Recently i upgraded my laptop to a gaming laptop (Machenike L16s, R9 7945HX, RTX 5070 ti), previusly i have an hp pavilion with celeron, it did't usable with win11 and i tried lubuntu, after using linux was very dificult for mi return to windows, i know that drivers of nvidia dGPU in laptops is very dificult because nvidia optimus, but i really wanna use linux in my laptop, and i wanna can change the energy profile when i use de laptop conected and disconected to AC, you know a utility or app on linux that it works for laptops, and some recomendation with nvidia optimus on linux?

I am having this bug nearly every session. There were just two session I had no problem, but I can't say that I did something different there.
I am very new to linux, so I am not sure about all the dependencies, but I am a former IT guy so here are some facts:

-Cachyos: 6.17.9-2 64bit
-KDE Plasma: 6.5.3
-CPU: AMD 3900X (even if it looks like a graphics thing)
-GPU: 4070 Ti SUPER (580.105.08 driver)
-Proton: 10.0
-Wine: 10.20

This has been giving me a major headache for two hours, with no working solution. So, I have been playing Yakuza 0 (GOG version as non-Steam game) with my Asus TUF FX504 (GTX1060M + Intel UHD 630) on Bazzite. It has been working absolutely fine, until today. I have not done any system updates in between, nor have I touched anything else either. It just refuses to launch with the error mentioned on the title.

I have tried __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command% and DRI_PRIME=1 %command% to no avail.

I also tried launching it through Lutris, which still works. However, I can't get Steam Input to work that way, which I need. Steam Input doesn't work even if I add a Steam shortcut from the Lutris game.

Any help is appreciated.

For the longest time I could not get streetfighter six to work properly on my A750 and it seemed like there weren’t any good sources of fixes. The key problems were: hard lockups when throw techs occurred, atrocious network performance. Posting it here for whoever else might be searching for the same issues:

Using Fedora 43

Stayed on i915 driver (Xe had awful graphics corruption, huge swathes of the screen/characters simply didn’t render)

Updated to latest Mesa here: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/xxmitsu/mesa-git/ (probably unnecessary?)

Set “effects level” to lowest - this made throw breaks stop hard locking my system. All other settings seem fine at high/whatever.

Ran “sudo sysctl kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0” from here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6817 (fixed awful network performance) (could probably use game mode to fix this too?)

Now keeps mostly 60fps with most settings at high/highest and hasn’t crashed or hard locked again.

Hi so I've been using nobara for a while now and decided to test skyrim, for some reason the game doesn't feel smooth, it feels like 30 fps. I've tried Proton 8,9,10 and ge and i don't see any difference. I have the rtx 4060 and ryzen 5 5600, games like cyberpunk, fallout 4 and witcher 3 run perfectly fine. Any suggestions on what can i do?

Idk how to fix it, yes F11 does reduce the input lag but other than that it doesn't fix it, my laptop is ASUS vivobook17 pro and it's specs are: intel i7 gen8, 8gb ram ddr4, MX130 gpu, and it runs on zorin os 18 core (no premium)

Hi everyone, I'm trying to run this very old game from around 2004 that was built for windows ( https://archive.org/details/accion-rescate-5 ). I have the original installation files so I was trying to install and run it.

I have tried bottles, lutris, and wine. Wine seemed to help the most tbh..

I installed wine and ran:

$ WINEPREFIX=~/accionrescate WINEARCH=win32 winecfg

As I'm sure it is a 32-bit game. I tried setting Windows XP first.

I installed it by copying the installation files to the drive_c in wine. Then I went to the spot where it was installed (drive_c/Program Files/BetyByte/Acción Rescate) and ran the executable. The first error is regarding something to do with directX.

I tried installing quartz with winetricks but that didn't work. I did some research and came across this:

I feel like I've made some progress trying to debug it. However I can't seem to get rid of this issue. I've tried changing the Windows version in winecfg (from Windows 2003 to Windows XP to Windows 2008 to Windows 10) they all give the same issue.

I tried running this on my windows 11 and it installed fine. Just want to be able to run it on Linux. I don’t think it should be hard to fix this issue tbh, I’m going to keep looking into it.

Does anyone know how I could debug this further?

newbie to Linux, i have been hearing that games like Elden Ring run better on Linux with AMD GPU, offering generally 5-10 more FPS and a way better 1% low, with zero stuttering.

i want to know how i can actually set Linux to benefit from these performance gains. i have tried on Linux Mint, and it had run a lot worse than Windows.

my GPU is a RX560XT(performance very similar to a RX570).

i'm using Linux Mint at the moment, but i can switch to another distro. i only want Linux for web browsing and playing some games that run better in Linux.

