Do you remember Piper? Well I made a new one
So, sometime ago after I was fired from my previous job I was messing around trying to port Piper to GTK4, however there were some constraints that annoyed me. Specially with Cambalache, which was the tool I was using for the UI. So I decided to experiment and, looking at the current design trends that a lot of software is following, I decided to rewrite the whole frontend for libratbag from scratch. I chose Tauri + Svelte for the new stack, specially since I'm also moving from Python to improve myself in Rust, which Tauri's backend side gave me a practical excuse to do. I called the app Twister, keeping the rodent naming thread that libratbag and Piper previously had going.
Svelte is pretty straightforward if you have some experience in webdev, and it made my development significantly easier. The project that began at the end of last year very very very slowly went so fast that I feel finally comfortable sharing it with you guys.
Being a Tauri application it does not follow server-side decorations (It pains me since I'm a GNOME simp) but the WebView layer makes that boundary hard to cross without abandoning the stack entirely, so it was a deliberate compromise in exchange for getting a modern-looking app that behaves like most of the better aspects of Windows configuration tools do. The mouse visual representations are currently borrowed from Piper's assets under their original license. It does have some rough edges, specially around the light theme and those visuals, and I'm looking to improve both in the near future.
Right now it is English only, however I'll begin adding localization to Portuguese and Italian in the next two weeks and I genuinely welcome contributions, specially since I'm focused on trying to get a job and the time I had is being gradually swallowed up by exhaustion in side jobs. Hopefully ya'll will like it. Any feedback is welcome.

Faugus Launcher JSON error when creating prefixes (can’t create or detect prefixes)
Hey guys,
I’m having a weird issue with Faugus Launcher on Linux and I’m stuck.
The launcher opens normally, but when I try to create a prefix (or detect existing ones), it fails. Nothing gets created and existing prefixes don’t show up.
When I run it through the terminal, I get this error:
Error reading the JSON file: Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0) Traceback (most recent call last): File "/app/bin/faugus-launcher", line 2253, in on_dialog_response games = json.load(f) ... json.decoder.JSONDecodeError: Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)Hey guys,I’m having a weird issue with Faugus Launcher on Linux and I’m stuck. The launcher opens normally, but when I try to create a prefix (or detect existing ones), it fails. Discord + other Audio = bad quality/low bitrate?
Hi, I‘m relatively new to Linux and wondered why the quality of my Discord audio worsens, when I let other audio inputs play, like Spotify or when I played Osu!
My OS is Arch, I use PipeWire for audio and bluetooth headphones.
Thanks in advance, because I couldn‘t find others with similar issues.

I added SFTP transfers to my game save backup tool!
Following up on my previous posts (post 1 | post 2)
What's new:
- Remote save transfer over SFTP with upload and download support (with a filezilla style UI)
- Delete backup & Open Path to game save folder buttons
- Async save detection with refresh button
- A lot of code refactoring to improve maintainability
The SFTP feature lets you transfer saves between machines without relying on a launcher's built-in cloud sync, you can transfer your saves to anywhere now!
useful if you play the same game on multiple Linux or Windows setups. Does require SSH to be enabled of course.

cant use hotkeys on obs while gaming
6.19.7-1-cachyos
kde plasma
im well aware that wayland doesnt let key presses be registered outside of the focused application, which made it so obs doesnt ever get the hotkeys i pressed for save replay, i used to use QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb obs to fix that, and it worked great, but after an update it just stopped working, now i cant open obs in x11, even with the command, obs opens but it is in wayland.

What's the Linux equivalent to Nvidia control panel vsync on/gsync on setup?
This is a very simple setup on Windows that's basically the ideal way to have everything set up in 99% of the cases. On Linux, CachyOS in particular, I'm finding so much conflicting information and there doesn't seem to be a consensus on any combination of options for this.
I've found a post claiming that forcing native wayland (I'm assuming by checking the box in Heroic launcher or adding PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 in Steam) and enabling vulkan mailbox settings in Goverlay enables vsync system-wide, but this isn't the case and the vsync doesn't get forced on. Based on every combination of these settings and a few others I've found online, nothing actually forces vsync on in any game if in-game vsync is off, and the frames are uncapped without a cap.
Is there a way to enable vsync system-wide like you can with NVCP on Windows? Is that the ideal way of having Gsync/VRR working properly along with a framecap below native? Does the screen tearing option need to be unchecked in display config on the desktop? I don't know if I'm missing something obvious because this particular setup seems needlessly complex compared to Windows.

