Geforce NOW on intel igpu?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 5:41pm

Hi people,

I have been trying all afternoon to get the steam deck version of GFN running properly on my laptop. By properly I mean with 4k120 unlocked as I have an ultimate subscription. I have seen scripts for nvidia and amd gpus, but did anyone manage to succesfully run this with intel?

I absolutely hate how difficult it is to get this all to work. Hopefully someone can help me out here!

Problems with drivers after installing new gpu (rtx 2080) on Arch linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 5:34pm

So, today i got this rtx 2080, and i was trying to use it on my desktop that used an rx 570.
I did not delete the amd drivers since i've red that it's not necessary.

I switched the gpus and installed the drivers, when i try to run a game it either freeze the entire pc or, in the case of terraria, runs at 20fps with glitches, i thought it was not using the nvidia drivers and maybe nouveau but if i use the command lsmod | grep nouveau it doesn't find anything. I'm pretty lost and i was thinking of just installing a new distro specifically for nvidia as a last resort.

I've been searching and trying any different guide/tutorial/blog but i can't seem to get it working, i have readed the arch wiki too of course (first place i used), i've been using linux for almost 2 years but honestly i'm still a noob...

How is your Experience with Expedition 33?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 5:03pm

So i first played the game Before switching to linux when it relaesed, i felt like replaying it cause of the new DLC but the performance already was pretty bad on Windows, now on Linux this is Native 1440p DLAA but with All low settings, on Higher i get less than 30Fps, no matter the proton Version,

I am on Cachy Os with a Rtx 4070 S and an Ryzen 7 5700x3d, Wich kind of leads me to expect more than this Performance

If anyone had this Problem or has an idea to solve it i would Love any help i could get,
And yes i already treid multiple Proton versions Including Ge and launch option Configurations from ProtonDB

How long does custom GE-Proton builds take to get merged to the main GE-Proton?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 4:47pm

I don't know if i asked the question right, but I hope it is understandable.

I am aware that much of the Eggroll GE-Proton build gets added to the main Proton worked by Steam and others. But does Eggroll take custom code from modded builds of their GE-Proton build and adds it to their build?
Anyone know if it happens often?

I don't know how to add custom Proton Builds, I use ProtonUp-QT tool to do that for me.

There is a game that has been broken since launch called "Le Mans Ultimate", it is a sim racing game.
The game would not even launch when it 1st came out but slowly over time, with updates to GE-Proton and Proton Experimental, one can now launch the game, enter menu and attempt to start a race, but it always crashes at 48% of loading the map and assets.

Someone was able to create a fix back in GE-Proton10-4, they have their custom build, and then more recently, a new build has been created to deal with peripherals causing the game to crash.

https://github.com/tristandruyen/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-4-LMU-fixbuild

https://github.com/JacKeTUs/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton10-25-LMU-hid_fixes

Would anyone know how long would such custom code get added to the main build? A few weeks, months?

What am I doing wrong?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 4:42pm

I switched o Linux to see if i can have some performance increase in some games, and i'm disappointed at the moment.

i know it is just some specific games, with specific hardware, but i have met the requirements.

i want to play Elden Ring on Linux. I tried in Linux Mint, and both the FPS and 1% low was less than Windows.

my hardware is:

RX560XT(an AMD GPU that i had bought on Aliexpress some years ago, it is part of RX470 series or RX560 series i'm not sure).

Xeon 2680v4(an server CPU adapted for Desktop)

32GB of RAM.

all the drivers are updated, i tried Proton GE and Experimental, and both of it was worse than Windows. is this normal? should i check something or i'm i missing something?

Bazzite : Massive stuttering at random when playing games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 3:55pm

Hi, I'm on Bazzite with the latest updates installed, including the nVidia drivers.

I'm experiencing massive stuttering at random when I play games like Starfield, Cyberpunk 2077 or even Abiotic Factor. This happens no matter what Proton / GE-Proton I use on Steam.

EDIT : Concerning Cyberpunk, I used Lutris because I own it on GoG and I also tried with Heroic Launcher and changed which Proton version is used on both).

Also, this happens randomly and by that I mean : it can happens while I'm playing the game or just after launching it and looking at the options in the menu (happened three times in Starfield and twice in Cyberpunk). The games stutter like hell, the framerate goes to O and it can lasts for a minute or three.

