Questions regarding corectrl and safe temperatures etc.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. Juli 2025 - 13:18

I'm playing DQXI atm and I'm sometimes experiencing micro stutters when loading new environments. However looking at my cpu in corectrl, it's only utilized 20%~, however I also have this game on an old HDD so that could be the issue too. Should I try changing my frequency governor?

Also regarding my gpu in corectrl, I'm not sure if those temps are fine, but it is currently really hot in my apartment. Around 10~ degrees hotter than usual. Not sure if I should tinker with those.

Any advice thoughts highly appreciated. Don't know my way around these things I have the desire to learn.

llvmpipe is used in games instead of the Arc A770.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. Juli 2025 - 12:04

Has anyone encountered the issue that Intel GPUs do not work in certain games, but llvmpipe, which runs on the CPU, does? I recently installed an Arc A770 graphics card and started playing games. For example, Grim Dawn detects the graphics card and works, regardless of whether Xe or i915 is loaded in the kernel. However, Cyberpunk 2077 or Kingdom Come: Deliverance does not detect the card and runs on the CPU regardless of i915 or Xe loaded. Some other games, such as Diablo IV or The Last of Us: Part II, do not launch at all, displaying an error message about not being able to find a GPU.

MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=list vulkaninfo

Shows only

"llvmpipe (LLVM 20.1.8, 256 bits)" CPU 0000:00:00.0

But

lspci -nn | grep VGA

shows that Arc A770 is present, and other tools such as LACT and GPU-Viewer provide accurate information about the GPU.

Already tried to: set DRI_PRIME=1 - no success; forced DRI_PRIME to use my GPU instead of llvmpipe - no luck. Turned off iGPU - does not help.

I'm running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed with latest updates as of today.

Kernel 6.15.7-1-default

Mesa 25.1.3 (git-ba95e694fe)

KDE Plasma 6.4.3

Ryzen 7800X3D

Wayland session (already tried X11 - same result)

Payment Processors Are Forcing Mass Game Censorship - We Need to Act NOW

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. Juli 2025 - 11:42

Collective Shout has successfully pressured Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal to threaten Steam, itch.io, and other platforms: remove all adult content within 48 hours or lose payment processing entirely.

This isn't about adult content - it's about control. Once payment processors can dictate content, creative freedom dies.

We all dunked on Windows 8, but it was just a proof-of-concept for future Linux gaming.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. Juli 2025 - 11:35

Remember the Windows 8 "Start Screen"? That full-screen, tile-based mess that made us all rage-quit back to the desktop? Well, I've had a revelation it wasn't a mistake it was an unintentional beta test. Microsoft spent millions to show the world exactly what a console-like PC interface shouldn't be. Years later, the Linux community took notes. Today, dedicated gaming distros like SteamOS, Nobara, and Bazzite have perfected the idea, giving us the streamlined, full-screen gaming experience that Windows 8 fumbled. The irony : Windows 8 crawled so Linux could run.

Give Steam prefix access to view hidden files?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. Juli 2025 - 09:26

I have this version of Frosty Mod Manager installed as a non-Steam game under Proton 9 (tried running it in Bottles: didn't work). It's worked perfectly with Dragon Age: Inquisition, but it can't locate Dragon Age: The Veilguard. I tried to point it to the exe file manually using the search function, but can't do so because I can't see the hidden .local or .steam folders while inside the wine/Proton file browser.

How do I give it access to view hidden files and folders? Or is there another way around this? Is this a use case for learning about symbolic links?

I am using fedora KDE plasma, and i am running genshin impact using Heroic. I've done their advice where you must close and open internet upon starting game, if login is blank make just alt tab. But when I get in I'm always displayed with this notice. Any fixes for this?

Using Proton leaves single Pixel in top left corner stuck until game is closed.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. Juli 2025 - 08:47

Whenever I use Proton 10.0-1 Beta for playing a game on Linux Mint, whatever color the pixel at the top left corner of the screen will be stuck that same color until the game using Proton is closed. I've tried this with three different games and they all experience this same issue.

If I have something bright like the top of my web browser, then the pixel is stuck bright. If I have something dark like my desktop background, then it's stuck dark. If I open KolourPaint and fill the Canvas red and drag that to the top left corner of the screen, then it's stuck red.

I've tried swapping Proton versions to Experimental and Hotfix, but now the games fail to start. On 9.0-1, the pixel issue doesn't come up, but the games throw a fit when trying to alt-tab to see something else.

Any thoughts/tips?
