non-epp amd-pstate driver amd_pstate=passive amd_prefcore=enable, still on Kernel 6.18 and the boost behavior issue after sleep/resume is now gone.

Nothing really out of the ordinary.
