What OS to use?!
Hey guys, I am literally stuck at the first step. Primarily because I am not the end user, my daughter(11) is.
I share all of the age appropriate games from my library through Steam Family sharing. I’ve been a fairly regular Linux user over the years, just never for gaming because it didn’t really seem viable until the last few years.
Ubuntu/Mint/Raspbian/Graphene
I’m kind of tempted to just dump SteamOS on the laptop and call it a day but I know(?) it’s not optimized for Laptops(yet).
Any recommendations?
Hardware :
CPU : Kaby Lake i7
GPU : nVidia GTX 1060
RAM : 32GB DDR3

VC Runtime required while trying to play Grounded
This is on steam and I've tried installing VC Runtime 2010, 13 and 19 (SteamDB says those are the ones required) through ProtonTricks multiple times and just by running the EXE in the games target.

Nvidia Smooth Motion
So i recently found out that Nvidia Smooth Motion now works on the 40 series cards, after the recent driver updates. Does this also work on linux? Is it also done by editing the environment variable?

noob help
Hello, all,
I don't consider myself a "computer person," but I was just so sick of Microsoft that I got through installing Linux Mint Cinnamon on my HP Envy laptop. I'm also a console gamer, but I've always wanted to get into PC gaming
A family emergency meant I sat in the hospital for a couple days and to pass the time I successfully installed Steam. I had my heart set on Tales of the Shire, but I can't get it to run (I know this game has had a rough go, but I am all about the hobbit life!)
The game downloads and starts, but when I choose to start a new game, a loading screen comes up and it crashes and/or freezes right there and I have to hard reset if it freezes.
At first, I thought it was the internet connection available to me, but even at home it's doing the same thing.
It has AMD Ryzen 5 4500U and AMD Radeon graphics. I updated drivers. Is my laptop too old to run this game? Does the game just suck that bad :( it plays other games, so I don't think it's my Steam install that's the problem, though I have uninstalled and reinstalled Steam and Tales
halp :( I just wanna be a hobbit. Any and all advice welcome, but pls be gentle am noob

My Take on Linux & Open Source in 2025: AI, Security Drama, and Gaming
NaK 2.0.0 GO Release!
Hey all, I've finally released my long awaited update for NaK its now GO based. Here's the changelog:
Regedits should now work!
Synthesis also has a few fixes (if anyone knows how to fix this process is being used by another application please let me know)
I've now added the ability to auto select proton versions to experimental (credit to STL for having a small portable binary for me to use). It also has a automatic setup where you can go through the entire process of install dependencies as well now.
Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate 3 no longer need you to add launch options, I believe I have it in a state where everything should work and be automatically added to the winecfg see list below:
dwrite(dwrite.dll) winmm(winmm.dll) version(version.dll) ArchiveXL(ArchiveXL.dll) Codeware(Codeware.dll) TweakXL(TweakXL.dll) input_loader(input_loader.dll) RED4ext(RED4ext.dll) mod_settings(mod_settings.dll) scc_lib(scc_lib.dll)For now Hoolamike and Sky Tex Opti are missing until they are updated some more.
Revamped the menus to make them feel less cluttered.
Hopefully that should be all for now, I will be looking into making a gui for users as well (steamdeck).
Let me know how it works for you guys! If it works at all that is, I've been working on getting this out. o7

Planning Destiny 2 GPU Passthrough on Linux — Any Custom Proton Forks or Kernel-Level Windows Emulation for EAC?
Hey everyone,
I’m a huge Destiny 2 fan and have a second GPU arriving soon. My plan is to use QEMU with GPU passthrough to run a Windows VM for the smoothest experience with Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC).
But I’m curious — is there any existing custom Proton or Wine fork that goes beyond user-mode emulation to fake Windows internals in a way that can hide or spoof what EAC checks for? Specifically, could a Proton fork fake Windows structures or APIs that EAC probes?
Also, is it theoretically (or practically) possible to build something that: • Emulates the Windows kernel-level hardware info that EAC inspects, • Manages or mimics the kernel-mode drivers EAC installs, and • Implements Windows system calls at the kernel level, essentially acting like a mini Windows kernel layer?
Not just Wine-level API stuff, but something deeper at the kernel/hardware abstraction level?
Would love to hear if anyone’s explored this or knows of projects attempting it. Is this feasible? Or is GPU passthrough basically the only way for now?
Thanks

Dualsense features support (native games)
Does anyone know how to make the dualsense features work on the games that natively support it? I tested TLoU Part II remastered (steam) today and it didn't pair well with the controller because it kept drifting in-game and the buttons didn't work on some menus.
Consider that:
*It works fine on windows
*I am using a wired connection
*I have updated the firmware through windows about two months ago
*I disabled steam input
*I'm running Pop_OS

Trying (and failing) to get linux vr working (Oculus Quest/ Quest 1)
So I'm stuck at the very beginning, I got Wivrn to load on my computer, but It is not in the app store for the quest 1, So I start looking to side load it. but its not on sidequest, and i cant find a download for the application anywhere (googling with brackets around what I need gives 0 results). wivrn says it is compatible, so I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction.

Does anybody use Limo for modded Skyrim on Linux?
Hello everyone. I want to play Skyrim, and I thought I would give Limo a shot as my mod loader (which I installed via the AUR, not Flatpak), but I'm having some trouble getting it to work. I successfully installed SKSE and ENB the old fashioned way (drag and drop files directly into the game directory) and SkyUI as a test mod, which also worked successfully, but then I tried installing a bunch of texture and graphics mods and none of them appear to be working.
My process was that I installed Limo, it auto detection Skyrim, I got my NexusMods account linked, and I can download mods from the NexusMods website, which Limo detects. I install them as Limo recommends, hit "Deploy", launch the game, but none of them are working.
Am I missing something??? I can't find any tutorials or documentation on how to properly use it, so does anyone know of any or have any idea on what might be missing? Worst case scenario, I could just switch back to Mod Organizer 2, but I'd rather try to get Limo to work since it's a Linux native app.
Any input is appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

My game crashes every time I try to launch it
Every single time I try to launch Life is Strange (which is supported according to ProtonDB) on Ubuntu, it just crashes ( Steam Doesn't respond pop-up).
I tried both Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental, what should I do ? I'm new in Linux gaming and quite lost.

Win to arch no save files
After installation of arch on my pc, I download and installed steam+few games, but there were no save states on max payne 2 and civ6, but again in stardew valley which is native linux game I had every save file. Is this because of proton experimental that I use to translate games or there is some other reason?

So games that uses ACE anti cheat can be played with GE-Proton10-5
Seeing some games on Steam that uses ACE, they're playable. but I don't suggest buying anything in game cuz of possible ban. (Haven't seen anyone get banned for accessing it via redacted version of proton though.
