Marvel Rivals crashing
Is anybody still getting regular crashes on Rivals with Nvidia cards? I have a machine with an AMD card but its currently down at the moment so this is just a backup one.
Backup rig specs, currently on Bazzite
5600G
32GB RAM
3060 GPU
I have tried different proton versions, different startup commands, checking drivers, and I still can't get more than 15 min out of this game without it hard crashing, sometimes even requiring a reboot.

Nvidia 580 drivers date?
What is an usual delay between release of Nvidia drivers and it's being available on Arch or other bleeding edge distros?

Linux Gaming Still Has a Way to Go.. Bazzite on a Laptop Review
Screen flicker issues with freesync in games and on desktop
Hi, i've been getting some screen flickering issues recently with bazzite. I have a 2k 165hz screen and while on desktop or in game when nothing was happening and my FPS would go beyond 165 even though its capped my screen would start to flicker. I've solved that by going to system settings and setting adaptive synchronization from "ON" to "Automatic".
Now i'm getting issues with VRR and freesync in games that are not exclusive fullscreen and since i have 3 screens, i'm not running anything in fullscreen mode and everything is a stuttery mess because of it.
I'm playing world of warcraft in Fullscreen (windowed) because there is no fullscreen in the settings, i managed to get lutris -> bnet -> wow.exe working through gamescope with VRR enabled, terminal says that VRR is enabled but it clearly isnt, because the game visibly stutters.
My other screens are 2k 144hz and they dont have the flickering issue no matter the settings. The monitor that is causing issues is working fine on MAC and WINDOWS with HDMI 2.1 cable and with DP 1.4 cable.
My question is - Where should i look for a problem?
I have no clue from which directon to tackle this. I've managed to somewhat solve it but it is very far from ideal. I have Lutris running through gamescope from the terminal. Lutris is running Battle.net which i use to launch wow with custom command to launch it in fullscreen. When i check ingame settings it's still Fullscreen (windowed) just like before but now VRR is visibly working. FPS are jumping up and down yet the screen is not stuttering, nor flickering, but i don't want to launch lutris through terminal.
Thanks to anyone who finds a while to help.

[Linux Mint] Stuck on Processing Vulkan Shaders when trying to run Garry's Mod - even though it ran fine last week
Just got back from a week away from my house. Before I left I could run Garry's Mod just fine on my computer, during the trip I played it a bit on my Windows 11 laptop [I'd rather switch but Windows is easier for my mum who I share it with], and now it won't run on my Mint machine; it takes upwards of half an hour to process the vulkan shaders, and skipping that process causes the game to not launch. I am not willing to spend so long waiting just to run GMod when it worked fine before...
I've tried removing any addons I subscribed to on the trip, it doesn't help.
Searching online for this issue didn't help either; the fix that came up was this but I couldn't use it as I don't have a Steam folder in either of the locations it specifies, mine is located directly on the "home" section of the file explorer, and putting the c.cfg in it didn't have any effect.
What should I do?

Game always "Validating" and downloading 2GB after restarting PC and starting steam
The game is Monster Hunter Wilds.
Every time I restart my PC and start Steam it starts validating the game. Not only does it say Validating it also just downloads 2GB of data simultaneously. I already manually validated and I don't know why this keeps on happening. Does anyone have a clue? I am on Fedora and downloaded Steam via RPM Fusion repo.

Linux on the HP omnibook x flip 14 (core ultra 7 256v, intel arc 140v)
I bought an HP omnibook x flip 14 for college. Ive been using linux on my desktop for over a year and have just gotten used to, using windows frustrates me too much. There are a few games i want to play, namely Marvel rivals, clair obscur expedition 33, persona 5, nier. On my desktop (i7 10700k, rx 6700xt), the performance is significantly better, less framedrops, sometimes much higher fps.
I do want to squeeze out as much performance I can, starting with a much lighter OS. I don't know if the performance is really better on linux, due to drivers, Ive read online that windows offers better performance due to up to date drivers. If anyone is using the arc 140v on linux, can you give me some insights and some bechmarks (in any games, just to see differences if any)

Anyone here who had problem with gamepad Gamesir G7 Pro or any other gamepad that it doesn't work in game? It works in steam big picture mode but not in game. It works perfectly fine with cable just not when it's connected through dongle or bluetooth.

