Opera GX gaming web browser comes to Linux
Opera GX has officially landed on Linux, bringing its gamer-focused browser experience to Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE-based systems. The browser includes GX Control for limiting RAM and network usage, a Hot Tabs Killer to shut down resource-heavy tabs, and built-in sidebar integrations for Discord and Twitch. Opera says this is not just a one-off port, but a long-term effort with ongoing updates and community engagement.
Still, the bigger question is whether Linux users actually want this kind of browser. Many in the Linux community already prefer open-source options like Firefox or Chromium, and may be skeptical of Opera’s privacy claims despite its built-in ad blocker and audited zero-log VPN. While Opera GX leans heavily into customization and gamer aesthetics, that approach may not resonate with users who value simplicity, transparency, and control over flashy features.

What Playstation 2 Controller Adapter works Best Out Of The Box??
I just ordered some adapters (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Q1TJDZM) for my old (OEM) PS2 controllers, and haven't been able to get them to work. When just the adapter is plugged in, they're visible under lsusb as
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 2563:0526 ShenZhen ShanWan Technology Co., Ltd. Android Gamepad
However, when you plug in the controller, it's no longer listed, and dmesg shows constant disconnects/reconnects, which I think is a firmware issue with the adapter:

Fitgirl Installer Gets Stuck
(CachyOS)
I am trying to install a game through Lutris/Heroic and first faced the issue of "error 5 access is denied", I fixed it by changing install paths to a game folder i created on my home drive, but now the installer hangs at .3 percent.
I assume this issue is bc i changed install paths, but i do not know how to resolve the access is denied issue.

Linux [CachyOS / Hyprland] problem with needed resolution
The People Behind the Preservation: Interviewing the ZOOM Platform Team [article/interview]
Interesting long interview with the people behind ZOOM. I'd not heard much on this site before, the games aren't really my cup of tea because they're aimed a bit older. But I like that they're dedicated to DRM-free gaming like GOG is for the PC.
Does anyone here use ZOOM?
Not my article, I just found it this morning while checking a site:

Rock of Ages 2 crashing instantly, no log
Hello, I've bought the game on steam sale and wanted to play it right away but it instantly crashes. I've tried different Proton versions but neither works, the best I got was 5 seconds and it crashes again.
My setup:
OS: EndeavourOS x86_64
Kernel: Linux 6.19.8-zen1-1-zen
DE: KDE Plasma 6.6.3 wayland
CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700KF (20) @ 5.00 GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE
Memory: 31.17 GiB
Has anybody experienced this issue and found a fix? Thanks a lot.

CachyOS - Is there a way to force Nvidia GPU system wide?
I'm still pretty new to Linux, and for the most part, I'm loving CachyOS.
I'm hoping there is some way to just tell my system to use my GPU for all things graphics, and even though I've disabled the iGPU in the BIOS, some games/applications still use my CPU minus it being enabled.
MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=list vulkaninfo selectable devices: GPU 0: 10de:2b85 "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090" discrete GPU 0000:01:00.0I'm seeing my GPU as the only option here, but for some reason that's not enough for the system to default to it? This is an issue every time I update my system and it's tiresome to try and figure it out for something that should be able to be detected by the system.

The Crew Motorfest GPU Lost on Hyprland (Nvidia)
So, I was playing TCM just fine on KDE but decided I wanted to try end-4 dotfiles on Hyprland.
They're absolutely beautiful and navigating the system is wonderful... but The Crew Motorfest stopped working.
I can get into the game, but a couple of seconds or minutes later I get a "GPU LOST" error, no other Ubisoft games do this.
I read the logs and they aren't very helpful. Nothing in there points to anything specific, pls help. I was loving this game.

Nacon Pro Compact controller for Xbox USB controller not getting picked up.
This is a problem that I have had since 2023 when I tried to connect my Nacon controller to my steam deck. When I connect it to Windows, a white LED above the home button lights up, but in linux, there is nothing. I recently tried to get it running with my main pc, on which I have been running LMDE for about 2 months now and it has the same problem.
I even tested whether evtest picks it up, but nothing. Is far as I see it, my pc does not know that the controller even exists. Does someone know what to do here?

Bizarre Death Stranding 2 issue
Tried to play DS2 on Arch and for some reason my game is hard capped to 35fps. I’ve tried a bunch of suggested launch options and I’ve tried multiple proton versions, none of them have fixed my issue. I haven’t seen anyone else report the same issue. I’ve never had this issue on any other game either. Changing graphics settings and vsync settings don’t affect the fps whatsoever, it doesn’t go above 35 unless I put on frame gen and then it locks to a messy looking 60. Tried turning fsr on and off as well. Tried full screen and windowed modes.
Running a 7700XT and a Ryzen 7 5700X3D.
edit: Just to add, I’ve tried the game on windows and it runs flawlessly. But I’d rather play it on linux if I can fix it

What's the verdict on the latest Nvidia drivers solving the Linux performance penalty?
I'm on an RTX 2070 and I've been struggling to get good performance on Space Marine 2, an extra ten to fifteen percent performance would make all the difference.

I've been having a miserable experience trying to game on Linux Mint
I decided to dual boot Linux Mint to see if I could eventually move away from Windows entirely and just use a Linux distro instead. So far, the answer is no.
I can use it for almost anything, but gaming. I installed the recommended Nvidia drivers, I turned on Proton Experimental, but the one game I've been constantly testing, which is Deltarune keeps crashing. I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it, but nothing works. At a random interval it just freezes and all I can do is restart and hope to god it doesn't happen again, which it always inevitably does.
Streaming on Diacord is quite literally impossible, there's no point in even trying that. Just cause any Steam game to freeze immediately.
I tried running Minecraft because it's a game coded in Java so it should work perfectly right? Every time I go into the options my game drops to 20 fps... only in options, nowhere else.
I knew I'd have to do SOME tinkering with my system to make most of this stuff work, but its been 2 weeks and at this point and I'm still running into issues I thought I had fixes.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I don't know. If you have any suggestions, tell me I suppose

I need help from a dual-booting penguin who has an RTX 5070/80/90, and will happily repay the favor...
(I messaged a mod to make sure this was kosher ~6 hours ago and am still waiting on a response. If this kind of post is frowned upon, please let me know and I'll remove it.)
I purchased a new 5000-series nVidia GPU recently and it qualifies for a free copy of Resident Evil: Requiem. Unfortunately, to redeem it, I need to have the nVidia App (which only runs on Windows). I haven't dual-booted in over a decade, and buying a copy of Windows just to be able to get the free game doesn't make much sense, so I'd like to ask the community here for a volunteer. Upon selection, I'll give you the redemption code to put into the nVidia App, you'll pass the Steam key it gives you back to me, then I'll purchase a game of your choosing up to $10 in value (either on Steam, in which case I'll gift it directly to your account, or on a site like Fanatical, GameBillet, etc., and give you the key -- wherever the game is cheaper).
To qualify, you just need to 1) have a 5070 or higher nVidia GPU on a computer that has Windows installed (virtual machines won't cut it), 2) comment in this thread, and 3) have at least one comment or post in this subreddit in the last 60 days.
Good luck, have fun, and thanks for being willing to help me out! :)
