power-rules-daemon 1.0 has been released
I've coded this little rust daemon as replacement for cachyos game-performance (which doesn't support flatpak), and also for gamemode (which doesn't support flatpak either) entirely, when used along with ananicy-cpp
Elden ring detected? Let's go into performance mode!
How it worksWe read a ~/.config/power-rules/config.toml like this example
[config] default_profile = "balanced" [[rule]] name = "eldenring.exe" profile = "performance" [[rule]] # As many rules as you want. And automatically set the power profile while the game is running using powerprofilectl. Once the game is closed, we go back to the default power profile.

Can't interact with these options in the Steam client (Native)
I'm running EndeavourOS, with XFCE. Trying to click "Subscribed items" for example, just chooses the Add-on right behind it as if the menu isn't even there.

Dual Boot or Cloud Gaming?
I'm undecided on what to do, cuz I only need it for fortnite.
If I dualboot, I'm getting an external SSD for Windows, and it's free....
If I choose Cloud gaming I'm able to play anything without downloading and taking up space, but the Internet latency will sometimes lag it. 🤔🗿

The small things keeping me going back to windows.. And how you could probably help me get it working
So I have been admining Linux for about 2 years now with daily desktop gaming and general ussage since january. But i have recently had to bite the sour apple and go back to windows.
And it likely works on Linux. I might just be looking at the wrong place. I want to use Linux because it feels like fresh air and KDE feels more at home than windows does now.
So here is my breakdown of what i changed and what caused me to crawl back to windows where "it just works but we suck your soul out"..
I got a VR Headset ( yay its dope ) but alot of the games i wanna play are games that kind of require modding to be great experiences ( Skyrim fallout 4 are examples).
I know it can be done, the issue is more so how.
So here is what i got setup and working as intended.
I grabbed ALVR and got that working getting a pretty nice 100mbit AV1 video feed that looked fine.
I played a good few hours of Half Life 2 VR ( because I wait for the autum sale that probably will put Alyx back down to 20 ) and it ran and felt perfectly fine 120fps all day.
Then I wanted to play Skyrim VR and I just could not for the life of me find out how to get Wabbajack or ModOrganiser 2 working inside the prefix. I tried scripts that seemed abandoned but some say was still working. I tried some of the manual install but i could never get it to the point of actually opening mod organiser 2 and being able to install mods.
So TLDR I am probably ass backwards and can't figgure out how to get Mod Organiser 2 working with.. Well lets just say any game for now.
Specs in case this matters.
Arch ( 6.15.x ) Nvidia GPU running 575.xx.5 ( i don't remember if its 64 or whatever the middle number is ) 32GB of ram CPU: 5800X
i hope some of you can give me a hand. Thank you for reading my ted talk?? :D

Can't launch my games in any distros installed
So, first-time Linux user here for gaming. Here are the following things I tried
Distros used:
- Fedora
- Nobara
- Mint
For Fedora and Mint, I made sure to install the app that downloads the latest Proton version to download protonGE. I also made sure to check for any pending driver updates(they were up to date from the start) I installed Steam, and the first thing I did was detect my drives and then went to settings>Compatibility and set the version to the ProtonGE. Once I tried to launch the game, it showed as launching and closed without any error. This kept happening repeatedly for a lot of games, so my first thought was maybe Linux does not work with game files that were downloaded for Windows and are detected by Steam for Linux.
Things I also tried:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
- Forced compatibility in the game's property screen(in addition to setting the compatibility to ProtonGE in Steam settings).
- Reverted to vanilla proton version(one provided by steam)
- Installed both Lutris and Heroic for all third-party launchers.
None of the fix attempts I tried seems to work and help me launch any games.
Things I haven't tried:
- Installing Bazzite OS
- Praying to my PC to just work
- Giving up on Linux for gaming yet.
Here is the list of games that I tried launching didn't work:
- Death Stranding
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Tom Clancy's Division 2
- High on Life
- Second Extinction(Delisted game)
- Lego Builder's journey
- Dave the diver
- Tiny glades
- Detective Dotson(the only game that managed to launch)
anyone know how to fix this?

How do you use ReShade with Gamescope?
I'm on Manjaro and I'm trying to use reshade with gog games via Heroic Launcher. All guides I can find are incomplete, as in there is no step by step setup for it, anywhere. No Reddit, not Youtube, not in any forums I can find. In Heroic there is a Gamescope section where you can set commands.

Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora or Linux Mint for a someone with a AMD GPU and that is new to the linux community?
I been researching for the past hours about which linux OS to install and I'm not sure which to choose, I'm not making the switch fully but since a have a 480gb SSD that i dont use i want to install linux there and use is for gaming mostly.
I was thinking of using of the following OS:
-Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
-Kubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
-Fedora Workstation 42
-Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon Edition
I choose these since i believe this four are the most user-friendly OS to start learning and using linux but before going for one of them i wanted to ask about opinion of which of them any of you recommend and which of them have better compatibility for a AMD GPU user (6700xt)

Trying to connect to a wireless Nintendo controller causes "kf.bluezqt: PendingCall Error: Did not receive a reply."
When trying to connect a Nintendo Pro Controller or a Joycon via bluetooth (by pressing the "sync" button on the back), its lights blink for a pretty long while. After that, it briefly shows up between the connected devices, before returning Failed to connect: org.bluez.Error.Failed br-connection-create-socket on both bluetoothctl and the Bluetooth settings.
Furthermore, trying to connect the controller while running journalctl -f shows the error: bluedevil-wizard[11248]: kf.bluezqt: PendingCall Error: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."
Both hid_nintendo and joycond are running (I did install hid-nintendo-nso-dkms without conflict alerts, which surprised me since hid_nintendo should be included in linux_headers). Also, 60-steam-input.rules, 71-nintendo-controllers.rules, and 72-joycond.rules are all in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d.
I'm currently running:
- 6.15.8-arch1-2
- KDE Plasma 6.4.3
- bluez 5.83-1
It should be noted that connecting the same controller with a cable works without issues.
Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide, or anything else I could try. I've been wrapping my head around this for quite a while, but I still can't figure out what is causing this problem.

New linux user and need software suggestions
I use a gaming laptop. It is the Zephyrus G16. Assus ROG.
This laptop uses Armoury Crate for adjusting the laptop to be on silent, performance and turbo mode. The basic setting manager for gaming laptops. However armoury crate isn't applicable with Linux
Is there any other alternative?
