My main issues with linux gaming
Operating System: Fedora Linux 42
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.18.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel Version: 6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Product Name: 82GN
System Version: Lenovo Legion 5 17ARH05H
My 4 main issues with gaming on linux. First of all when I play more demanding games on linux my cpu overheats (unlike on windows), when it overheats either the game crashes or the whole os, this is apparent in any distro and I've spent months trying to fix it. Second of all, if I turn off cpu boost it doesn't overheat and the crashes stop, but while playing for example cs2, going from 120 fps to 30 fps isn't quite pleasing. Third of all, this issue isn't mainly for gaming, but my daemon power profiles disappeared after messing around with tlp and I spent over 4 hours trying to get them back but nothing worked. And the final and one of the biggest issues is when playing for example cs2, my system only uses like 20%cpu and 30% gpu.
Any help is appreciated

vk_error_device_lost when I try to use tango in DOTA 2
Exactly as the title says, when I try to use tango, the game instantly freezes and gives vk_error_device_lost error.
It is repeatable, I reconnected to the game and tried do the same and the game froze again
I am using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Intel iris Xe integrated graphics, so there shouldn't be much driver problem.
I have skipped the "loading shaders" part that you see before the game launches.
I am using linux version of the game

Games crash on nvidia
Hi everyone , need a bit help here. on my PC , I5 14400F , 32gb Ram 5600 , Rtx4060 , 650w 80plus silver psu , games have been crashing rather frequently and not just games, in some cases entire system freezes. sometimes I even have to force shut down, cause even restart button won't respond.
So I thought, gotta be hardware issue, stress tested and benchmarked every single piece of hardware, from cpu, to gpu and vram to ram to psu to ssd to cooling. hardware's ok.
Maybe bios, updated firmware, tried different settings, rebar on and off, xmp on and off, c states and aspm on and off , gpu pci link set to pci 4 , pci 3 , etc. no results.
So maybe it's nvidia drivers, tried versions from 550 to recent 580. did not help.
Different proton versions, from 7 to hotfix to GE. Steam launch options to stabilize proton. no help.
So maybe something distro specific, tried bunch of them, from bazzite to nobara, to debian / ubuntu to arch / cachy. nope, did not help.
at the very end, I did something I didn't wanna do, installed windows for testing purposes cause I gotta know at this point , is this hardware or is it OS.
to my utter disappointment on windows everything's fine , well no not everything, it's windows , but no crashes.
So... sorry fpr the long post, I'm still unsure but gotta be linux-nvidia-proton thing.
therefore I wanted to ask, do any of y'all who have nvidia cards, experience anything this severe ?
I knew I should've bought amd card, but I heard linux nvidia driver was doing better lately. well maybe it's not

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance
i've been playing the game for 3 days now. no update has happened to the game or my machine. Today upon logging in, the game will just randomly close; without any explanation. I am playing through steam. Steam is still running, it does not close steam. I've been running it with protonGE 10-17. I was quite literally jsut playing 5 hours ago... and without even turning off my pc i just went to bed and tried to play a bit before work and it's just closing the game with no explanation. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?
Linux Fedora
AMD ryzen 5 7600 X3D
30 gigs ddr5
amd Radeon 5600 XT
EDIT: and yes i did try restarting my PC, as well as verifying game files. No missing files where downloaded. I am about to try switching it to a new hard drive and see if that makes a difference.

EndeavourOS stuck on “clean, X/Y files, Z blocks” — SDDM not starting Wayland (NVIDIA, NVMe moved to new hardware)
Hi all,
I’m running EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma on Wayland. I moved my NVMe SSD to a new PC with an NVIDIA GPU (proprietary drivers). After boot, the system stops at:
EndeavourOS: clean, 2280846/61854976 files, 127098291/244189752 blocksI can access a TTY and manually start Wayland:
dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland…but SDDM fails to start. Logs show:
Failed to read display number from pipe Could not start Display server on vt 2I’ve tried:
• Forcing SDDM to use Wayland (DisplayServer=wayland)
• Reinstalling plasma-wayland-session and Qt Wayland packages
• Cleaning caches (~/.cache/*, ~/.local/share/sddm)
• Updating Plasma, KWin, and SDDM
• Switching temporarily to X11
Nothing works; SDDM just shows a blinking cursor in the top-left.
Any ideas to get SDDM working with Wayland? Thank you in advance.Hi all,I’m running EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma on Wayland. I moved my NVMe SSD to a new PC with an NVIDIA GPU (proprietary drivers). An all in one place launcher that looks GOOD.
I know this question has been asked but I'm looking for a playnite or gog galaxy alternative for linux. BUT what I'm looking for needs to follow these few things:
-allows for ALL games from all my launchers to be visible (not just epic and gog)
-MUST look decent or be able to be customized!!
-NEEDS to let me change the metadata of the games, such as images, descriptions and so on.
So basically I don't like lutris cus it looks bland and isnt customizable at all.
I don't like Heroic because it doesn't incorporate my steam library.
And cartridges seems alright but also it looks like it suffers from similar problems as lutris.
I just really like it when i get to have all my games in one place and i can make them as pretty as i want TvT

Mouse drag while click and hold doesnt work in any game except native ones
https://reddit.com/link/1o6a8b6/video/91lwfz46j1vf1/player
I was playing a few demos and some of these games required inventory management or actively interacting with its environment when i noticed that i have serious issues with my mouse.
In the one game with the inventory i wasnt able to move any items to a different space or remap my hotbar which is super annoying.
in this game the video is from you need to hold and throw items around or open doors with it. according to the hand icon holding works just fine until i move my mouse a tiny bit then it just stops holding.
i have no idea what to try at this point, tried switching proton versions from hotfix to experimental to 9. im on debian 13 with kde plasma using wayland
edit: forgot to mention native games.
since moving windows or playing minecraft works without issues it only issue can be proton/wine right?