I have this problem with two nVidia GPUs : 3060 Ti & 5070.

Still trying to get my Mods to work for Baldur's Gate 3

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB [Discrete]
Memory: 6.16 GiB / 15.54 GiB (40%)

Some people might have seen my recent post, where I had problems with modding.

Today I am a few steps further along.

I now have the BG3ModManager installed via Proton and all my Mods are there. I even have the BG3 Script Extender .dll and the Settings.json in the game directory, but the manager doesn't acknowledge it. And wenn I download it via the Bg3MM it says that it worked, until I start the game, when the modsettings.lsx gets reset.

I read here:

https://github.com/LaughingLeader/BG3ModManager/issues/189#issuecomment-1866911606

that creating a symlink could help. So I looked up how to create a symlink.

and I learned that I need the command

ln -s /path/to/file /path/to/symlink

could be that my brain isn't braining anymore, but I don't know which files to link so that it works. Probably cause I don't know why it does not work in the first place.

Anyway I would be grateful, if someone could explain to me which files to link and if possible, why it didn't work before.

Best Regards

A linux noob

Gave CachyOS a shot for gaming after all the recommendations, but I’m hitting wall after wall.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 3:41pm

Hey everyone,

I decided to finally give CachyOS a try because I kept hearing how great it is for gaming. I’ve got it running in a dual-boot setup, but honestly, since the moment I installed it, it’s been nothing but headaches.

I’m not a total stranger to Arch—I’m coming from SteamOS and I’m pretty comfortable there. I’ve managed to get Java, Minecraft, and various Wine prefixes working on my Deck without much trouble. But on Cachy, I feel like I’m fighting the OS every step of the way.

Here are the main issues I'm dealing with:

  1. CoolerControl: This is the one I'm currently trying to troubleshoot. I finally got it to recognize my fans and RPM after following a few tutorials, but my settings seem to have zero effect. The fans just do whatever they want regardless of the curve I set.
  2. No Audio: I have a Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus. The system detects the card, so it’s "there," but it’s dead silent. I’ve messed with every setting in Pulse/Pipewire I can find, and nothing changes.
  3. Wine/General Stability: Unlike my experience with SteamOS, Wine is a mess here. I get error messages just starting the system. I can install some programs, but trying to actually run them with Wine fails immediately.

I know there are probably solutions for the sound and Wine stuff, but right now I’m just trying to get the fans under control so I don’t melt my rig.

Has anyone with a similar setup run into these issues? I really want to like this distro, but if I can't get this stable soon, I think I’m just going to wipe it and try Bazzite instead.

PS: WinBoat installation itself went without a hitch, so at least there’s that.

Line glitch/flickering

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 2:18pm

Hi, I'm pretty new to Linux Gaming and I have this line in top of my screen (tried to record it with OBS but it don't appear on it) tried to change some things but don't appear to change, except when I play in windowed (borderless still have the line), I know it must be a simple thing to change but can't put my finger on it,

I checked the comptability in steam and it's set to Proton 9,

Vsync is on, Screen set to 60Hz,

Spec: Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon Ryzen 5 5500H with Radeon Graphics X4 RTX 2050, Graphic server X11 Nvidia driver : 580.95.05

Sorry if I missed something feel free to ask for more info!

Intel cpu clock speeds bouncing, causing fps drop

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 17 Dec 2025 - 1:52pm

I have a Lenovo legion i7 pro or maybe it’s an i9 pro. I can’t remember but specs are 14900HX with a RTX 4080.

I have a problem with the cpu clocks bouncing up and down and it happens every 5-20 seconds and it lasts for half a sec. When it happens the gpu utilization goes down and the fps goes down. Definitely noticeable in hell divers when on a ship staring at a panel. You’d think you get consistent enough fps but mine goes from around 140 to 105 and then rockets up to 155, then settles back to ~140.

Temps don’t seem to cause the issue.

I have tried different protons, different kernels, different nvidia drivers, even different distros.

I have tried the performance govenor but that didn’t do anything.

I’ve don’t more research and it seems it might be because of the lack of intel management framework drivers on Linux but I want to make sure there isn’t a fix I’m overlooking.
