ProtonDB.com for non-steam games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Aug 2024 - 2:46pm

For the 3rd or 4th time, I'm gonna try making the switch full-time to Linux. The last time I had to switch back, it had to do more with issues with Remmina not supporting smartcard passthrough than anything performance-wise. Now that that requirement is no longer an issue for me, the road forward is looking pretty good.

But it got me thinking: while a vast majority of my game library is on Steam, there are some games that aren't. Of those games, most have either a native linux version, or the community has come up with some way to encapsulate/Bottle it and make it run on Linux. In theory, for everything else there's Mastercard Proton. Which then led to the obvious question - is there a version of Protondb.com that tracks non-steam games?

Counterstrike 2 on T14 G2 (AMD)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Aug 2024 - 12:53pm

Hi there,

I have a really bad experience with CS2 and my "new" T14 Gen 2 with Ryzen 5. It's worse than with the Steam Deck, even on 1280x720 on lowest settings. IMO ith should be better, just because the 5x-Series Ryzen performs better in benchmarks than the 3x-Series in the Deck.

How is this even possible? Is this just a Linux related issue? Am I missing some optimizations (besides -nojoy)?

I know there are some threads out there, but non of them with integrated AMD iGPU (AFAIK).

It runs vanilla Fedora 40 WS at this moment.

Minecraft server on Linux taking a long time to save chunks.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Aug 2024 - 11:48am

I'm trying to run a minecraft server on linux and have everything working (completely vanilla btw) but am running into a weird problem on linux that I never experience on windows doing the same thing on the same system.

Basically when I use the /stop command in the terminal to shut down the server it takes an absurdly long time to save the chunks, like it's slow when no ones even been into the server and if someone has it just never seems to get past "saving chunks for level 'ServerLevel[world]'/minecraft:overworld". Whats especially weird is that if I force close the process or restart the pc before it completes the world seems like it was saved find upon reloading.

Has anyone had this issue before or know why linux specifically seems to cause it? Or have any experience running minecraft servers on linux?

System specs:

  • The server is located on the desktop (/home is an Ext4 partition) and is for minecraft 1.21.1

  • it's launched from a .sh file with the command:

#!/bin/sh

java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar server.jar nogui

  • Here's a log for when the server is force closed when it pauses on Saving chunks for level 'ServerLevel[world]'/minecraft:overworld

  • Something strange I've found is that the server won't start for a while after I force close it and the log for when it attempts to start says "already locked (possibly by other Minecraft instance?)". Maybe I'm not force closing it properly and it's still running? I'm a bit new to linux so not sure. I'm using htop to force close the terminal that's running it.

Would appreciate any help and please ask for additional details if you want. Cheers!

How do you get VRR working over DP alt mode with AMDGPU and Wayland on KDE Plasma?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Aug 2024 - 10:43am

Got myself a mini PC with a Ryzen 7840HS APU (Beelink SER7) and to get 4k 120hz on Linux obviously I need to use displayport, especially if I want HDR/VRR. My TV (LG C1) doesn’t have a DP port so I got a USB-C to HDMI 2.1 cable from UGREEN, certified for VRR/ALLM. I can get 4k 120bz working with HDR but the adaptive sync option is missing from my Plasma settings and very obviously doesn’t work. VRR/G-Sync/AMD FreeSync is enabled on the TV.

And yes I ensured the greeter uses Wayland rather than Xorg.

I’m on Arch. Wayland, KDE Plasma, SDDM. Followed the instructions on the Arch wiki to no avail.

Any ideas?

Is it time for me to get a new HDD ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Aug 2024 - 9:07am

I've been downloading FFXV, which is ~88gb, for the past 20 hours and it's been CRAWLING. I've haven't had any issues with my HDD until now, and I downloaded this game before with no issues. I uninstalled to make space and now it's been extremely slow.

Now I'm not sure if this a Wayland moment, I doubt it. I'm still not very experienced with Linux but maybe it could be ? I'm not entirely sure.

Nothing has been giving me troubles until redownloading FFXV. What's your advice, beautiful reddit community ?

A Hat in Time Crashing issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22 Aug 2024 - 8:35am

Often when loading an act the game will crash, usually when leaving a big act such as nyakuza metro and entering any other act. This happens pretty much every single time.

I will note that this does not occur if I play the game on Port Proton but that has its own issue where port proton crashes when obs and a hat in time are open at the same time so unless anyone has a solution for that, I need to fix it for the latest version of steam.

I am also not experiencing any crashing issues on any other game.

For those who don't know, a hat in time has a Gold protondb rating, is verified on steam deck, and I've not seen this issue (at least in the varient I have it) anywhere else nor on any other device I've tried Linux on.
