DayZ freezing after 10-30 seconds on official server
Hey there, I am experiencing freezes after joining server. Does someone know how to deal with it?
The game runs smooth but after 10 to 30 sec. the game freezes and i get kicked out with: Kicked from BattlEye (Client not responding) after a minute.
Yes proton BattlEye Runtime is installed and i used different versions of Proton (GE, Experimental, Hotfix and some classics)
OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
CPU: Intel 12400f
GPU: RX 7800XT
MB: Gigabyte B660
RAM: 32 GB DDR4

So, a little more info:
We started working on games quite some time ago but this is a first bigger release.
I'm a long time Linux user (trying hard to convert my brother), i used mostly Lubuntu but now use Kubuntu. I always wanted a desktop pet i could use on my main work PC, but there weren't any available for Linux that allowed uploading custom models and felt more like a tamagotchi of sorts than a simple desktop gimmick, i wanted to be able to interact (pet and feed) and play with the character, so i told my bro "let's make a desktop pet!" (he does the engine work in Godot, I do the visuals: animation, models etc. - for now, as i want to learn Godot).
A little more about the game itself:
It was made in Godot 4 and we actively work on it in our free time since we both use it.
You can upload your own .vrm models (vtuber standard) just drag and drop the file, pet, feed, hold hands, move the character on screen, sit on taskbar (height is adjustable in settings), spawn pillows that character can sit on (you can move them around), play minigames like mixing food and rock-paper-scissors, do self care exercises like breathing and focused work, change outfits and color them (characters too!) and set alarms!
Game adjusts itself procedurally to the uploaded models for maximum compatibility (colliders, reaching etc.)
There are 2 included characters, both can be RGB colored and can have their outfits switched.
We plan to add more minigames, interactions, exercises and features in general, maybe more characters?
We tested it on many distros and desktop environments, you can find the full list in the game's community page.

Are there any Nvidia friendly distros? I've had driver issues on multiple distros.
So I do not want to use Windows 11, so have been looking at Linux and just love the concept of it over Windows, or Mac. I care a lot about CUDA and RTX and frankly am not up for buying a new GPU right now. So, I have tried Zorin OS, Linux Mint and Kubuntu. The worst issues came from Zorin OS, which sucks because I really like the look of the distro. In Zorin OS no matter if I install the latest drivers, or even older drivers once I login my monitor stops working. I CAN play games after a clean Zorin OS install since it comes with Nvidia drivers, but I can't change my refresh rate and I'm locked into the drivers it installs with. On Linux Mint the drivers will actually install, but on the newest drivers I can't change my refresh rate. If I go to slightly older drivers, they install fine and I can change my refresh rate, but I can't use LACT because the "management library" is missing. On Kubuntu, the drivers work perfectly, but doing a driver update bricks my internet. I'm wondering if this might be an issue with Ubuntu, or Debian based distros. I have only used Ubuntu based distros, because I heard they are the most compatible with software.

Trackmania (2020) not properly registering mouse inputs
Whenever i launch trackmania via proton on steam i have to click on a button 2-5 times until it actually registers, everything works fine when menuing with my controller and it worked fine and when i was on mint, only getting this issue on arch and in this game, ive got a logitech g102 mouse that is otherwise perfectly servicable
using an asus TUF a15 laptop with an amd 6800hs and rtx 2050m

I have a Nvidia GPU and I am considering trying out linux. I know Nvidia doesnt work well with linux but are there any distros that do?
Battlefront 2 (2017) not launching with gamescope, is it because of the EA launcher?
I'm trying to use gamescope with Battlefront 2 (2017), because normally on Hyprland, if a match starts while the game is not focused, the audio glitches out. I thought gamescope would fix this issue, because with gamescope, the audio of the game doesn't cut out when the game loses focus.
I got gamescope working with other games, but with Battlefront 2, the game never launches. Here are the logs
This is the launch options I'm using in Steam:
gamescope -W 2560 -H 1600 -r 240 -f --force-grab-cursor -- offload %command%
(offload is just a wrapper that makes the game use the Nvidia GPU)
I assume it is supposed to work because Battlefront 2 does work on Steam Deck and Steam Deck uses gamescope, so I'd appreciate any help!
P.S I am using an older version of gamescope (3.16.4) because for some reason, the newer versions just don't work in Hyprland (as mentioned here). I've also had to patch it to use my integrated graphics instead of the Nvidia dGPU to fix the issue mentioned here.

Proton does not work on AntiX
Hello, I have an intel hd graphics 400 video card and a Linux AntiX operating system with 6.15.6.1 liquorix kernel. I wanted to run the game via proton (for the test I run Half Life 2 but I plan other games), on ge proton 9 and 10 does not run, even with the old dxvk and with running through wined3d, on the old original proton 5 with wined3d the game ran but very long, with large freezes and 20 fps, ge proton old did not run stupidly long startup. I have Vulkan 1.2. Mesa has been updated to the latest version. (testing 25.0.7-2). Also tried to bind dxvk dll via protontricks that didn't help either. What can you recommend for fixing the Proton? (Other than replacing the video card).