Want to build a NASA PC (reasonably priced) using RTX 3060 Ti and EndeavourOS
Sound suddenly stopped working in steam games on arch linux
The sound in steam games was working fine, but recently it just stopped. Sound everywhere else is working as usual.
I saw this output in the terminal, it was the only thing relating to sound:
CSoundEmitterSystemBase::BaseInit: Manifest 'scripts/game_sounds_manifest.txt' with bogus file type 'new_sound_scripts_must_go_below_here', expecting 'declare_file' or 'precache_file'
Convar r_flashlightscissor has conflicting FCVAR_CHEAT flags (child: no FCVAR_CHEAT, parent: has FCVAR_CHEAT, parent wins)
Did not detect any valid joysticks.

Proton issues with GNOME (works with KDE)
I've been playing Marvel Rivals via Proton for hundreds of hours, and it has been working great. I've always preferred GNOME, so that's what I used for gaming as well. However, a couple of weeks ago (likely around the time GNOME 49 was released), I started noticing that some key presses were no longer registering properly.
It's difficult to reproduce consistently, but in situations where I had to press multiple keys at once, one key (often the last pressed?) would fail to register. As you can imagine, that made the game essentially unplayable.
I ended up switching to KDE, and the issue disappeared completely. I guess it's not too surprising that Proton runs better on KDE, considering Valve ships SteamOS with it, but I didn't expect the difference to be this significant.
That said, I've grown to really like KDE, so I've decided to make the switch permanent. I'm not sure how widely known this issue is, so I thought I'd share my experience in case it's helpful to others.
FWIW, the problem might be related to IBus, which has had similar issues in the past. Most of the bug reports I found are fairly old, but still potentially relevant:
- https://github.com/ibus/ibus/issues/2480
- https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5294
- https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/IBus#Keys_%22stick%22_after_being_held_down).
Disclaimer: I'm not here to bash GNOME. I love its design and still think it's a great desktop environment. It's just that, at the moment, this particular bug makes gaming via Proton unworkable for me.

BF6 Dual Booting Win/Pop!_OS file systems
Hello
Due to the fact that EA are being d1ck5 with the kernel-level anti-cheat in Battflefield 6 I now find myself in a situation where I need to dualboot Windows 11 on my machine to play it.
I know how to install Windows and manage it in GRUB. But my question is thusly: "Which filesystem is compatible with both Pop!_OS (debian) and Windows 11?"
The reason I am asking is that I have two m.2 ssd's in my system. One is for system stuff, e.g. my OS installation, dev tools and base software installations (GIMP, VSCode and such). My sencond disk is my "vault" where I have my coding workspaces and my game libraries (Steam, Lutris, etc.)
I know that Windows prefers NTFS and I believe my Pop!_OS installation is EXT4 but those two are not compatible. Which filesystem would you convert my "Vault" into to have it perform and support both OS's?

Inconsistent artifacts occurring on Fedora with RX 9070xt
As the title says, I am having weird, inconsistent artifacts in game and more rarely on my desktop. The closest thing I've found to an answer is it may be related to Freesync but turning it off just made the issues rarer. These issues are so inconsistent, I tried for an hour to get them to happen, but couldn't replicate them.
They tend to happen in game, looking like horizontal rainbow lines, grouped up. It'll occur as a flash and then won't happen again for a few minutes.
On the desktop, it looks like little gray horizontal lines popping in and out that disappear after a few seconds right after a boot. Does not always happen.
My GPU and monitor are both new, the monitor being newer. This did not happen on my old monitor, which was 1440p@165hz, no freesync. The new one is 4k@240 hz.
These artifacts do not appear in a screenshot or screen recording. If I can get a picture, I will attach it
Specs:
GPU: rx 9070XT
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
RAM: 32gb G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4
Monitor: ASUS XG32UCWMG
OS: Fedora 42 (up to date)
DE: GNOME 48 (Wayland)
Mesa: 25.2.4, some games run with mesa git
The way I seemed to have fixed it in one game was not using gamescope and disabling Freesync. I do not know if this fix with be permanent. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
EDIT: I also ran memtest_vulkan on both my ram and vram, with both passing. I did only run the 5 minute test tho...

Lutris' Wine doesn't detect folders
I don't know why, I want to know why, it seems very straightforward, but somehow it is not.
I used Lutris from CachyOS' package manager. There are folders not detected on the explorer for some reason. I put my games on /2tbhdd/Games/ and Lutris' wine doesn't detect it (default wine does work).
I already tried symlink, adding the directory as a different drive, the folders are still missing. Is this wine issue or is it something wrong with Lutris?

PS4 Controller on Arkham Origins not working
recently, i switched to bazzite from windows 11, and man -- i couldn't be happier.
i have a drive with batman arkham origins preinstalled, so i decided to use lutris to play it. when i was on windows 11 i remember the game did have a hard time detecting dualshock inputs. with linux though, i'm unfamiliar with it, and i'm not sure if it's as easy as emulating xinput.
any assistance to help get my ps4 controller detected on arkham origins would be much appreciated.

Using bottles for BF6?
So I know BF6 won't work native on Linux even through steam, but what do y'all think about using bottles to get passed the anti cheat? I've used bottles to get passed all of Blizzard anti cheats and even Epic games store launcher with rocket League and stuff. So I'm thinking it should work but I don't want to drop 70 bucks if there's something I'm missing and it won't work at all. Just want some other opinions and thoughts.
