Anyone tried DLSS 3 FG on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 11:11am

With FG being added to the recent update to Proton Experimental after NVidia submitted patches last monthish. I've been waiting to see if it works. Tried it with Cyberpunk last night. The FG options for DLSS are now enabled. Ran the benchmark tool. Seems to be working. On my 4080 with a 5800X3D. Full PT with ray reconstruction even at 1080P is very heavy I'm lucky to see 30fps. FG running at Performance mode sees lows of 51fps high of 71fps. So FG is definately working. Not sure if it's parity with Windows but it's working I've not done a huge amount of testing. But with tuned 'normal' RT settings and DLSS3 I was able to hit 109fps ave highs of 122fps. With DLSS FG off that was sat at around 60-70fps.

Finals often maxing out at 30 watt GPU usage

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 8:08am

As the title suggests, the finals game sometimes only uses 30 watts from the max of 110 watts of my 4060 mobile gpu. Leading to horrible performance, this seems to be a problem in both the flatpak and Fedora rpm varient of steam. The only way I found to mitigate it using only 30 watts is by restarting and immediately opening the game when the game runs perfectly. Another thing I noticed I am not sure if it's relevant here is when the game does work properly in nvidia SMI the power profile is maxing at 96 watts and when it isn't working properly the profile says 110 watts.

WoW weird clicking problem

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 6:27am

Hey guys, I'm recently installed ubuntu on my laptop because i can't stand windows 11, and maybe I should have just went with 10, but I wanted to learn Linux being that I'm in school for cybersecurity..

I got wow installed through lutris, the installation went fine, the game opened and runs fine, except I'm running into a weird issue. Whenever I use the cursor to click on the screen, the music stops, and it's like i clicked on a separate window outside the game, and I cannot do anything on the game until I minimize it and bring it back up. When I bring it back up, the movement keys work, all my keybinds/movements work, but the second I click on it again, everything just goes back to acting like I clicked on a different window. Any suggestions?

How to import save files in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 5:26am

If you want to the steps just skip this para. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered doesn't import the original versions saves in steam linux without tinkering because both the games have a different proton prefix. Hence the data needs to be transferred from one proton prefix to another.

Note: I had both games installed when doing this.

Step 1: Install and Open Protontricks Step 2: Make note of the numeric ID of both Horizon Zero Dawn and the Remaster Step 3: run the following command in terminal for both games. find ~ -name "[INSERT THE ID]" | grep -i "compatdata"

The paths you're seeing are the location of the the prefixes for both games

Step 4: Go to [PATH OBTAINED]/ofc/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents of the original game. Copy the Folder "Horizon Zero Dawn" Step 5: Go to equivalent path for the other game and paste it there.

Done. Now you should be able to load your old save game files in the new game just go to the imported saves section in the load game menu.

Having trouble launching SkyrimSE

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 4:18am

IDK if anyone else is getting this, but when I launch SkyrimSE from steam, it opens the launcher and I cant click anything, every time it responds as if I'm trying to move the window. Is there a way to bypass the launcher or fix it so it'll at least work? I'm running Mint and using Proton Experimental, so I've not yet tried GE. Would that help?

Edit: Update: I can get it to start if I just mash left click on the play button, but it then launches a bunch and I need to go alt+f4 the extra copies

Upgraded my cooler and now all games fail to launch??? wtf

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 1:56am

I recently switched from an air to liquid cooling and after booting back into my gnome environment all of the games I have installed via Proton with Heroic game launcher fail to launch. No issues launching games prior to changing the cooler and I have done both a cyberpunk and Ghost of Tsushima play-through before this issue started 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Here is the log for Red Dead Redemption. The error is the same no matter which game I try:

Sudden FPS Drop in Overwatch on Steam for Linux — Stable Performance on Lutris, but What's the Cause? — Finding a Solution

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15 Nov 2024 - 1:36am

For the past few days, when I play Overwatch, everything runs smoothly at first, but after about 3-4 matches, I start experiencing significant frame drops, going below 60 FPS. With my current settings, I previously managed a stable 120-60 FPS for about 4 months, but now, this issue has suddenly appeared. Any idea what might be causing it?

Here’s my setup: Fedora 40, i5-4570, 8GB DDR3 RAM, RX 7600 XT, running Overwatch with Proton Experimental. I’ve tried Proton GE Custom and an older version of Proton, but the issue persists. I also tested it on another OS, Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS. The game is installed on an NTFS NVMe drive, but for my tests, I also tried installing it on my home directory.

I’ve cleared the cache through Steam and manually removed cache files in the game folders, but it didn’t help. Recently, I also changed the thermal paste on my CPU, but temperatures are fine, peaking around 56°C/132F. I even set the BIOS to use only one monitor.

I also added various commands from the first two pages of SteamDB that other users recommended, but still no luck. Strangely, when I ran Battle-net through Lutris and reinstalled the game there, it worked perfectly—I was able to play for hours without any issues, just like it used to run on Steam before. Not only does it run better through Lutris, but I’m also not experiencing the muddy or distorted audio I used to get, even when it ran well on Steam.

Any ideas on what’s going on?

Suitable distro for local game streaming to a living room setup

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14 Nov 2024 - 11:21pm

Hello all,

I've searched the web and this sub for this, but did't find anything that addresses my specific needs, so decided to make a thread asking for help.

I have a desktop PC (5800X3D/4070 Super) on which I currently dual boot Mint 22 and Windows 10.

In my living room, I have a tiny PC (a Peladn Wi-7) which currently runs Mint 22. I want to use it as a local streaming client with Steam in Big Picture Mode. This is easy to set up and works well. However, I would also like the flexibility to be able to run RetroArch locally and stream my non-Steam games using Sunshine/Moonlight.

Ideally, after initial setup I'd like to be able to control the PC in much the same way as a console - with a controller. I'm willing to put up with on-screen keyboards as I'm old, and squinting at a desktop from 3 metres away gives me eye strain, even if I drop the desktop resolution to 1080p (I have an appointment at the opticians in a couple of weeks).

Bazzite seemed the logical choice, but the HTPC flavour doesn't support the Intel UHD graphics on the Alder Lake N100 CPU on the Wi-7.

I'm not wedded to Mint - I just already had the ISO when I got the Wi-7 and didn't want to sully myself with the preinstalled Windows 11.

I appreciate any guidance you can give.

(edit: typo)