9070xt ray tracing not working?
Death Stranding 2 doesn't recognize my system as having support for RT, Crimson Desert crashes. DOOM Dark ages opens, but crashes before anything is actually rendered. I've tried updating my vkd3d dlls to the latest on github, but I can't get RT to work in ANY game. I'm starting to think it's my OS. Debian 13. Do I need to backport anything?

I want to give linux another go.
Was about to give windows a fresh install and figured fuck it I haven't tried linux in 5yrs, might as well see how it's doing again. Everybody loves to shit on windows, but objectively, everytime I give a new distro a try, I'm problem solving shit/games I otherwise would never have to. I never have the problems people love to complain about with Windows, shit just works, so I expect at least that much on Linux. Sometimes I think people just don't have an opinion of their own or have themselves to blame.
Anyway, blah blah blah, which distros are going to have all windows games working perfectly out of the box with no trouble shooting and better fps? I'm on a laptop if that matters.

60 FPS but Stuttering in Linux Mint - Fix
Just a quick setting change that massively improved my experience. I have a fresh Mint installation, and it felt like all of my Steam games were stuttering, despite having a perfect 60 fps, CPU, GPU, and RAM being at half load.
I went to System Settings -> General -> Disable Compositing for Fullscreen Windows. you want to make sure it is checked on. Ghosts of Tsushima is now immediately a perfect experience, and Elden Ring is almost playable.

XPADNEO options
ChachyOS user here.
Just wanted to ask a question regarding xpadneo since it's hard to find any specific answers. I have an Xbox series X controller and it connects just fine (albeit with the occasional input drop but it's manageable) but for some reason steam registers it as an Xbox 360 controller, and I think it's driver related. Is there any way to change the Xpadneo settings to make it to series X or Xbox one instead? Mainly asking because I use my PC as a console as it's hooked up to my PC and I use steam big picture, and can't use the quick access menu when the controller thinks it's a 360 controller.

Hunt: Showdown freezes entire display (audio + Discord still working) - NVIDIA Xid 32
I’m honestly starting to feel like I’m going crazy with this issue.
A few months ago I could play Hunt: Showdown without any problems on Linux, but now I get full display freezes almost every match.
What happens:- Both monitors completely freeze (image stuck)
- Game audio continues normally
- Discord keeps working (I can hear and talk to people)
- After a few seconds I have to alt-tab and kill the game
- Happens almost every round
While gaming temps are fine (<70°C CPU & GPU). I capped the fps to 144 and I'm playing on low settings. Additionally, I don't encounter this problem in any other game.
System:- OS: Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS (also tested Pop!_OS 24.04 -> same issue)
- Kernel: 6.8.0-106-generic
- Display server: X11
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X
- GPU: RTX 3080
- Nvidia Drivers tested:
- 565.57.01
- 570.211.01
- 580.105.08
- Proton versions tested:
- GE-Proton10-33
- Proton Hotfix
- Proton Experimental
- Proton 9.0-4

Death Stranding 2 performance issues
Hello everyone!
I started playing Death Stranding 2 and faced some performance issues.
My avg FPS is aprox 60, but 1% like 30. And I have not so bad PC. My specs are:
- AMD Ryzen 7600x
- AMD Radeon 9070xt
- 32 GB RAM CL32, 6000 MHz
- SSD
I am using Arch Linux, Mesa 1.26.0.3, ProtonGE-10-33.
I've tried Proton 10.4, Proton Hotfix and Proton Experimental - same performance.
Maybe somebody already faced these issues or maybe the game just heavily CPU bound and my CPU is not enough.
Thank you!
