Dual Thrustmaster T16000M, Elite Dangerous, CachyOS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Jul 2025 - 8:38pm

I switched to Linux on my home / gaming PC some time ago and overall, I'm having a great experience. Recently, looking at two T16000M collecting dust on my desk, I installed Elite Dangerous - Heroic Launcher, currently Proton Experimental. CachyOS.

The good news is that the joysticks work. Both are detected and I can see them in Game Controller - System Settings as: /dev/input/event6 and /dev/input/event8

The bad news is that whereas in Windows they were very responsive, in Linux I have to move each stick quite a lot to get some outcome and when the ship reacts, it reacts a lot. So when I could previously dance around anything, now it's like trying to move a palette of bricks around. I'm able to take off and land in a smaller ship, but I'm afraid to switch to anything big and heavy, because there's no way I'm going to be able to go through a mail slot like this. Looking at E:D controls settings, I can see that deadzone slider for all joystick axes is greyed out and slid all the way to the left.

Any ideas how to make it more responsive? Under Windows I could play with some external software (TARGET or other software for adjusting software curves), but I can't find anything similar for Linux. So I'm guessing there has to be some other solution.

Issue with one port on M-Audio M-Track Duo but only on linux on obs

Issue with one port on M-Audio M-Track Duo but only on linux

One port cuts in and out with crackles but only on linux - both ports work fine on windows.

EDIT: It's whichever microphone is pushed to the right to avoid doubling.

One port works fine on linux fedora 42 but the other cuts in and out.

EDIT: Both work fine on Audacity - it is definitely an obs issue on linux

Anyone have any ideas? I thought about using two usb audio interfaces, but I've heard that won't work correctly.

Linux steering wheel question (logitech wheels/emulated logitech wheel through GIMX)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Jul 2025 - 7:37pm

Hey guys, i'm aware that linux driver support for logitech wheels is generally pretty solid all things considered.

what i wanted to know though, is if the games themselves get to recognize the wheel as the logitech wheel?

i mean in the sense that some (usually older) racing games have very limited wheel support and basically exclusively support/detect/register input from logitech wheels and have no way to rebind any other wheel input device to work. I'm not sure if this works through linux/proton/wine?

would certainly be nice to be able to simrace on my main linux install instead of constantly having to switch between win11 (which also just doesn't really support the G27 i'm emulating through GIMX without turning off protection layers)

Anyone play Sea of Thieves on Linux? Quick question about login on MS account showing up

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Jul 2025 - 7:28pm

If you've played SoT on Linux. Did you notice a Chrome login on Windows show up on your MS account?

I don't use Chrome and haven't had Windows installed in 2 weeks. I see two connections on my MS account though on July 18 and July 19. These the logins from signing in via Proton on Steam? I think i did login to SoT both of those days. Steam said SoT was last played on the 19th and i do remember signing into my MS account the day before on SoT as well. I see the browser Steam uses is based on Chrome. It just freaked me out a bit seeing those two logins, even though they are from my IP. I changed my password and opened SoT again, this time my email was already saved and ready to sign and just asked for a password. I went back onto my MS account to check, but a login from Windows and Chrome didn't show up this time. So it's weird. I don't know if it only does it on first login after picking the Proton version or what (I did login on two different Proton versions).

Sudden FPS drops

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Jul 2025 - 7:25pm

Since I switched over from Windows to Linux Mint, I experience sudden FPS drops from time to time. Happens in Overwatch for instance. Usually I am around 180/190 FPS (what I would get on Windows too), but occasionally it drops to somewhere in the 40s. Takes a few minutes to get back to the normal value.

What could be the cause of this?

On Steam of oftentimes have to Vulcan Shaders at the start of the game, which takes ages. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.

Is this normal?
