Could somebody give me some help on identifying the problem here? Running BeamNG on low-medium graphics on Nobara 41, with Proton GE. Looking at the graphs, there are constant CPU use spikes that lower the framerate when they happen. What should I do? This problem also happened with other versions of proton, and on all maps. Note: I used to play on medium-high graphics on Windows and none of this happened. What should I do?

Hello, Im currently playing through Raspberry flavoured (modpack). On the first day of installation the sound was working correctly. On the second day everything was bass boosted. I searched for a solution and I found that if i change my main volume output to a different one and switch back to the first one it fixes it. However, that stopped working and my game is bass boosted again. So, I wanted to try Ubuntu on my laptop and saw that most things will work native now. I previously ran CS2 no problem. Machine is a dell inspiron i7 12700h / RTX 3050 / 40GB RAM.

The machine is nice with Ubuntu, way snappier that Windows, everything nice, even runs cooler. CS2 launches OK and in the menus and with the guy standing infront of the train everything is like butter. But when you actually enter the game everything slows to like 7-10fps, with just occasional little bursts of smoothness.

What it reminds me of, is when you switch to vulkan in Windows it will start a new level super jerky then smooth out, but it never smooths out.

I ran nvtop to check that it's using the right GPU and it is. I've changed to the 570 drivers using the 'additional drivers' bit in ubuntu, no change.

Whats weird is NVTOP shows the nvidia GPU utilisation not full, just bouncing around randomly, but as soon as you drop back to the guy/train menu bit which is smooth the utilisation pings up to 100% again.

Anything else I can check/try?

I've had a pc with a low profile 1650 LP for a while but I find the 4 gigs of vram are quite limiting, it's showing it's age and is loud. so ideally I need something that is more performant with more vram and doesn't break the bank and ideally isn't NVIDIA. (If the drivers for newer cards are better I might bite the bullet)

the options I found:

• 4060 low profile (too expensive, NVIDIA)
• Intel A310 (not enough of an upgrade) > has anyone tried it ?
• RX6400 (not enough of an upgrade) > is it worth it for the sake of drivers ?
• 3050 LP 6gig (NVIDIA) > how bad are drivers ?
• A2000 6gig (too expensive, NVIDIA) > how bad are drivers ?
• Intel A380 (Basically doesn't exist) > does anyone know how to get it in Europe ?

Have I missed anything ? please let me know and/or correct my assumptions.

1- I game alot so would I be able to play all the games i had on windows?

2- I also do some graphic design would that affect me much if I did the switch?

I installed Need For Speed: Most Wanted via Lutris, along with the following: * NFS-XtendedInput * WidescreenFix

For some reason, the "B" button is mapped to "A", and "X" is "B". Any idea how to fix that?

For some reason, I don't have that same problem in Underground 2 & Carbon

I want to play PC games on my TV with a controller. I don't like Steam as it's proprietary and requires Steam to be running at all times which consumes resources. Most of my games are non-steam games, and I'm afraid Steam might collect info about my games and report me, thinking I obtained them from "questionable" sources... 🏴‍☠️

I need a FOSS game launcher with controller support. It needs to be available on Linux and Windows since I dual boot Arch Linux and Windows 11. And it needs to be easy to use, and preferably auto-downloads artwork. I'm currently using Pegasus-FE, but having to manually download artwork and manually edit metadata.pegasus.txt is a pain, and I have to get up from my bed and go to my desk. Lutris finds game artwork for my non-steam games no problem, but it doesn't support controllers and it's not available on Windows.

Hi, I've been pondering switching to linux. My machine is quite underpowered(rx 5600 xt and r5 3600. Do you think there is a performance hit on indie games like hades 2 and AAA ones like elden ring? These are my primary games. I've read that desktop environments can also slow things down and widgets too. Im a massive fan of a desktop clock widget and transparent taskbars, will that also take a hit?

Secret Maryo Chronicles is a game that I liked playing a lot in the past but now I can't play it because it is too old. No flatpak or AppImage for this game. Tux games are good but this game I liked more. I can play it on Windows but not on Linux without compiling which I don't want to. There should have been flatpak or AppImage of this game. Can someone create that? Or may be if it already exists then share it.

I am building a new PC and am trying to decide on the distro I want to use. Up until now I have used Ubuntu but have been wanting to look into other options. Debian with plasma was my first idea, but I have heard that debians slow updates are not great for new hardware (in my case the newest component is the rx 9070 xt). I also have considered arch but my primary worry is that something will break some day that i dont know how to fix. What distros would you recomend? Plasma and Gnome are my preffered DEs and I would like to avoid snaps.

Playing Overwatch from Steam and the game runs fine, but I noticed it is using A LOT of memory... Is this normal?

This was after one game played. When launching the game it takes 3GB and then steadily goes up, stopping around there.

I'm using Proton-GE 9.27 on a fresh EndeavourOS install, shader cache is disabled, game setting on low.

Here are my specs:

so i downloaded Oblivion Remastered and i am having trouble.

when i run it with almost any proton it gives me an error,

`DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument.`

so now i naturally thought i should run it with -dx12 which as expected threw me same error.

in protondb it is rated as platinum which means it works.
they suggested many commands i tried them it didn't worked at all.

i use arch and i tried it both, in hyprland and in kde plasma cause i have some mouse issues with hyprland before.

what should i do now?
