World Of Warcraft - Path To files Question

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 9 Aug 2025 - 12:01am

I am a Linux noob, and I'm trying to get World Of Warcraft installed.

So far, I've managed to get Battle.net installed and working, my problem is now how to work out the file locations / paths. When I try to set the download location in Battle.net, it shows some folder locations that have Windows style names and paths (i.e. c:, My computer etc). I can't see anywhere that shows the SSD I want to install it on (it's a separate SSD from the OS).

I have the same issue if I copy over my old Windows install to the games SSD, when I try to tell the installer where the game is, I get the same old Windows style locations and no sign of the games SSD.

The SSD is mounted in the file system (I set it to do that automatically on start up, and it hasn't been unmounted).

Any ideas how I can specify the correct path to my second SSD?

Thanks.

Proton - Timing Issues in games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 11:36pm

Hi All

I primarily play games on Linux through Proton, I tend to find that it works really well with only the odd issue for most games that I play. I recently tried playing Nice Day for Fishin' from VLDL, and I really struggled with the timing aspect of it. I ended up purchasing the game on Switch and I didn't have anywhere near the same problems.

Has anyone else encountered this? That in games that require specific timing (think Dark Souls style parry mechanics) where you just can't seem to get it right? Does anyone know if this is just due to extra latency occurring because of Proton acting between your inputs and the game?

I had struggled with Grounded a while ago not being able to parry very well, but I just thought that I sucked on the game. After my experience with Nice Day for Fishin', I feel that it may be something else.

Thanks

LIMO, the mod manager

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 11:29pm

I found a mod manager that supports most of my moddable games. All you need is an API key from your nexus account and you're good to go. Limo has a straight forward UI and supports automatic downloads. My jerry rigged m02 and vortex setup is no longer possible on my OS, so I had to try this

Enable Secure Boot with Multiple OS for Battlefield 6

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 11:14pm

As its currently, sadly, not possible to run Battlefield 6 on (Arch) Linux I have installed Windows 10 on a second hard drive. But the next problem is, that Battlefield 6 requires SecureBoot...
Now the question is how I can achieve having secure boot enabled and still being able to boot into arch and into windows using GRUB.
Does anyone have any experience in this?

Enabling DSC on linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 10:59pm

My pc crashes when I connect my TV to it (and refuses to boot with my tv connected) but it’s stable if I disconnect some monitors. I assume it’s a bandwidth issue and that Linux might not support DSC and therefor also does not show 480hz as an option in the display settings even though my monitor is 1440p 480hz and does work fine on windows. Is there a way to enable DSC on specifically nobara?

Annoying "microstuttering" while playing RDR2 on Linux Mint

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 10:20pm

The game otherwise runs fine on my Ryzen 5 2600/RX580 8GB/16GB RAM system running Linux Mint Cinnamon. It runs at a good enough 55-60 FPS but it has this really annoying "microstuttering" or that choppiness you can just about see at the beginning of the video. I don't really know what is the name of that, since it doesn't affect the FPS in any way. It's not even really noticeable in the video. But it's still driving me mad since it does run smooth on Windows. It did get better after I realized I had no swap file and then set up a 16gb swap file on my drive, but setting the suggested starting parameters from ProtonDB and changing the Proton version from default to Experimental to GE-proton really had no effect. Is there any solution to this? Thanks!

Need Linux Alternative to PBO2 for Undervolting Ryzen 5700X3D

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 9:47pm

On Windows, I used PBO2 to set a -30 offset on all cores for my Ryzen 7 5700X3D, since my BIOS doesn’t support Curve Optimizer. Now that I’ve switched to Linux (CachyOS/Arch), what’s the best way to achieve the same thing?

They finally did it. Native Vortex for Linux Limited game support, but there are options to add unsupported games and it works well with some games.

I wish somebody had told me oversteer is broken

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 8:18pm

I really wish somebody had told me about 2-3 months ago and 100+ lines of code that oversteer does not work AT all anymore on Linux

I've tried mint, arch ect and it is the exact same thing

Unless im doing something wrong it is not functional, you can boot the app up but it will not save or let you edit various aspects due to permission problems

Mint is the worse,it won't ever save.

At least on arch you can do a few things and it'll stay that way barely.

Xbox One controller with nba2k

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 7:21pm

So I'm having an issue with specifically nba2k25 and even more specifically inside basketball games. The controller, plugged in or Bluetooth, works fine in other games, in the 2k menus, etc. but when I load into a basketball game the stick scrolls up and I have no input other than start to get to the menu and that works fine.

I've worked through chatgpt on disabling controller, tried different protons, installing xpadneo, though I don't know if I did it right.

Lastly this has happened on big my initial initial of Bazzite, and I'm not running Cachyos. Same exact issue so I imagine it's a game issue but I just no idea how to troubleshoot from here. Chatgpt had me insert some lunch commands as well.

Anyway let me know what else I might try, thanks!

Xbox series controller keeps disconnecting with usb and bluetooth

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Aug 2025 - 7:01pm

6.15.9-arch1-1

Controller is on the latest firmware, problem persists with xpad, xpadneo and hid drivers, controller works, but every 2 minutes or so it disconnects for a brief moment and reconnects again leaving 5ish seconds of downtime, can someone help me troubleshoot this? It gives this problem connected with usb too, so it's not a bluetooth problem.