Trouble downloading mods with Mod Organizer 2, both manually and through the mod manager, on Steamdeck.
I just cannot get them to go to the mod organizer’s downloads no matter what I do.
For the automatic installation, I have all my nexus settings set up correctly to my knowledge. It does seem all the files associated with NXM files are there, though they don’t run when I click on them and I do not know if that is normal. Despite that, whenever I try to download with mod manager on Nexus, it gives a pop up asking which program I want to open it with. I don’t have anything in the server boxes, so that might be why, but I truly do not know.
For manual installation, I just cannot click and drag files from Dolphin into the downloads box for whatever reason. I can click and drag the files elsewhere, but it does not allow them to go into the manager. I have tried this with folders containing the individual mods and the files within the folders, neither of which work.
Is there any way to fix this or should I just reinstall?

Gaming Setup Guide for Arch and Arch based systems running on AMD GPUs
A (slightly) opinionated setup guide for getting started with gaming on Arch Linux (Should be fully applicable to its derivatives as well) for AMD GPUs.
PrefaceIf you’re using the archinstall script to install Arch, make sure to enable the following during setup:
PipeWire
Zen Kernel
Swap
Multilib Repository
GNOME or Plasma Desktop Environment (Optional, but preferred for gaming thanks to Wayland)
This will save time later.
Display ServerPreferably use Wayland over x11, it is the future and more modern. Do still keep an x11 session handy just in case.
Recommended Wayland desktops: KDE Plasma and GNOME.
2. Kernel & AudioThe Zen Kernel offers better responsiveness, especially for gaming.
Pipewire is a modern audio system that handles both pro audio and gaming latency well.
3. Enable Multilib Repository in the Pacman ConfThis is required for 32-bit compatibility, which some games and Steam depend on.
4. Install an AUR HelperUse an AUR helper to install community packages. Paru is recommended over Yay for its sane defaults and easier customization. Also remember the dangers of using the AUR, audit the PKG builds whenever updates roll out, Paru forces you to do this.
Important Packages via AUR:
protontricks – Easily manage Proton prefixes
proton-ge – Community-maintained Proton build with improved compatibility
Optional Tools:
jdownloader2 – Useful for downloading large files from the internet, pick jre17-openjdk when prompted.
nexusmods-app – For modding official copies of these games:
Stardew Valley
Cyberpunk 2077
The Witcher 3 (Coming in the future)
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord (Kinda works, not fully supported yet)
Bethesda titles (Coming in the future)
Baldur’s Gate 3 (Kinda works, not fully supported yet but full support is coming next)
5. Gaming & System ToolsInstall these packages to enhance performance, game compatibility, and system control:
gamescope – Game-focused Wayland session
gamemode & lib32-gamemode – Boosts system performance while gaming
goverlay – GUI for managing mangohud
mangohud – Performance overlay (FPS, temps, etc.)
lutris – Very configurable game launcher
steam – Pick Vulkan-Radeon when prompted for the Vulkan driver
umu-launcher – Required for using Proton via Lutris
prismlauncher – Essential for Minecraft, especially for modding. Pick jre17-openjdk when prompted.
wine-staging + wine-gecko / wine-mono dependencies – For running Windows games
winetricks – Configure Wine with ease on Lutris
qemu-full, virt-manager, libvirt – For running VMs
flatpak – Not recommended due to sand boxing issues, but useful for some tools such as Limo, which is a Linux native mod manager. (Nexusmods app is better, but that only fully works with 2 games at the moment)
power-profiles-daemon – Easy power management tuning if you went with KDE Plasma.
corectrl – Overclock your GPU for more performance. Remember to double check the entered values, as mistakes might instantly cause fatal hardware damage.
Web browser of your choice
6. Browser RecommendationsChromium-Based:
Vivaldi – Very customizable
Brave – Slightly lighter than Vivaldi (AUR)
Gecko-Based:
Firefox – Standard, useful for minimizing AUR packages while using Gecko
Floorp – Extra customization (AUR)
Librewolf – Minimal and clean (AUR)
7. Initial App SetupLaunch Steam and Lutris to let them initialize properly.
In Steam, set Proton Experimental as the default compatibility layer.
In Lutris, enable Gamemode, Gamescope, and Mangohud in global settings.
Install wine-ge-8-26 within Lutris settings as its the default recommended runner there.
8. System TweaksAdd yourself to the gamemode group to allow Gamemode to function.
Use CoreCtrl for GPU overclocking, remember to disable processor tuning in the app as it will conflict with Gamemode. And again, read this carefully.
Configure Mangohud using Goverlay, at minimum enable "Global enable" and "Hide by default".
9. Virtual Machine Setup (for Niche or Legacy Games)Enable the libvirt service and add yourself to the libvirt group.
Open Virt-Manager and set up a Windows 10/11 LTSC virtual machine for games that just won’t run on Linux. (Double check if they will even run on virtual machines)
10. RebootGreat, everything should work now! Now its time to finally install some games.
Optional: Audio EnhancementsInstall JamesDSP (AUR) and realtime-privileges.
Add yourself to the realtime group.
Use the AutoEQ website to create a .wav profile for your headphones and load it in the JamesDSP convolver.
Enable Bass Enhancement (At the lowest setting).
Set the Equalizer to the “Clear” preset.
Enable the Convolver.
Extra Tipsbtop – A great alternative to Task Manager on Linux.
rocm-smi-lib – Optional dependency for btop to monitor your AMD GPU on top of your CPU.
openrgb – Full control over RGB lighting (if supported).
Final NoteThis guide is meant to point you in the right direction, not hold your hand.
Use the official Arch Wiki to fill in the blanks, here are some helpful articles.

