cachyos KDE Nvidia HDR Issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 16:11

Hi, i've installed cachyOs recently and i am loving it, problem is i have an nvidia 3070 and i'm having troubles with HDR, i installed the KDE Plasma version of cachyos; the issues i have is that if i enable hdr in plasma setting while the refresh rate is 180hz (i have a samsung odyssey g5 screen) i get a no-signal and the signal never come back (it tried to go back to no hdr but i still get no signal until i long press the power button); this issue i can workaround it by setting the max refresh rate to 120hz (it seems to work fine) but if i hit the reboot button in kde i don't really know what happens (something tells me the drivers maybe crash?) i get the no-signal and there's nothing i can do about it only long-press the power button to restart the machine and then the pc boot and works normally, until i have to reboot again... i get the monitor to go from "Display Port(hdr)" to "Display Port" for a second then it never get any signal, it doesn't even reboot unless i long press the power button. Anyone knows what can cause this? I also have adaptive sync enabled in the monitor in case that can be the issue but i don't have any issues unless i go and enable HDR in KDE...
While testing for ways of fixing the issues i discovered some things:

  1. Mostly likely the reboot didn't work cause i pressed esc or something before (when no-signal) and prevented the reboot i think

  2. I think the problem is that the monitor goes back to 180hz when switching from hdr to sdr and cause some kind of crashing

  3. I can limit the refresh rate in the monitor by disabling adaptive sync which make it work at 120hz and i don't get the no-signal issue anymore.

If anyone knows anyway i can continue to use HDR and Adaptive Sync and limiting somehow 120hz so it doesn't crash anymore it would be awesome. Even more awesome if there's a chance to have the monitor work full speed (180hz) with HDR and no no-signal issue.

Gamepad's touchpad issues on Pop_OS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 15:35

Hi, a very specific problem I have is that Pop_OS recognizes the touchpad on my controller as a mouse. Normally it's fine but very disruptive when playing Nightreign since my character starts performing attacks when I accidentally touch the pad.

The thing is, on Windows I don't have this problem, all of the buttons are recognized as gamepad buttons, so clicking on the touchpad simply opens the map as intended, without my character attacking.

Is there any way to resolve this?

I use Mavitech GP001 wireless controller, with steam input (without it the controller doesn't function at all).

The "crutch" solution I am utilizing is a key remapper program to disable the touchpad sensor and remap the left touchpad click to "M" so it opens the map as if using the keyboard.

Considering Hardware Compatibility while Mourning a possibly dead rig

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 15:08

I had to take a hiatus from Linux and Linux gaming this year (Side note, anyone have success with a CAC enabled Azure Virtual Desktop solution?) and have been out of the loop, but really the only multiplayer I do is Star Citizen, Elite or Helldivers and those seem to be doable on linux, so I'm thinking of coming back and just doing my windows critical stuff in a VM

And then last night my main gaming rig died. Maybe (cycling power gives zero indications, lights, noises, etc)

While I wait for a new PSU to continue troubleshooting, I'm considering my options, one of which is to replace my dead desktop and aging laptop with a new higher performance laptop.

But AMD GPU Gaming laptops are fucking unicorns. (recommendations in $1500-2500 USD range welcome)

So I gotta ask: Are nVidia and Wayland getting along yet or is it really critical to go AMD GPU if I want to game on Wayland?

I want to finally switch to Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 13:58

For the past 10 year's I'm using Windows. But I finally want to switch to Linux. The thing is I'm a gamer and I'm scared I'm not going to find every game I want because they run with exe. Wine can run exe but not all of them. And also I don't want to use a lot of cmd to download stuff. Is there a good os that can run everything that Windows run like exe bat and other stuff. That it's also user friendly?

Thinking About Switching Linux But Unsure About What Distro I Should Use

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 12:12

So this will be for my main pc rig. I do gaming and I game with my friends and chat on discord with occasional game modding (fallout new Vegas for example). Any recommendations? I’m not a newb to the Linux space, I’ve previously used Solus and PopOs but it’s been such a long time since I e done it. I’ve seen bazzite on JayzTwoCents, obviously Solus and PopOs, I’ve heard virtually nothing about SteamOs. So I’d appreciate any insight or recommendations.

Steam Notifications Don't Respect Waybar [Hyprland]

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 11:59

I am having a problem with Steam, specifically the toast notifications are over top of waybar in hyprland. That is to say, steam is not respecting the reserved area. Does anyone have a solution to this beyond just turning them off? Is it possible to send the toasts through a notification daemon?

Is Microcock secretly paying gaming companies to not support linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. August 2025 - 10:45

With the recent TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements in more and more games, which do not help against cheaters, is this a clear sign that Microsoft is abusing their monopoly?