Titan Quest Anniversary Edition specifically. But I've noticed games like Guild Wars, or KOTOR 2, run better in desktop mode with mouse and keyboard, because when using the mouse and right click, the game doesn't stutter like in game mode.\

Any other reliable sources other then always going to protondb?

So, I've gaming on linux for awhile. Some games work, while other don't one issue I'm having now is with FF7 Rebirth which worked great on windows with some studdering issues and a delay in loading textures but in linux, I cant even get past the sharers page. Is there a command I could use to look for the reason why its crashing so I can get some help with this?

System:

Motherboard - ROG STRIX X570-E

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

RAM - 32Gb

GPU - Geforce RTX 3070

Hi ! Anyone tried the cracked version of the Battlefield 6 campaign on Linux distros ? I wanted to buy the game, but since they dont allow Linux users in their multiplayer, maybe the cracked campaign is working somehow? I dont want to install win11 just for this.

Hey, I’m trying to run Roblox Studio on Linux using Wine with a custom prefix and a custom folder. I’m on Nobara Linux, I have an Nvidia 4060, and I’m using Proton GE.

I installed Studio in my custom folder and tried logging in, but it opens the browser and the OAuth redirect never happens. I also tried using my .ROBLOSECURITY cookie in both RobloxStudio and RobloxStudioBrowser registry keys, but it didn’t work. Installing WebView2 didn’t help either.

I tried Vinegar too, but it crashes immediately.

At this point, I cannot log in to Studio on Linux Wine. Browser login links do not work and I haven’t found any workaround.

Does anyone know a way to run Roblox Studio on Linux even if it’s not Wine?

I use Fedora Linux.
I tested out Discord app, it works fine. Vesktop in the other hand doesn't. When I join vc, with people in it, it gets stuck on "DTLS connecting". I don't why this happens with discord clients only. Tested out with Goofcord but the same issue.

I've had a few problems with steam in that games wont launch in a variety of ways.

Things I have tried:

Some of the games I could get to launch with installing an alternative (Wine and Vulkan) to Directx11 and using Proton 7 in the compability setting as I saw that DirectX 11 can cause some problems if your pc is too old to launch the current version (or something like that, sorry Im a noob and having some problems translating some of the information into english)

Im not using the app store version

I also tried removing and reinstalling the nvidia drivers

I also saw a video that recommended removing a base file for the game you're trying to launch and then let steam look at the game files to repair the problem (with the idea behind this being that sometimes on ubuntu steam doesnt install games correctly). Also didnt work

Look Outside specifically:

So for Look outside specifically. It has a few different reactions based on what compability setting you're using. Usually it just does the classic of the button on steam changing from launching to running to stopping itself and going back to the green play button.

With proton experimental it at least very briefly opens a small black window before it closes again.

for the older versions of proton it stays launched, and I can see that game.exe is open in the system monitoring. But I cant see it, nothing opens.

Other Information:

I put my system information here in case it has something to do with that. But all of these were games I had no problems with before I changed to ubuntu. The same problems happen with a few games, Look Outside is just especially important to me since its my favourite game and a big update with a bunch of new content just dropped.

A new weird aspect of it is that earlier today I tried removing steam and start completely anew with sudo apt remove steam and it just didnt do anything. its still there I can still use it and launch some of the games as normal. But when I try to remove it via the terminal again it said theres nothing to remove. Weird!

I am only semi familiar with linux. I've played around with it a few times but always got a bit frustrated and went back to Windows and thought I'd try again in a year or so and let things smooth out. Well I had a issue with my Windows 10 gaming pc about a week ago. Knowing Win 10 is no longer supported, I thought Id try linux again. I've had Bazzite, I enjoyed the simplicity, but one day the OS wouldnt boot. Tried booting into OS tree 1 and nothing. Got frustrated and went back to Windows. Now I am trying Ubuntu again. I thought, this is one of the most popular linux distros and is supported pretty well across the board to my knowledge. Ok installed. Wiped Windows 10 completely. Installed steam. Steam overlay is laggy as hell while trying to play a test game of counterstrike 2. Google said probably a driver issue. I dont have a lot of experience with Terminal, I understand it and what it does, I just dont know commands. I tried downloading the drivers from AMD, thinking the package when opened would run a script or something to get what I need. Long story short, still problems. Now as of this morning, I believe I have the right drivers, loaded counterstrike, and still laggy af. Only now, trying to join a game I get kicked to the menu saying your client is not allowed on this server. I literally cant join a game. I love my steam deck, I really want to ditch Windows and go full linux. At least on my main PC. I have another setup basically for peripherals(VR, Sim Driving, etc.) But this has been incredibly frustrating. Does anyone have any tips? A guide? Dummys guide for doing windows like shit on linux? I just want to play some games when I get some free time man. And everytime I try, it just doesnt work.
