Batman Arkham serie

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 Oct 2024 - 10:26am

Hi,
Just finished Arkham Asylum, I quite enjoyed the gameplay and the story and I'm considering buying the other episodes on Steam. The thing that is making me doubt is the amount of crashes and issues that I experienced in Arkham Asylum : game not starting (fixed with ProtonUPQT, Proton GE), visual C++ crashes (posted this a month ago) and also random occurrences where the game just closes. Pretty anoying since it takes you out of the game regularly.
In protonDB the game and the others in the serie are classified as Gold, so they should be working as good.
Do you know if the next episodes are working a bit better than Arkham ?

Thanks for your help

Best online multiplier games for Linux in 2024 (And the future)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 Oct 2024 - 9:40am

Besides the games published by Valve, any online multiplier games (preferably free to play) that work on Linux, and will likely continue to work in the future? I don't want to invest in a game, only for the devs to suddenly introduce an anti-cheat that will completely ruin compatibility with Linux.

Mouse cursor issue on Wayland

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 Oct 2024 - 9:33am

Hello, I have the Bazzite Linux distribution with the GNOME desktop environment (bazzite-gnome:stable) on my dual-monitor setup. I had been using an X11 session, but with the release of Bazzite 41 yesterday, I switched to Wayland (mainly because X11 is no longer available). My experience with Wayland so far has been good, but I have one strange issue in games (tested mainly with Hunt: Showdown and Counter-Strike 2). When I switch to another application using Alt+Tab, or sometimes when I press only Tab, then return to the game and try to look around, my view gets stuck, and the mouse cursor appears on my second screen. When I move the cursor back to my first screen, I can look around, but if I try to rotate too far, the cursor again appears on my second screen, causing the same issue. This problem did not occur when I was using an X11 session, and I have a recent AMD GPU if that information helps. I wanted to ask if there is any setting or tweak I could use to fix this issue because it is very frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help!

Barebone Linux for World of Warcraft.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 Oct 2024 - 9:18am

He folks i want to build a OS with linux kernel that can launch the Battlenet app and runs World of Warcraft.

I want to deepen my knowledge about Linux, I have Debian running on all my PC's with heavily customized interfaces. Now I want to know more about it and start with a Linux kernel as a base and only the most necessary to play WoW, it doesn't have to be finished overnight, I want to enjoy the project rather than the result.

can you help me get started and recommend some reading and show me what I should research?

a few keywords that i can enter into google.

What I am currently imagining how something like this works.

  1. put the kernel on the disk.

  2. libraries on the disk.

  3. “Install” wine on the computer

  4. integrate battle.net.

  5. download World of Warcraft and start the game.

I want to make it as bare as possible, on boot only the Battlenet app should be displayed, I don't need a CLI or a desktop, it should really only provide the minimum of necessities.

I would like to run the administration via another operating system. via ssh or something comparable.

this is my given Setup::

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5500

Mainboard: Gigabyte B450M H

Ram: 16 GB Noname Ram

Graphics card: MSI Nvidea 1080TI

Disks: Samsung 970 EVO NVMe™ M.2 SSD 1TB

Western Digital WD10EARS Caviar Green 1TB

I would be happy to discuss this topic. I would be happy to hear any concerns, ideas or people who would like to help me.

Wayland input lag with full screen tearing adaptive sync vs no adaptive sync.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 Oct 2024 - 8:37am

Kde plasma has an option to allow tearing in full screen windows. My question is, does adaptive sync create more input lag when tearing is disabled or decrease input lag. I assume it has to do with frame rate being above or below your monitors refresh rate but I am looking for a second opinion because I can't tell very well based on feel alone. My guess is that no VRR and full screen tearing is the least input lag you can have on wayland as long as the frame rate is higher than the monitor, but this is assuming that screen tearing is actually still happening on full screen windows.

Sudden performance issues in Arch (Anything with 3D acceleration)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30 Oct 2024 - 7:51am

Hey all! I was playing some games earlier and randomly came across an issue, I genuinely don't know what could have caused it (otherwise I would've fixed it by now), but any 3D app (native, or through wine/proton) has SEVERE framerate issues, I have never seen it go above 20fps, there's also an insanely consistent tear directly in the center of the screen.

The effect can be seen running Vulkan natively, openGL natively, and d3dVulkan through proton, it seems to be unrelated to the graphics API being used.

I've tried just about everything, removing and reinstalling drivers, reverting to older drivers, reverting to an older kernel, reinstalling all dependencies, searching forums, checking my kernel arguments in grub, absolutely everything you can think of.

I use hyprland, which may seem like it could be part of the problem at first glance, but absolutely nothing has changed that would cause my performance to drop this severely.

~Specs+OS~

OS - Arch Linux CPU - Ryzen 5 3600 GPU - RTX 3060ti ram - 16gb 3200mhz SSD - samsung 870 evo DE - hyprland Drivers - 560.35.03-open-dkms Display - 1080p Kernel - Arch 6.10.10-arch1-1 x86_64

My specs are mid range, but nothing that would warrant the kind of performance I'm suddenly getting.