Lossless scaling and gamescope command do not work
Hello, I tried lossless scaling on CachyOS and the GameScope downsampling command together, but the game won't start. What am I doing wrong?

Battle.net through Steam
I installed Battle.net as a Non-Steam game and it worked, the launcher opened and I could connect and even install a game. But I can't seem to open the launcher anymore, I changed the target to battle.net.exe and battle.net launcher.exe, but neither worked.
I'm using Pop-OS and Proton 10.

HOTAS not detected in ArmA3
Hello, Im having the following problem.
Im trying to use the t16000m Hotas in ArmA3. I've looked everywhere online, i've set all the udev rules. The Hotas is visible natively and it works fine. All axis are detected and everything is correct.
Steam input is disabled. ArmA3 uses DirectInput.
When I try to detect it from inside proton or wine... nothing.
Bear in mind, my PS4 controller gets detected and is visible from within proton/wine.
What am I supposed to do?

Is there a way to prevent UMU from creating the ~/Games/umu directory when using GE-Proton with Lutris?
i have my games stored in ~/"g"ames and seeing ~/"G"ames does not look good.
Maybe a environment variable that i can use to point umu to create its directory in ~/"g"ames?

Elgato 4K X 5Gbps -> 10Gbps link fix
So I had this obscure problem with Elgato 4K X not connecting to my 20Gbps USB-C port in 10Gbps mode. Hence, I wasn't able to actually stream/record gameplay from PS5/XBox Series X/Switch and other devices I own in Y/UV 4:2:0 4k/60Hz and had to use MJPEG which adds extra latency and crushes colors a bit.
I’ve solved it as follows:
1 — Force the card into USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gb/s) with Capture Device Utility Host: macOS 14.4 (Sonoma) Tool: Capture Device Utility 1.3.1- Plug the 4K X into the Mac.
- Launch Capture Device Utility → select the card.
- Hold Option (⌥) / Alt – an extra toggle appears.
- Enable USB Gen 2.
- Disconnect the card.
If you skip these steps, the device stays in 5 Gb/s mode even after updating the firmware.
2 — Verify 10 Gb/s on Linux lsusb -tExpected (note the 10000M lanes):

That’s it: once the link reports 10 Gb/s, the 4K X has enough bandwidth for Y/UV 4:2:0 4K/60 captures.
If anyone more knowledgeable comes here -- is there anything we can do on Linux side to set this 10Gbps flag instead of having to use Mac? Do I need to research how to send USB ctrl transfer packets? Possible to figure it out on my own?

It goes away if I switch to MJPEG and/or lower resolution to 1080p. Seems like USB link saturation? usbtop indeed shows 800-950MB/s with 4K60 4:2:0 stream, which is very close to practical limits. I'm also thinking it might be due to my Proxmox/Arch setup or maybe my Ryzen 8500G isn't fast enough (OBS capture only seem to load one core at around 50%)
You can observe these popping artifacts at first 20 seconds of this stream. The only solution I came up with is to use something like HDMI-splitter to extract audio -> send it over my USB Audio interface (Behringer 404HD) -> route into OBS.

SFG OS Follow-up
Hello everyone! I posted here around 3 months ago about my package manager and Linux distro. I wanted to talk a little bit about it because I have restarted the distro portion of the project. I was very close to finishing the first GUI/DE part of the distro but I completely restarted. Since that post, I've made some significant advancements across the project! For Starpack, I've completely switched to zstd compression, which has proven incredibly efficient for size and speed (thanks for the recommendations BigHeadTonyT and others.) I've also significantly sped up parsing and saving operations by utilizing SQLite, and crucially, I've lowered the dependency count considerably by moving away from libcurl.
Beyond Starpack, the core of SFGOS is evolving rapidly. I've created ~63 custom coreutils based off of BSDCoreUtils to replace the GNU ones, and I'm thrilled to announce that their source code will be going live very soon, most likely when I wake up later. To further enhance performance and reduce bloat, I'm making a strategic switch to musl libc. And on the shell front, I've developed my own custom shell called ReefSH, whose source code will also be released in just a few days! (after ironing out a few more bugs) Despite restarting the distro's development, I have made a lot of advancements to the software and distro itself.
The custom components like Pulse Desktop and the graphical setup assistant are still key parts of the roadmap, and I'm very excited about the progress on the core tooling. I am also switching away from systemd, as it is extremely bloated and huge. I will maybe use openrc or make a custom init system, we will see what the future holds.
I know this might not be really within the typical scope of a Linux gaming discussion, but I wanted to provide an update on the underlying development that will ultimately benefit SFGOS's performance as a gaming-centric distro. Your feedback, questions, and ideas are incredibly valuable as I continue this journey. Please remember that I am one person, that rarely has friends help out with code (except on reefsh and the coreutils), so I can NOT do everything correctly, for example, my code is not perfect at all. But I have stayed up entire nights to ensure I tried my best. If you wish to help out with the code, I would genuinely appreciate it.
