Warning: PokerStars Bans Linux Users

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 9:43pm

I installed Linux mint, Wine, PokerStars, played three play money sit n go's over the span of maybe three days, came in second all three times, then today, I awake to this friendly email:

I can't believe Han Solo is this petty over play money games, that I didn't even win? I came in second. Clearly, I need to upgrade my cheats for play money poker lol...what a bunch of clowns. Only posting because I've seen threads indicating it's alright to play on PokerStars on Linux, and clearly, that is not the case!

Skyrim stopped showing up as a Steam game. MO2, ProtonupQt and similar don't pick it up.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 9:22pm

I added Skyrim to MO2 manually, but i wonder if this is going to cause some issues down the line with other programs not recognizing it.

Also the SkyrimSE icon is some garbled mess of colors, i'm not sure it's supposed to be like that.

But i've run Steam validation, and it validates correctly...

Should i just leave it like that or should i worry? Because something's definitely not right.

Rogue Worlds is a free chaotic tactical roguelite platformer out now with Linux and Steam Deck support

Gaming on Linux - 14 May 2025 - 7:25pm
Rogue Worlds is a new free chaotic tactical roguelite platformer that's a spin-off of Aura of Worlds, a paid bigger game from developer Cognitive Forge. It looks really good and can't argue with that price.

Need help getting my favorite game's framerate to look right on the monitor, refresh rate set to 180Hz running game at 90FPS locked but looks like 30-45

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 7:24pm

I am trying to figure out what is going on with Dead by Daylight. I have the Steam FPS counter on and it shows it is correctly running at 90 FPS but to my eye I can tell it doesn't look like that FPS if that makes sense. To me, it looks more like 35-45 FPS even though it is locked at 90FPS. I have tried the newest proton version, experimental, and even messed around with all launch options I saw mentioned on Proton DB for this specific game. It was the first game I downloaded to try gaming on Linux.

I noticed the animations/physics are also seemingly in jittery slow motion and I have no clue how to fix this. I want to permanently switch to my current Linux setup but this transition is difficult when I don't know where to look to solve the problem.

If anyone has any clue anything I should do out of the box with Mint that I didn't realize I had to do to prevent this issue, please let me know! I have my refresh rate correctly set at 180Hz using the display options.

System Specs:
- Aorus Elite X570 motherboard
- R7 5700X3D
- 32GB 3600Mhz RAM
- Hellhound RX 7900XT
- 750W PSU
- 1TB NVME SSD from TeamGroup I got free with the GPU which allows me to get away with trying Linux for now
- Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon
- Proton versions tried: Experimental (FPS counter doesn't work with this version but has the same issue), the newest proton version available, and no others due to SteamDB showing these two versions as stable with the game

Overwatch on linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 7:20pm

I'm debating on switching to Linux for my gaming rig. My most played game is overwatch, and blizzard doesn't natively supports Linux. I know I can use wine or bottles to get it to work, but I play competitivly and I'm worried about the extra layer that wine or bottles will add.

Is this rational?

Has anyone tried to run overwatch on Linux. If so what are your results.

I have basically a flagship spec computer, so the hardware is not the problem.

Would love to know peoples experiences so I can finally say goodbye to windows.

The fusion of deck-building and space-Tetris in the demo of Moonsigil Atlas has totally hooked me

Gaming on Linux - 14 May 2025 - 7:01pm
Moonsigil Atlas has a demo out now and it's already shot right up to the top of my wishlist. The idea of fusing a Slay the Spire styled deck-builder with something sort-of Tetris-like is just incredibly slick.

How do I install Proton Experimental standalone on openSuSE Tumbleweed?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 6:36pm

Currently I play games that aren't on Steam (e.g. from GOG) but don't really work via wine alone by adding it to my steam library as an external game and selecting Proton Experimental as the compatibility tool. That works, however it is cumbersome and requires me to have Steam running to run the game (which depending on the game goes against memory constraints of my 15.4GB - I know, weird number, but that's what system monitor says I have - system). So I'd rather just run something like proton game.exe.

How do I install Proton Experimental (which I've found has the greatest compatibility of all proton versions in Steam) standalone on openSuSE Tumbleweed?

Minecraft: Bedrock

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 6:23pm

i know that you can play minecraft bedrock edition on Linux by using an android emulator and the PE of MC. However, this method requires you to buy a copy of MC:PE on the google play store, and i want to play bedrock on the Microsoft account i have it already bought for as the only reason i need to play bedrock is to get the capes from bedrock events such as the yearn cape, and these work on java, but they can only be obtained on bedrock. Therefore, buying bedrock from google play store won't allow me to obtain it as it doesn't associate the same Microsoft account with the google account. Also, i don't want to pay for minecraft again. Is there a solution to this?

Is this the problem if I cannot access my Bazzite instalation after installing Windows?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 6:14pm

I have a PC with a 2 TB SSD which has two partitions: in one of them (1.7 TB) I have Bazzite installed and for the other (100 GB) I decided to install Windows.
I choose the 100 GB partition and the installation went ok. But now the PC boots directly to Windows and I don't see Bazzite in the UEFI settings.

ChatGPT told me that Windows probably "overrode the boot-loader" and to fix it I have to boot into a Linux based ISO. Is that conclusion ok? I have used ChatGPT before for issues on Linux but a few times got everything worse.

Thanks!

Quests, Reputation, improved highlights and more in my roguelike city builder, called HexLands, inspired by Slay the Spire and Civilization! What do you think?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 May 2025 - 6:13pm

Hey everyone, I hope you're having a great week! :)

I'm Tibor Udvari, a solo developer, and I'd like to showcase 4 months of changes in my roguelike deckbuilder, medieval city builder called HexLands!🙂 You can try it on Windows, Linux and macOS, although there's a queue right now. (but Discord members can skip it! 😉)
First, here's a quick summary of what I've been working on in my last three years:

  • HexLands is a turn-based, roguelike city builder set on procedural medieval islands.
  • Grow your empire and adapt to harsh environments!
  • Customize your deck, manage your resources, complete quests, and synergize perks!
  • How far will your empire reach?

So, what exactly changed since my last post? Well, first, I hit the three-year milestone... Huh, it's been a ride, I didn't expect it to take this long.😅 But I'm getting closer to the finish line, day by day.

Anyway, now you can end your turn instead of the previous "fluid turn system", so now it works just as it does in other deckbuilders. There is also a health system called "reputation", which you must take care of. Procedural quests appear every few turns, offering rewards or punishing unmet demands. Between levels, now you can trim your deck or recover reputation. The update also improves tutorials, settings, visual clarity, and a lot more. Hope you like the changes, let me know what you think. :) The next big update I'm working on is a UI Overhaul and a branching node map, similar to the one seen in Slay the Spire. I also added widescreen support and hopefully soon Steam Deck compatibility.

Oh, and recently I've created a simple promotional website for the game, feel free to check it out. :)

If you’d like to try it, know more, look at some GIFs, screenshots, just visit HexLands’ Steam page and of course... wishlist it in case you like what you see. 😃 You're also welcome to join our Discord server so we can shape the game together! :)

If you'd like to skip the playtest queue, just hit me up on Discord to get an instant access key! :)

And if you just don't care about Steam, you can just download it on Itch!

Thanks in advance for all the feedback and have a nice week! :) ^^
Tibor
