Any cozy games to play on linux?

19. Dezember 2025 - 00:18

I need games that i can turn off my brain if my too tired but i still want to play something. Stardew Valley is too adictive to me, so I'm giving a goooood break (i would go to sleep waaay past mid night playing that game hehehe).

I usually like games like the Kingdom Hearts franchise, DMC franchise, Soulsborne games, Uncharted, SW Jedi games, and i also like some retro games, like Chrono Trigger, Duck Tales, some Metroidvanias and some single player shooters too, but all those are either mentally demanding on the story aspect, or mechanically demanding. Lately i've been playing those and dieing a lot or getting completely lost in the story. Stardew Valley got me really addicted for a cozy game, so any recommendations?

Arch vs Debian vs Fedora, and which one is for me?

19. Dezember 2025 - 00:18

Has anyone actually run like-for-like tests comparing the three or even two of them for a gaming environment? I know the "gaming" distros are typically forks of Arch or Fedora, but is it due to Debian being that much worse, or is it for more up to date hardware/ software compatibility?

I am running a 5800x3D, and RX 7900 XT, currently using Windows 10 LTSC. I want to make the switch to Linux, with the xfce versions of MX Linux and Linux Mint being most appealing. I primarily use my machine for gaming and have tried Bazzite but hit some walls, mainly when it came to uninstalling software and, more importantly, controlling my fans (GPU was not able to be controlled and CPU had to be handled in bios but it was finicky at best).

So will I be good to go on a Debian based distro, or should I look to Fedora or Arch?

Issues running games on my old laptop.

18. Dezember 2025 - 23:47

So, I've an old and shitty Dell laptop that I'm using for travel. i7, integrated GPU, 8gigs of ram. It was chugging with Windows 11, so I figured Linux (Bazzite) might provide better performance. And so far, so good. I have most of the "major" things I need on a laptop up and running. But the games aren't really working.

My sample size is small here, but I've tried couple Steam games, and tried to get couple non-steam games going.
For Steam, Vampire Survivors started just fine. But Ball x Pit did not.
Non Steam Games, I tried to get Hearthstone going through Faugus, managed to download the Battle.Net launcher, but aside from Faugus saying "everything is up to date", nothing actually launches when I try to launch it.
And I tried getting ZZZ on this, found some Sleepy Launcher that is supposed to be a workaround. It did download ZZZ on here, I can find the .exe, but when I run it, nothing really happens.

So no idea how to troubleshoot this, or where the problem might be. Is it the same issue across the board? Is it different thing in each case?

Steam not detecting my drives properly and spitting out "Disk Write Error" every time I try to download something.

18. Dezember 2025 - 22:45

Not sure what's the deal, I tried everything I saw on the internet but nothing worked. I reinstalled my os entirely but still nothing improved. My /var/cache drive works just fine but this one just does not want to. any ideas why that might be?

Sometimes when i try to add a drive somewhere else it just doesnt detect it at all, not even "external drive" appears

[Guide] Native Linux BG3 + Mods + Achievements Enabled (NO Proton, NO Script Extender)

18. Dezember 2025 - 22:38
TL;DR

If you are playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on native Linux and want mods + Steam achievements, BG3 Script Extender will not help, based on my testing.
This LD_PRELOAD-based native Linux patcher works, does not require Proton, and does not require Script Extender.

All credit goes to ahungry for this project:
https://github.com/ahungry/bg3-linux-ae

What i tried:

Proton + BG3 Script Extender + DWrite.dll overrides.
>Mods loaded
>Script Extender console showed up when launching the game via steam
I used:
"WINEDLLOVERRIDES="DWrite.dll=n,b" in the launch option
>Script Extender never created log files on my system, even though the console worked
>Achievements still did not trigger with mods active
(Tested with Homebrewer and Prison Escape)

Bottom line: I couldn’t get achievements working through Proton + Script Extender, so I switched to a native Linux solution that actually patches the “modded” achievement check at runtime.

Step-by-step guide:

Before we start make sure:
Force the use of a compatibility tool: OFF
Deleted previous scriptextender file/s
Deleted DWrite.dll
Remove any launch option

As with any mod or runtime patch, use at your own discretion.

1) Download

From:
(I recommend reading the link)
https://github.com/ahungry/bg3-linux-ae/releases

Download:

bg3-linux-ae.tar.gz 2) Extract to home directory

Extract to your home folder, as recommended by the project:

tar xzvf bg3-linux-ae.tar.gz

This creates:

~/bg3-linux-ae/

Containing:

3) Steam Launch Options (exact)

Steam > BG3 > Properties > Launch Options

Paste exactly:

~/bg3-linux-ae/bg3-linux-ae.sh %command% >/tmp/bg3.log 2>&1 4) Launch the game

Start BG3 normally from Steam.

5) Confirm it’s working

After launch (or after quitting), run:

cat /tmp/bg3.log

If you see:

Patch 1 match Successfully patched memory

Achievements are now enabled.

Mods location (native Linux) ~/.local/share/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3

That's it. DONE. Test it on an easy achievement, for me that was "Homebrewer" as still in Act 3 i haven't touched any alchemy but hey now I know how to brew potions. Anyways i spent some time debugging before i understood that achievements (for me at-least) just didn't want to work. I tried scouting online for many solutions (none worked) as nobody had a definitive answer... until I came across this GitHub project. Anyways HF!

GPU crashing and Linux (AMD Radeon RX 590)

18. Dezember 2025 - 21:55

Hey hey,

I recently made the switch from Windows to Linux (Debian), and honestly I am very happy with that decision. However, my GPU keeps crashing when I run games, specifically Elden Ring: the screen goes black, GPU fans stop, and I have to restart my computer.

I've been fiddling around in Corectrl to no avail. Could someone suggest me a Corectrl setup, i.e., clock speeds for the 8 states, memory frequencies, voltages, power limit etc? Or do I need to do something else like driver stuff?

I understand it's an old GPU, however I can't really afford a new one right now. It would be great if I could get this one to work.

I'd be so grateful if someone could help me. Thank you!!

How do you check if your machine is performing as it should?

18. Dezember 2025 - 21:45

Hi!

I have an uncommon laptop, and that coupled with Linux (EndevourOS) means that I can't figure out whether my machine is performing as it should.

I have a laptop with a 125W 4090 and AMD 7940HS, and I suspect my performance is lower than average, and something is wrong. That's because is some games (e.g. Dying Light 2) changing DLSS mode doesn't change my FPS, and even if I put everything on low FPS don't improve much, they are always between 50-80 depending on the game scenario.

On some other games, like RV There Yet, my friends on Windows get consistently higher FPS with an hardware that's slightly below mine on paper, but I can't get much more than 60 FPS.

What can I check and how can I actually measure performance? I already use almost always the lastest Proton-GE version. I tried others (e.g. Proton Experimental or latest stable from Steam) but results are unchanged. The machine is not TDP limited (I'm using default TDP limits) and it's not overheating (I replaced liquid metal with PTM7950) as both CPU and GPU are both way below limits most of the times (85-90 C for CPU and 70-80 for GPU)

Screen flickering

18. Dezember 2025 - 20:08

Hi,

I suddenly started to get screen flickering on CachyOS. So I checked if this also would happen on Windows, I have dual boot enabled. In Windows I don’t have the same flickering issues. So I tried to reinstall CachyOS and added the gaming package. This did not seem to fix the issue. So I tried installing a different distro. This time I tried Fedora and installed the akmod nvidia drivers. But still no fix. I also disabled GSP firmware, but still, no fix. So now I’m a bit lost and I was hoping the great people of this subreddit could help me :).

Thanks 🙏
