Is it possible to run Doom: The Dark Ages on Linux using Battle.Net?
Hi, since i have the xbox game pass i was trying to launch the battlenet version of Doom The Dark Ages.
I'm using Bottles and running Battlenet on Proton Ge 10.1 the last version of the launcher seems to work fine and it's possible to install the game, but then it gets stuck on "update" and if i try to press the button it gives error BLZBNTAGT00000843
Did someone managed to run it on Battle.net? am i doing something wrong?
EDIT: Solved - Confirmed working on Heroic using latest Proton GE

Moving from Nvidia to Amd
So, I've been running Fedora with my 4060 for a while now and honestly, it works great. updated to Fedora 42 recently, wayland is running fine and I haven't noticed any major bugs or performance loss in games or KDE. anyway, I'm looking at a 7800XT with a good discount right now and those extra 8gb + horsepower seem like a good deal. question is, do I need to do anything or I just need to swap the GPU with the Amd one? the latest Mesa version is already installed and all. btw, if you have a 7800XT let me know about your experience with it

Looking for advice
Hi! I am planning to build a new PC, and am quite interested in switching to Linux from Windows, and would need a bit of advice from users.
Basic gist of the build: - AMD processor and GPU - at least 1 m.2 and another SSD. Maybe will go for 2 m.2, will see what I can afford. - 32gb dual channel ram
What I want to do: - gaming. Not hardcore gaming, i don't need ray tracing and shit. I mainly play RPGs. Either steam or GOG. Sometimes piracy (yarr) - various document/ppt/spreadsheet creation and editing. I can do just fine with Google docs, since the collaborative/sharing part is useful. For ny personal notes I use Obsidian - Nord VPN is essential.
My questions: - which Distro would be fitting? I don't really have the time to dive deep from the start, I would like a simpler/user friendly option. - would Google Drive work normally? - besides Proton, what else would be an essential? - do I need antivirus and antimalware software? - what would be the cons nobody talks about, in using Linux instead of Windows? - any other advice I missed?
Thanks!

Just wanted to sing the praises of ProtonGE.
So, today, my brother comes over since he's in town for a few weeks, and we get nostalgia. We decide to play an old Minecraft modpack (CrazyCraft 3). Only problem is that the only launcher with it is a decade old and only supports Windows. I try with regular Proton... Nothing.
I start to feel the oncoming headache of 6 hours debugging. I decide to try ProtonGE, cuz why not?
BOOM! WORKS OUT OF THE BOX! I highly suggest trying it if regular Proton does not work with a game.

ProtonGE unlike it's predecessors (both GE and official) enables mouse pointer acceleration in games (when the Wayland driver is enabled)
So, the other day (on the release date) I chose to finally experience my game of choice with the least latency possible on Linux (Wayland native). So, I installed it and added the PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 flag to the launch options. It ran, but then I noticed that the game had mouse acceleration enabled by default.
Now the reason why I am saying this is that I love having mouse acceleration on during my time on the desktop, but in games, you can imagine how bad it can be. Proton gave me an experience which was better than Windows in that regard.
I know where this issue is possibly coming from. Back with no Wayland driver there was the X server running, which possibly had the function disabled (because it was only assigned to that window), now with a unified Wayland driver for the game and the desktop you have a unified setting for the acceleration being on and off. So the setting is universal, like it was in Windows. But my point is that back with Proton 8 (stock), the issue did exist. The issue was later fixed with some version between Proton 8 and GE's 8-25, so it was most likely seen as an issue. I mean that it is like taking a step backwards.
This issue has to be addressed or if you do not agree with that tell me your reasoning for it. Also could you please include a temporary solution to this matter? To be clear, going back to Proton 9 (although, very temporarily I have) is not a solution for me, as I want to have the native Wayland driver.
Thanks for reading. I might make a video over this post too.

Nubs! Arena is a chaotic multiplayer brawler by ex-Awesomenauts devs, free for the first 24 hours
Windows pissed me off, so I made due on a joke I made with friends for the last 2 years
I'm glad to now be an Arch User. And I'm happy it didn't take too much technicality to get my games running.
Now to see if I can't get my dead uncle's old game from sourceforge working since it wasn't ever intended to be compiled on windows

Why aren't there good open source android emulators?
I want to amend the title to be "android emulators for games" since there *are* emulators which focus on development and testing applications. The main complaint with these are that they are slower than the below applications.
There's a ton of proprietary android emulators (on other operating systems) like mumu, nox, ldplayer, bluestacks etc but there aren't many which have like an "open source" spirit (even on other operating systems).
Of course there's waydroid, but it has limitations compared to the examples listed above. The previous examples have wider GPU support for example (nvidia)
There are lots of open source emulators for an assortment of game consoles and other devices, programs stuff like qemu for different architectures. There just doesn't seem to be a similar open source community for android emulators even though it's clear from the many proprietary alternatives, that there are many people who want android emulators.
