Steam requires restart after playing a game via Proton every time. Looking for a solution if known.
Hey there,
I'm running plenty of games through proton using Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS. Proton seems to work great for everything I throw at it, but after I finish playing a game using Proton, if I try to launch the game (or another proton-using game) it tries to start and then aborts with no error message. The only workaround is to close Steam and start the game, or restart Steam and select the game as normal. This works reliably, but is annoying. Games that run natively in Linux do not have this issue.
Ideally, there's something I can do to fix it. I've done some solid searching, and I only found 1 year+ old posts with no real solutions. Just curious how known this issue may be and if there's something known to fix it. Thanks!

Lenovo LOQ 15AHP9 - CPU concerns
So, I recently bought the Lenovo LOQ 15AHP9, with a AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU. When I bought it, I did not know it would have some AI shenanigans (my bad), and I'm now aware that those features may require a driver not merged to the Linux kernel. I'm concerned that this may be affecting my gaming experience: rendering of games looks awful and choppy compared to Windows (even with 100+ FPS), and it seems like the system can't use its full performance. Should I just wait until a newer kernel adds support? Have anyone this laptop and experience similar problems? I really want to ditch Windows (I'm currently dual booting with Pop OS), but first I want to sort this out. Any ideas?

Gaming
I may fully nuke windows if FFXIV continues to work properly with latency on Linux. I ran a dungeon flawlessly on Starlink and with other people using the Internet and on Windows, I would end up getting lag. Probably cause of all the back ground garbage running and that's even with using the bloatware tool. I didn't lag once during my dungeon on Linux with PoP_OS! God I hope it stays this way, I don't want to wait till Fiber gets here to play FFXIV. It'll take Frontier awhile... lol Plus, customization is better on Linux C: And... You don't lose your wallpaper randomly either.

Texture flickering issue in Monster Hunter Rise
I have been experiencing some flickering issues with textures in MH Rise Sunbreak, I haven't experience this on other games such as Monster Hunter World and Warframe. I have tried lowering the graphics settings to minimum in order to diminish the VRAM usage but the issue persist, here is a video that shows the problem: Video
I also have updated the mesa drivers, I'm using Proton 9.0-1 in the video, changing the Proton version doesn't seem to fix it either. Here is some more information about my device:
I have encountered comments about this very same issue in the ProtonDB page and following the suggested tweaks doesn't seem to work. Any tip is very welcome, I apologize for my English, it's not my first language!

Can't use Proton GE 9-7 on Lutris (Flatpak)
Whenever I try to run any game or app on Flatpak Lutris with GE-Proton9-7, it crashes. I already installed the flatpak version of it, as it works on native Steam, but I still don't get anything.
Lutris has "wine-ge-8-26" as the default runner, and it really works for anything I play, but I've heard so many good things about GE that I'd like to try it on other games too.
I'm really new to "sandboxed" apps like Lutris, as I couldn't get it to install some launchers due to errors, and I don't know what else should I try.
Please, if you need any debugging screenshots or anything else, I'd appreciate that you guys tell me how to get them.
Thanks in advance.

ElementaryOS using Steam to try and play EverquestII through Proton very slow unplayable.
Half life 2 works fine so I'm pretty sure the graphics drivers are good. Also tried with Linux Mint and the performance is way better. Any ideas?

MH: Rise didn't launch on Ubuntu through Steam_snap, but launches using Steam_flatpak.
For people trying to run this game on Ubuntu, and failing to launch the game through native Steam(i.e. the one from the app store or installed using snap), this might help you.
Try installing steam through flatpak and you would be able to run MH: Rise even without using any proton tools.

Is an AMD GPU worth it?
I need a new laptop and since I've had my share of weird problems using a 1050 Max-Q on my current laptop I've been looking into getting a laptop with an AMD GPU.
There's pretty much only one option available for the kind of budget I am looking for, and that's the Asus TUF Gaming Advantage A16, which has a Radeon RX 7600S. For the same kind of money (~€1300) I can get a laptop with a 4070, which performs 54% better in benchmarks.
Is it the 7600S still the better choice?
Gaming is an important use case for me, if possible also with PCVR.

Advice on getting Steam games to play in Linux
I recently got a Lenovo Thinkpad T480 laptop. It has a 2 GB MX150 graphics chip made by nVidia, and I put Manjaro Linux on the computer.
Manjaro boots and seems to function perfectly when defaulting to use open source drivers. I installed Steam and then downloaded Killing Floor 2 within Steam. The option to download the game was initially grayed out; I could only proceed once I went into the settings menu, went to compatibility, and then enabled Steam Play for all games. (By default, the experimental version of proton was being used.)
When I try to play Killing Floor 2, first steam tells me the game is "launching," then "running." I can hear my laptop's fan speeding up, but there is no window where I can view the game, and I hear no audio from the game. The Task Manager indicates that KF2 is playing, but I can't see or interact with the game at all - even when I go back to the compatibility menu and set proton to specific versions.
How can I get games like Killing Floor 2 to play in Linux? From what I've read, they play rather seamlessly in Linux, but my experience has been confusing thus far.
Do I need to boot Manjaro with proprietary drivers (for the nVidia graphics chip) just to view the game?

Hey, i want to switch to linux soon. The Problem is, logitech ghub doesnt exist on linux.
Always when my headset connects i hear a beeping sound and the sound gets better. Im using a equalizer in ghub. Is there a way to use the same on linux?
I've tried reverse engineering ghub to understand how the equalizers work, but didnt get behind it...

Anyone know of a good replacement to Rainbow 6 Seige?
Hello All, I am wanting to remove the windows partition from my computer because it's becoming increasingly frustrating to bounce between my main system and windows. My hesitation is I currently am really into rainbow 6 seige but their anti cheat isn't supported on linux. Anyone have any alternatives that could fill that void?

RDR2 on steam wont launch
On steam if i try to launch rdr2 it just opens the rockstar games launcher and gets stuck in an infinite loading screen. it gets stuck saying "Connecting to Rockstar Games Services" and sometimes it gets past that and onto another screen with the rockstar logo loading, but then will just go back to connecting to rockstar games services. Ive tried using different proton versions, ive tried restarting, i reinstalled the game, i tried launching with my wifi turned off, i tried connecting from a vpn, ive tried pretty much everything but it is still stuck loading like this.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
AMD Ryzen 7 1700
AMD Radeon RX 580
Kernel version: Linux 6.8.0-35-generic