Whats your take on dual booting for anti cheat games?
I understand the sentiment around here is "fuck kernel level anticheat" and as a newbie into this space im starting to grasp at allbeit a surface level why this is a problem. this post is more aimed at the people like myself who still want to play those games yet dislike the OS your forced to play them on. is dual booting worth it? do VMs work? or is it just a case of stay with windows/macOS or drop the game entirely?

Someone explain this to me
- How does DRI_PRIME even work with Nvidia proprietary drivers?
- Why does it start using Zink?
- How is Zink even used with Nvidia proprietary drivers?
- Why doesn't it work if the game uses Wayland? (it's not on the video, but I tested with Barony and in Wayland mode it just uses llvm pipe)
I was just testing DRI_PRIME variable and randomly discovered that for Xwayland OpenGL games it forces use of my Nvidia GPU and somehow switches renderer to Zink while still using Nvidia proprietary drivers (according to mangohud).

Nvidia laptop user on cachyos, mirroring the laptop to my TV causes games to crash more easily. Anyone have an idea why that is or where to start troubleshooting?
I mainly play my gog games through lutris or heroic but it will also happen with steam games too. Anytime I have it mirrored to the TV.
I'm a noob who recently switched over from windows. Back when I played on windows I liked to mirror it so that friends and family can enjoy the back n forth of watching each other playing single player games.
If there's no fix I may just use sunshine moonlight. I'm loving loonix asides from this issue.
Right now the best way to prolong the crash seems to be using xcfe on 60 fps on both monitors. It still ends up crashing then but takes longer for it to.
Forgive me if there's some glaring obvious answer my nooby self didn't find.

Modding Unity Games in Linux Mint (Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous)
Hi,
Has anyone been able to succesfully mod Pathfinder: WOTR in Linux Mint? I tried using Unity Mod Manager added as a non-Steam game running Proton and it even says "Installed", but then it keeps reporting "Access denied" when I try to add mods. I can straight-up extract mods into the Mods folder after UMM installation and they even show up in UMM. However, UMM and the mods don't load up when I start WOTR.
This is strange to me because I used this method when modding Pathfinder: Kingmaker in Fedora 42 and it worked well so it must be some distro difference. And yes, I did take ownership of all non-root drives and even reinstalled the game on the same disk as the UMM.
Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Halo infinite
I knew the game ran in the past without a problem, I wanted to get back into it after the new update so I re-downloaded it and it is not working. I boot up and get into the title screen and it will not let me sign into my Microsoft account. There's a spinning wheel after you hit enter and nothing pops up. Does anyone have any idea of the fix this?
I'm running cachyos
Thanks in advance!

I want to play Dragon Quest X on my Arch Linux with an english patch. Offline version if possible. What do I do?
Looking for a little help
I am currently running Windows 11 on my gaming PC. For a while I've been thinking of moving to Linux for it. I'm not a complete idiot but I would like a guide and guidance on getting it working.
I use Steam, Epic Games, and GOG for my launchers. I know Steam has Proton but I haven't looked at how to install Steam games with it. How difficult will it be in getting my games from Epic Games and GOG to run under Proton?
I also use Vortex from NexusMods to mod a few games, Cyberpunk 2077 & Oblivion Remastered. How difficult is it getting that set up?
Thanks in advance.
